Anyway, I do feel alert and a constant headache during the first week of IF, I'm thinking of stop the program. is that normal to have a migraine-like headache?

I'm not sure. I definitely felt better after a couple weeks when my body adjusted to the new eating habits. You have to do what you think is right for you.

I'm still going with 5:2, a few months in now. I was doing two consecutive days to get it over with but decided to break it up now.

Vacation and IF did not work out so well. Even with my partner doing it with me, we have four kids who needed to eat and ate out. All went well with healthy foods and increased activity so I actually lost a smidge after the 10 days. It was no problem getting back on plan when we got home and a fast day right off the bat helped shed all that travel water retention.

Hello everyone.....

I hate to barge in, but I just recently started looking into IF and I think I'd do well on it. I was thinking about the 6:18 plan to start with and maybe move in to a 5:2 one day when I am more comfortable? I am used to skipping breakfast and my lunch break starts at 1.

I haven't eaten anything after 8, so this week I've stuck to it mostly without even meaning too. I've only lost about 2 lbs. I say only. I've probably dropped more, but my monthly hates me and my weigh in day isn't till Sun so nothing counts till then. I am eating 800 to 1200 calories during my non fasting hours. To be honest, I'm hungry all the time, even after eating a full meal. I think that's more in my head than actual hunger and it goes away pretty quick. I'm not intentionally trying to eat just 800 calories btw, that's just what I end up with after all is said and done. The last two days have been 1200 or slightly over.

Am I doing this right? Any help is appreciated.

You need to eat more. 1200 calories is not enough. If your ticker is correct you should be able to eat around 2000 calories and still be on a cut. This is not a diet. This is a new way to look at food and to live a healthier life. Can you honestly see yourself eating only 800-1200 calories a day? Be sure to drink lots of water also and please eat fresh veggies(raw is even better). Veggies with nutritional value...not lettuce. Your body needs lots of leafy greens, protein, and water. And there is nothing wrong with carbs so eat up but protein, veggies, and water is top priority. I mostly do 23:1 but depends on how I feel I will do 20:4 or 16:8 if I want to eat more.

How many calories are you eating a day? How much water are you drinking a day? And could you give an example of what you would normally eat during your feeding window? Did you get headaches before you started fasting? If you normally consumed junk food before and you're now eating healthier it could be part of the detox.

Good morning IF'ers!

I am still going strong!

I was out of town for a wedding 10/2-10/9. I was going to try to maintain IF while I was away, but it was a 3 hour time difference, and I was on the brides very strict schedule, as befits being the matron of honor, so threw that out the window and just tried to eat sensibly. Which didn't work too well, but wasn't horrible. I had only been practicing IF for 3 weeks before that and had lost 6 pounds. I gained 5 over that week, but I have already lost 4 of those. I expect by next week I will be back where I started and can start moving forward.

Hope everyone is doing well! It seems this thread is a little more quiet than last time I checked in.

Yes you can't stress those few pounds you gain while on vacation. It's never your true weight. It's just a little water retention and once you're back to eating your normal IF schedule you will drop the weight.

Reached my final kilo before goal weight, Woo! Only thing is it seems like i'm not going to be happy with being at goal weight so I may just keep going to 100-105kg.

15 hours in to a planned 36 hour fast today. I slept really well last night, so I'm feeling strong right now. I always lose it if I attempt a fast after a poor night of sleep.

I'm new here, as is probably evident by the fact that I have no cute avatars or ticker tapes! I plan to follow a 14-hour IF plan wherein I have my last meal at 5:00-6:00 p.m. (dinner) and eat breakfast the next morning between 7:00-8:00 a.m. I will allow myself one "cheat" day each week to accommodate meals out with friends & family & holidays.

I hope to lose 15 lbs. this way.

I tend to do my overeating at night because I'm famished by the time I return home from work. However, lately, I've been brown bagging my a high-protein dinner, eating it BEFORE I come home, and it's been amazingly easy to stay away from the food at night. So I think this may be my tribe. :smug:

New part of my weightloss journey starts tomorrow, going to dedicate 1 hour atleast 5 days a week to the gym for toning weights/cardio until i move home around december. Time to go from my goal weight average body to a trimmed body i can be happy with.

First week of IF

Hi!

I'm thrilled to be joining you folks. I'm one week in to a 5:2. I love fasting (always have!), and feeling great. I had a baby 7 months ago and can't shake the 25 extra pounds.

I plan to eat well most non-fast days, with occasional splurges. I have a terrible time finding time to exercise though. Do you think I will lose weight? Many folks imply that IF is only good for maintenance. I'll try to do some body weight strength work at least 2-3 times a week.

What do you folks think of doing 19/5 on top of the 5:2? I have to get the scale to move and it just won't, despite some real improvements in portion control! I know my set point is now 173 and my body will do anything to stay there.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Hello everyone I'm 30 yr old male just discovered 'IF' and been going at it for about 5 days now for most of my life I've struggled with my weight due to the love of food n eating it but I'm at a point in my life where I really want to make a change,.I've done a lot of reading no watched a lot of videos on utube about other ppl n the success they've had with it so decided to give it a try n I must say that I'm liking it so far,I've come to realize that hunger is a state of mind n that when I feel hungry I cud push thru it no need to eat at every sign of it, for the first 3 days I did a 18-6 n faired pretty well, but I decided to see how long I can actually go n how much I can push my body so I'm on about 40 hours now fasted and I still feel good not really hungry at all, just drinking a lot of water but I will eat something by 12 today but now I know what my body capable of I'm not saying it's been easy becuz there were times the feeling got just a oil extreme but I pushed thru for a lil bit n the hunger pangs went away, I must admit I'm a person who loves food so the fact that I cud do this proves to me there is nothing that can't be done if you want it bad enough,.hope everyone else here sticks it out becuz I know it'll be greatly rewarding in the end. Hope this was a lil bit of encouragement, I'm about to go take a walk now while I'm in the fasted state so enjoy everyone....

New to IF

I am looking for weight loss buddies. I am 46 and 324lbs, Jan 15, 2014 I got on the scale and I was 355lbs so I decided to start consciously trying to lose weight, so I have been trying different diets, Atkins, Carbohydrates Addict, Juice Fasting and I did lose weight but I couldn't stick with it. I decided to just try eating healthier and have been fluctuating between 330lbs & 341lbs for the last year. Last Sunday I went to read something and my vision was so bad, I wasn't sure if it was high blood pressure or high blood sugar but I don't want to lose my eyes so I started googling eye health and came across intermittent fasting for eye health. There was a lot of good research on 16 hour fasting, 20 hour fasting & 24 hour fasting and how it helps the body by limiting digestion to a few hours of eating and giving your body the other16, 20 or 24 hours to focus on cell regeneration and cell repair which would help my eyes, boost immune system, decrease inflammation in the body (less aches & pains), increase HGH for energy and vitality, it also claims major weight loss as well. I decided to try it really for my eyes and the increased energy and health benefits and so far to my surprise I started Monday at 331lbs and yesterday I was 324lbs, I also feel great! Losing weight, feeling better most of the day (you do get a headache the last hour of your fast, but then your fine), having more energy and turning on age reversing immune boosting cell repairing hormones! This is the life for me, I think I found something I can stick too the best part is for 16 hours I don't think about what I can have or what I can't have and when my 8 hours is on I can eat whatever I want or what ever I have on hand, I hate having to make special meals for myself. I cannot believe that yesterday I had chefboyardee ravioli for lunch and coffee with sugar and cream, KFC chicken with mash and gravy for dinner, for a snack while watching TV I had hot cheese popcorn and plantain chips plus two chocolate Hershey kisses and got on the scale and still lost 3 more pounds that's incredible! Now I know that is not healthy eating, so I start my eating window 12:30pm to 8:30pm with a glass of milk, a multivitamin, an omega 3 oil tab, a vitamin b complex, a colace and an enteric coated 81mg aspirin, I also try to get in 2 tablespoons of Chia seed for fiber. During my 16 hours of fasting I drink hot water with Lemon, water or coffee with 1 tablespoon of half n half no sugar, I'm not usually hungry after dinner its a big plate though, and I think the fasting is helping with the cravings also I remind myself I can have that tomorrow. So far for me this way of eating fits perfectly into my lifestyle. Now its only been a couple of days and the scale on Tuesday day 1 said 330.2 so I only lost .8lbs, Wednesday day 2 the scale went back to 331, Thursday day 3 the scale dropped to 327.2, Friday day 4 the scale dropped to 324, Saturday day 5 the scale is 324.6 but I'm not worried because it seems to rise and then fall again, which I am fine with as long as it continues to go down again lower. Most of the time I feel great except the last hour or two before the 16 hours is up, I get tired and then a headache, but your suppose to add 8 minutes of exercise before the first meal to burn extra fat because you are already burning fat as fuel. So I started walking around the block twice its about 16 minutes on Wednesday, and the headache stops as soon as you start exercising and you get a nice burst of energy as well. I feel great most of the time, I feel like I have more energy, my eyesight has definitely improved and my knees seem to feel better too. All in all I am liking this lifestyle, I'm not calling this a diet, it doesn't feel like one and probably because I am staying away from that negative term. So that is my story so far, like I said I am looking for weight loss support buddies to talk to and keep each other on point.
