I don't think I have much of the diet mentality. Diets to me mean more eventual weight gain.
I'm not having a very great day today IE wise. I have been going along good but today had a bout of painful TMJ and for some reason felt that eating would just make me feel better.... but of course it was emotional eating. (And did not make me feel better at all).
Feeling kind of discouraged. Tomorrow is another day.
Just wanted to let y'all know that I seem to automatically doing IF without even trying. It just seems to come so naturally for me. I don't eat anything until around 2 in the afternoon most of the time and I seem to be through sometime between 8 or 9 depending on what is going on. So I've decided just go for it. My fasting blood sugar is normal when I eat this way and right now that is the big thing for me.
I am so hungry in the morning and sometimes even in the night that I eat right away. I have tried the other way and I really overeat if I let eating go too long after I feel hunger.

That is why we cannot say one way fits all. IF has become my IE because I actually have stopped thinking about food all day and seem to have los "diet mentality and my FBS is normal.
carolr - I would be the 1st to say that you have proved that IE works when you listen to your body. If I had listenedto my body years ago instead of the well meaning lady on the other IE support on another site, would have been a lot further with IE. IE/IF combo absolutely comes natural to me and that was what I was doing back then but didn't know it. And I am so thankful to found it. You have always been and still are an IE inspiration to me. If it hadn't been for you, I probably would never have found my way to it.
Thanks for being here and always putting up with me.
I started losing weight in July 2004. I weighed around 195 lbs. The weight came off very steadily, 1-2 lbs a week (with a few weeks of no loss here and there). In February 2005, I began to plateau at 140 lbs. This was very frustrating - my goal weight was 135 and I had a huge desire to see the scale say something UNDER 140 lbs. Just 1-3-something.
I tried eating less, working out more. I weighed myself everyday. I was pretty miserable. But, I never gave up.
Around May, I realized something pretty cool. The weight may not be going down, but it wasn't going up either. I was maintaining, something I had never been able to do before. I decided to quit being miserable and start enjoying all my hard work. I did look fabulous! I bought a bunch of cute clothes in size 10 and really enjoyed that summer.
I increased my calories very slowly to 1800-2000. Imagine my surprise when the scale said 138! I wasn't even trying to lose weight! In October 2005, I went on a 4 week business trip to Asia. I tried to make healthy choices and did a ton of walking, my pants were loose when I got home and I found out I weighed 135 (my goal weight!). I'm still not sure what happened, I think my body just started to feel like there was plenty of food coming in, no reason to hang on to fat reserves. In December - January, I lost 7 more lbs. I have been fairly stable at 126-130 since January 2006. My body seems to be very happy at this weight and so am I
I had to eat more to lose more. It seems counter productive, but it is definitely what worked for me to break the plateau.
It was interesting to look at my weight loss over time. I started in July 2004 around 200 lbs. I weighed 160 lbs by October and 150 lbs by December. I started plateauing at 140 in February 2005. I reached 138 in May 2005, 135 in October 2005, 127 in January 2006. It took me 6 months to lose 55 lbs and then another 9 months to lose the last 15 lbs. Weight loss DEFINITELY slowed down as I weighed less!

SIX YEARS at maintenance weight!
carolr - Thanks for sharing that with us. It is amazing to me that now that I'm doing a combo of IE/IF and I don't have the diet mentality any more that I eat much more than most diets tell you to eat. The amazing thing is that the old thinking hits and I think "oh no I've done it now" thinking I will see a gain on the scales only to find that I either stayed the same or actually lost a lb. I guess we have brainwashed to believe in diets so much that we just beleved everything they told us. What a shame and a waste of my life... all those diets I put my trust in and they didn't do a thing for me.
Thanks again for always finding such good articles etc to share with us and for being such a great inspiration to me Carolr.
Oh, I must share with you that my fasting blood sugar was 95 today. The lowest in 2 years. I love combining IE with IF. As you can see I'm beginning to see the benefits. I'm actually just doing what I was doing with IE a little over 2 years ago before talking to the IE lady on another website. The only thing that is different is that IF has actually helped me to pretty much lose the "diet mentality".
What is IF? Anyway sorry for being awol for a few days, been sick with a bad head and chest cold politely given to me by one of my managers, told her she needs to share the love not the germs! Anyway had a 2 lb. loss this week, so that is good, blood sugar has been good ALL week, which is a plus. Headed out to Church and then work. Have a blessed day all.

CC - IF is Intermittent Fasting. Some fast 16 hrs and have an 8 hr eating window which is where I started. Some do 19 hrs and have a 5 hr eating window. Some fast 24 hrs twice a week until they reach goal and then fast 24 hr one time a week for maintenance. I plan this week to go to eating 5 hr window and fast 19 hrs because it keeps my FBS normal.
