Thanks for your response Alice. It really does help.

Sunday

Sorry to hear about your nasty experience Ledom. Those kind of things are so upsetting.:( I would just let it go and act let it didn't happen. When the thought of it comes to your mind, refuse to think about it and don't let it torment you. Put away any thought of it because if you think on it it will get bigger in your mind than it was. Unless YOU feel you have done something wrong don't apologize because they sound like they were inconsiderate (er, jerks) anyway. Just be your charming self:strong:

I am listening to the Dr. Phil tapes of his book. They are good. His approach takes the panic of losing weight and makes it seem hopeful. THe first main idea is that one has to give up the idea of a quick fix, which for me really takes the pressure off.

On Fit Day I figured out that if I have less than 2811 calories I can lose 49 lbs in 49 weeks. 2811 is a lot of calories, especially if you are eating healthy food. I am doing South Beach again. It and MT are the best for me because they are low carb. It is easier to do a vegetarian diet on South Beach than Mt.

I miss the DH and the cat. But, boy, is the house clean! And the washing and ironing is all done. Just my garden is such a mess and it needs to be put away for fall.

Enjoy your Sunday everyone! Special HUG for Ledom:grouphug:

aleka 09-21-2003 10:19 AM

Good morning,

ledom, just popping in to see if you are feeling better about things today. One good thing is that you don't have to see these two teachers socially. That is how I usually overcome my feelings for people whose personality and mine aren't even close. Hope you are feeling better about things today. Congragulations to your D for landing the role of Babe. She must be thrilled.

judi, I have started reading Dr. Phil's book. One thing that hit me right between the eyes is when he mentioned about people always saying they "have to lose weight". You don't have to lose weight, you can chose to lose weight. I say I have to lose weight all the time! I am joining in on the book discussion they have on this website. I haven't gotten too far into the book yet, just the pages they will be discussing starting tomorrow. Good luck to you on SB diet. I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do. It's between counting points..yet again, or SB Diet Phase 2.

I'm off to have lunch with a cousin who lives not too far from me. We occasionally meet, and want to get together before winter sets in.

Have a wonderful day.

ledom 09-21-2003 11:03 AM

You girls are the best. Thanks for your advice and especially your support. I am feeling better. I have decided not to react anymore. I'll just be prepared to do my part and hopefully by the end of the semester I'll be able to leave them without having a lot of hostility. Somehow I got transported back to all those icky Jr. High feelings.

Another really happy thing happened this week. The scale did one of those big drops. I was down 3.25 lbs. yesterday. This morning I was still at that drop so it wasn't just a fluke! Seeing that has really got me motivated to keep it up.

I think fitday is a great tool. Some of the ladies over at LWL talk about how they experiment w/ dif. carb and protein percentages and how they learn what their body responds to. It is never really clear to me what is working but I feel that if I keep plugging away someday it will be clear.

I'm thinking in terms of being under 200 again judi. I have been inspired by my trip to see Lucinda. Instead of a diamond for a reward I might want a pair of really cool cowboy boots. Wouldn't that me a hoot? Well, they'd be cheaper anyway.

Once again thanks for the hugs girls. And the advice. I'll get over it.

judi 09-22-2003 01:31 PM

Red cowboy boots!

Ledom, I vote for red cowboy boots!

Under 200, I don't think I can make it by 2004...well, maybe, I am going to really try. As long as I stay away from carbs and don't fan those sugar craving flames. I started using STEVIA, it is a natural fiber for sugar.

Ledom, good for you on your weight loss:cool:

Alice, what DR. Phil said really struck me too...the same thing just jumped off the tape when I heard it. I am going to listen to the tape set first then sit down and do the exerercises.

I really like "fitday", I print out the menus and then put on them my next day weight. It also is a real wake up to see how many carbs and fat grams I do eat, especially on an off day.

Yes, congratulations to your D. Ledom, for getting the role of Babe. That is a cute character too. She will probably have so much fun playing her. I liked the movie a lot.

Today is a wonderful day. I am going for a walk on the trails. The rain has really helped the fires in the interior a lot. A lot of the trails in the lower mainland were closed for fear of fire but things are OK now.

aleka 09-22-2003 02:21 PM

I vote for red cowboy(girl) boots too!!

Had to take Lacee to the Vet this morning. Saturday she wasn't feeling very well..which had us rather concerned. She was back to her old self Sun. morning except for a rather delicate problem. The verdict is some sort of intestinal problem. She has to have boiled chicken & rice for a while..she's going to enjoy that! Plus we have some antibiotics to give her...which should prove interesting. Hopefully she'll take it if I put it in a piece of meat. She growled and barked at all the bigger dogs in the waiting room at the Vets...that's my girl! ;)

ledom, congratulations on your weight loss.:cp: You will make under 200 very soon.

judi, how was your walk? I just finished the chapter on the first key. I took the quiz and as I read on it was though he was speaking directly to me. I kept shaking my head, and thinking, "THAT'S ME" Hopefully this is just the insight I need.

Have a great afternoon

judi 09-23-2003 10:52 AM

Poor Lacee!

I hope she will be herself again soon...maybe she found something not that good for dogs on the floor or outside and ate it. I know Bentley eats ear plugs...pink & yellow ones are his favourites.

My walk was good, I had the best nap after it, I was dreaming of fields of fall flowers:flow1:

Fit day is down.:?: I hate to become dependent on a site and then be without it for any length of time.

Dr. Phil on the wait loss thing is good, isn't he? I like his either "you get it or you don't" approach.

I am doing South Beach phase 1 with the addition of fruit.

I have been satisying my desire for bread by baking it and putting it in the freezer. DH will be happy when he comes home about that, he loves homemade bread.

aleka 09-24-2003 06:45 AM

Good morning....

Have Dr. appt. later this morning. When I saw her 3 weeks ago she put me on Allegra and she wants to see how it has worked. I have mixed feelings about the Allegra. After the appt. I'm meeting a friend for our weekly lunch date.

Lacee is doing fine. She loves her chicken & rice. She's running around like she normally does so from that I would say she's better. We have enough antibiotics to last us into sometime next week.

Didn't read any of Dr. Phil's book yesterday, my eyes were bothering me. But, I was watching his show with his weight loss participants. It was gut wrenching to hear them talking to Dr. Phil one-on-one.

judi, are you and Marley enjoying your alone time with DH & Esteban away? How is the SB diet coming along?

ledom, how is your week going so far?

Have a great day.

ledom 09-24-2003 07:26 AM

Morning Alice, Judi, Cheryl- Good, my week is going good. I had a nice day yesterday. It started w/ putting on and deciding I could wear some pants that haven't fit for the last couple of years. That was a real boost. Then I put my hair up in a french twist and it looked so cute. Anyway I left the house feeling good about myself and it seemed to reflect back to me once I got out in the world. One of the guys in my department who has also been on a diet and exercise program quizzed me about my weight lifting and complimented me. On that front all felt really good.

My fiaso w/ the team of teachers has me in knots still. I will see them again on Th. and until then I think I'll be nervous. We did have one e-mail communication. I think I forgot I was supposed to pretend nothing ever happened, I responded w/ what felt like a thoughtful message but on further reflection I probably once again gave away too much of myself, now I wish I had just ignored it. It is still upsetting me but I will get through it.

D came home last night and I really enjoyed having her here. I got my wish though, she is having so much fun at school that I don't think she is planning to be home a lot in the near future. Which is as it should be, her Freshman year was full of doubt and holding back but I think that is all behind her now.

Well on the cowgirl boots - you guys are even more daring than me. I was thinking a nice tan suede?

judi 09-24-2003 11:14 AM

Goodmorning!

I am glad to hear Lacee is her own perky self. That is a relief.

I miss the DH and the cat a lot and am starting to get bored with myself. Dh thinks he will be home next Monday or Tuesday. He puts the cat on the phone to me but when I started talking he says the cat's eyes get big, then he looks irritated and then walks away...cats aren't much for the telephone. Whereas Bentley comes running as soon as he hears my voice, gets a toy and wiggles like crazy my D says.

I have been the same weight for 3 days :(

WEIGH!!! to GO on getting into the pants Ledom!

Don't think to much about THOSE people, Thurs. will probably go better than you think and it is probably all forgetten, selfish people are always absorbed thinking about themselves anyway and I bet those two fit in that category.

Hmmm...suede in tan is much more tasteful.

I miss my priest that has gone on to be with the Lord, my other favourite one is doing a retreat somewhere and I am left with the other "also rans" and my DH is away with the CAT and I'm feeling lonely.:( But on the up side I am very happy with the SB thing.

I guess that is good that your D is doing her thing Ledom. I know, I thought I would be spending more time with my D now that she is pg. but she is still busy with school and doing her own thing. It is a good thing, they need to in their own space and on with their own lives...it is just hard with one kid. Maybe it is time to get a Boston or another cat:s: :s: ...course the two I have now won't care for that!

Hope your Allegra works for you Alice. I didn't listen to Phil yesterday either, I have to "absorb" what I already heard. (I saturate easily;) )

ledom 09-24-2003 12:36 PM

Hey judi - I've been thinking maybe I need a BOYFRIEND!!!!

4myloves 09-24-2003 05:29 PM

Ledom--skip the boys--go straight for the SUGAR DADDY!!

ledom 09-24-2003 06:14 PM

Gotcha!!!!

aleka 09-25-2003 07:05 AM

I came home from my Dr. appt. armed with more Allegra and Allegra D. She thinks it is working. I just have to call her to let her know how I'm doing.

ledom, a SUGAR DADDY sounds just right. Go for it! Congratulations on the pant-o-meter :high: I wouldn't worry about how things will go today with those insensitive and immature teachers. They may be wondering how today will go too. Hope things will go smoothly for you.

judi, don't worry about staying the same weight for a few days. Stay off the scale for a few days and you may be surprised to have lost a few pounds. One low carb diet I was on, the grapefruit fiasco...said that for the first 5 days you will not see any weight loss, but on the 5th day you will see a loss of 5 lbs. So hang in there. Glad that you like the SB Diet. Sorry you miss your priest that passed away and your other favorite priest is away. When will he be back? Speaking of Boston Terriors, I saw the cutest BT puppy at the pet store last week. It was sound asleep in the window and it looked soooo adorable. I called DH as I was leaving the mall, told him about the puppy, and he said that he hoped that it was still in the pet store window. I wouldn't do that to Lacee. She's the :queen: of the house and wouldn't want to dethrone her.

Hi Cheryl, how is the packing coming along?

Have a good day.

ledom 09-25-2003 08:25 AM

Yes, judi. Sorry you are missing your priest and DH and Estaban. They'll be back next week and you'll be in the thick of it again. I am finally reading the Carol Shields book - I think it's called Nearly? Anyway, I'm not far into it yet.

After my big drop last week, my scale is stuck this week. But, yesterday for the second day in a row I have pulled out an outfit that was too small when school started and wore it. It feels like such a nice place. I just want to push on, not stop here because even though it feels very good, more lbs. lost will feel even better.

I haven't done my strength training this week. I have been working really hard and it was what I sacrificed, but after today I am getting back to it. It is really the MOST important thing to me.

I have invited two of my girlfriends over tomorrow night for a girl's night. It'll be just the thing to blow off some steam from the past week. I am having lunch w/ a good friend today and I'm sure he'll bolster my fortitude for tonight as well. Yeah, I'll just be glad to get through tonight.

You know, men are too scary. Boyfriends and and sugar daddies are too scary to think about on anything more than a joking level. I'm not ready! I may never be ready and besides, a good kayaking buddy sounds better.

ledom 09-26-2003 09:31 AM

Hey friends, just wanted to let you know how my team teaching went last night. We all rose to the occasion and I think the dispute is behind us. They were very nice to me and we ironed out the situation that was such a huge stumbling block with a compromise that seemed to suit everyone. We were all a little tender and very considerate with each other. So, I guess in this case the conflict was worth it because I think we all learned something about how to get along together and I think that we all want to do what it takes to make this successful so that is very encouraging to me.

Ch-ching, dropped another 2 lbs. this a.m. to boot. You know what it has boiled down to? Less calories per day. I had got to the point where I couldn't lose doing straight BFL. The thing is, I am not starving myself by any means and I do think my stomach has shrunk so that I don't need or crave as much food. It just took a while to get here.

aleka 09-26-2003 11:26 AM

It's Friday!!

ledom, way to go on the weight loss!:cp: I am happy for you that things have ironed out with those two teachers. It will make your time with them this semester more pleasurable. How did your lunch go with your friend? Have a great time tonight with the girls.

Hey judi, have you listened anymore of Dr. Phil? I didn't do any reading yesterday, as planned.

Have a great weekend.

judi 09-27-2003 04:39 PM

Sat.

Hi! Sorry I took so long...

I am feeling MUCH better, the priest is back(the one that was on retreat...not the one that went to heaven...don't want anyone to get "sceert", so I should clarify that) and DH and the cat will be here tomorrow and I am having my house cleaned Monday and I have finally caught up to all my laundry:D

Ledom, a boyfriend might be nice...with nice biceps to match yours and a kayak of course:smug:

Congratulations on the weight loss...you are just smoking along:cool: I am STILL the same and I even walked this week plus I have good on eating ok...not perfect...but good! Alice, I hope I will get a nice weight loss shock like that!:D

No I got bogged down with Dr. Phil...it was very good but he is just so "Dr. Phil".

I love Carol Shield's, she is my favourite Canadian author. Do any of you read Flannery O'Conner?

I am glad everything worked out with "those" people.

Canadian thanksgiving is next month...we are invited to "hopefully what will be in laws". It will be the first time we meet them. I am looking forward to it...my D. has already given me stringent instructions on how to act, what to wear, what to say, what not to say etc. I hope the other mom got instructions too, probably not..just this seemingly bozo mom:joker:

I bet the Boston puppy was SOOO cute. You seem to have a lot more Boston's in the east then we do out here. Boston's are very rare and you could never find one in a pet store ...ever!

The weather here is sublime...just like the nicest summer day.

aleka 09-30-2003 07:21 AM

BRRRRR, it's getting cold....

Yesterday was DH's birthday and we took off early...early for a drive to Maine. We were gone about 12 hrs. and the 3 of us (including Lacee) were rather tired by the time we arrived home.:tired: So, we will be going out for his b'day dinner this evening. It was a beautiful drive, but not much color yet.

judi, that is great that you have been invited by the other set of grandparents to Thanksgiving dinner. It sounds like you will have a wonderful time. I'm sure the other mother got her instructions from her son just like you did. I guess we do have more Bostons in the USA, now that you mentioned it, but you don't see many people with them. Labs & Golden Retrievers seem to be the norm. I haven't read Dr. Phil's book in a few days because my sinus problems are making my eyes feel gritty and all I feel like doing is lying back with them closed. You must be happy to have your DH & Esteban back.

ledom, did you do any kayaking over the weekend?

Have a great day ladies.

ledom 09-30-2003 08:46 AM

OMG, I just finished my post and accidently hit the delete button. I HATE that!

Kayaking - YES, I say Osprey's which I have never seen before. They had stopped off for some fishing from their migration. I saw three catches over the course of the morning. They were fascinating. Do you have them where you live Alice, and judi? My bird book shows them in the extreme north in summer and in S. Fla, and Texas for winter.

Your drive sounds fun Alice. Fall is just peeking out here too. It is the best time of year IMO.

judi - I am SURE you will be on your best behaviour while having dinner w/ the "(maybe) future in-laws". ;)

Cheryl what is going on with you? Did you decide where you want to live yet?

4myloves 09-30-2003 03:02 PM

Ledom,

I'll be living in Magnolia and driving 26 miles (one way) to work every day. But that part of the state is beautiful, so I should be ok.

Tomorrow is my last day here in the Newport office, and I have a TON of stuff to do!!

In case I'm unable to check in for awhile, you ladies take care!

Cheryl

judi 10-01-2003 11:17 AM

wed. morning

Best wishes Cheryl! New places, new people and new starts are always exciting.

Ledom, no we don't have osprey's here. I like bird watching too.

Alice, happy birthday to the DH! Fall drives are wonderful especially in that part of the world. I got bored with Dr. Phil so I haven't listened to him for awhile.

I am plodding on with phase 2 of South Beach, I even talked the DH into going out for a walk in the night yesterday.

A new consignment place opened up on the island, I am going to take in the 3X clothes so I have nothing to get back into to. Just going to focus on one direction...down. However slowly as long as it is going that way and I am starting to exercise I will be satisfied.

There are a lot of Labs out here too. The small dog favourites seem to be Lhasa Apso's, Shih Tzus, Bichon Frises and poodle mixes. For mid size dogs a lot of people have Australian sheepdogs because they are so good for dog sports.

Enjoy the day!

aleka 10-02-2003 06:15 AM

Gettin chilly....

It has gotten a lot cooler around here. I think tonight it's supposed to get down into the 20's. Later on today DH & I are going to pick the rest of our tomatoes and remove the plants.

Cheryl, how did your last day of work go? I wish you the best of luck with your move and your new job. Please let us know how everything went.

ledom, I don't believe we have ospreys here either. I love to watch birds too. We have bird feeders out in our back yard, but mostly get smaller birds, Gold & House Finches. I have seen Great Blue Herons at smaller ponds. While we were in Maine the other day we saw quite a few wild turkeys in a field.

judi, how do you like Phase 2 of SBD? You have a good attitude about losing weight. I just can't seem to get my act together in that dept.

Enjoy your day!

judi 10-02-2003 06:52 PM

Friday afternoon

Alice, we have some pheasants on the island. Someone brought them here and raised a few pairs then let them go. We get quite few birds here. When we first built the house we had a trumpter swan come and sit in our yard. That was quite wonderful.

SB phase 2 is much easier to live with then phase 1. My WW friend explained the new flex point system, I don't see it as much more exciting than the old point range system...I think if I was doing WW I would prefer the latter.

I exerecised this week...hope to do that "do something for 21 days and it will be a habit".

Have a good weekend everyone.

aleka 10-03-2003 07:46 AM

TGIF!!!

We had a frost overnight. Yesterday we managed to pick the last of our tomatoes and remove the plants. They were the only plants that needed saving.

judi, that must've been quite an experience seeing a trumpeter swan. We had a male and female pheasant in our back yard where we used to live, and the male was courting the female. It was something to watch. Could you give me an idea of what your menu is like on phase 2? I honestly don't know how many carbs to eat per day and not eat too many of them. Thanks, I would appreciate it. I honestly want to do something, but don't think I want to start counting points again.

ledom, what have you been up to?

Cheryl, hope the move is going smoothly.

Take care and have a good weekend.

ledom 10-03-2003 09:56 AM

Morning girls,

Oh, I have just been really busy. Everything seems to be catching up to me. judi, good for you and your exercise goals. My exercising has really suffered this week. I was just tired all week and have been hitting snooze in the a.m., but must get it back together on that front. Love the bird stories!
