Hi Ladies

How's it going hope everyone is GI'ing along I have been doing not too bad a few cheats here and there but hey we are not perfect. I'm getting ready for small vacation leave tomorrow for 5 days already planning menu's lol..but I expect a few bad days but that's ok. My walking has been coming along great I look forward to it now. Been pretty busy so haven't posted but check in to see how everyone is doing.

Teaching must be great fun Bella. and lots of patience i bet. As far as lunch goes well you could do leftovers etc since you have the micro and stuff. I always double up batches of stuff and going to get one of those sectional lunch things. Slow cooker stuff is great too. I get tired of sandwiches as well and salads.

I finally weighed myself so far I'm down 5lbs going slow but I believe the inches are going as my clothes fit different. I took measurements awhile back nearly fell on the floor lol..so will wait a bit for that too.

I do respite care for a young mom look after her baby he is 2.5 with cerbal palsy and other stuff. I keep him overnight 3 times a month so I spent the day with him went for a short walk but too warm really. So need to catch up on my exercise today. Off to work shortly walk to the bus terminal.

Have a great week and HAPPY GI'ING

I just read the SB book and tried it this past week and at first it was okay until the cravings kicked in. I guess I do love the carbs after all. So, would anyone say that I would be better off with the GI diet due to my carb cravings.

tobetheman: I definitely think the low GI plan works better because nothing is eliminated, just different foods are emphasized!

It's sure been quiet around here! LOL

I'm back to teaching and going to grad school so I've been crazy and I've been struggling with getting organized enough to pack my low gi meals. While I usually do leftovers as you suggested Chiky, my problem right now is that I don't have time to cook (I get out of class at 9:30PM) so I really need to plan ahead and pack my meals... but I hate spending my weekend cooking a bunch of meals! I think I'm going to be relying on a combination of sandwiches and maybe lean cuisine type microwave meals with added salads and veggies. It's going to be a crazy semester!

On the bright side people are noticing my weight loss and that sure feels good!
I've also been keeping up with my exercise (minus a few days last week when I was just too beat to move more than strictly necessary!).

How's everyone else doing???

Hi Everyone!

Don't worry, I haven't desserted you all!! I've still got my visitors over from the UK until Friday ... it's been a very hectic couple of weeks!! It's great to see them all but it will be nice to get back into my normal routine after this weekend.

Haven't been near the scales ... the past 2 weeks have been a round of over induldging with both food and drink, so I dread getting on the scales!! I can tell by my clothes that I've gained!!

Anyway, I'll be getting straight back on track as soon as they've left ... starting from scratch again I'm sure, but I will do it!!

Catch up with everyone again soon.

Hi everyone
I've been reading a lot about the gi diet mainly since I'm borderline diabetic and need to lose ton's of weight. My husband is diabetic and it's seems a good thing to follow all the way around. Since we're in mexico it's kind of hard to find books on the subject so the only way to find info is through the net. Overall how hard has it been for everyone?

Hi Gorda,
I think for me the hardest part was getting it all figured out in the beginning. It has not been hard to follow AT ALL once I figured out what better choices were. I have not felt deprived or hungry at all. It's just a matter of adjusting to the different choices. Most Mexican food (the real deal not tex mex) is great for low gi so you should be set!

Nichola,
Good luck getting back on track! Don't beat yourself up too bad, it's all part and parcel!

As for me, I'm stuck. I'm down one more pound but I think with the changes in my schedule and the stress I've been eating more calories than I was before so I'm not worried. I'm working on getting my food made ahead of time because I know what a huge difference (really HUGE) that makes for me!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi Everyone, I'm back! Finally got rid of the visitors ... it was great seeing them again but such a relief to have the place back to ourselves again!!

Due to all the over-induldgence whilst they were here I've gained 5lbs!!!! Can't say that I'm happy about that but I'm now back on track and determined to get this weight off once and for all!! I was sick and tired of going out with our visitors wearing clothes that I could barely fit into ... and my friend has a great figure and was always wearing trendy clothes ... tight little tops with stringy straps and pretty little summery skirts ... I felt like her mother ... and she's a year older than me!! I know I've said this a thousand times before, but this time I'm going to do it!!

I've got my new Gi Cookery books and lots of good food in the cupboards/fridge, so there's nothing stopping me now!! I'll get back to posting my daily menus and hope everyone else can do the same ... we need to stick together to do this!

Hope everyone else is doing well ... Catch up with you all again tomorrow.

Hi everyone

I too am doing a low GI diet. Have been focussing on it for the past month and am now down 6lbs.

For dinner tonight (OH is out for a business dinner) it was just me so I had some basmati rice, steamed broccolini (heaps!) and thai coconut curry fish. Was delicious! I bought some frozen fish portions on my last shopping trip and this one was great. Microwavable, but still had great flavour. The fish was a hake fillet. The other one I got is a provencale salmon so am looking forward to it as I love salmon.

One of the main things I wanted to do was increase my intake of fish as I love seafood of all kinds and being in Australia there is an abundance of great seafood. We had our Fathers Day on Sunday here and I bought some muscles, cockle shells and tiger prawns, headed up to Dad's and we had a great feast. Was a lovely lunch.

Anyway, I have just started really getting into this seriously and did my first bit of exercise today. I did 20 mins of tae bo and am still feeling that indescribable feeling after vigorous exercise. You know, the light on my feet feeling and yet feeling a little sore in places

So I hope you don't mind me joining the thread, but it will be great to swap tips and receipes with you all. I have been searching my cookbooks for GI friendly foods and have found a sweet potato salad that I am dying to try out. Looks really good. I am also wanting to try some legume based dishes - like soups and stews.

Feeling really good and positive tonight

Talk to you soon

Hi all, I just learned about this site and was really suprised that there isn't more information about the Glycemic Index. I was just recently diagnosed with Pre-Diabetes, I am 33, and was told to cut out the High-GI foods in my diet. Well I went out and bought all of the Glycemic Revolution books, including the pocket guides so that I can have them in my purse...lol Anyway, I have been doing this for about 2 months and my weight has not changed. I can tell by my clothes that SOMETHING is happening, but I am not seeing it on the scale.
On the other hand, my daughter, age 11, was diagnosed with having Metebolic Symdrome, basically a form of insulin resistance in her body, and I found out that the Low-GI eating pattern would be good for her. So she has been eating Low-Gi and controlling portions and has lost 9 lbs!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!?!

My question to anyone that can help is, I am doing so well with my daughter, but not too well with myself. I exercise at least 3 times a week - HUGH increase from previous attempts to lose weight, and I too have cut my portion sizes. What can stop me from losing ACTUAL pounds? Oh yeah, I am increasing my water intake too, I am at 3 32oz cups a day. ANY advise would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Daisy! I too love fish and seafood and certainly get a lot of yummy fresh stuff here in the caribbean. Beans and legumes are part of my diet all the time so I'd be glad to share recipes!

Pherrise: If your clothes are getting looser then something is happening... What are you eating? You mention you cut out high gi foods but how about portion sizes? What foods do you eat most often? How is your diet calorie wise? Low GI is great but calories still matter. Good for you for starting on the exercise! I've been exercising regularly for a few months now and I'm surprised at how much better I feel, even when the scale isn't moving.

Happy GI ing!

You know I have thought about that myself. Even though I am doing the Low-GI items, I think my calories are up there, even though I am watching the portion size. I have been trying to follow the menu plans in the books, but some of the meals are a bit much to handle, shopping wise and cooking wise.

I will admit, I have been cooking more and enjoying it. But I need some really simple ideas for dinner. Breakfast and Lunch I have down pat. I even have the mid-morning snack and mid-afternoon snack. But I would hate to believe that I am sabotaging my progress by over-doing the dinner meals. I have been looking for a site or book that has easy to create menu plans. I have thought about ediets, but I really dont want to commit to the pricing plans. Suggestions?

Hi and 'welcome' to the newbies, sorry I've not been around for a while ... been having problems getting back on track since my visitors left! Seem to have been yo-yoing up and down with the same 3lbs for the past few weeks!!

Basically, I do agree with the calorie thing. I know for a fact that although I can stick to right foods, I tend to kid myself that I'm not over-eating calorie-wise. So I've decided that whilst I'm going to stick with lower Gi Foods, I'm also going to keep track of my calorie intake, because no matter what diet plan we are following, a successful weight-loss all depends on not eating more calories than than our bodies can burn up ... does that make sense?

Pherrise, I agree with you about some of the recipes in cookery books being a bit hard to handle ... they're ok if you're having people round for a nice dinner but not really what you want to be cooking for your everyday meals. One of the books that I ordered recently from Amazon is pretty good, 'The High-Energy Cookbook' by Rachael Anne Hill ... it has lots of nice easy to follow recipes for 'normal' meals, using ingredients that you would normally have in your cupboards/fridge, and also shows the nutritional information for each serving. It has recipes for breakfast, lunchboxes & snacks, quick lunches & suppers, entertaining and puddings. Just to give you an idea, some of the recipes included are pesto pasta; vegetable burritos; creamy bacon and mushroom carbonara; chilli pasta bake; prawn and butter bean rice; asian salmon with rice noodles; chargrilled salmon, spinach and tomato stack; creamed leek and smokey fish pie; bag-baked chicken with butter beans; beef and tomato gratin ... all with easily available ingredients and nothing complicated, I can recommend it.

On the subject of exercise, I really do need to get myself motivated, so I've set myself a challenge to start walking EVERY DAY starting Monday ... I'm so unfit that I can't walk too far without getting breathless, but if I can manage around 30mins a day to begin with I'd be really happy with that. I'll let you know how I get on!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Hey wb Nichola!
I hear you on the recycling pounds. I seem to have an annoying pattern going on... I reach a mini goal then spend one or two weeks battling 2-3 pounds then I lose some more and then the same issue, up 2 down 1 etc. LOL It's annoying but I guess it's good practice for maintaining.

I'm working out at the gym nowadays and have progressed so much it's incredible. If I can do it, you can do it Nichola! I'm starting to work on running now and while it's slow, I keep in mind that walking 2 miles in 30 minutes used to be hard for me not so long ago.

Have you tried something like Sansone's walk away the pounds? I use those pretty often because they are simple yet effective.

Pherise,
with regards to the dinner issue I've mostly developed a series of simple meals I usually prepare... stir fry with lots of veggies, curry, rice and beans, sweet potato and chicken breast with salad, etc. I keep it simple and I freeze extra portions. Otherwise, it gets too time consuming and too high cal for me!

Good luck!!
