Hi Michelle -

The first thing you should do is your homework. I'd recommend spending time checking out websites for the different low carb plans to figure out what is right for you. After that, really study what you can and can't have and how to follow the plan correctly. A lot of people jump into what they believe is "low carb" without understanding how or why it works. If you just eat meat and cheese, you're gonna do yourself a world of harm. The best advice I can give you is to really know what you're doing before you start doing it. Then you'll be confident and successful! Good luck!!!

As you probably saw on my signature, I'm doing atkins, and for the first few days it was HARD! But after that initial hard part, it's been rather pleasant. I really think that after knowing what you're doing, it's all about your mindset. Yes, it's sometimes no fun to watch other people eating (insert carb laden goodie you love here) but I love that I'm wearing smaller clothes. If all else fails, I just say to myself - yeah, they're eating that and it will cost them, but I can have bacon and cream cheese and not feel a second of remorse and even benefit from it! How cool is that?

Hi Michelle,

What plan have you decided on? Low carb or? I agree with Star that it has to be a decision in your head - you need to commit to a plan then stick to it.

It is not easy at first but once you see the weight falling off you will be very motivated to continue.

I know you need to lose a lot of weight and sometimes it seems daunting - so just think of it in smaller increments and make mini-goals for yourself - like 10 lbs by Thanksgiving or 15 lbs by xmas?

You might also want to get a free account on www.fitday.com to track what you're eating.

Good luck and let us know how you're doing.

Hi Michelle and welcome! I'm also on the Atkins and read up on it for a month to make sure I understood it. I probably didn't have to take that long to research it, but I didn't know a soul who was on the diet, or about this wonderful site for support. Now, 3 years, 4 months later, it's still great for me and my husband as well. Also, whatever you choose, if you try and don't get it to work the first time, don't give up completely. You'll find something.

Hello,

I'm also new to this website and am thinking about starting the Low Carb diet. Any good websites that I can check out?Any feedback is welcome and appreciated
I have about 50-60 lbs to loose and I think this is a good start.
I go through exercise stages( I work out for 2-3 weeks and then I stop)this happens every couple of months.
I really enjoy reading all the posts and I get very motivated, but then it all goes away. Its very frustrating, but there is so many outfits in my closet that I would love to wear.

Hi Jolka -

Since I'm an atkins girl myself, I'd recommend checking out www.atkins.com they have tons of info on how and why atkins works as well as how to go about it safely and successfully. It also saves you from having to buy the book.

Good luck!

I had bought and read the Atkins book a couple weeks before I started. My sister told me her father in law had lost a LOT of weight in a few months on it. After reading what I COULD have (and couldn't) decided yup, I can give it a shot (it asked that we just give them 2 weeks to prove to us we could lose weight)--and sure enough, i'm on my 6th day and I've got more energy (WOOHOO!) and I've also (maybe delusional yet but i'll take it!) lost 6 pounds!!!
