Ask your surgeon what kind of painkiller he will give you ... mine wouldn't give me much of anything, I think I got something like Tylenol 3 which didn't do it for me at all. Demerol would have been great!
I was working as a radio announcer at that time - the surgery was done on a Wednesday morning and I went back in for my first shift on Saturday night. I still had a little pain, but it was not really too bad, and I agree -- by that time it certainly was not as bad as the worst of the attacks!
The worst of it was while I was still in the hospital (in early that Wednesday, discharged Thursday afternoon -- would have been earlier but the surgeon was tied up and didn't come around to discharge me until late). Wednesday night, when I complained about the pain, a very nasty nurse asked me if I wanted a shot or pills ... I took the pills, which didn't help much at all. When I complained again, she told me I should've taken the shot (and she was very nasty about it!). So my word to the wise -- when given the choice, TAKE THE SHOT! (in recent years when I went through strep throat 3 times in one year, I requested a shot over oral antibiotics -- cleared it up in no time).
You'll be fine!
