Default New here!

Hello! I'm new! I am currently a student working towards my master's in research psychology and work as a lab manager for a psychology professor.
I decided to take my health back in july when I found out I had high blood pressure. 159/100. I concluded it was due to a combination of a bad diet and b.c pills I had recently switched to. I switched to my old ones and started eating foods to lower my blood pressure and working out more. Last time I checked it was at 139/90. I cut a lot of bad things out of my life at that point such as sodas. I used to drink 3 a day and I went down to 1-2 a week. I also stopped eating out as much. I did not lose any weight. I may have lost fat and gained muscle but overall no weight.
Since around the begining of December I was determined to lose weight so I quit drinking many of my calories. I will have juice though in the morning with my breakfast, but now I drink water, tea w/o sweetener, diet green tea and sometimes add those calorie-free packets to my water. I also started to work out again and am going to run. I have already started running. I also do the Jillian Micheals dvd's, especially on cold days. I have lost 6lbs at my last weigh in.
My goal is not so much of a weight goal since I cannot determine how much muscle will weigh. I am at 159ish. I would like to get back to 140 but very toned. My all over goal is to live a healthier, active life.

Welcome! I'm new here also. Sounds like your doing a good job of getting a grip on things before they are out of hand. Good for you. Being a student is tough work and doesn't always lead to a healthy life style. Lots of time sitting and finding yourself "tired" but mentally not physically - speakingfor myself it can be hard to tell one from the other.
Good Luck! See you around. :-) Maggie
