Default Day 5

This the morning of Day 5 of my first time on IP. I'm still hungry but not so nauseous and dizzy. I caved in and stepped on my scale this morning and was 4.5 lbs lighter than the day I started. It's giving me motivation to keep going.

I discovered last nite that I could get two bowls of jello by using a package of Mango shake with Knox Gelatin Powder (1.5 gm protein per pack - 0 carbs). Would Knox Gelatin be considered a cheat? Also, I haven't heard from anyone with respect to Molly McButter seasoning (is it a cheat?). Even if so, the weight still appears to be coming off and if makes food more palatable, I will take the chance. As I sit here typing, my stomach is doing it's usual growl so it must be time for lunch (IP chicken soup with steam brocolli and cauliflower).

By the way, do most people get in the lettuce? Is it mandatory?

OMG ME TOO. I know it will work, but with a month of seeing a total of five pounds...I'm grumpy. I know I haven't been following the plan perfectly, so my Lenten resolution is to get back 100% on protocol. Dang, it's hard. But I know it's worth it. I, for one, haven't been getting all my veggies (more like one cup a day), usually only manage 2 packets, maybe three a day, and go over on protein. I also have completely forgotten my supplements, and have been slacking on the water.

SOMEBODY PLEASE give me a nice A$$ KICKING to get it in gear!

Lettuce...another thing I've been forgoing and my weight loss has stalled. Knox...it would depend on the calories and fat. 0 cal, 0 carb, and 0 fat is ok. Molly McButter has a carb in it, so it is off protocol. I've been following the "if it doesn't hurt..." rule. Well, apparently all the little things I've done added up and it does hurt. Up to you, though!

Good to know. I have been following it pretty faithfully though. I haven't eaten anything extra even though my coach said I can have have an extra IP package or more protein (since the Knox is 1.5 gm of protein and no carbs, I consider that my extra protein). Also many people have posted that they use Splenda or Stevia in Phase 1 and that has 1.5 carb per package. Would that be considered off protocol? My coach says Stevia is okay but Splenda is not.

I figured that in Phase 1 we are only eating about 800 calories a day and am a bit worried that this is too low since everything I've been told is that a person should have at least 1000 a day to maintain good health.

Please try to remember the first week you had your weigh in and you were shocked and pleased on the weight loss. Keep remembering that moment, hopefully that helps. I am not too long OP, so haven't experienced it yet I am sure I am going to. I have gone to retirement parties and had a pickle just to stay on and it makes me feel proud that I can. You give such good advise to others, remember to give yourself a pep talk.

NSV - I went shopping in my closet last night. A pair of jeans that I tried on two weeks ago and couldn't even get close to buttoning - are now very comfortable!!! Found about 6 outfits that fit very nicely!! I think DH got tired of me popping out into the livingroom last night to model my new/old clothes. I was pretty excited. I'm pretty sure that the last time I wore any of these things was close to 15 years ago after I had been on the phen-fen diet.

I got my questions answered from my coach with respect to the Knox Gelatin and Molly McButter. My coach is a naturpathic doctor who has a very good understanding of how the program works and the human body and I feel confident in his replies. Also before I started the program, he did a body analysis and complete medical history. So for those of you that are wondering here is our email conversation:

Hi Doctor,

1. Would Knox Gelatin with 1.5 gm protein 0 carbs 0 fat be considered okay to use?

2. Can I use Molly McButter once a day (1 gm carbs 0 fat 5 cals) per teaspoon?

3. I want to use Natural Cold Cuts as a protein source for dinner (1 gm fat, 13 gm protein, 0 carbs and 60 calories for 4 slices). They have 570 mg of sodium but no nitrates. If it's okay to use, how many slices can I have?

4. Is it mandatory to eat the lettuce everyday? I just don't have the stomach for it.

(Doctor's reply)

Hi, I can answer your questions:

1. The gelatine is OK if used in moderation in small amounts. If you like Jello you may use the Ideal Protein Raspberry Jello as one of your servings – it is really good.

2. Molly McButter Yes – 1 tsp

3. Natural Cold Cuts - Yes – 4-5 slices – is that enough for you? If not 6 slices

4. You may have spinach or swiss chard or any other leafy vegetable. Also there are numerous types of lettuce – Romaine, Endive, Boston, etc. Try to have something along that line.

I know others have already replied to your post, but I want to chime in... You have been a great source of inspiration for me personally. Please try to step back, focus and remember what you tell all of us. You CAN do this. You are living proof of how this diet works. You have been successful in the past. Try to go back to basics. Write things down again. Don't take things for granted. You are on the verge of even greater things. Don't let yourself down.

You are doing great! Stick with it!

Don't give up Mel!! You can do this! If you are worried about not losing give up some of the restricted packets. Maybe join us in boot camp this week. It isn't super easy but, if your body is teetering around ketosis, it might be worth it.

I loved the first time I got to do that!! Congratulations! What a wonderful way to start the week.

I am glad your doctor was able to help so quickly.

I am surprised he was comfortable with adding nearly 3000g of sodium to your day. If it were me, I wouldn't be making a habit of it out of fear I would start to retain water.

Also, did he mention if the chard or spinach were to be eaten raw or cooked. Those are both considered vegetables, not lettuce on IP protocol sheets. I know raw they are nearly 0 carbs per cup but cooked is a different story. Just curious what his take was on that.

Hi Beachbella -- sorry to be late to the game (I have been out for the weekend) I FINALLY found black soy beans at Harris Teeters (not sure if you have those in NJ) -- I was shocked they had them. Also they have several of the sugar free Torani syrups (carmel, hazelnut, vanilla, raspberry, chocolate) - also another shock they carry lots of the WF products. If you have them in your area it is definitely worth the trip. Our Whole Foods didn't have the black soybeans either and when I asked I got the...
