Oh, definitely I won't be a stranger! And I must say that I love your posture in your new avatar, Silver!

Struggling a bit with food this week. I'm in the office this week with a stack of scientific papers on bacterial studies (are you snoring yet? I am) to read and summarize and I've been getting the afternoon boredom munchies every day. Yesterday the bread I ate made me really tired, and then I had a crappy workout b/c I was so tired. Come on, Megan.

Jessica, HIIT running (not just HIIT stairmaster) is added to my list of things I will do in my hard-core month! Great job!

midwife, silver, what is CC? (For me it is core competencies, related to the university I work with.)

midwife 03-04-2010 09:35 AM

Calorie counters, baby! Hopefully, they'll rub off on me! ;)

silverbirch 03-04-2010 10:00 AM

Megan - I've been spending too much personal time with bacteria recently so I understand. That's why I'm now on Antibiotics for the Hard Core.

cc is also cubic EDITED - thanks Ward & Mid - centimetre. That was quite important to me when I rode motorbikes.

Megan1982 03-04-2010 10:20 AM

Ah, congrats on the mod position midwife!

A few summers ago a co-worker and I were measuring oysters for an oyster growth project. We give them two letter abbreviations and glue them to the shell to ID them each month. We started going kooky... there was an "HP" for Harry Potter, co-worker loves NPR so she started doing NPR host initials (DR was Diane Reams, etc.). Are we dorky scientists or what?

WardHog 03-04-2010 12:25 PM

Congratulations, midwife!

cc = cubic centimeter or carbon copy (remember those?)

I have been really consistently staying on plan, plus hitting the exercise pretty hard and ... drum roll ... I weighed under 130 this morning. 129.8, but I'll take it! Goal weight is in sight! :carrot:

Megan, just think about the bacteria that's contaminating those snacks. Then you won't want to eat them. ;)

Hi to everyone else!

midwife 03-04-2010 12:35 PM

cc = cubic centimeter = mL.

cc = mL. This was burned into my brain during my anatomy class.

I took it at a community college (also a CC!) and the crotchety old professor said to us: "Most of you are nursing students. If you learn one thing from me, it is that a cc is the SAME thing as an mL."

He'd gone to the ER and was being wheeled back on a gurney and the doc ordered something in "cc's" and the nurse asked "How many mLs is that?" and the professor yelled "It's that same dang thing!" (except he used more colorful language) Anyway, that was the one thing he wanted burned into our brains....and he burned it in!

For me CC is the size of my breast implant... 500cc... which I guess equals 500ml...

Megan - bacterial studies... exciting... :)

I've been doing okay the last several days. Done a good job with the diet, got in some strength training and an okay run yesterday. Feel fairly bloated and puffy today - waist and tummy are an inch bigger than Monday. Do people who have built more muscle see more impact from water retention and constipation? I don't remember this much difference in the past...

 to all!

paperclippy 03-04-2010 04:39 PM

LOL Megan, that is totally the kind of thing I would do (I mean about the HP, DR, etc oysters). I am becoming more and more convinced that we are twins separated at birth.

CC also means cubic centimeters to me!

Shannon, they say that muscle retains more water than fat, so maybe it is why you are seeing more?

alinnell 03-04-2010 04:56 PM

LOL CC was the name of my dog. It was short for Canine Companion, but when we had to pick a pedigree name for her, it had to go along with the CC idea so we chose Lady Cecilia Gold (she was a golden retriever).

Hi, I'm new to 5-10 in 2010. I usually post in all the threads. I have been maintaining for 9mo. I keep going up and down with my weight, between 104 and 109lbs. Well, I'm at 109 right now and I never let myself go over 109lbs. I would like to get back down again and stay there, I was thinking maybe this thread would help. Nice to meet you all!

Well I have told you (haven't I?) that my sister is named Jessica, my best friend growing up across the street my whole life is Jessica, one of my college roommates who is still one of my best friends is Jessica, another adult roommate is Jessica... me and Jessicas seem to find each other! Though none of us had as much in common in terms of likes, dislikes etc as you and I do (I suppose my sis & I do have more in common since we share so much DNA).

Ward, that's pretty gross since the bacteria I'm reading about in particular is the kind that comes from pooh! Improperly working septic tanks etc. Thanks for the gross visual (er, you can't see bacteria, but YKWIM).

Fruitlady, welcome! Some of us have that 5-10 lbs to take off, other have, ahem, 15 or 20. We're all cheering each other on. Glad you've joined us!

I've lost 6 of my 8 lbs of water weight from last weekend, going into another busy social weekend. I'm trying NOT to have the mentality "oh I'm about to start my month of being really strict, I should blow it out now". I know I will be drinking some alcohol and eating some things off plan, but will try to listen to my body about stopping when full, eat my veggies, and will definitely be exercising.

Shannon in ATL 03-05-2010 10:23 AM

Good morning!

My extra inches from the water retention seem to be gone, but the weight itself is hanging on. 1/2 pound of the 4 is still there. We'll see what happens over the weekend, but I expect to eat at least one high sodium meal so figure it will still be there Monday.

Hi fruitlady!

Megan - enjoy your weeked!

Good day all!

fruitlady 03-05-2010 04:38 PM

Hi everyone, thanks for the warm welcome. I've been sticking with it for the past two day. I lost 1/2 lb. At least it's something

silverbirch 03-05-2010 05:02 PM
