Medifast Boards
Hi All,
Lurked on the Medifast boards for a little while a couple of days ago, they are radical over there, I like the openness better over here. Saw you Maya! I read a thread about a cruise of MF'ers (hehe) leaving out of Galveston, going to the Caribbean on Carnival . The cruise includes the Medifast meals. I remembered the 2 cruises that my DH and I have taken, once to the Caribbean and to Alaska, and wondered to myself if I could stay on plan on one of these, (I doubt it) kudos to those that can! Here is one of my solutions to the oatmeal thing. The first time I made "muffins" out of the oatmeal, I made them in muffin cup baking pans and they came out spongy and molded on the counter in a couple of days, (this is texas!) the texture was'nt especially appealing to me but I ate them anyway because they were portable. The next time I prepared the recipe I spread the batter in a glass pie pan and baked for the 18 mins recomended, then I turned it over and baked the other side some more, took it out in one piece and cut into 6 wedges. Now I keep them in the fridge, and pop one in the toaster oven and have it with a shake before work. Just my take kids. Hope everyone is doing well. Fab50TX |
Hello hello!
Good morning all! :sunny:
Today is my start! My breakfast dishes consisting of a shaker jar are washed ;) I'm sipping my :coffee: coffee and waking up. Got on the scale this morning and found out the news: 242 pounds, 47% body fat, according to the Tanita. Whoa. It's funny but in 2001, when I was 156 pounds, I swore I'd never get over 200 again. But it creeps up on you unless you are constantly vigilant! :mag: It's easy for me to get used to being heavy... and to justify it... and say tomorrow I'll start. There's always another better day to start a diet ;) Starting during the holiday season ain't gonna be easy, but I figure I can eat a Lean & Green at Christmas and just stay far away from the appetizer table at my family's that day. Then I go out with my sis, her husband, and a good friend of their's the night after to a restaurant known for stick-to-your-ribs Russian/Polish food (Helsinki Cafe in Great Barrington, mmm)... I'm thinking I'll have the borscht soup and the wasabi tuna appetizer and some tea :chin: And then on New Year's Day, I'm going to my aunt's for her cat's birthday party! That'll be a tough one, because she is very caught up in her guests eating as she does, and drinking  like she does. But I'll get out of there as low-carb as I can and I plan on telling everyone I went booze-free early as my New Year's Resolution  There's always gonna be these get-togethers so I have to learn to get through them and enjoy the company without eating the wrong things or drinking away my diet ;) Hope you all have a wonderful day! I will be back later to check in with you... and see how everyone's day went :D |
Morning, everyone!
Good to see our regulars, and welcome to our newer posters! Ms Bershire, I started exactly 1 lb heavier than you when my weight loss journey began! SO, YOU CAN DO IT! You just picked a HECK of a time to start, around Christmas -- you are SO brave, for sure! And I think you have a most reasonable attitude, and will get through the holidays MINDFUL of what you are eating. Which, in my opinion, is probably the most important thing. I can mindlessly stuff down several bags of chips in an evening -- so just BEING AWARE of what you are doing is such an important step. Yup, the MF boards are interesting, to say the least. I enjoy reading them, and I've learned when to engage and when to dis-engage. I must say that my tolerance level for the tone and message of some threads is quite low, and I fear that I express that far too openly on that board! But, that board is THAT board, and this board is far, far different! Like Ms. Fab, I enjoy having a drama-free site, where if you aren't 100% or disagree with another's point of view, it can be done quite freely. Good for you, ms Ruth for resisting the lure of Chinese Chicken!!! MMMMMMmmmmm, egg rolls are one of my favorite -- and we have a great Vietnamese place up the corner from us...one day -- I just tell myself that the food isn't going anywheres, and one day soon I can have a bit of it. I just worry that I will have a tough time maintaining. Hey, mz! Thanks for the egg tips! I know that what is negatively affecting my egg experience is the fact that I don't have any stove anymore! Just a microwave, while my reno is underway. But once the stove is in, I'll make sure I give them another shot. Well, gotta dash -- my (HOT) contractor is here, and I just HAVE to say "Good morning"! Maya :) |
Just a quick HI . . . :grouphug:
It is snowing -- just for a change. I now have two cats at the Vet's . . . Purrecious went in yesterday. Looks like it will soon be three because Mouse just started sneezing and squinting, too. Hope I can wrestle him into a cage to make the trip. At least the Vet tells me that Frack is finally showing signs of recovering. I'm a mess . . . eating every bad for me thing I can get my hands on. don't know if I'll be able to start MFing in January, because my BGL is a mess right now too -- bad eating and stress -- but whatever the reasons, the Doctor is not goint to like it. See you later . . . |
Oh Meowee, what a time you are having with your furbabies! No wonder your BGL is wonky!
Berkshire Girl, happy first MFing day! What are you cooking for your Lean and Green? I need ideas. Maya, Vietnamese is almost as much of a temptation as Chinese. I think I became addicted when I had my first eggroll back in 1956! Fab, I may try your oatmeal thingy. Six pieces? from one packet? Does anyone know how to cook the soups on a regular stove? The chicken noodle always boils over in my microwave - and yes, I have adjusted the settings. The broccoli works fine though. Big news today is that I finally dropped two pounds! I also spent a whole two hours at the gym with my trainer who has made major changes to my routine. I have exactly six weeks to get the legs and arms into better shape. Weight? Well, we'll see. Let's see, if I continue to drop two pounds every night, I'll be 84 pounds lighter - right? I'd be satisfied to be in the low 190's. I've not talked to my PCP about this as yet but I think I'm going to have to modify Medifast when I recuperate from my operation. I know he'll definitely want more fruits and veggies added to the plan. At the moment, he's satisfied with things although he's a bit freaked about the low calories. I'm very lucky to have a great relationship with Dr Jack. He's the kind of physician who says "Well, what do you think?" before he ventures an opinion. It's cold and dark today and the house is not warming up well. I think it'll be a comfort lunch of MF chili. I may bake some of the oatmeal into breakfast cookies as that seems a quick and decadent breakfast. I'm thinking hard about what I'm going to order next as I'll be running out early in January. Time to light the woodstove and warm up the back of the house. It's definitely winter. |
Hi everyone!
Ms Meowee, I am so sorry about your kitties -- sounds like the vet is doing everything possible, so not to worry. Easier said than done, though... Ms Ruthie -- talk about misery! It is -11C and the guys are still working! They have lugged up a space heater, though, to warm the area up sufficiently so that they can put the shingles on later today or tomorrow. The guys told me today that I can't show anyone else around the house because it is a dangerous place right now -- all our HOT contractor needs is to have a visitor run a nail through his/her foot...SO, unfortunately, the tours are over. Everyone will just have to be happy with photobucket! I'll post some more photos online soon! Later, Maya :) |
Hi, Friends and Thread-newcomers! :grouphug:
Greetings from snowy Pennsylvania. I haven't had a moment to check-in in awhile as the past two weeks I was at home in Houston frantically finishing the semester--grading, presentations, recitals and concerts. Whew. Done. And now I'm moving at a drastically slower pace in rural PA. I had attempted (via excessive work-outs :woops:) to become UN-obese before I left Texas. Sadly, though, I got within one pound and didn't quite get there. As I mentioned a week or two ago, I am scale-less while in PA over the holidays and well--I'm probably UN-obese by now, but who knows? It actually IS liberating to not know the number for a few weeks. (But I bet I'll head straight to the scale when I walk back in my house...) Anyway--during my 4th MF-ing week I lost 4 pounds. So my new total is: 14 pounds lost on MF. Hooray!:twirly: I wish all of you MF-er's (or whatever category you like to put yourself in as a thread participant) a productive and positive week! Carol |
Good evening my fellow 'fasters! ;) Boy, I am feeling the early MF high! I'm super-chatty, watch out!
So endeth Day One for me! I got through with no issues but it feels WEIRD to not eat anything! Not bad, but weird. Warning: non-MF food described in the following... if you are feeling hungry, or tempted, read no further! :D My stomach and whole digestive system really have been making strange noises all day hehehe! It's like I have this painless percussion going on in there, like "rum pum rum pum pum." It's not, ahem, gas... it's just like little earthquakes. Very odd heh! I think my body is going where are the dang fries!? You cheated meeee! Yeah, my last meal on Wednesday night was courtesy McDonald's. I went overboard on purpose to show myself what it feels like to eat 2 dinners from McDonald's: not so good! :mcd: Fast Food Freakout :mcd: 4 Cheeseburgers 2 Large Fries 2 Apple Pies & 1.5 cups Red Wine :o Bleh!!! How many calories was that I wonder? ;) Must go tally it up at some point. I had absolutely no appetite to eat anything else after that, which is unusual. I thought I could polish off at least a few of the ice cream sandwiches I had in the freezer! But nope. I made an arrangement to give most of my unopened food to a vegetarian coworker, so she's getting all my tofu, pasta & veggie burgers. And anything else non-MF I can pawn off on her! ;) When I opened up the fridge tonight to put away the heavy cream and fat-free milk I bought, the smell of my Indian tomato coconut sauced tofu, lentils and rice practically enveloped me in this orange haze. That stuff has TO GO and SOON! Into the trash of course! And sprayed with windex! :D It's funny, I don't feel hungry per se but the smell of that was soooo strong. I noticed on MF before that my sense of taste and smell got heightened. Must be the low calories! Physical effects I've noticed so far: * more spit in my mouth (probably a lot more hydrated than normal, oi!) * more bathroom time * a bit of leg & foot cramping * better energy; didn't need 2-3 cups of coffee at work, just 1 which I only drank part of So far so good! Ruthxxx - Sorry, no Lean & Greens for me for now, so I have no recipes to pass on :) I'm going the all-liquid route, baby! Yeah! Desperate times call for desperate measures. But my sister can be a good source of info! She's a real foodie soon to go back on MF after weaning her twins, and I'll post her recipes here for you all! Your Chinese MF dinner sounds wonderful, I must say! As far as soups on the stove, I let them simmer on low for about 30 minutes; that lets all the dry stuff get tasty. I had that problem too with the Chicken Noodle Soup... I put it a huge casserole in the microwave before and it still ran over. But on the stove, it was contained :) And WOOHOO on your 2 pounds gone!! Ruth, one thing I should mention to you about your possible upping your fruits & veggies later: you might want to watch the fruits and the starchy vegs. If your carbs get too high, you will get knocked out of ketosis and then you will become quite hungry on the low MF calories. Ketosis kinda fakes out our bodies to be happy with under 1,200 calories... but once you hit that line on carbs (I'm not sure how high yours would be to go over that line, perhaps 120?), you'll feel the difference. I've read that 85 grams of carbs a day is the spot to shoot for, and over that gets dicey. Just wanted to give ya a heads-up so you know what might happen! Of course, for sure do what is best for you to heal up after surgery. Maybe the best thing for healing is a "normal" amount of calories, like 1,200 plus? I'm just wondering that if the body is under stress from surgery and then trying to recuperate, eating 800 calories might be too low? Just thinking out loud :) I hope the surgery goes great for you! Mzroz - Congrats on your 3 pound loss! Way to go!!! Camorgana - You want some Berkshire snow? ;) We got 9" tonight! Party! 4 pounds lost, you say? Awesome! And congrats on getting your semester all wrapped up! That must be a huge sigh of relief for you! Maya - Sounds like your renovations are going great! Thank you very much for the welcomes to me  But lemme tell ya, I can zone out and pig out with the best of 'em! Total mindless garbage disposal! But I am going to be doing my real best to focus, and most of all, to NOT GET HUNGRY by doing something dumb like skipping a shake and then find myself either in a grocery, in a restaurant, or worse, facing a take-out menu! The horror! So far I've found that is the real kiss of death on this plan. Get too hungry and forget it. The Neolithic cave woman takes over and leaves no calories unturned. Meowee - I hope all your kitties get better soon! I know my Sabrina is the highlight of my day so I can only imagine how much I'd miss her and worry about her if she had to stay over at the vets. I hope they all come home soon to you! Night all! I'm off to bed... gotta get up early to get a new wire (I think) on my braces at a 7:15 AM appointment! Eeep! :D Another reason to love protein shakes all day! |
Hi
Hi all,
Maya, I recieved my order very quickly, three days! Wondered if it might be slower coming to Canada, especially at this time of year, but was very pleasantly surprised, I also received the free week of food. Some of my new faves: Hot Cocoa...mmm so nice on this cold and snowy day, chocolate mint bars! Wow are they good, so much better than the peanut butter ones I had last time....too good maybe? And because I have been craving crunchy things I ordered some of the white cheddar soy crisps- they are really good too! I have just begun to check out the medifast boards, but get the impression that I will feel more comfortable posting on this forum, who needs all the drama! I do like being able to post my food diary thing though, that comes in handy. All the best to all of you, stay strong in the midst of this holiday season, and all the food we will have to resist, but I am happy to know if I do mess up, I will feel comfortable to make that confession here, without risking anybody flipping out at me! LOL I am officially down 15 Lbs now, at the end of 4 weeks :carrot: Would love to lose another 38 Lbs, wish me luck! Terry |
This is totally amazing. I thought when I started on 3FC that nobody was doing MF, and, as it turns out, there are at least ten of us. Maybe more. Is anyone counting?
I'm only counting the pounds as they come off. I can't take the girls to the gym with me this week, they both have strep throat. So I am finding other forms of exercise. For the cream of whatever soups, the MF boards have a delicious recipe for making them into pizza. Highly recommended. In fact, I am ordering two boxes of cream of tomato next time just to make the pizzas. I can tell that this is it, this diet will click. |
Good morning everybody!
Boy, coffee tastes much better with heavy cream than with fat free half & half! :coffee2: Hehehe! Ugh, I am still not awake yet. Getting up at 5:30 is a shock to my night owl system (whine whine.) Lettingslenderin - I know, it's great, isn't it!? I love that this thread and group is growing. I think now that 3FC has officially tried and gave a thumbs-up to Medifast, that makes a HUGE difference to the readers here. I know when I have posted about MF before, there were a couple threads, one in particular, where me and another poster got dragged over the coals for doing such a weird diet  I'll have to find them for you all... kinda funny now ;) Ah, here they are: From 7/7/05: www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61020 From 2/2/06: www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75129 What I found before was that not a lot of people would post in the threads, but once I made a post in one, I would got lots of PMs asking about the MF plan :D I mean, I get it... I understand that MF is out of the norm. I like how uncomplicated it is but yes, I prefer real whole foods, heh! My own struggle is that if I can control my urges to binge, I can do this plan almost with both hands tied behind my back :) And the weight loss on it is AMAZING. Nothing else I have tried gets it off so fast, and safely. That's the important part to me: safely. People can argue that if you lose it fast, you gain it back just as fast. I dunno. In my own experience, it took me 2 years to lose 52 pounds with WW, and I gained it back pretty quickly, plus some. I just want it off NOW! Not a half pound here or there :snail: Ha! Here's to a strong on-plan day for everybody! :D Cheers to the 'fasters! :cheer2: |
Hi all!
You sure raised some good points -- I think personally that any diet that gets the pounds off and works for you and is healthy is the best diet around. The issue becomes KEEPING the weight off. I think the speed of weight loss is immaterial -- I lost alot on WW and gained it back -- I lost alot on a VLC diet and gained some back -- I hope to lose the rest of what I have to lose and probably, given my track record, will gain some back. So MY challenge is not necessarily to LOSE the weight, but to figure out how to keep the bulk of it off! Sometimes I wonder if we all don't THINK or ACT like "normal weighted" people. My husband, for example. He hasn't gained anything since he graduated from University in 1988. He HAS fluctuated up/down approximately 10 lbs. He catches himself at a certain amount and then works to get the excess off. When I compare this to myself, I DON'T catch the fluctuation and when I DO, I feel that it is either insurmountable OR don't think that it is "such a big deal". And then the numbers creep up. I see my DH eat, and he self-regulates CONSTANTLY -- he recognizes that at certain times he may not be able to have dessert, for example, and acts accordingly. Small adjustments are a normal part of his life. Whereas for ME, it is either ALL or NOTHING. I'm gonna have half of that cheesecake, gain the lbs, then be superstrict eventually to get the lbs off. Disordered approach? Perhaps! Thoughts? Maya :) |
Maya, if I knew the answer, I'd be slim by now after 48 years of being off and on a diet. Got your PM and, yes, we will definitely do that after the holidays on a good driving day. I'm out to Gardiners road a lot.
BerkshireGal, I went back and read those threads. I remember them well and also remember Mrs Jim and her lengthy posts. Have you noticed that she's no longer a MOD? Slim, good timing for your order! Now we need to pace ourselves through Christmas. I'm already thinking of my next order - being diabetic does set a few limits. Lettingslenderin, thanks for the heads up about using the soups to make pizza. Sounds unbelievable but I'll research. I don't know if this is OK but I did my lean and green last night by taking a broccoli soup designated for the evening snack and adding a cup of cooked chopped broccoli, a half cup of finely chopped red pepper and some boiled ham - about two ounces. I heated the whole works and then added enough cheese to bring my protein up to four ounces. It was yummy and comforting on a cold snowy night. AND I'm down another half pound this morning. Daily weighing is a tough habit to break when you've been doing it for over 50 years. I also did the gym thing again this morning although I was pretty sore from yesterday's mega workout. More snow is on the way so there'll be more exercise today with firewood lugging and shoveling! |
WOO HOO - you guys are doing great! :carrot:
|
I'm here
Just stopping in quickly before I go to daughter no.1's holiday party and then on to the cookie swap. I decided last night while doing the gingerbread house decoration that if I didn't sample the decorations just a little (and it was a very little) I'd end up eating the whole house. AND while I made cookies today I let myself have just one. It was good but I feel like I've got the sugar urge out of me now so I can go to the party and stand around watching the girls swap their cookies (that their mothers made).
I weighed this morning - down 5 lbs since Monday but I won't change my tracker until my official weigh-in next Monday. I probably won't be around much this weekend so have a great one. And I agree with the others - I've lurked over at the MF boards too but much prefer this one. Ya'll are so much nicer. :D Gotta go, Maria |
