Size 4!! Awesome, Jessica!

WTG on the swimming, Becky! I don't understand the lingo either, but it sounds impressive.

SB, I need a final push too. I thought Primal would be it, but I had the worst GI side effects. I wondered if it might have been a virus, but then I just started eating what seemed like it would settle my tummy, and the symptoms resolved. Hmmmm....

Kitty, when is your procedure?

ICUwishing 04-19-2010 03:16 PM

Quick swim lingo definitions. There's 3 sizes of competition pools: short-course yards (25 yards one-way), short-course meters (25 meters one-way), and long-course meters (50 meters one-way). Long course meters are what you see in the Olympics. Stroke abbreviations are: BK = backstroke, BR = breaststroke, FL = butterfly, and FR = freestyle. IM = individual medley, which is FL/BK/BR/FR and comes in the flavors of 100,200,400 distance.

So, it was a short-course yards meet, and I swam a 2 length backstroke, a 4 length backstroke, and a 4 length (one length of each stroke) individual medley.

Hope that helps! :) And thanks for the :cheer:!

Midwife - do you mean eating gRa..inS to settle your tummy? I've had some GI weirdness but I link it to hummus (and apple) as snacks. Good so far but then DB opened a tin of chickpeas and mixed it with tahini. I just kept on going with this for snacks. Overload. And I think pulses (legumes?) are considered more grain than protein, aren't they?

 all round. We'll get there.

Congrats, Jessica. Bet the weight training is shrinking you. Lovely to hear you more relaxed.

paperclippy 04-20-2010 09:30 AM

Thanks for the explanation Becky, now I am even more impressed with your swim times! Go you!

Midwife, too bad about the GI side effects. That's like how my sister was a vegetarian for years, but ended up having to go back to eating meat because of GI side effects (something to do with all those beans for protein  but I don't remember exactly, just that her doctor told her to eat meat again!). Have you tried Volumetrics?

I posted this in the chat thread but I thought I would repost here for the people who don't read that one. Last night I had a dream that a chocolate cake (on a tricycle) was chasing me, and I was running away because I knew if it caught me I would eat it! I think it is belated guilt over eating some chocolate cake Saturday night.

Hmmm, I wrote a post which did not get posted!
Probably got distracted at work and did not hit the post reply key...

On bus getting motion sick so will be brief.
Tomorrow is the Big day. Right now more focused on the elective nature and risks of this surgery. I mean, i Could live with my hernia. But I am using the repair as a reason to move ahead with a more aesthetic agenda. Send me your best vibes, chicks.

silverbirch 04-20-2010 04:20 PM

Good vibes coming through, KC. And more. And some for luck.

 kitty. Good vibes coming your way!

Nice swim, Becky! When are you going to be in Atlanta? If you are going to be at Tech you will be pretty darn close to one of my company's locations!

kittycat40 04-20-2010 11:14 PM

One of the lines in my nonenterered post was related to how awesome Becky's swimming is and she hasn't yet gotten to Atlanta! Go Becky GO :) on all fronts swimming including the swimgear :)
And you, Jess, with your bad a$$ size 4 self!
Midwife, I try to be more paleo and less primal. (regarding food vs.personal communication style ;))
Shannon, saw your marathon plans, noice!
Silver, I will take any and all good vibeage.

Setting up my bedroom for the following 72 hours...

WardHog 04-21-2010 07:09 AM

Thinking of you, kitty.

Shannon, I am going to try to go see Becky swim. Want to meet there?

silverbirch 04-21-2010 08:34 AM

Oh, Becky, Ward, Shannon! I would love to be there too but it doesn't seem possible from where I am at the moment!

paperclippy 04-21-2010 08:48 AM

Kitty, good luck with the surgery! :getwell:

Shannon and Ward, I want to go see Becky swim! But Google Maps tells me it is an 8-hour drive. :( In some ways, Indianapolis is close to everything, but in other ways it is far from everything!

WardHog 04-21-2010 09:03 AM

Jessica & silver, I'll come pick you guys up!

ok, not really. But I would love to meet all of you! ;)

midwife 04-21-2010 11:26 AM

Wish I was close enough to Atlanta to make it!

SB, without going into too much information-land, I wondered if I didn't have dysentary during the week I was primal. Now, I might have had a virus....might have been coincidence, but I suspect my body was rebelling. I bought a book called "Paleo for Athletes" so I'll read that, but I might just go back to what has worked well for me in the past. Or I might try Primal one more go around.

Kitty, best wishes and thoughts being sent your way.

Jessica, I caught your chocolate cake from your dream in the form of a birthday cake here at work. Alas....

Shannon in ATL 04-21-2010 11:31 AM

Ward - sure, I'm up for meeting to cheer for Becky! I remember May, what was the date? ETA - duh, just looked back at her signature and see the dates. :)

Birch & Jessica, yes, long travel times to get here. Longer for Birch... :)

Midwife - be careful with the diet! Sounds like a pretty unpleasant experience with Primal the first time around. Ick.

Kitty - thinking about you today!

WaterRat 04-21-2010 02:28 PM

A little far for me too! Though I am going to be in the Atlanta airport for a little over an hour in the afternoon of April 30. :) On my way from Boston to Clearwater....

Hope everything is going well for you Kitty!
