Good morning! Does anyone have the day off today? DH is blissfully sleeping in this morning, though he has an 8 am phone meeting scheduled (so much for the "day off" ) The gym is on its usual schedule, so I'll be heading up that way in a half hour. Leg Day!!
DH and I leave for New Mexico for DD's wedding next Monday, so this week is the final countdown. I think everything is under control, at least I hope so, never having done a wedding before. My nightmare is that I forgot something very significant ... I've already dreamt that I left my dress in Pittsburgh and had to wear jeans and a sweater to the wedding.
Cooking a ton of food for the freezer last week really has been helpful at keeping my eating on track. I don't mind eating the same things every day, so long as they're good.
What are everyone's plans for Thanksgiving? Are you hosting? Traveling? Any great light recipes to share?
Check in and tell us about your weekend and what's going on this week. Newbies and lurkers are extra-welcome!
Gosh Meg, your are in the final stages for the wedding. How exciting!!!
We are going to my mom for Thanksgiving. We split the cooking between her, my sister and myself. They will be making the high calorie stuff, except for the turkey which my mom makes. I will be bringing along roasted asparagus and brussel sprouts and 2 salads. And an apple crisp and maybe a pumpkin pie as well
Kind of dull around here. I had a pretty decent, on plan weekend. Today it's more of the same. Some grocery shopping to do, then some cooking, a little work thrown in and then it's off to that other job - where I get to exercise for a couple of hours.
I hope you all have some more exciting things on your plate for the day/week. Whatever it is you've got going on - I hope it's all good.

The Boy has the day off, but I have an 8 am meeting, followed by a 12 pm meeting, a 2 pm meeting, and a 6:30 pm work dinner. So much for days off. In fact, if I'm going to get to the gym at all today, I need to leave in 15 minutes. Even then, I have to go to the crappy gym (i.e., the one without power cages), so it'll probably have to be elliptical or arms for me.
No great plans for T-Day. FIL is coming out for 10 days. He's pretty much your average sit-around-the-house, watch-a-lot-of-sports-TV, and wait-for-me-to-cook houseguest. Easy enough, but the contrast with my parents (who are a good 10 years older, but MUCH healthier and more active) is pretty extreme.
It's an odd day around here. I'm off but this is my regular Monday off. I have a chiropractor's appt but the bank and post office are closed. I have a dry soup mix that I use a lot and it's half price this week. So I hope the grocer is open.
Meg, wow you must be super excited about the wedding. I wish you and your family a blessed event! Have fun cooking and freezing!
For some reason Saturday morning I weighed 117.2 lbs and yesterday and this morning I weighed 118.6? Not sure what happened. Weird. Been 117 for over a week, didn't eat anything unusal, was just as active. I'm just not sure. Not going to worry about it. Going to stay the course.
Thanksgiving is this Sunday for my family because my brother and his family will be out of town. Not worried about the holiday. I've got it under control.
No special plans for me today, it's just a regular work day (11/11 is a holiday, but since it fell on a Sunday this year, we didn't get anything at all for it--too bad!). My only plans are to go on keeping my eating in control, which has taken a good start, since I got greeted upon arriving at work at 11 am by a set of big croissants, only to realize that I didn't even feel like having any (in spite of being slightly hungry after two previous hours of class). It's sunny, there's the lovely prospect of having to bike against the wind with a laptop on my back to go back home, everything's well in the world.
I'm still unsure about what to think about the play I saw yesterday. It was the first time I saw King Lear, so I guess I was expecting something more along the classic lines--well, let's say that for one of the great four shakespearian tragedies, the audience definitely laughed a lot. I think some eyes decided to rot in some people's orbits when Lear's actor actually stripped butt-naked on stage, then partly hid himself under the stage to cover himself with mud, without realizing that we in the first ranks still had a, ah, very nice vew on some dangling bits. And the Fool's part was terrific. On the other hand, I didn't really like the acting of the guy who was playing Edgar/Tom (he sounded too mechanical to my liking). Which is a shame, Poor Tom is definitely a very interesting character to see 'in the flesh', so to say. Anyway, I'd say it was an interesting play in itself; I just felt like it didn't truly reflected the spirit of King Lear, so even though I still had a good 4 hours at the theatre, I'm a little miffed about it all.
I was actually able to cook last night, so we had chicken tikka masala (yum!) and roasted broccoli. The chicken is made with a lot of heavy cream, which wigs me out a bit, but it makes a LOT of food, and works out to 250 or 300 calories a portion. The recipe says serves 4-6, but I halved it this time and it made 5 good-sized servings.
I'm having good days and bad days now. The fatigue will kill me one day, and the next I'll be just fine. I'm developing a more or less consistent case of evening sickness though, last night notwithstanding, so I've been loading my calories early in the day, because the odds of me eating after 3 pm are 50/50 at best. I should have maybe 4 more weeks of this before I get the 2nd trimester reprieve. This is starting to feel more real, and I'm getting more comfortable with the idea that this could actually work out this time, after the previous badnesses.
BTW: anything you think you know about maintenance calories goes right out the window when you are pregnant. I'm gaining on what used to be a maintenance level for me, even taking into account the drop in activity levels. Hormones!
DD is making great strides at potty training! I'm pretty happy about that, since I really don't want to deal with more than one set of diapers at a time!
Our Thanksgiving plans include a lot of lying around and doing nothing. We don't travel on the major holidays, since it is a pain in the rear and we'd have to make either his or my family mad to do it. No one is visiting us this year, and I think we are going to grill some chicken, maybe make up some Stove Top and green beans, and call it done. DH likes to ride (NO traffic at all on Thanksgiving and Christmas), and there is a 5K I usually do, that has an associated 1.5 mile fun run/walk that I can probably manage.
Good Morning The weekend was only so-so. I went to a soup supper on Saturday but at least didn't get any pie. I survived a Brownie Field trip yesterday. I ate my apple and cheese stick instead of using the vending machines with the girls. No one at this house has a day off today so it's pretty much a normal week. I've had my egg and kashi 7-grain pilaf this morning. I'm feeling full and happy. I'm supposed to go to a Pampered Chef party tonight. I'll have to stay away from all the munchies. Have a great week.
Good morning!! I hope everyone had a good weekend. This morning I'm at 120.5...interesting, since, food-wise, this weekend was not great! But other than that...wonderful!
I went to Athens for the big Georgia-Auburn game. We BLACKED OUT the stadium. There were rumors that the team, who usually wears their traditional red jerseys for home games, would be wearing black as well. The seniors had requested the fans all wear black and we did...it was amazing. But Coach Richt said it would be near impossible to get new jerseys in a week's time. We always get to the game 2 hours early. When the team came out for warmups, they were in their red. Oh well. Still possible to change! They went back in while the band did their thing. The captains came out....in red. Oh well. and THEN the team ran out through the big G...in BLACK JERSEYS! The place went crazy. I'm a bit too emotionally invested in Georgia football. I was so excited/emotional I couldn't decide if i'd cry or throw up! The hype worked, cause we whipped them. When I have more time, I'll post a picture of the blacked out stadium.
TDay is nothing major...although, my ex-boyfriend(not the one I just broke up with, the one before him) is coming. He can't go home for the break cause its 6 1/2 hours away from his school and he has to work on Black Friday. I'm hoping things aren't awkward. The past few years we've gone to my Great Aunt's for lunch...and My mom orders stuff from Honey Baked Ham. However, I'm going to try and cook a few Cooking Light recipes.
Ok, this is really long....Have a great day everyone!
Went to a church potluck last nite , did ok with portion control until I got to the dessert table, just couldn't resist the cherry pie! A dessert eaten out doesn't count, right? I never (or rarely) have a whole pie in my house , that is just too dangerous.
I ate and drank a lot this weekend. It was slightly out of hand. Good food, not junk, but even good food has calories in it...My friend who is a classically trained chef had us over for dinner last night and made a French peasant dish called pot au feu: basically a giant pot of meats boiled in stock with several sauces on the side. My plate contained buttered noodles, a sausage, half a cornish game hen and a giant chunk of beef. Add the sauces and the baguette with european style butter and I suspect that I may have gone over my maintenance calories for the day.
Today is a work day for me too. My college doesn't close for the second-order public holidays, unfortunately. We do get the entire week of Thanksgiving off though, so I just need to survive this week and then I can have a real break. I need it.
I need to head off for my run, but it is WINDY out there! We appear to be having a very autumny day.
Kery, sorry you didn't enjoy the play. I guess that's the trouble with plays, when you think about it: staging and performing requires interpretation, and people interpret in different ways. I don't think you ever see the same play twice.
Libby, sometimes weight goes up a little, sometimes it goes down...As long as it isn't connected to unrestrained eating or exercise slackerdome, I suspect there's no reason for concern.
Well, I enjoyed it in a way, and in another way it was quite different from what I expected. But I wouldn't say I had a boring/crappy time all the same. Actually, far from it.
And I didn't realiz it was Robin's birthday (I should read that part fo the board more often, huh?), so HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
As a side note, I've just had my annual physical (work-related, mandatory) and I'm glad, because it was all good. My heart rate at rest is the lowest it's ever been, and the doc said it was even time I stopped losing weight (yeah, well, if it stops when I'm eating normally, then it stops, but if it goes down some more, I sure ain't going to gorge myself to prevent it ). It's a nice feeling to actually NOT dread those physicals--if only because at least you don't have to deal with the "you know, you should REALLY lose someweight" suggestion.
OK ... I'm having a problem with this birthday of Robin's. 57??? I even went to look at her pictures again. Wowee! 57???
I want her to have a fabulous, wonderful birthday but 57??? Must be a typo.
