Andrea, that's a confluence of too many pains and impairments. You aren't well. You need to look into it further. One thing I have discovered from my accident & prolonged recovery: Worrying about my weight when I am not fully functional, when I am trying rebuild wasted leg muscles and learn to walk on a new knee -- it's like rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship.

Wednesday, after a restless night, fretting over a shakeup in my dept. that I just heard about yesterday, during which I woke up hungry.

Weigh in: Pre-intake, pre-outtake, 140.7. Hard to believe. Re-set the scale for a second time and double-checked and got the same number. This was from getting so hungry in the night? I am incredulous and mistrustful. Also want to ensure I am feeding these weak muscles. This is why I've switched to a protein bar dessert at night.

Today's Meals:

Breakfast: Ham, broccoli and spinach egg bake; a lump of pumpkin steel-cut oatmeal, less than a half portion, supplemented with a home-made banana & prune muffin; blueberries with cinnamon & yogurt
Lunch: Spinach salad, roasted vegetables, chicken, walnuts, goat cheese & Craisins
Dinner: Miso salmon in parchment on top of French green beans
Dessert: Quest bar in cookies & cream flavor

Today's Exercise:

Front leg raise 3x20, Lateral leg raise 3x20, Side clams 3x20, Lateral leg raise 3x20, Bicycle 3x20, Kickback 3x20 and High knee 3x20.

Physical therapy: 12 minutes on Cybex elliptical; 4x12 crunches; 12x4 abductor and adductor; 3x12 bodyweight step-ups;circuit of 12 bodyweight step-ups, 12 alternating military press with 15-lb dumbbells (they wanted to give me just 5 lbs!), 12 quad raises; 12 minutes walking on treadmill to try to smooth out my gait and lengthen my steps

Hey there KC!

Andrea - go get checked out just in case.

I can give a positive review on the turmeric - my husband has asthma and was using a daily inhaled steroid every day for years. In March of 2014 he started mixing 2 tsps of ground turmeric in his breakfast shake and in three months he was able to stop the daily steroid. He still uses a rescue inhaler occasionally, and had to use a short term course of a much lighter dose inhaled steroid than he used to use for four weeks in January when he had the flu and an upper respiratory infection, but has stopped it now. They did an xray at his last visit and say his lungs look significantly clearer. The turmeric was the only change, and prior to that his breathing was getting worse year over year instead of better.

Hi KC! Glad to see you posting again!

Saef-- hope the number was no fluke! When I wake up hungry (or go to bed hungry), I often see a drop on the scale.

Has anyone heard from Bargoo lately?? I hope she is doing alright.

She hasn't posted anything on the forum since December. I don't think that's a good sign.

I've thought about her a lot. I hope that if some of the other moderators know her they will let us know.

Is there any way a Mod can check on Bargoo without intruding on her privacy? Probably not, which I understand, but which makes me sad.

I think Bill asked her whether she'd like to start a new thread here a while ago but didn't get a reply.

And where is Jay? How is she faring, and her partner, too?

Thursday, a disappointing day, as I wanted to go to the gym in the morning and then drive to CT. But as I limped home from the gym, I knew I was not ready to be away from home resources (ice packs, bed). Perhaps this is partly due to the rainy weather swelling up joints under the metal in my leg.

Weigh-in: 141.1, pre-intake & outtake, not unexpected, as yesterday's salmon was a big hunk

Today's Meals:

Breakfast: Asparagus, red pepper and spinach egg bake; home-made banana & prune muffin; blueberries & strawberries with yogurt
Lunch: Spring mix salad, cold asparagus, salsa, peanuts and a couple tablespoons of guacamole
Snack: A delicious sliced-up Braeburn apple
Dinner: Tuna & tomato sauce over spaghetti squash, lemon roasted cabbage
Dessert: Chocolate chip cookie dough Quest bar

Today's Exercise:

At the gym: 20 minutes on the recumbent bike, hills, resistance at six, enough to make me sweat; then the upper body routine, mostly with dumbbells. Went to 30 lb dumbbell for bent over rows. Managed 17.5 lb dumbbell for hammer curls while standing. I think all the standing is what did me in.

Went back in the evening for a Pilates mat class. Forget standing up on my toes with my feet together. No balance and no calf muscles.

My weight has gone back up 3 lbs. I think I stopped weighing except for once a month as these regular fluctuations were distressing. So 3x per week is out. Think I'll try two - maybe once on Tuesday and once on Saturday.

I still weigh daily but my official weigh in day is Saturday. Then I look back to see if I'm up or down from the prior week. Works for me mostly.

Friday: Still raining, and that dull ache in my knee still reminding me of how far I still have to go in my recovery. Woke at 3:30 AM and could not get back to sleep.

The challenge will be not eating out of tiredness and conducting a job interview over the laptop video camera with an expat Scot in Texas.

No weigh-in.

Today's Meals:

Breakfast: Asparagus, red pepper and spinach egg bake; home-made banana & prune muffin; blueberries with cinnamon & yogurt
Snack: Apple pie Quest bar
Lunch: A green, green salad: Mixed greens, cold asparagus, pistachios, gaucamole
Dinner: Eden Organic kamut &quinoa pasta, tuna & tomato sauce

Today's Exercise:

Front leg raise 3x20, Lateral leg raise 3x20, Side clams 3x20, Lateral leg raise 3x20, Bicycle 3x20, Kickback 3x20 and High knee 3x20.

Physical therapy:

12 minutes elliptical, harder going on hills; 4x12 bodyweight squats, barely any hip mobility; 4x12 hamstring curls & quad raises; 4x12 abductor/adductor machine; 12 minutes walking on treadmill to work on long smooth strides instead of self-protective shuffling

Dagmar,
While I have no issue with how often anyone weighs themselves (whatever works), the scientist in me needs to point out the fallacy of your rationale. If your weight fluctuates in a 3 pound range, you're just as likely to randomly choose the extreme points of that range if you weigh twice a week, as if you weigh 3x. If your psychology will allow it, you're much better off weighing daily but using a "rolling average" to track true weight/progress.

Saef-- a long way to go? Of course, but look how far you've come!!

Do you like the apple pie quest bar? I actually watched a short video this morning where they made a "pop tart" using that one. I eat quest bars but I haven't tried that one.

Very happy it's Friday! Dh came home yesterday. Last big China trip! He was so jet lagged! He's going to work on our taxes today/ this weekend because we need to get them done before we leave on our cruise next Saturday. He also does both of our dd's taxes. He is such a grouch when he works on them so I hope they go smoothly!

My weight is barely under my redline now. I need to try to stay focused until my cruise, and not go crazy on the cruise... That's the plan. Tomorrow I have an appointment with a new person (had a coupon) for a haircut, color and highlights. I have long, dark, curly hair and I rarely do more than color it so I'm always a tad nervous to do anything. I always want to try something new but it tends to always look the same! I don't want to go short because I like it long (as does dh) and it gets crazy curly the shorter it is (think wild Jew hair).

In puppy news (can you believe I haven't mentioned the puppy in a few days?!), we've almost decided on a name-- Ellie. I'm 95% sure and once I'm sure (of course we could always change it when we get her if it doesn't "fit")-- the breeder will start using her name so she may already know it when she comes home!
