Default LCFS Week of May 03, 2004

Happy Monday Ladies

Coming back to work after a four day weekend puts me in one of those
moods

Hope everyone is well. My dad is doing ok. Still trying to get use to the
os. He is going back to the doctor on Friday to be checked over which is
good. He is very very nervous.

is still off. I don't know what to think. Its really scary. I don't feel
comfortable enough to call her at home. I feel really bad though, she has
been relying on the manager of finance to drive her to her appointments.
Poor soul is all alone it seems. I know she loves her dog Sam, but it would
seem Sam is all she has. At least the dog gives her comfort.

How are you three doing????

Nikki, how is the slim in six program doing?

Aleka, I have put on some beef to be sure. I will get weighed at the end
of this month

Lynn, can you believe we are in the single digits again!! Whats with this
dam weather

Have a good one gals.
Anne.

Hi
Anne, how about that At least I didn't post a long message already
I didn't understand your message. Is your dad getting use to oxygen? Glad he's doing better and I know your relieved.
Tough call about If you showed too much concern, she would probably question your motives, but not doing so doesn't seem right either. Honestly, when I've had bosses that have had personal problems, I never have gotten involved. I guess, I just had too much going on with my kids to do much for anyone else. She has placed herself in this position by being such a hard hearted person. God works in different ways. It could be a wake up call to her and a glimps of her future if she doesn't change.
I injured my ankle a few days ago and haven't been able to do Slim in 6 for 5 days. I was going to restart, redoing the middle tape and then moving on to the last one, which is a killer. But, Stripe (my cat) knocked all my vcr tapes off and broke several of them, including the 2nd Slim in 6 tape. I didn't exactly know what to do, so I decided to just start the Power 90 series that I bought from ebay. They are made by Beach Body too, but it's a different program. More weight work, less aerobics. I did it this morning and it felt great. I've lost some more weight. I want to be below 200 by my birthday. If I keep losing 2 lbs a week, I will be pretty close.
I tried a new soup that Walmart makes. It's called Carb Focus. If you are on a strict low carb diet, then some of them would not be right, they use potatoes in the vegetable soup and flour in the noodles. Still, it's really good. I've tried the Philly Steak and the Roasted Vegetable soup. They are fairly low calorie, most are 60-120 calories a serving. I eat the whole can and there are 2 servings in a can. They cost $1.44 a can here. That's high for soup, but they are better than Campbells and I am so tired of frozen dinners, I could Even though, I still eat them.
We got frost last night. I covered my tomatoes with plastic containers, but some that are in really low places still got nipped. It was pretty cold out. Now, the weather is suppose to straighten up and be summer like. Speaking of that, I'm going to go plant some seeds, Nikki

Oh, I forgot, Lynn did you post about this website or did I find it somewhere else?
www.allrecipes.com
It's pretty interesting. They have a section that is free and you can explore all the recipes, start your own cookbook, etc. They also have some different clubs you can join that are for weight loss, heart or diabetic diets. You have to pay for those. I'm just looking at the free stuff and it's keeping me busy.

Good evening ladies,

DH made his last delivery from our machine shop today. I mnaged to get some laundry done, then after lunch we went grocery shopping. We didn't do any emptying out today.

We've had off and on rain most of the day. We had a really warm night last night. We slept with one of the bedroom windows opened. We won't tonight though.

ANNE, glad that your Dad is doing well. That is too bad about She must be a very lonely person if all she has is her dog for company. Maybe she really doesn't know how to handle people, and as nikki said, hopefully this will be a wakeup call for her. Someone like that you really have to feel sorry for her, but it's hard to when she treats people like she does.

nikki, how did you hurt your ankle? Hope that you didn't injure it too badly. I bought some frozen dinners at Walmart today. I bought a Life Choice one to try. It's turkey w/green beans & carrots. Next time I go to Walmart, I'll look for those soups. Were they with the rest of the soups, or were they in a special section? Congratulations on your weight loss I'm sure you'll be where you want to be by your birthday.

lynn, did you have a good weekend at your camp?

Good night,
Aleka

Aleka,
Thanks.

The soups are with the other soups. That turkey is ok, not my favorite. I like the beef varieties the best.
I was just exercising and then it started to swell and hurt pretty bad. I think all it was a few torn muscles or whatever. Same ankle as always. I get so frustrated and mad about it sometimes. It's a lot better now and I'm back exercising and doing regular stuff again.
Talk to you tomorrow, Nikki

Good Morning All:
Nikki, I'm sorry to hear about your ankle and your tapes. I know how it
feels. My son David has broken CD's, tapes, make up cases etc......
My dad is using oxygen now Nikki. The funny thing is when my dad was
tested a couple of weeks ago on the treadmill for his exercise test, his
lungs were in better shape than before his radiation Perhaps his age
and other chronic lung problems .......The biggest problem he seems to have
is his potassium levels.

Aleka, I feel really bad about she is a lonely lady. I think she must
have been really hurt in her life. I hope she is ok. I really wish I had the
comfort level to give her a call but I don't. Nikki was right when she said
would probably question my motives. She would likely ask me what
the #.**# I wanted.

Hi Lynn, good weather coming our way on Thursday

Have a great day ladies.
Anne.

Hi,
I am really sore from exercising yesterday. So, I just stretched really good and exercised again. Not as sore now as when I got up. That's a good thing, right?
Anne, just from how you've described I figured she'd be the type to be questioning everything that everyone does. I bet she's never had a real friend in her life, outside of her dog. Probably, she will always be that way. Even therapy won't change that aspect of her personality. It's very sad.
I bought some more tomato plants and will spend the day planting and doing out door stuff. It's suppose to get into the 70's today, but so far, it's a real cool 50 something.
Lynn, hope your doing ok. I know your really busy and hope your having a great time.
Hi Aleka, how's your weather today?
Better get planting. I told DH with the price of food going through the roof, we may have to till up the whole yard and plant it all in vegetables. He thinks that is a great idea, he wouldn't have to mow anymore
Take care, Nikki

Cool

Good morning,

We finished cleaning out the cottage yesterday plus I vaccumed. We only left a few things the buyers wanted. Now, we are cleaning out the shed today. This should be fun....NOT!

It was really cold and windy here yesterday. The temps started out at 39 deg. and farther north they got 1"-3" of snow. Thankfully we didn't get any of that. Supposedly it's going to start getting warmer. But, I'll believe it when I see it.

ANNE, you're right, probably was deeply hurt sometime during her life to make her that way. She may think that she has to hurt you before you hurt her, even though you have no intention of doing so. How sad. I hope everything turns out ok for her. Are you still getting cold weather?

nikki, I am so sorry about what happened to your tapes. I think not being as sore after exercising is a good thing. I have found that when I'm stiff and sore from exercising, the next time I exercise, it works itsself out. If I pull something like I usually do on the Torso Trak, I'll usually wait until it heals. In the General Diet forum on 3fc, there is a thread about melting weight off w/frozen foods. Someone posted a good reference guide as to what to look for in the diet frozen dinners. I copied & pasted it to use when I go shopping.

lynn, hope everything is going well for you. Are you still at your camp or have you come home?

Have a great day everyone.

Hi,
Yesterday, it was cold and windy in the morning. They kept saying it would warm up and get into the 70's and I said HA!, but they were right. In fact, it was 78 before the day was over, so I was starting to whine about being too hot (naturally ).
I'll look up that thread, Aleka. I usually stick with the ones that I think taste good. Hey, I've lost 5 lbs since Saturday. Last Oct, I weighed 208, before I started to over eat when the holidays started. I looked up my measurments from then and I actually am several inches smaller than then now and I weight 214 today.
I was reading yesterday an interesting email about why we over eat. It said that when we eat junk food and unhealthy foods we are not getting the right nutrition our bodies need. So, we keep eating more and more, because we are basically starving ourselves to death, nutritionally. As a result, we keep gaining weight, because our bodies are constantly searching for the right nutrients in our diet and when they don't find it, they just store the extra calories and demand that we keep eating to fill our need for nutrition. I sure have noticed lately, since I've been eating more fresh vegetables, less fat and more whole grains, that I'm feeling fuller and not binging anymore. I think I always knew that I wasn't feeding my body what it needed, I was just eating what I wanted. This is all so simple, but it still made sense to me like it hadnt before.
DH's favorite aunt died. We will go up on Friday, stay in a motel and the funeral is on Saturday. It will be an all day event. Her services are in one town that is a 3 hour drive from our house, the grave side services are then in a town that is 3 hours from the funeral and DH has family in that town, so we will probably spend time visiting there that night. Visiting might not be the right word, they are big on partying, it will be Saturday night and I will be tense, tired, irritated and wanting to be anywhere but there. I use to handle this by drinking, but since I don't drink anymore, I'm not sure what I'll do with myself while everyone else gets drunk. I expect it will take us all night to get home. I will be very relieved to get back on Sunday.
Well, better go exercise. Take care, Nikki

Talking

nikki, my deepest sympathies go to you and your DH. Have a safe trip on Friday. I don't know what to tell you to do while your DH family is drinking. What do you usually now do in situations like that? Maybe if you listen to some relaxing music before you go it may help. I know if I take a walk that sometimes relaxes me. Are you able to avoid the partying altogether? Let me know how you make out. Congratulations on the weight and inches lost. You're doing fantastic...keep it up!! Thanks for sharing your e-mail. It really does make sense. I feel better when I eat whole-grains along with some protein and veggies. Also, if I have more than 1 cup of milk in my cereal, which is a recommended serving on WW, my cereal stays with me a lot longer. I have also read that getting a lot of calcium rich foods helps you to lose weight. I have some Blue Bunny yogurt made w/Splenda for a snack in the afternoon.

Aleka,
What I generally do now is just avoid situations like that. Such as, if DH wants to go to his hometown and I know he'll go to the bar, I stay home. I use to try to go and socialize, but it's impossible when people are drunk and I'm sober. I end up balancing my check book and staring at the wall. Then I come home smelling like smoke and ticked off. Just makes more sense to stay home.
In this situation, I have no way to avoid it. There is no where to go and no one to go see until it's over with. I'm hoping DH will just be tired and want to go home instead. Guess we'll see how it works out, Nikki

Cool

Nikki, is there some way you both can stay at a nearby motel? That way you can stay there while your DH parties with his relatives. At least there is TV at the motel and you can bring along a good book to read. I know what you mean about being the only one not drinking at parties. It really isn't any fun.

We won't be staying anywhere that night and believe it or not, there are no motels within 30 miles or more. The county seat doesn't have a motel or a stop light in the town. We are talking back woods here. It's a real great place to go if you want to get away. My cell phone doesn't even work there. The people are real friendly, everyone waves when you drive by, because they see so few strangers. It's like walking into the 60's. I really do love it and wish we could move there some day. DH might be too tired to party. Nikki

Wink

Nikki, that sounds like the area where we live! My cell phone is just about useless here. People are really friendly here too, some get offended if you don't wave as you're passing by. We have to walk about 200 ft. to get to our mailbox and we just hope we won't run into anybody that will stop and talk for a long period of time. Just leave everything in God's hands and everything will turn out ok for you.

Good night,
Aleka

Aleka,
Not too sure if this is very Godly, but DH was talking about renting a room in a town about 40 miles away from the graveside services and going to the casino/river boat for the rest of the night. Now that would be much more fun for me. I know his aunt would approve, she loved to go to the casino every chance she got. They have a fabulous buffet on Saturday night there, serving prime rib and king crab legs. Last year, it was only $9.95 a person. Also, they have a live band and it's usually blues or rock and roll. Then in the morning, the boat cruises down the Mississippi River for an hour and that's free. It's a good time and if you don't get carried away with the slot machines, it can be a cheap one too.
I sure know what your saying about being in a place where people like to talk. This place is like that too. When we go to visit his relatives there, you have to expect it will take all day to say hi, how ya doin'. Or at least, all day to listen to the answer
Night, Nikki
