The Plan - Summer Edition

The Plan - Summer Edition

The plan is what you decide to do to enhance your health and help you lose weight. We've tried a bunch of them on our friendly journey as diet buddies. WW, Atkins, What would Jesus eat, Tops, Prevention Millennium diet, Body For Life, BRx.

At this time there are four regular posters, please feel welcome to join in if you'd like.

judi 05-16-2003 09:25 PM

We've tried em' all!

You can add "Xenical" to that list.

Alice, 45 grams of carb. is still a lot, they must have modified it from the original Atkins. I might give it a try, I dunno. I know the giving up of "white" stuff is on WWJ eat diet. Ledom, do you eat "white" foods?

We are having nice weather here. I had the yard done today. The rhodos are beginning to flower, I have mostly pinks and purples.

I started reading a biography about Flannery O'Conner. Anybody read any of her books?

All quiet on the western front.

ledom 05-17-2003 06:16 AM

judi,

The only white food is potatoes. I don't eat them very often but they are used on both BFL and BRx. I think sweet potatoes are considered a bit better though.

Hi "Plan" members: I haven't visited 3fatchicks in months--but having joined the LA weight loss plan two weeks ago, I was interested in seeing if there were any other LAers posting. I left a thread for other LAers to buddy up with me but have had no replys--so I read your posts and you seem pretty goal oriented and supportive. I have in the past been a life-time WW, having regained all of it and more these past 20+ years--I'm 53 and still struggling with weight control. I was getting very out-of-control and needed structure and someone to be accountable to. I like LA so far--much like WW except I get one-on-one counseling instead of a group meeting. I need that right now, and when I reach my goal and have worked through maintenance I hope to return to WW least monthly to stay accountable. That's nice about WW--you're not done and out-the-door or paying more money out if you maintain your weight loss. I'm sorry I'm getting wordy here and hope you'll welcome me to your "Plan" group.
Cher

judi 05-18-2003 09:37 AM

Welcome Cher

It will be great to have you with us. You and I sound about the same age. I will be 53 next month.

I have been on WW too (many times) I like the point counting. RIght now I am kind of bored with it. I am sort of thinking of trying something else. I know what I should be doing EXERCISING...but I loathe it all, walking, treadmilling, aerobic, etc...you name it and I hate it. THe other girls Ledom, CHeryl and Alice are all exerercisers though.

Do you have any pets?

Good morning everyone. All quiet here, just a nice spring day. No new diet news.

aleka 05-18-2003 09:56 AM

Hello there.....

We are having a gorgeous weekend. SUN! SUN! SUN!:cb:

Yesterday DH made several trips to the dump unloading a lot of stuff, because starting next week they are going to start charging a fee for certain items that they previously took for free. I told DH that since he was making so many trips that he and the dump guys must be on a first name basis by now. I never realized how much junk we had accumulated.

Cher, welcome to our little group. :high: This is a really nice group and I've made some really good friends. I'm glad that LA Weight Loss is working so well for you. I had been going to WW, but I got very tired of counting points, plus the last meeting I went to did nothing for me. I have regained some of the weight I lost, about 8 lb. and I am trying to find an eating plan that I can do. Looking forward to seeing your posts.

ledom, glad you had a good kayaking trip. I think it's so neat and a little eerie sitting on a body of water in the fog. When DH & I had our motor boat, we were driving it to the marina to take it out of the water for the season. It was a very foggy morning and it was so still the only sound you could hear was the fish jumping along the side of the boat. We were praying that there weren't any other boats out there. Thankfully there weren't.

judi, I've been wondering if I want to do a very low carb WOE. Lately eggs have been making me nausious in the mornings, but I feel much better after having cereal & fruit. I'm fine for the rest of the day without having carbs. I really think I need them in the morning. I think this Atkins is just for maintenance, but I believe you still can lose weight on it. Prevention also has a low carb WOE where I believe the most carbs you eat is 125g. Your flowers sound lovely. Our rhodos aren't out yet, possibly in a couple of weeks, which seems rather late, and our lilacs don't have buds on them yet. Usually they bloom towards the end of May.

Hi Cheryl, how are things going with you?

Have a good Sunday everyone.

yenbac 05-18-2003 02:46 PM

Thank you for the welcome. It's a beautiful day here in S. Florida too.

Judi, besides having our age in common, I hate to exercise--and no excuse with a Bowflex, treadmill, recumbant bike and umpteen Richard Simmons tapes setting in the back room. :) My husband nearly fell over yesterday when he found me on the treadmill. I'd gotten a lot of sun while boating yesterday and must have had a touch of heatstroke--desperately needed something cold and quick--he went into the quick stop and they were out of diet Coke, so got me regular. I tasted it and it was syrupy, but when I asked him, his expression was "would I get YOU regular?" but he said "I got regular." When I realized after drinking nearly all of it that it WAS regular--I felt like I'd blown a hole in my diet, which explains my sudden interest in the treadmill last night. Sometimes I really think he subconsciously undermines my efforts. I love my hubby--have a good relationship--but I could do without his ordering an ice cream sundae for lunch out when I'm eating salad. He just read this over my shoulder--of all times for him to come in! :) He just said--"they'll probably tell you to leave me." LOL He's a keeper.

Oh,yes--I have pets--TWO Jack Russell Terriers (now called Parson terriers, but since mine our both short legged and short coated they're probably still Jack Russells). :) They're a handful!

Aleka, you must have a Boston Terrier because of the picture. What pets do the rest of you enjoy? You mentioned Ledom kayaking. Though we haven't been but three times, we enjoy kayaking a lot. I've a picture of a lady kayaking on a pristine blue lake setting on my supposed to be cookbook stand in the kitchen. It's meant for inspiration--when I'm tempted in that room to eat. Had it hung by my treadmill--but it didn't get seen enough to do the job. :) My goal is to reach goal by November and reward myself with purchasing one.

So, I've heard from two WW programmers, what diet are the rest of you on and what other kinds of activities do you enjoy?

I really look forward to meeting and sharing with you. Have a great day. Cher

aleka 05-19-2003 09:34 AM

A good Monday morning to you all!

We really are having the most delightful weather. I am going on my walk after I finish this post.

I'm meeting my GF for lunch and some shopping this afternoon.

One of our neighbors stopped in, he's a part-time winter neighbor. He has bought a new car, the same as mine, and the exact same color, denim blue, which I'm not too thrilled about. :sorry: He'll be getting the car in about 3 weeks, so I told DH that should be enough time for me to pick out my new RED convertible. :s:

Cher, what part of FL are you from? My IL's rent a condo in Ft. Myers and DH & I go down for 2-3 weeks just about every winter. We love Florida. It sounds like you have a great relationship with your DH. Jack Russell Terriers are so cute! They must keep you going all the time. How old are they? Yep, that's my "baby" in my avatar. We only have her, and she is definitely a handful:lol: But, I love her just the same...she keeps me on my toes.

ledom, judi, Cheryl, hope you all had a great weekend.

Have a good day! :balloons:

ledom 05-19-2003 09:55 AM

Hey guys,

Alice, I am so happy you are finally having pretty weather. You deserve it after the winter you experienced!

Welcome Cher, good to have you on board! First off, owning a kayak is a wonderful thing. Maybe you should go ahead and get it! Mine has helped me get stronger and if I had waited to reach a certain weight? Well I guess I'd still be waiting, but then that is me. Isn't it the most wonderful activity?

Tell us about the LA weightloss plan. I haven't heard of it.

I am mid-way through BRx which bases it's diet and exercise plan on strength training. It is similar to Body For Life which I have done over the last 6 months or so. I like it a lot. It sure doesn't set the world on fire in terms of losing quickly, but
I am getting stronger and firmer and am slowly making progress on the scale as well.

OK, Brody is making me crazy right now! He is manically crawling all over me and the computer - Bea has hidden from him and he is bored! A cute thing he does - he has that distinctive Siamese meow but every now and then he makes a noise that can only be described as a bark. It is so funny.

Back to what makes a diet work that you guys were talking about at the end of the last thread. My thought on that is that it has to be something you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life because that is what it is going to take. That is why I think you should be careful about taking in really low levels of carbs. How long can you sustain that? My friend who was doing Atkins told me she was eating like 25 a day. I'd say that would be impossible to do for long. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I am finally going back in to work today to see what is up. Hope there are no surprises.

4myloves 05-19-2003 10:46 AM

Hey ladies! Thought I was gonna get washed away this week-end. Man, rain is great, but enough is enough!!!!! Our poor rice farmers are gonna have so many levees to rebuild! :(

I have my second interview in Little Rock tomorrow. This one is for three job possibilities--Wynne, Morrilton and Ozark (Arkansas). Of the three, I'd like the Wynne job--close to the parents and Stewart. At the same time, though, there's a job open in Lewisville (on the LA border) that also enthralls me.

Cher--you asked what diet we're all on.....Sheesh, I guess I'd be what you'd call a professional diet jumper!! :( If you name it, I've done it (except for surgery and anything illegal :) ) It's great to have you join in our group! There's also a LAWL thread on this forum, too, if you wanna check it out! I've never been there myself--happy here :)

Ledom, did y'all get any rain in Hot Springs? Ugh. It's gonna be SO humid when the sun finally comes out! Nothing new about that, though, I guess!

Alice, the car story. It figures....Doesn't it usually happen that way?

Judi, how's life treatin ya? Still enjoying the DH? I'm sure the answer is YES!!! I've used Xenical, too. I actually like it. I'm not sure that it actually does anything as far as weight loss, but I think it's kind of cool that it keeps all that fat from being absorbed. Plus it makes me think about what I eat!

Catch y'all later!

Cheryl

yenbac 05-19-2003 07:53 PM

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your warm welcome and look forward to your continued diet support. I've questions though:

What is Xenical?

Are Brody and Bea both Siamese? Have enjoyed two siamese before this dog stint. :) They're my fav felines.

The red convertible comment (sweet revenge?) had me chuckling, Alice. You spoke of visiting Ft. Myers 2-3 weeks each winter. Wouldn't it be great to touch base when you're down our way! That's where I go for my LA weigh-in each week, and our timeshare is in Port Charlotte just north of there.

I had checked out the LAWL thread, but somehow the group didn't seem to "fit" what I was looking for so I never posted. I'm glad to be here! Answering your question about LA (and I know nothing about BRx) it is a lot like WW but more restrictive--I miss my peanut butter and pizza and ... You journal and count your 2P, 4V, 3Fruit, 2Starches, 1 dairy, and 1 fat--plus they promote the LA Lite bars for midmorning and afternoon. Some people do without them and save the expense--but they're SOOOO good!

Well my DH is waiting to watch a video--and fixing me my glass of ice water (8 glasses a day always like every other diet)--so I'd best wish you all a good night and a great coming week.
Cher

esteban 05-20-2003 06:22 AM

ITSA ME...judi

Hi! For some reason my password etc. didn't work and I had an old email address so it looks like I will be "Esteban" from now on.
I might as well be, we have started calling the cat "Ginzu" like the knives because of his lethal and always ready toenails so he isn't using the name. You should see our collection of scratches...we can't resist tickling his fat pad on his tummy, it is the size of a brillo pad and he doesn't like anyone touching it.

I wonder if it will change my personality??? Hey, maybe "Esteban (unlike judi) loves exerecise and hates pizza??? I can dream...

I have been reading bits of the Atkin's book online at Amazon, hmmm...I wonder if I should do that. Are you going to do it Alice?

Xenical is a perscription drug (that isn't paid for by most drug companies, in Canada it is about $100.00 a month) and it traps fat and excretes about 1/3 of it. If you don't eat much fat anyway it won't make much diff. Plus, if you eat a lot of fat...hmmm, how can I put this in a ladylike and refined way...you get the "runny poops"...maybe I could have been more genteel but you know what I mean. I don't think it is worth it. I took it for a few months and didn't see any diff. except to my wallet. But like Cheryl says it is a very good way to see really how much fat you are eating and it does get rid of some of it and that can't be bad.

Good luck with your job interviews Cheryl.

What an ANNOYING neighbor BUT they say "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery", so Alice take as a compliment for your GOOD taste in motor vehicles.

Where there any suprises at work Ledom? Hope everything will be tidied up quick so you can GET ON with summer holidays. Brody sounds like a real sweetheart.

Give Laci a big kiss on the mush for me Alice:love:

ps: with my hair streaked and all...I actually do look quite a bit like that cat on the left.

aleka 05-20-2003 06:36 AM

Good morning....

It was 85 deg. here yesterday. YES!:high: Don't know how long it's going to stay, possibly today or tomorrow, then reality settles in again. SIGH!

Cher, I know Port Charlotte. My late aunt lived in Venice for many years and I visited her before and after I got married. DH & I used to frequent Charlotte Square Mall, or Charlotte Townhouse Mall, (I know it's something like that). We drove from Ft Myers to Venice this year, via Rte. 41 and stopped at that mall, as we hadn't been there in quite a few years. It seemed awfully empty from what we remembered. What a small world. It would be nice to hook up. Do you get enough to eat on the LAWL? Yes, the red convertible is my revenge, PLUS my mid-life crisis.

ledom, Brody sounds like a handful. That's when they're the most adorable, I think. We had a cat once we got at the Humane Soc. and she was a devil. She could open cabinet doors, and in the middle of the night she'd be slamming them. DH & I were tired a lot! :tired: It's funny you should mention about doing a diet for the rest of your life. I was thinking along those lines myself. That was one of the reasons I stopped WW because I just couldn't see myself counting points for the rest of my life and wondered why I thought counting carbs would be any different. I did some soul searching, and the only thing I can do for the rest of my life is to eat a balanced meal, weigh and measure my portions (which has become a habit anyway), try to move more, and not follow any one particular plan because then I become obsessed with what I can and cannot eat. Can you see yourself doing BRx for life?

Cheryl, has it stopped raining yet? I can sympathize with you about the rain. Are you still planning on your New England trip this summer? Best of luck with your job interviews.

judi, haven't heard from you in awhile. Whatcha been up to?

Have a good day.

aleka 05-20-2003 06:47 AM

Hey Estaban....

Or should I say Ginzu? I think we were posting at the same time.
My GF told me the same thing yesterday when I told her about my neighbor getting the exact same car as me. At least he is here only part time, he works up here a few days, and travels to Boston and works there a few days.

ledom 05-20-2003 07:27 AM

Morning girls,

Ha, ha, when I saw Estaban on the notification e-mail I knew something was up. Well, it fits but I will always think of you as judi.:D We should compare scratch and bite marks judi. D & and are looking like we got caught in a briar patch since Brody came to live with us.

On Atkins. I read something last night over at lean and strong that makes me think it isn't the best way to lose weight though maybe it is the quickest. One of the things I love about our little thread is that it doesn't get preachy about what one should or shouldn't do. If you are interested in this opinion I read over there though I can quote it to you.

Good question about BRx Alice. No, not BRx per se, but I do think a similar switching around. I like the finite time frame that both BRx and BFL give and I think after the 6 mo. of BRx I might do BFL again. I like strength training and I can see myself doing this for a long time, there are a lot of approaches to eating to support weight training so I think there will be some variety of diets to follow within this general framework. I have been thinking more about yoga here lately. I have an advanced yoga video - Power Yoga - it is called, that I took out this week and watched. It is so beyond me now but I can imagine trying, at some point, taking a break from lifting and doing yoga. And oh, on that training for a 5k plan? Well, I have already decided not to do it. This time of year I get more time to hike and kayak and I'd rather do those activities 2 or 3 times a week instead. And just one more thing about why I think I'll be able to stick to this WOE, I eat a lot of food. I am never hungry, and I can hardly believe it but I have stopped having cravings for weekly pizza. That has taken about 6 months to develop.

Ah Alice, work :?: I didn't do anything except clear my desk. The disaster repair people are still there. They have all my stuff stacked up neatly in boxes and the area cleared to do repairs. It just didn't seem like the right time to pull things out and go through them. My boss told me she would talk to the muckety mucks and find out when exactly they need my list of losses. It just seems like something I should wait on for a while. Not a problem now that I have had a week off to recover from the trauma of it all. I can see myself dealing with in in July sometime.

One more fun thing. D tried out for and got a part in a play that the local theatre is producing this summer. It is "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", have you all seen it? I haven't, but I know this will be a lot of fun for her. She got a chorus part as a courtasand.

esteban 05-20-2003 02:43 PM

"on the way to the forum"

Ledom, there is an older movie of that. Good for your D. In my youth I was involved in theatre. Lots of fun (and passion I might add...in MANY ways;)

Yes, I dunno what I am going to do diet wise...I still do have our goal in my mind but haven't made any progress though there is still 6 1/2 months to go.

85 degrees:cool: Good for you Alice!

Ledom, I too have gotten over pizza cravings...it took about the same amount of time. I could have eaten it three times a day before. THe couple of times I have had pizza, I have had a food hangover...all the fat in the cheese.

I am off of wine again, I always want to eat sweets after wine. I am trying ciders and the rare time beer and it doesn't have the same effect. Though I do miss the wine, especially with nice food...beer and ciders go better with pub type food.

DH has gone of the island and I am having a day by myself. The dog has gone in to get his hair done. It is almost noon here and I am listening to Gregorian Chant and still walking around in my bathrobe:s:

-judi

4myloves 05-20-2003 05:52 PM

Judi--your reply citing the name change had me ROFLOL :):):) :D

Thanks for the well wishes everyone on the job interview!!! I think it went well, we'll see, I guess!

Alice, yeppers, still headed up your way! Trip is the last week in July.

Ledom--hope you're doin' OK!

Hey Cher (typed Cheryl and had to erase the "yl"--hee hee)!!!

Cheryl

ledom 05-20-2003 06:18 PM

Hey Cheryl, I am glad your interview went well. I meant to wish you good luck but don't think I ever got it down in type. Keep us posted.

Cher - hope you are having a good day.

yenbac 05-20-2003 08:09 PM

Well, I weighed in at 1.8 lbs. lighter this afternoon at LAWL . I'm rounding it to 2. :) It really does allow plenty to eat--too much so that I'm never craving. . . of course the LA Lites help. The choc-peanut butter ones remind me of Reesie Cups--almost. Least they help me go without peanut butter, which I love on toast, celery--you name it. I'll get the peanut butter back as I return to maintenance, like 28 weeks from now. :)

I do recall hearing about a drug like Xenical--they said if you cheated on the diet, you'd pay--as you described. Sounds like a good negative reinforcer!

Ledom, coming late to this thread--whatever happened at your work place? Curiosity has the best of me. Whatever it was--doesn't sound "fun" at all.

Cher

yenbac 05-20-2003 08:17 PM

Cheryl--I'm a Cheryl to, but seeing there was already a Cheryl at this thread, I thought I'd better use my family's familiar "Cher".
I have an older brother, Charles, and since Cheryl is supposed to be the feminine form of Charles, I think it'd be more appropriately spelled Charyl, pronouncing it like the char in Charles. I think too much. :) Cher seemed nicer than using Cheryl A or Cheryl 2!

Have a great day tomorrow everyone.
Cher

ledom 05-20-2003 08:17 PM

Cher,

I teach photography at a university and on the last day of work - the day I went in to enter my grades - I found that my classroom/photo lab had been flooded with 31" of water from a flashflood. The building is next to a creek. Not a good way to start summer break knowing that I will be working on getting my room put back together at some point in the unknown future. Se la vie - at least I'll get rid of a bunch of clutter that I never could quite bring myself to let go of in the past.

esteban 05-21-2003 12:09 PM

Good morning!

Sorry to hear about the flooded room:( Ledom, that is terrible! Hopefully summer will start for you soon (freedom from work< I mean).

Morning Cheryl and Cher;) How is it goin' Alice?

I think I am going to try "abstaining", just eat my 3 meals and only that, keeping within my points...I got on scale and I am up 4 pounds:o If I want something I will make myself have it at meal time. Food is just TOO BIG a thing in my head...I watch my DH and he never thinks about it unless he is really hungry and even then if I don't feed him he doesn't eat, no big deal. It is not that he doesn't enjoy it, he is a fussy eater it is just NO BIG DEAL! I am so tired of it consuming my thought life, time, etc. I want it to be a part of life not ALL of it.

I am going to Vancouver today, going to mass and going to get my nails done and maybe do some window shopping.

Have a great day everyone!

-judi

aleka 05-21-2003 05:35 PM

The rainy weather has started again. :( We did see a peek of the sun late this afternoon, but it's supposed to be miserable at least until Mon., and I heard on one weather forecast, until the first of June. :censored:

judi, I think because women diet so much that we become obsessed with food. Good luck with your new plan. Marley must look very handsome in his new "do". Give him and Esteban a big smooch for me. Did you enjoy the day for yourself? Sometimes that is a nice break. Hope you had a good window shopping day and decided to buy something wonderful for yourself. You haven't mentioned Bentley lately and was wondering if he still is a little:devil:

Cher, congratulations on your weight loss!:cp:

ledom, have you gone back to your classroom at all yet? Well, you will have all summer to get your room all back together. I did see A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, a movie with Zero Mostel, which was a hoot. I also saw it as a play, in a community playhouse and thoroughly enjoyed it. A guy I worked with was an aspiring actor, who played the young man in the play.

Cheryl, I'm glad that your interview went well. Hope you get the job.

I have forgotten to tell you. Do you remember my post a few months back re: the TV series they were filming in my area? Well, CBS did pick it up and it is on their fall schedule. Hopefully when the fall season arrives...not too soon, I hope....I'll remind you to watch it or tape it. Now we'll see if it makes it or not.

Take care and have a good night everyone.

4myloves 05-22-2003 10:58 AM

Hey, chicks!

Hope everyone is doing well! We got windowsXP at work and I'm trying to scope out the differences (good and bad). So far, I can't really tell that it's that much different from any other Windows program I've used. I'm sure I'll find things I like (or don't like) about it as I go!

No news on the weight front!!

Cher--Cheryl, for some reason, just seems to be a tough name for some folks--I get called everything from Cherry to Sherry, sometimes I get called Cheryl with a hard CH (like the Charles reference you were making earlier:) ) And the spelling--Sherrille, Cherly, Sheryl, etc. Sigh.....Is it really that hard? Anyway, I have several nicknames--the main two being Earl and Chertl (like turtle).

Thanks to all y'all for the good luck wishes on my interview. I should be finding something out at least by mid-June. You can never tell w/government jobs though!!

Later,

Cheryl

esteban 05-22-2003 11:14 AM

Alice, Marley looks pretty much the same but he SMELLS a whole lot better. He and the cat have started sleeping together on the bed, they have sort of a love hate relationship. Bentley is still a little  He gets all excited and licks the phone my D says when I call and talk to him.

I actually didn't buy anything yesterday, shock...I know. I was too tired and just wanted to come home.

Morning Cher, Cheryl and Ledom!

ledom 05-23-2003 10:44 AM

Hey guys, not much new here. I am a bit frustrated w/ my diet here lately. Not losing, gaining a bit even. But I am sticking it out. We have been having gorgeous weather. Upper 70's w/ low humidity - oh if only it would last!

I've be kayaking the last 2 days. Gotta take advantage while it's nice. I am working in my yard today.

aleka 05-23-2003 01:19 PM

We managed to get a pretty decent day yesterday, but it's sort of the pits now, and it seems as though it may last into Tues. They haven't gotten beyond Tues. yet, but I hate to see what it's going to do. Ontop of everything else, my TOXIC friend called yesterday and she's arriving somtime today for the summer. It wouldn't be bad but she expects moi to keep her entertained. She's on vacation....I'm not! Sorry for venting. :o

ledom, sorry about the weight gain. I'm sure it's temporary. How is the pant-o-meter? That's good you are sticking with it. I got on the scales this morning and I've gained 2 lb. (the 2 I lost previously). So...the no diet approach did not work. I have to start rethinking things a bit I think. Glad you are having great kayaking weather. Will you be going this weekend?

judi, Marley & Esteban must look soooo cute sleeping together.

Good afternoon, Cher & Cheryl

Have a good weekend everyone.

4myloves 05-23-2003 03:53 PM

Ledom, aren't you still in Cycle 2? Muscle, girlfriend, muscle!! Stick in there--I'm very proud of you! Did you ask the folks over at LWL if this is something that can be expected?

Alice, I know that friend.....Sigh.....You'll be OK. I'll send you non-toxic vibes to counteract. ;)

Ahhhh, Judi, the willpower. Isn't it nice to be able to come out of the mall (or any other store, for that matter) with your $$ still intact? For awhile I thought I was gonna have to buy stock in Dillard's (an Arkansas-based store comp. to, I guess maybe Nordstrom's?)!!

Hey Cher! What's up with ya?

Have a good week-end! I get a three-dayer!! Whoo-hoo!!

Cheryl

yenbac 05-23-2003 08:55 PM

Hi there! I can't believe I've not been on my computer in several days. Came home to find my hubby working on the outlet for our DSL in the foyer he's remodeling. Learned that I won't have access to the internet until he gets another cable--so I'm online at his computer. I'll probably be back on my own tomorrow because he's having withdrawals while I've taken up his station. :)

Ledom, the flood sounds like quite a catastrophe! I also am off for 6 summer weeks and would hate having to go back on campus before I have to. It goes so fast as is, probably because I put everything off until then--and then still don't get to it, ha!

What is everyone's plans for Memorial day? and what are your plans for staying on target weightwise? I think we're going to a county park where my DH can skate while I walk "Ditto" our youngest JR. I'm not taking both--though we have a Y leash tether that gets a lot of looks from passer-bys. Zoey is so alpha with him, that he needs some individual attention and freedom from her oppression. :)

Dietwise--We're grilling hamburgers and I'll weigh and tally the protein and bread. Taking fruit for dessert. Sounds exciting, I know.

Aleka, It's nice we can safely vent here. Isn't toxic-friend an oxymoran? I know there's a story there! I'll pray for your surviving the ordeal with flying colors.

Have a great weekend everyone. Cher

itsa me...Judi!

Goodmorning everyone!

Well, I made a diet decision...I ordered Michael Thurmond's body makeover...I plan to DO IT for 6 weeks and see what happens. I don't know if it was inspiration that I ordered it or if I fell for a good sales pitch on tv but now that it is coming I will do it because I need a jump start at something. Plus, I like lots of paper, charts, binders etc. just the kind of thing to get me organized. Although when I did phone I got a real sales pitch to order a bunch of cr$p that I didn't want and when I didn't want to listen the telemarkerter got kind of persnikity...which was ANNOYING to say the least.

DSL will be nice to have Cher. Sounds like you have a wonderful memorial weekend planned, enjoy!

You enjoy your long weekend too Cheryl. I have an aunt in Tacoma that practically lives in Nordstrom's. We have the "Bay" (the Hudson's Bay store) that is sort of like a Nordstroms. I mentioned a few threads back that they have rack designer stuff that is the same stlye as the reg. size clothes only in plus sizes...Yahoo! It is really possible to drop a bundle there but the things are so nice.

Alice, cut that toxic friend loose, she doesn't deserve you:mad: But she probably doesn't realize how awful she is and she probably does look forward to spending time with you. I know myself I should be MORE patient with people like that but the first sign of chronic toxicness its "Ah, ba-bye!! Have a nice life! ...without me in it"

Ledom, good for you for hanging in there:high: You WILL see results scale wise or body shape wise or BOTH! I am hoping MT thing will get me going towards our goal. I need a fresh start at something. Are you at home now for summer or do you still have to pop into the university for flood damage control?

Enjoy your long weekend, ours was last weekend but since the DH is home now we sort of lost track of it.

ledom 05-25-2003 10:24 AM

Hey Guys,

Alice, I can tell by our cyber friendship that you are just the sweetest thing. I am afraid I think judi is right about the toxic friend though. Protect yourself sweetie!

Cheryl, thanks for your words of encouragement. I am really needing them these days. I just finished week two of cycle two and I am just suffering through. I have been so discouraged and close to quitting. But I already have an 8 week investment in this and according to the plan I am just 4 weeks away from the big payoff. So.....I am working through it. I may eat my words, but I think when I finish BRx it will be back to BFL for me. I think BRx is for people with less weight to lose than me.

Cher, what fun to remodel. It's always fun to have things spruced up. My D is in the process of redoing her bathroom. I have just had to let her go with her vision which is based on this very tacky "Moulin Rougiesh" lamp she found. She is painting the room bright pink stripes with gold streaked wood work. Then she has plans for a swag in front of the tub, matching curtains and some tacky French Provincial accessories attached to the wall and gold light switch covers. It's her fantasy bordello thing going on. I am just pleased she has a vision and the energy to be creative. I just wonder how long it will take her to get tired of it. Ah, to be young again.

Yesterday I went for a really long kayak tour. Maybe about 12 miles, I haven't figured it up yet. I left around 7 and got back at 1:30. I was so tired by the time I returned. This coming weekend I have plans to lead a few people that post on the same kayaking club board on an overnighter. We'll camp on an island. This is so out of character for me, but I think it is probably a good thing. I'll let you know how it turns out.

judi, you can do anything for 6 weeks. Let us know what this plan is. I am not familiar with it.

aleka 05-25-2003 12:17 PM

Sunday!

We have seen a few summer people around. But, I think the weather has kept a lot of people away. We heard this morning that it's to be like this at least until Thurs.:(

ledom, how nice of you to say that I was sweet. DH doesn't think so at times.;) Are you still in cycle 2 of BRx? If you are, see what cycle 3 brings when you start that. Your camping/kayaking trip sounds wonderful. Have a great time.

judi, I've seen Michael Thurman on Home Shopping Network (HSN)a few times. Each time I've been tempted to order his diet program, but never do. Let us know all about it when you get it. How long did they say until you receive it? Ya, the telemarketers can be a real pain in the a$$ Yes, my friend does like to spend time with me. I'm the only one of her friends that is still talking to her!:^: Since DH works out of the house, we lose track of days too.

Cher, hope you all have fun at the park. We had 2 Boston Terriers about 30 yrs. ago. I also walked them with a "Y" leash. One of the Bostons was hyper while the other one just plodded along, and her collar was always up around her ears!:D We'll be grilling hamburgers too, but inside on our GF grille. I bought some whole-wheat hamburger rolls at a health food type grocery store.

Cheryl, hope you're having a good weekend. I've been to Dillards in FL. It's a great store.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

esteban 05-26-2003 12:58 PM

Goodmorning!

Alice, MT sound's like he has been around for awhile. I read some of the old posts on him. I am looking forward to it coming, it should be here in a week. Like Ledom, says you can do anything for 6 weeks, I am going to totally commit to it for 6 weeks.

My FIL is here with his poodle, my DH came over with Bentley yesterday so with 3 dogs running around the house the cat had a bad day. Bentley is coming 3 now and he is getting so bossy (and fat). Marley was trying to control every one of the other animals but it was too much for him so he was kind of whining all day...kind of an object lesson in the results of trying to control everyone. My FIL is here for a few days.

Enjoy your Monday off everyone!

aleka 05-27-2003 06:20 AM

Good morning....

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

judi, poor esteban being in the only kitty among all those dogs! How is Bentley doing with his allergy? Lacee will be 3 in Dec. She's not getting fat (only her mother is) but, she is getting snippy with other dogs, and she does not care how big they are. ;) She does not play well with others. Enjoy your time with your FIL.

Hey ledom, Cheryl, Cher

Have a great day.

4myloves 05-27-2003 09:22 AM

It's Tuesday!!!!!

Isn't it nice just to be able to "skip over" Monday? I only have to work three days this week--Friday is my regular day off.

Since yesterday was a holiday, I brought my niece home w/me to help me clean my house. The girl is 13, and man did she inherit the "clean gene!!" I think it must've skipped over my generation! My house is lovely now. Unfortunately, my asthma (which I think is totally weight-related) is not lovely. Ugh.

I hope y'all are all doin' okay!!

Cheryl

ledom 05-28-2003 09:55 AM

Hey everyone,

Cheryl, enjoy your abbreviated work week.

Yesterday I decided to go to work and brave the inevitable of making my damages list for the insurance company. I stayed really focused and got it done by early afternoon and now I no longer have that hanging over me which feels great. I also did something for myself, I decided to take a free day from my diet. I enjoyed it very much. I didn't pig out at all, ate what I wanted, I don't think I ate as much as I normally do on the diet - I did feel really hungry though. It was good for my mental health, it showed me that I LIKE eating a lot of clean food and I like the way it makes me feel. I am ready to hit the ground running with the diet again this a.m. While I have had some free foods all along it has been 2 months since I had a free day.

On that note, I'll be going on vacation June 11-16 and I won't be able to keep to the strictness of BRx. It'll be interesting to see how I handle it. I am just going to not worry. I think if I do every other week in this 6 months like I am supposed to that I don't have to get frantic over this.

Car is in the shop today and I found out that I have to replace the cooling/heating system in my upstairs here at home. Ye gods, it seems that I have had so many unexpected expenses this spring. I had to replace my camera about a month ago. Well, I definitely want to be cool this summer and the old unit is at least 40 years old so I won't complain.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Oh yeah, D's b/room has turned out so cute. Shoulda had more faith in this child that is addicted the TV show "Trading Spaces", she has done a fine job of it. Tomorrow we are going to Bed Bath & Beyond to look at curtains, etc. to accessorize with. I am also going to be looking for a new swimsuit:^: .

yenbac 05-28-2003 07:35 PM

Hi everyone! I seem to be getting to the computer about every three days lately--I don't what the problem is these days! But when I do get online, I look forward to reading and catching up on your doings.

Ledom, I'm glad your daughter's room came out lovely--sounded like an impressive undertaking, though admittedly not "our" style. :) I'm always impressed with those like your D with decorating skill--my walls are mostly white (easy to freshen with paint) with mini-blinds everywhere! DH is the artistic one--but he goes for simple, clean lines. . . gone my country accenting.

Alice, funny how walking the dogs on the Y shows which is the alpha real quick. Our oldest (female) keeps the little male in line when he's too enthusiastic.

Cheryl, I envy you AND my DH the three days this week to work. . . especially when he calls Thursdays his Fridays.

Judi--you'll have to keep us posted on your Michael Thurmond program. LA is very structured too--which suits me just now. I weighed in yesterday for another 2 1/2 lbs. lost. Counselor questioned my having had 3 of McD's new grilled chicken Cobb Salads because they have bleu cheese--but all I can say, it didn't hurt me. :smug: I know some people quit the LA bars mid-morning and afternoon--but I don't foresee myself doing that anytime soon--my crutch--like a legal candybar! Good luck with your program. I must go look up the BEx (?) everyone's talking about on this thread--new to me.

Had a great leisurely morning at the park--DH inline skated, I walked Ditto (only took one this trip), and read. Was definitely a respite. Hope you all had a great holiday too.
Till later, Cher

aleka 05-29-2003 07:01 AM

Good morning....

Nothing new here dietwise, weatherwise, or otherwise. Yesterday my GF drove up to my house for our weekly luncheon and shopping. One of our seasonal restaurants that has fantastic seafood opened up over the holiday weekend, which we both enjoy.

ledom, your D's bedroom sounds lovely. Sometimes your children can surprise you! Did you find any curtains? You must feel relieved to have that list for the insurance co. over and done with. Now you can get on enjoying yourself over your summer break. We all have to take some free time from dieting. I'm glad you enjoyed your's and that you were ready to start your diet the next day.:cp:

Cher, congratulations on your weight loss. :bravo: I love those new salads at McDonald's. I've had the Cobb Salad and the Caesar Salad. I hope they will keep these around.

Cheryl, a three day work week....GOOD FOR YOU!!! Enjoy it to the fullest.

judi, hope you're having a good visit with your FIL. You'll have to fill us in on any cute animal antics.

Have a good day everyone.

ledom 05-29-2003 10:47 AM

Just a quick check in to say howdy. How's your company doing Judi. Alice, lunch w/ your girlfriend sounds fun. Last week my work buddy came over for lunch. Afterwards we went to the lake, poked around in a couple of stores. It was so nice to really get to visit instead of doing lunch in 45 min. and then rushing back to work. Cher, are you a teacher too? Something in an earlier post made me think you worked at a university. Cheryl, bet you're enjoying this nice break we're having in the weather. I sure am, specially since the air conditioner is on the fritz. Tomorrow evening I am headed out on my camping adventure with 5 total strangers. We all met via the web - boy isn't the world changing? Also, I may have gotten myself into another overwhelming situation. I offered to help w/ costumes for the play D is in. Well, there is no one to help - they don't have anyone at all. Things moved very quickly and so maybe I am in charge. And I have no experience at this. My bud from school happens to be the costume design instructor and he so generously offered to come to the production meeting w/ me tonight. Costumes will all be rented/ we'll just have to see how this all pans out.
So, the beat goes on. Have a great day folks.
