@sontaikle The timing of you fast (i.e. time of day you choose to eat) seems to be irrelevant. Most of what I've read says to go with your body's signals. In your case, if you are hungry during the day, have your eating window then. I'm a night eater, so mine is in the evening. One of the great things about IF is that you can tailor it to your schedule and your needs. Good luck! :)

@Patty Good luck and God bless. I firmly believe we have to take control of our own health.

Thanks KTucke7. I agree. So many times, I've listened to the medical fields ideas of this isn't good for you and don't do this and don't do that because it is dangerous. Dah! If I'm not mistaken being over 200 lbs is also dangerous and obviously what they have suggested about what we have to do and what we can't do really hasn't worked. If it had there wouldn't be new diets popping up all the time. Sorry for the rant. I'm going to be 70 this month and I've fought this battle the "experts" way all these yrs and it hasn't worked. The only time it did work was when I ate "my" way which was really eating the IF/IE way of eating when I was a teenager. Of course, we didn't have those names for it back then. And oh how I was always reprimanded for not eating 3 meals a day and snacks. It didn't seem to matter to those fussing at me that I gained when I ate "normal" and lost weight and was healthy when I didn't.
I also agree with what you said to sontaikle. In fact, I just spent the time listening to Dr. Michael Lara's IF 101 again and really took in what he said. I've always leaned toward Intuitive Eating and as I said above when growing up, I only ate when I was hungry which worked out to be NO breakfast and usually 1 or 2 meals a day depending on my hunger. Due to dieting all these years I have had a difficult time doing IE again because I can't seem to recognize the difference in real hunger and craving signals. After listening to him again, I realized that IF will help me to learn those those differences. I believe this means that IF is going to become a real compliment to me doing IE so I can get back to eating "my normal" again. |
Hi everyone! I'm a newbie and have just started reading all the posts here. I watched the youtube video and was amazed. I have a question about the eating window. I'm not really a morning eater except on weekends, Would it be the IF way if I didn't eat breakfast or lunch mon-fri but on weekends had a small healthy breakfast then skip lunch and eat a healthy dinner? I'm trying to grasp the concept of the fasting windows. When I read some who fast in the mornings or every other day, according to Dr. Lara he recommends doing the 8 hour window noon to 8pm for the first two weeks then on maintenance do 4-6 hr window from 4-10 or 6-10 in the evening. so during that time do you eat a meal or two meals? How many calories do you eat??? I'm kinda confused on how to start.

I am glad so many people enjoyed the Dr. Lara video.
I do not know enough about IF to answer your questions, skelley, but there is interesting information in this article. http://www.muscleandstrength.com/art...ittent-fasting Basically, there are many feeding windows 8, 6 or 4 to suit your lifestlyle and if you feel that on some days your body needs nutrients outside these windows, of course you can, but you should still fast for a minimum of 8 hours each day. During your eating window, you eat sensibly as often as you want. To lose weight, a calorie deficit is needed of course. There are other variations of intermittent fasting. One is 5:2, you eat a normal diet on 5 days and on 2 days, a very low calorie diet 500 cal. (woman) or 600 cal. (man). http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19112549 There is no magical recipe. You will have to find what is right for you and this is going to be what is in tune with your body - and this may not be IF. Good luck! |

I was wondering if I was a little weird or something, haha. It's funny--I hate eating at night. Even if I am legitimately hungry I cannot bring myself to eat at night. I've always been that way though, and I could never figure out why. Probably explains why I'm hungry in the morning though. |
Hi everyone, I have joined Weight Watchers, but I have also read a lot about intermittent fasting. What impressed me most was this article from Dr. Mercola:
"What the Science says about Intermittent Fasting." I tried to post the link, but because I don't have 25 posts yet, this website won't let me do it. That article is really worth reading. When I read about the health benefits, I went to my bookcase and dusted off my 8 Hour Diet book By David Zincenko and decided to combine Weight Watchers with intermittent fasting. In other words, I will only eat my points during an 8 hour window. I am also hoping it will hasten my weight loss!:D |
skelley331 I am new to making this work for me, but my window feed is flexible depending on what day it is and what is going on. On days when I'm home, my window can be any time between 4 - 6 hrs which almost always will start around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. On Sundays we go out to eat after church, so I eat around noon and stop between 7 & 8 pm. In fact, I try to never eat past 8 @ night. Sometimes I eat one meal and a snack or sometimes I eat 2 meals and a snack or no snacks at all. Just depends on my hunger signals. I like to think of it as being flexible and hopefully enjoy. Good luck.

Today, I found this article by Alan Aragon, An Objective Look at Intermittent Fasting, that seems to be scientifically sound. I am a physicist and many articles I have found on IF were written by bodybuilders who thought posting a picture of their lean and muscular body was making a point. It was almost cult-like.
I suggest you read the entire article. Here is the conclusion. Quote:

I was going to have dinner, but I fell asleep around 4 and just woke up. Not hungry at all, so I'm shooting for a 24-hr. fast, eating about 2 hours before I workout tomorrow. Hoping to break below 300 lbs. again, for good, by the end of the month.
Feeling well-rested makes me so motivated! |
Okay so today i'm starting the Intermittent fasting, I last ate at 8:05 pm and plan on not eating until noon starting today, but I drank a cup of decaf coffee with two stevia packets, I hope this is still fasting. But I need my one cup of decaf coffee in the mornings. So if I start my eating hour at noon thru 8:00 p.m that gives me my 8 hour window is this correct? :carrot:

I'm 16 hours in to my fast at the moment. Had my coffee. Drank my water and took my vitamins earlier. I am waiting for some offices and the market to open so I can go get my groceries and run my errands this morning. Otherwise, I have nothing to do! This is the moment of danger, when I spoil my fasts. I'm edgy, bored, and the vitamins on an empty stomach may have been a mistake. My tummy feels knotted now, and quite empty. I was hoping to make it till 4 p.m.

okay here is what I did for my first day:
Last meal yesterday at 8:30 p.m. first meal today at 12:30 p.m. So I made it thru a 16 hr fast, is this what i'm suppose to do? Then I eat my meals between 12:30 and 8:30 today. |
