I want myself back!

  • The title says it all. I want myself back..not just my old weight, but also my old energy level, motivation, excitement, etc. I'm a mom to 4 who has finally decided to stop "talking" about wanting to lose weight and finally just take the actions to make it happen.

I spent the first 28 years of my life as a size 1 - 5, but have been inching my way up each year since then. I'm almost 35 yrs old and am now a size 16. I've been publicly mocked several times for my weight and feel that I am no longer treated with the same level of respect whether by strangers or even my own family members at times.

My goal is to keep my calories @ 1200 per day and to incorporate as much exercise as I can force myself to do. I walked/ran 1.5 miles today up & down a hilly area and did some hiking over the weekend for an hour. I have 50 lbs to lose, but not a specific time frame in mind. I just want to get back into shape and to become a more active participant in life again. I thought that might happen if I could just cut down on the calories and push myself to exercise during the weekdays.

I can't wait to get to know you all!
  • Hi RandomMama,

I'm new also and want to wish you well on your "getting myself back" journey!

What you wrote is true~ heavier folks are sometimes treated with less respect, sadly.

    Anyhoo, good luck!
  • Thank you Celery. I'm confident that we can do this!

It's true about the respect issue though. I've had my feelings hurt twice this year by random strangers and I just can't get over how cruel people can be with their mocking comments or how easy it is for someone to look down on another individual for a few extra pounds. I took so much for granted when I was younger and can't stand this nonsense now.
  • RandomMama,

I am also new to the forum, but I applaud your attitude. You are working hard already towards your goals, with exercise and diet. If you ever need a little moral support or a shoulder to cry on...dont hesitate to give me a yell....There are so many wonderful people here, you will have plenty of support when you need it and plenty of great advice Hugs
  • I am new here also and feel your pain of weight gain. Good luck!
