Forgot to tell you all that my Mom is home from the hospital. I guess she got to go home on Tuesday and no one bothered to tell me. I meant to call my Dad for an update last night but time got away from me. I sent an email to my sister about Thanksgiving and it was she that told me...she had called my Dad to get an update and he said "she's home, she's cleaning the kitchen floor." So I guess she's okay...

Default no internet connection . . .

. . . until today. Didn't realize how dependent I've become on the net for everything.

DH spent all of today getting things up and running again. Since he farfeled them in the first place (by ordering the fibre optic modem without finding out how they would install the service) I didn't feel too bad about that.

I did thank him profusely as now I can communicate, shop, check the weather, etc. etc.

Have a great Friday evening all!

Unhappy vacation's really over now

Got up this morning to find a note on the kitchen table.

DH, after several shots of bourbon (brought home from the US by his wonderful sweetie - me!) and 3 beers, decided last night that he wants to quit his job. He says he needs "time to get my head and body together". He wants to go into debt to do so.

After my hands stopped shaking with anxiety and I no longer felt like throwing up I thought it through and came up with a compromise. We're going to argue all weekend now but I'm standing firm. Sigh.

DH always seems to come up with this stuff right after I've been really happy. Hmmm. At least he didn't ruin my vacation by telling me before I went.

I will not eat tonite, despite being anxious and depressed and bickering all day. If I have to go and sit in my car all evening I will do it but I will not eat.

Have a great Saturday all!

Dagmar

Oh Dagmar! At least he told you in writing so you have time to process your reaction before talking with him about it.

Yesterday we ended up with hurricane force winds i.e. >75 mph, and no power for 8+ hours, so the DVR installation got pushed back to today. Jessica, it's our local phone company that provides our digital TV service. We have only two "cable" options, or satellite (Direct TV or Dish Network). The pricing between the cable companies stays about the same, but with the phone company we get a discount for having all our services - local/LD phone, TV, internet and cell phone - with them, and it's all on one bill.

Megan - have fun in the Keys. I've only been there once, even though my parents lived in Sarasota from 1982 on....

I'm hoping for a quiet stay at home weekend. I'd love to see a movie, so maybe I'll rent one or check what's on "on demand." There is a new 12-plex being built in the next town, and I can't wait for it to open. Right now it's a 45 minute drive to the nearest movie theatre. DH is finishing up harvesting the garden/greenhouse, putting away hoses, deck furniture, etc. I'll be out on the riding mower this afternoon, cutting grass for the last time, but more importantly picking up leaves. With the high winds yesterday, we have plenty! We also had one tree come down, though it's hung up in some others so getting it out will be tricky. Lots of small branches around though, and my hanging basket looks worked over.

Cool

So DH and I resolved his quitting very nicely, without a lot of argument. I suspect he was rethinking things in a more sober frame of mind. He will still quit, but within 6 months rather than immediately, and will use it as a positive move toward something else, rather than stomping off in a hissy fit.

I knew there was a reason I've been with this guy for over 14 years. He can be the most sensible person on earth when it's called for, and can also then turn around and be a silly b*gger. Keeps life interesting.

Pat That sounds like some wind storm. We had a small taste today, while out biking, of fall weather and the wind was only about 30 km. Lots of small tree branches coming down. Fortunately we were biking on a wide expanse of low scrub-like stuff so didn't get hit with anything (except dust).

The skies over Toronto seem to be visually phenomenal this year. I must take my camera along and capture some photos of the TO skyline with all sorts of huge clouds whirling around. Today it could have passed for Batman's "Gotham" City".

Speaking of movies we saw a really cute one on DVD last night called "Mary and Max" - claymation, with a really good story line about friendship and being different from other people - quite sad and touching.

We're off to see the latest installment of "Resident Evil" (DH is a fan) tonite. I have already packed my 190 cal allotment of pretzels into a baggie and have it stashed in my purse. DH will have the small popcorn, no butter. We have to start taking the diet/maintenance thing seriously again, weekends included.

Have a great Saturday night all!

Pat-- wow! That sounds scary! Glad you are okay.

Dagmar-- glad you and dh are in a better place today. I assume he will need to find another job? How about he doesn't quit his job until he finds a new one?? I never understand people quitting their jobs without a backup (unless they don't need to work financially).

Dh is home from Africa/Dubai. I came home to find him a bit ago and he is jetlagged and asleep on the bed. Sigh... he may be home but I'm not sure how much fun he's going to be!
