Oh, no, it's a new one! She trains some UFC guys and it's on the UFC website. Good times, good times.
Pnawn da i chdi, Silver! |
Megan~you and Jessica reminded me of an album from the 70's that I used to have. Dan Fogelberg and Tim Weissburg--Twin Sons of Different Mothers. I may have to look for that on iTunes now.
My knee is feeling a lot better as I'm wearing a compression brace, but my lower leg, ankle and foot are very swollen so in a bit I may have to take it off and elevate it for a while. But it feels so much better to wear the brace. |
Well, stayed at the exact same weight this morning as yesterday. I did go over my calories yesterday, only 140 over. My body sure must calculate to the tee. lol

Once upon a time I had a welsh boyfriend, so I have visited Wales a couple of times, too. Very beautiful country!
My kids go to a school where spanish is taught from kindergarten. At this point (one in kinder, one in second grade), they already know more spanish that I do. I think it's great! And fruitlady, love your new av! My DH grew up in Allentown - must be near you, no? Midwife - GS cookies are not your friend. Have you checked the nutrition info? shocking! Allison, glad your knee is a bit better. Hi everybody else! |
Oh gosh, Wales is gorgeous. We were there in 2005 and I'll agree the language was totally incomprehensible!
We have immersion elementary schools (well, in Anchorage) in Japanese and Spanish. Plus I know that in addition the MS/HS teach (in addition to French and Spanish) Russian and I think German. I'm thinking, though I don't know, that they must teach Japanese too, for those kids in the immersion program that want to continue. I worked with a woman immigration lawyer who learned Japanese as an adult - not easy. Plus we have a great-nephew who is in the Navy, and they sent him to get an advanced degree (can't remember in what) in China! Both he and his wife had to go to a 6 month immersion type class to learn enough to go live there. Midwife - step away from the cookies :drill: |
Pat, are Russian and Japanese common in Alaska because of proximity? I studied Japanese in college and absolutely loved it. In high school I took Latin, but in retrospect I ought to have taken Spanish.
I'm having the munchies again today. Still at work so there's nothing to actually munch ON, but I may need a snack before dinner is cooked. |
I took French in high school and then majored in it in college, actually did student teaching in elementary school French. Went to an immersion course for Spanish when I was working for Burger King, almost a requirement for a trainer in food service these days. My stepson has a Mandarin class three times per week in his pre-K. I'm seeing more and more need for language skills every day.
Jessica - I wanted to take Latin, but my parents wouldn't let me. Said I would never use it. :) |
Midwife - did you say a month or so ago you were going to sell these GS things? And please, pity the poor foreigner: why are these things sold? Who benefits? Is it everywhere in the US? Elsewhere? And why do people buy them? It sounds like a huge marketing machine.
Languages are great. I love them. |
I took French in Junior High and can barely remember how to count to ten...My son is taking Latin. Talk about a dead language, but his thinking is that it is the root for so many other languages. Last summer while trying to learn some Italian, a lot of my French kept coming back to me.
And it's strange how many people I know who take/have taken Japanese in college! My niece is taking it and spent a semester there. She loved it. So, I wonder if the swelling I'm experiencing in my injured leg is what made the *(&*( scale go up into the DREAD zone. I'm so not making my goal... |
Sounds very plausible, Allison. Is it getting any better?
I did Latin for 5 years (from the age of 11). I find it enormously helpful in using English and opening doors into other languages and sciences. (Ancient Greek wd have been good too but wasn't available.) I must turn out the light. Good night, all. |
The knee pain is greatly reduced, but I wore the knee brace all night and my lower leg/foot got very swollen. I've had the brace off most of the day and the swelling is not going away. I think part of it is that this is the same leg that I had varicose vein surgery on a year or two ago. Lately I've been experiencing the same achy-ness that I had with the varicose veins and I think I'm getting a new one. I'm going to go home early and lie in bed with my foot up on pillows. I hope that will help the swelling and stop the ache.

Girl Scout cookies.....sold by Girl Scouts as a fundraiser for the individual girls, their troops, the troop region, and probably nationally too. They sell for $3.50 a box, and I think the girls keep 35 cents of each box. So not worth it. Because they are available for only 2 months a year, people buy a ton of them. I've actually done pretty well overall....all things considering....started on half a sleeve of thin mints while reading a book and well....you all know how that ends!
Ward is right. They are horrible, chemical-packed, manufactured, heart attack/diabetes inducing gut bombs that have no place in my body. Blah..... |
I haven't bought a single box of GS cookies this season that actually came home with me. I did buy a box at DSS's daycare and then left them on the counter for other people to eat. Felt kind of guilty about that, actually...
|
I successfully avoided them, too. I was with my daughter at Kroger, and I saw the GS outside. I explained that we weren't going to buy any cookies, so when they asked us, just say, "No, thank you." So the GS yell out to us, "Do you want to buy any cookies?" And my daughter yells back, "MY MOM WON'T LET ME!!!"

Hi everyone. This has been a chatty thread today :)
Heh, my overeating involved GS cookies, yup. I was eating them fast and furious when I remembered my no GS pledge. Yesterday I took our last box (I was involved in the eating of the first 4 boxes) to work and left it there at the end of the day- unopened by me. They really are gross and I did say that while they kept popping, ok I kept popping them, into my mouth. Language- I went to a jewish day school as a girl so I can eavesdrop on hebrew conversations but not really participate. French and spanish in high school. My spanish is adequate for what I do. I call it vaginal spanish ;) you all know I am a midwife, right? My spanish accent and vocab are ok but my grammar is horrible. I would love to do rosetta stone or some other program and get much better. Pop yesterday, scale to 126. Today, not pop but calories within maintenance. Nice chicken veg thing in crockpot, so there is healthy food for tomorrow. Love the chat! Until tomorrow...:) |
