Morning . . .
I had a pretty good night's sleep last night and, although we did get snow overnight, today the sun is trying to poke out a bit. I also managed to get a little of the Lysine Supplement into Frick via the "smear on paws and nose" routine. Hopefully a little is better than none and maybe she will learn to actually like it, in time. Oh yeah right :p. Anyway . . . all in all, things are a little brighter this morning. Have a great day . . . See you later, gang . . . :carrot: |
Hi everyone! Where are our Texans? And Floridians?
'Morning to everyone else. MAN my fingers are cold! Here are the latest details from the massive reno project: http://s230.photobucket.com/albums/e...t=e7053434.pbw http://s230.photobucket.com/albums/e...rfirstwall.flv http://s230.photobucket.com/albums/e...ngthefront.flv http://s230.photobucket.com/albums/e...terBedroom.flv More tomorrow, once I upload the snaps! Maya :) |
Cold but pretty here.
The bad news is I had a Scotch last night; the good news is that there's no more left! This morning I'm experimenting on cookies made with MF oatmeal. For some reason, they sent me extra. I'll let you know what happens - I may end up loving them but I doubt it. I'm not much of a cookie eater although you'd never know it to look at me. Maya, all I can say is that you are a brave and strong woman! The view from the master bedroom will be worth it. From the pic, I deduct you are not right in the city. Oven is up to heat so here I go with my Julia Child act. |
Actually, we ARE right in the city! Believe it or not, we are on the last road within the actual city of Kingston. The view out the front is pure middle-class suburbia. The view out the BACK is onto Conservation and protected land!
We call it "our schizophrenic house". We are literally a 3 minute drive to a 24-hour Loebs, our TD bank, and a Tim Hortons! Our dental clinic is actually only a 15 minute walk away, and there are bus routes up the next block to take you downtown. You'd never guess it from the back of the house! This is why we borrowed $$$ from the bank for the reno - we figure that this was "cottage like" and since we are NOT cottage people (have enough trouble maintaining ONE house already), why not take advantage of the view? Glad you like it! I must say that MF has been quite literally a GODSEND for me -- I am living in our basement, with only a microwave, which is PERFECT for a MFing lifestyle! Add water, heat --bing bing -- dinner's ready! I have stuck with chicken and veg since I started because our Loebs sells one HECK of a pre-roasted chicken, and that lasts me upwards of four days!!!! Anyways, gotta check up on the crew. Did I mention that our contractor is TOTALLY HOT!!!! Mind you, my DH has been away since October, so EVERYONE is looking somewhat appealing.... HAHAHA Maya :) |
Well, I made four packets of the oatmeal into 24 cookies so six cookies is a MF meal plus 50 calories. I did cheat by adding raisins but they turned out OK and taste pretty goodl. I'll post the actual recipe when I'm through messing with it.
Now, I did post my Scotch sin on the M Board and got mildly flamed. If Scotch has no carbs, how can it put one out of ketosis? Doesn't make sense. I've been warned it'll take a week of pure MF to get back into weightloss mode. :yikes: I'm still not in it so won't lose any sleep over that. Maya, at the hot contractor. In this weather he'd need to be hot. Too bad it's not summer when the guys take their shirts off! Time to go down for the paper, take the bulletins to the Church and then settle in with a tea and a fire in the woodstove. |
I tell you, he's TOTALLY HOT!!!!!
Anyways, I wanna see the MF flaming! Where'd you post it? Maya :) |
It's in my blog. Not a major flaming but they say I'll be out of ketosis from the Scotch. How can that be when there are no carbs in Scotch?
|
Ms. Ruth, here is the answer to your question:
From a low-carb-ers website, specifically addressing ketogenic diets: "Will drinking alcohol affect ketosis? Yes and no. The liver can make ketones out of alcohol, so technically, when you drink you'll continue to produce ketones and so will remain in ketosis. The problem is ... alcohol converts more easily to ketones than fatty acids, so your liver will use the alchol first, in preference to fat. Thus, when you drink, basically your FAT burning is put on hold until all the alcohol is out of your system. This rapid breakdown of alcohol into ketones and acetaldehyde (the intoxicating by-product) ... tends to put low carbers at risk for quicker intoxication ... especially if no other food is consumed to slow absorption." SO, you WILL stay in ketosis, just the alcohol will be burned instead of body fat. I personally wouldn't worry about it, unless I was drinking alot! Maya :) |
Thanks, Maya. It was one drink. I won't lose any sleep over it but I have lost only a half pound in a week. :( I'll be really "pure" this week and see what gives.

Morning, all!
How is everyone? We seem to be having a bit of a posting lull -- I think people are getting ready for Christmas and all... Anyways, not much here -- some walls went up yesterday on our reno, so I'll post some more photos once I down/upload onto photobucket. Ms Ruthie -- Try going a full out 100% OP for just one week. And I mean HARD CORE -- no recipe modifications, no nibbles, just 5 MF as packaged and one L%G. Have a bar a day if you like your sweet/crunch in there (I know I do), because I don't think that this will affect much (others say it will, but I haven't experienced any issues). And weigh and measure your L&Gs. Just for one week. Stay off the scales, and see what happens! Talk you y'all later! Maya :) |
Funny, Maya, but I just gave myself the same advice! My meals are packaged for the week and the Lean and Green ones are planned. I have chicken cooking as we chat! Leftover steak with peppers and onions served over shredded cabbage is the plan for dinner tonight.

MMMmmmmm Cabbage......(rolls! Perogies! The Ukranian side of me is coming out!!!)
Maya :) |
Hi everyone -
I would love to join your group! I just started Medifast on 11/25/07 - 2 weeks ago. I moved across country four months ago to help care for a parent who was ill. My sister and I did 24 hr care for my Mom for almost 3 months and she passed away about a month ago. So I am finally getting my life somewhat back on track (far moe difficult than I ever thought :( ) but this is the first step. I was so happy to see this group here! Look forward to chatting with you all! Having trouble getting my signature to post :( |
Welcome, Ms. SweetP!
So so sorry to hear about your mom. It is amazing that you and your sister were there for her 24/7 at the end. Your mom knows that and loves you for it. And, we're all here for you, 100% On Plan or not! So please post in -- tell us where you are from (roughly!), and if you are from a WARM climate, I'm going to SCREAM!!!! Hope to hear from you soon, Maya :) |
:wel3fc: and to this Thread, SweetP. I am so glad you and your sisters were able to be with your mother. Some things are just the right thing to do!
Your signature looks OK to me. I'm a MOD and an ADMIN so just holler if you need help. It's in your profile and will show up in every post automatically. Maya, if you left now, you could be here in 50 minutes to share the shredded cabbage! The driving wasn't too bad - I was to Brockville and back this afternoon. My quilt shop was closed and WalMart was a zoo so it was a quick and cheap trip. |
