Haven't been OP in several days and have gained a ton of weight. I'm really depressed right now & am going to try to make an Overeater's Anonymous meeting tonight. There's one not far from my office. DH & I carpool & the car is parked at his office, but he has promised to leave on time so I can make it to the meeting. I see a therapist but feel I need a group setting as well. Does anyone have any experience w/OA, good or bad?
Sorry to whine, I really want to get back on track & will try very hard to do so. Wish I could get back the motivation I had just a few months ago. Whenever I make one little mistake (not diet related: being late for work, saying the wrong thing, etc), I head for the chocolate. I had to go into the clothes I had packed up because they were too big, in order to have something to wear to work today. I really don't know why I can't do what was second nature to me just 6 weeks ago. I realize with all the s**t going on in the world my problems are trivial, but I'm afraid if I don't get a grip soon I never will.

I just went to the gyno and I was telling her all my troubles and symptoms...dry skin, weight gain, irregular periods, fatigue, irritability...she immediately gave me a test for hypo-thyroidism and told me that 1 out of 20 women have it and don't even know it. I am sure is this is what is wrong with me it will not solve all my problems but it may give me some answers at least. I also have to go back and have cholesterol, sugar tests and a mammogram. What fun!!
I think we should all not only attend our meetings OA or WW or whatever we choose, but each and every one of us should have a physical and rule out all health problems!!!
i know that we email each other - but I just wanted to say here that I am praying for you!
I have several friends (and have met several people here) that go to OA and they love it - surely something positive would come out of going to the meeting!
Ah Jennifer, I so know where you are coming from! Boy we're really having a hard ride of it, huh? I'll help you if you help me, OK? I am determined to make it better for myself and leave off the fear that came after Sept.11th. The fear infected my goals and my strategies and I let terrorism win in my heart because the fear and the anxiety started to take over!
No more, no more, NO MORE! Now I'm angry--especailly at thosewho truned my world into chaos and let me feel the fear and let me feel unworthy or unsuccessful--and you need to know that too Jennifer. It isn't you who is doing it--it's the terrible people who started all this--shook our faith and our confidence and most of all our security. And what do carb addicts reach for when feeling insecure--FOOD! So if you need to find someone to blame--blame the terrorists because without them I wouldn't have a reason so be so darned determined to fight right now! So here I am declaring war on fat--who's with me!? CHARGE!!!!..............
Hang in there my friend, you can overcome this. I agree with Leens you are here with friends and when you feel like whining do that, we will listen and we all understand exactly what you are going through. That is what friends are for!
Remember how you helped me through my chocolate ordeal, let us all help you now.
In my eyes, you are a wonderful, unselfish, loving and giving person, you were willing to send me low carb chocolates from Texas to South Africa just to help me out. For that you will always have a special place in my hart.

I really appreciate all your kind words and wishes. I went to OA last night and between that and ya'll and Peach's article I feel so motivated and at peace with myself for the first time in a long time.
