One thing you could try is sticking to the very low gi foods for a bit and see if that kickstarts the scale. You may also want to try cycling your calories. In other words, you eat low cal one day, medium the next, high another, etc. It's supposed to work for busting out plateaus and loss in general because it keeps your metabolism guessing rather than adjusting to your calorie level. I haven't tried this personally though (I have a rough enough time getting organized with menus and shopping, adding one more thing would just be too crazy right now LOL!)

Don't give up! It's only a matter of persistence before you see the numbers moving!
I agree that your calories may be a bit too low. Your body might be thinking you are needing to store up! I can't imagine being satisfied on so little personally but we're all different. It sounds like cycling might be worth a try for you. Hang in there!!!

Slim, the Goulash recipe sounds good ... definitely one I'll be trying! As far as you eating more lower carb ... you go ahead and do whatever is right for you. I am also trying (trying!!) to eat less rice/pasta/bread but still getting plenty of the good carbs with veggies/fruit etc. So you go ahead and do what works best for you.

Kay ... hope you don't mind me calling you Kay ... sounds friendlier than Mrszebs Sorry to hear about your gain, I know how frustrating and disappointing it is when you think you're doing everything right only to find out that you haven't lost ... hang in there! Carry on GIing but keep track of you calories for a few days so that you can see if that's where the problem is. Also of course, as you've already mentioned, you're doing more exercise than usual so that could also have an effect. Whatever you do, don't give up ... there's a logical reason for it ... just take a bit of time to work out why, and give your body chance to adjust to your new lifestyle ... it will work!! If I don't have a loss this week I am also going to start to keep track of calories again ... but in my case I want to make sure that I'm not overeating!!

Leticia, can't wait to try the Mango Chicken ... sounds delicious!

Yesterday's Menu ......

Breakfast - Allbran with low Gi fruit yogurt

Lunch - Large bowl of raw vegetable sticks with Houmous ... not very exciting but just what I fancied!

Snack - Low Gi fruit yogurt

Dinner - Vegetarian Chilli with basmati rice

Snack - Orange

Need to try to drink more water!!

Slim: that goulash does look good even though the word goulash always triggers a negative reaction in me LOL I think I'll call it a stew
As far as eating lower carb, I have no objections either. That just means that you are sticking to lower gi foods technically.

Personally, I can't do it. I can't sustain it so I'm not even trying. I refuse to do anything I am unwilling to do long term. But, that's just me we all need to do different things for our bodies.

Anyone know if veggie burgers are low gi??

Hello Ladies

Well im sure liking these recipes so far can't wait too try..I was looking for something different for chicken that sounds great. But I used my mango in a smoothie this morning good reason to walk to store lol..My gf came over this am (really freakin early 630 lol) to go for a walk but ended up storming like crazy so we ended up going over the gi diet and I set her up on fitday. I like fitday gives you a pretty good idea of how your doing in the different areas. I bought my pedometer yesterday and today I walked just over 4000 steps my goal is 10,000 a day there is a few programs online that I have read about starting out etc. Well here is my menu for yesterday and today

Think I mentioned that we were getting together for lunch with a gf that has breast cancer and just had removed. Was great seeing here and inspiration she is sooooo up about it so far. She is dreading the chemo though but she has lots of support which I think is the best thing.

Ok here goes
B=Oatmeal 1/2 cp w/almonds coffee
S=Apple 4 triscuits (50%less salt) w/ultra lite cream cheese
L=1 cp roast chicken (from Zehrs) cesaer salad fruit cheese (4) pickles
pumpernickel bun w/marg. 1/2 scoop Ben& Jerry's cookies and cream 1/2scoop sugar free chocolate ice cream 1 mini blueberry tart coffee and water
D=chicken breast 1/2 sweet potatoe few pieces broccolli and cauliflower
coffee
S=S/F hot choc 1 sl bread (sml) w/PB

Not the greatest but i put on fitday and still under 1600 cals.

Today
B=Smoothie w/tofu and whey protein blueberries and mango
S=apple 10 almonds coffee
L=salad w/avocodo and grapefruit o/v dressing water tea
S=Popcorn /water(went to movies with son matinee Wedding chaser really funny)
D=Spag w/tofu and bean sauce 1 pumpernickel bun w/garlic butter
Orange juice

Hopefully perk up the exercise tomorrow. I'm looking after a friends baby overnite (has cerbal palsy) so will take him for a walk if its nice out.

Well thats it for now and I think we are all on track so far and doing great, even if it's slow at times we are doing it.

Happy GIing
Wendy

You guys can call me Kay that is fine. The mrszebs is just a screen name anyways. I told myself that this week i was weighing in on Monday and i was not going to touch the scale again until next Monday, due to my compulsive need to weigh myself daily. Well i was a bad girl and this morning i did it again. I was just so upset by the 1 pound gain. Today i as down 1.2 lbs. So i am at 198 even now! Now I am happier. This morning i got my brother, mother and a sister to go to an aerobics class with me for an hour then i went back at 5 pm for my abs@5 (15 minutes class that works only on your abs). That is a Monday-Friday class and i said what the hey it is only 15 minutes. My shirt was looking like it was falling off me. That is of course a GREAT sign. So I REALLy am going to try not to weigh myself tomorrow but no promises!! LOL So how is everyone else doing?

Talking

Thank you Thank you...
How has everyone else been doing? I did o.k. Today is the first day i had something "outside" of my food list. I passed my real estate license exam so i awarded myself with a cinnamon bun from cinnabon. They are SO loaded with fat but they are SO good. I haven't eaten one in i can't remember how long so I awarded myself that way. I enjoyed it to.
Hope all are doing well. If any of you guys want a buddy to talk to you can e-mail me at anytime [email protected]
Talk soon

Congratulations Kay on getting your license!!!!!

I think ocassional treats are great as long as they are savored and not mindless munching (read below LOL). I know I'd go crazy if I didn't treat myself every now and then, but when I do it deliberately I don't feel guilty and I don't overindulge! So, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your treat!!!!

I baked some low gi, lowfat cookies and well, I didn't so much savor as devour them! LOL Wrong time of the month to be baking cookies! I learned that lesson right quick! LOL So now, I'm stocked up on fat free chocolate pudding and I'm going to beat my PMS cravings this month! I hope

Hi folks,

Just signed on to post another recipe. I don't have a name for this, just something I came up with that is delicious! Very easy to make...

Cook this in the crockpot:

Rump roast
1 medium onion
1 red bell pepper, chopped
2 cloves garlic
2 packets taco seasoning
About 3 cups water

After it gets done, take a fork and shred the meat. There should be just enough liquid leftover to give it a nice sauce. This is SO good. Now, I like a lot of onion, pepper and garlic in my cooking, so naturally, if that's too much for you, you should adjust those seasonings. It's wonderful either on top of a salad, or wrapped up in lettuce leaves (or tortilla shells) with sour cream, quacamole, onions, tomatoes, cheese, etc.

Enjoy!

Wooooooooooohoooooooooooooooo

I'm under my mini goal at last!!!! I'm at 244.5 as of today! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!

My next mini goal is 239! I'm so super proud of myself!! And I'm kicking some serious butt on the exercise!

Just wanted to share cause I'm really excited. My loss has been a bit slower than I'd like but I'm still getting there!

How's everyone else's week been?

That looks like a yummy roast slim! I might make that next week. Avocados are in season so that would be perfect!

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO BELLA keep up the mini goals they work. I'm definately going to be doing that, And Kay congrats on your licence. I'm sure you will do well. And celebrating your success is a great thing we have to othewise life can be pretty boring. And we know we can always get back on track the next day.

I tried this the other day for lunch was really good;

Cheddar and Apple French Toast
2 slices wholegrain bread
1/2 green apple or spy sliced
4 slices low fat cheddar or cheese of choice
1egg yolk
2egg whites
spices as you like cinnamon for traditional or dill for achange etc.
avocodo is nice in this too instead of cheese

beat eggs dip bread and layer cook as grilled cheese can serve with sugar free syrup but I liked it just as is. Had with a bowl of homemade veggie soup.

Yesterday I managed to walk 8,864 steps which was equivalent to almost 5 miles. (according to pedometer) and that was just basic walking. I did walk to bus terminal here in Barrie twice for work from my house. It takes about 1/2hr and I usually beat the bus anyway lol. And today my legs were killing me but in a nice way. My horoscope said I need to look after my health more so. This morning I woke up at 530am stretched my legs out in bed lol. Then thought what the heck I'm laying here might as well make use (I'm single sooooooooooo lol) I did 20 sit ups with knees raised ones (have a hard time with other lol) then 10 elbow to opposite knee twists (not sure what they are actually called) then i did 20 leg lifts (10 on each) not sure what these are called either lol..but on my knees belly sucked in and lift the leg up as high as you can go supposed to help shape the fanny. I didn't really have to get up til 7 so figure might as well make use of the time. And if I take it slow along with the walking and skipping doing good and graduate to more later on.

Today is going to be a bad food day I know already meeting friends and family at the lakefront have big Arts and Crafts thing going on so ya know its gonna be hamburgers or hotdogs for lunch and breakfast was McD's (burritos i love em).

Have a great weekend all
Happy GIing

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I haven't been around for a while ... the computers been 'away' ... for repairs again!

This is just a quickie to say 'Hi' as I'm sooooo busy right now trying to get our apartment sorted out to accommodate visitors who will be arriving from the UK on Friday ... I'm so exhausted!

Anyway, I'm afraid I've not been doing too well lately ... TOM and lots of stress at home ... unfortunately, I'm a stress eater and although I've tried to be good, I've failed miserably! Will try my hardest to get back on track this week though.

Well done to the rest of you ... you are all doing brilliantly ... keep up the good work and I hope to join you soon!!

Way to go on the steppin' Chiky!!! Wooowooo!

Nichola, I hope your chaos subsides soon! I understand completely the stress eating. That is the hardest thing to avoid isn't it!? Don't worry, you'll be back on track soon I'm sure!

I am doing really good! It's my TOM, which usually means huge gains due to water or to lax eating... so far I'm only up by 1/2 a pound! I've been drinking water like crazy and making sure to exercise even though I feel horrid. Persistence is slowly paying off.

I cleaned out my closet this weekend and went through everything. I found some clothes that used to be tight or not really fit, and some are loose on me now! I also put together a bunch of stuff to donate from the clothes that are too big on me. I'm saving my biggest pair of jeans though so I can remind myself where I've been. And take the cool success story pictures! LOL

I hope everyone's week is off to a good start!

Hey Nichola, have you gotten your cookbooks yet? I look forward to seeing some new recipes when life gets back to normal for you!

Thanks Leticia, for the vote of confidence ... I'm trying to be good but it's really difficult for me right now to concentrate on my eating plan ... so many other things going on at home ... excuses I know, but you know what it's like! Anyway, I'll do my best for now and hopefully will be fully on track when my visitors leave ... just hope I don't do too much damage when they're here! Still, I'll pick up the pieces and get back on track properly as soon as they have left ... I'm determined to do this!!

One of my cookbooks arrived a couple of days ago ... the Antony Worrall Thompson one ... some lovely recipes in there, but mostly the sort that you'd do for a nice dinner party rather than everyday meals, which I was a bit disappointed with. Still, when I get chance to give them a try I'll let you know. Amazon have just confirmed that the other book is now on its way to me ... hopefully that will be better.

Well, my real challenge begins next week! I'll be going back to Grad School and Teaching on Wednesday, which entails a lot more planning. On the up side though, I am hoping to join a gym this month so I'm excited about that! My weight loss seems to be a bit stalled but I've been a bit sloppy this last week so it makes sense.

Any ideas on portable lunches that aren't sandwiches? I have access to a microwave and I have an insulated lunch box cooler. I'd love suggestions!
