Today has been my first full day wearing it and I went to the gym and just lifted weights, no cardio today. I lifted for about an hour and it showed only 300 calories burned during that time. I thought it would be much more, I lift pretty intensely albeit not in a fast circuit type of routine. Tomorrow I will do cardio as well and see how it reads that. So far I have no issues with the device, the armband is tight and I am asking them to send me a larger one since nowhere on the description on Amazon does it say it comes with a medium-band, since there were no sizes mentioned I just assumed it was universal.

At 290 lbs 3400 sounds about right. Your BMR is probably around 2900 (100 calories for every 10 lbs) and then if you do any movement it's going to add up.

I weigh 195ish right now and I'm showing that I'm burning on a "bad" say around 2000 calories and on days where I am doing moderate workouts I get 2200-2300 and days where I am doing my harder aerobics classes I'm burning 2500-2600 calories easily :)

Course mine tells me to burn 2900 a day and eat 1900- overall I'm getting like almost a 750-1000 calorie deficit a day through my recording. I'm doing more like eatnig 1300 to 1500 and burning 2000-2500.

Yesterday was my first full day wearing my GWF and it recorded my bus ride to and from work as moderate activity...I'm guessing because the bus isn't that smooth of a ride? So I'll see what it shows on the weekend when I'm not on the bus and then remove for my bus rides if need be...I don't want to show I'm burning more calories than I really am! So far though I'm loving having the information at my fingertips!!!!!

Your mets might be set too low. You would need to set it according to your activity level. I have mine set at 3-6 mets for moderate activity. You will also have to play around with it to see what's best.

Hmmmm...not familiar with mets so that gives me something to go research :). Thanks!

Go to your setings tab at the top of your activity manager website and choose preference, you will see this and it has a slider where you can set it:

What is a Met? Here's a guide to get you started. For example, you can adjust your lower moderate activity threshold to a higher value if you find you easily reach your moderate activity target.
1-3 METs Sedentary activity, like sitting
3-6 METs Moderate activity, like a brisk walk
6+ METs Vigorous activity, like running

Don't worry -- the Mets are just an arbitrary measure. It doesn't have anything to do with the actual calories you are ACTUALLY burning.

I was extremely sedentary yesterday other than an hour at Zumba and an hour standing outside in the cold rain for a baseball fundraiser car wash...oh yeah...and doing a couple of WII Fit exercises because my son was challenging me....my GWF shows I burned 2895 (goal is set at 2600) and consumed 1625 calories (goal is set at 1800 which seems way high but it's what was calculated for me by GWF based on my inputs so I had a deficit for the day of 1270 (goal 750)) and somehow I managed to gain a lb from yesterday which I know isn't the case but I'm trying to figure out what it *is* from! Will. Not. Obsess though!!!!!

Well that would explain why my calories burned during the time period on the bus didn't go down when I changed my Mets! I wonder though, why being on the bus would cause me to burn more calories? I went from roughly 1.4 calories per minute to up in the 4-5 calories per minute and then back down to 1.4 while I was sitting at my desk. Weird! Maybe because we're moving so my core is engaged/having to work? Who knows :).

Take your GWF out of the armband and bury it in a bowl of uncooked rice. Leave it there for at least a day or more. It's the best way to dry out electronics, even minute amounts of moisture that can end up frying a device.

I wish I would have seen this earlier, I don't know how I didn't see this post the other day. I will have to try this though, it sounds like a great tip. I did leave the device off my arm for 2 days standing in the upright position in a sunny window hoping to drain out from the usb port any moisture. I put it yesterday afternoon and it turned on correctly. :carrot: After an hour I took it off to see if it would turn off correctly and it did. :carrot: I haven't plugged it in yet, I want to get a full 24 hours on it before I see what it recorded. I'm double crossing every finger and toe I have. Thanks to everyone for all the great advice! Bodymedia of course said too bad so sad, but i am disappointed in their response time. I sent a reply email asking about how I can make sure not to lose my data if I purchase another one and never heard back.

I'll give and update once I plug it in.

question about bodybugg

I have ordered a bodybugg and I am wondering if I can wear it on my calve instead of on my arm?

Anybody know?
TIA

Nope, it's designed to work on your arm. It uses algorithms based on your movement to determine things like what your activity is and how many steps you take.

Having said that, there has been some discussion on message boards on the GWF/BB website about some people wearing it on their leg during spin class and other long distance cycling. No one wears it on their leg all the time though, and it's not designed for that.

Anybody know how many days you can go without uploading data? I will be able to charge it but will not have access to my computer for 6 days while on vacation.

Any help is appreciated.

You'll be fine, it has a 14 day memory. Here is the relevant excerpt from their online FAQ:

"How many days of data collection memory does the Armband have?
The Armband can store up to 14 days of data when worn continuously."

I just got my bodyfit yesterday in the mail and have been wearing it all day. I had some good experience with it at a bootcamp i did in Jan but I was also spending 14 hours a day in the gym. I hope I will still get results in my day to day (albeit slower). I have taken to calling it my electronic babysitter to make me more accountable for moving throughout the day. Doesn't help that I spend 9 hours a day in a cube. :book2:
