Default Please answer a few questions for the newbie?

New to this all! I have read the Zone and Atkins and I think this is the best choice. I've got to get this now 15 pounds off........I am also insulin resistant and its like being sick.
ANYWAY,

I have a couple of questions if anyone would answer please?

Is pita bread okay....does it have to be whole wheat grain?

If we are supposed to eat fruit by itself, why in the meal plan does it tell us cottage cheese is okay with fruit?

We don't want more then 3 sugar (gms) per food source? Some of the suggestions in the book are over three (like cottage cheese) Is this okay?

Finally, is there an amount to try and stay under (sugar)per day? I know the answer is 0 but can we try for something a little higher??????

Suzanne moved your post into the Low Carb Forum. Welcome to a fun and supportive group of chicks.

Lots of questions but I have some too.

Are you doing Atkins or The Zone? What is the book that talks about three grams of sugar?

Once we know which plan, I am sure the chicks will have all the answers. Somebody is on The Zone but I can't remember who. There is lots of Atkins info around.

By the way, lots of us are insulin resistant (IR) and low carbing DOES help!

Welcome Windnhail !!!

I don't follow Atkins or the Zone but others have, do or have read it and can give you answers to your questions.

I just wanted to welcome you and let you know that I'm looking forward to getting to know you and wishing you good luck!

Default Newbie con't

Thanks for the aloha's.

I have decided to go w/ sugarbusters over the zone and Atkins because it is less restrictive and I am always on the go. My questions are coming from reading the sugarbusters book.

I think I answered my own questions over the weekend when I sat back down and re-read info.
The 3 gms of sugar per food source is for refined sugar. and the ptia bread should be stone ground. Sorry to bug you.

However, is there a magical amount of sugar to stay under?
Some natural sugar (yogurt, milk, certain fruits,) appears to be okay as long as its not refined? This is confusing
I read where you can eat 2 bread slices to lose, 3 to maintain...is this based on the carb amount or sugar? For ex: could I have some pasta wheat grain noodles w/ spaghetti the same day i ate a sandwich for lunch or is that too much?

Appreciate the help.....thank you for your responses so far........

Windnhail, there is a whole forum on Sugarbusters. Would you like me to move your thread there? They are a very friendly group and know the SugarBusters program. I don't think we have any Sugarbusters here.
