Jessa

I would be happy to join you. I'm doing the 8 minutes in the morning program, which is really not a program..you just have certain exercises to do in the morning when you first wake up and I've changed my portions of food... I'm taking in at the least 1500 calories per day and walking at night sometimes.

Jessa -

Sounds very close to what I am doing myself. I am doing 1400 calories a day, trying to eat healthier foods. I do yoga almost everyday (I love it) and am trying to make myself do cardio 3-4 times a week. The only thing different is that I am also trying to watch fat grams at dr.'s advice.

I admire you for doing the strength training. That is hard for me... However, you supposedly burn more calories when you build more muscle. Do you have a tape for belly dancing? If so, what is it? I'd really like to try that - I think it looks like fun!

I've lost 96 pounds the old school way. I keep lots of fruits and veggies on hand nowadays, and have become a lover of yogurt. And for the first time in my life, for over a year now, I exercise daily. I'm trying to kick in another minor loss though and have just been maintaining, so I've dropped my calories. It fluctuates, anywhere between 1,000 to 1,400 calories per day. Depending on how busy I stay...I eat less if I'm busy.

I'll join you! I just lost 18 lbs., working to maintain it thru careful (mostly vegetarian) eating and frequent exercise. I am trying to find a nice but affordable health club, since I live in Massachusetts and pretty soon it will be too cold for a lot of outdoor exercising.

Current wt: 129

Hope everyone is having a good week--

Default Me Too!

I'm also looking to do it the old fashion way. Seems as though it's the only tried and true method of long term weight loss. I always end up blowing diets that are restrictive but 1500-1600 sounds like a satisfying daily calorie amount.

If you're interested I'd love to be one of your buddies.

I'd love to check in too with you all. I've been using calorie counting and exercise to lose weight since August. I've stuck to about 1500 cals a day. I'm a teacher and was exercising a lot before school started. Now I'm finding it hard to fit in, but will try whenever possible. I'm especially interested in all the healthy lifestyle foods and activities you all do. Everytime I read something that AlmostHeaven has written I seem to do better - your advice is great!

Hi Ladies, it sounds like you all have gotten the right idea, with healthy eating and exercise. There is a great thread here that I subscribe to called "Doin' it the Old Fashioned Way" and the moderator is a belly dancer!! Come on over and join. It's at:
http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26250. It' sposted under "General Diet Plans."

Aphil, the moderator, is a seamstress and is making Halloween costumes for her family. They are going as The Addams Family. We can't wait to see the pictures! There is another poster, VermontMom, who is now a successful maintainer. She is a biker chick and uses workout videos regularly. Everyone there has some great imput. Hope to see you soon.

Thanks. Glad I can help someone. I spent enough years yo-yo-ing on diets myself and wish I'd had encouragement instead of discouragement. So I always like to tell everyone that if I can do it, anyone can. And frankly, I do tell "everyone". Why just a few weeks or so ago, I was checking out with a new top at Wal*Mart and the clerk says "This is a pretty top, I wish I could wear something like this." To which I replied "You can!" and pulled out my before and after pic.
