:O
I think I just lost my first pound with GWF....and I haven't even been dieting!
I'm made sure that every day since Wednesday that I've burned more than I've eaten.
I checked with two scales and I'm DEFINITELY a pound lighter!
WOOT!

Burned 315 during the workout alone, not all day.

Hello all.... I'm hoping some of you with the Bodybugg can help me. I'm needing help/advice on the calorie burn shown by the bodybugg.

I've had mine for a while and only really started using it religiously in the past few months. My brother and I have spoken about it and the calorie burn a few times, and he keeps telling me that my bodybugg has got to be showing me wrong figures. For example, I can go out and walk for an hour, at a decent pace and my bodybugg says I've burned 500 calories for that walk. He says this can't be right, because his wife goes out running (she walks for x number of minutes then runs/jogs for x number of minutes, she's not a marathon runner or anything) and her Garmin puts her at burning something like 400 for her walk/run.

On a normal day, if I go to work (desk job) and come home and get in my hour walk, for that day I'll end up with a burn of 3000 calories. From what I've read from some of you, that doesn't seem to be an odd number.

So do any of those numbers seem odd? I'm willing to consider that my bodybugg burn is off, but like I said, going by the numbers I'm seeing in the pages of posts I read through, my numbers just don't seem unusual.

thanks in advance!

nope, those dont sound like odd numbers to me at all! You have to consider that the bigger you are, the more calories you will burn doing simple things than someone else who is smaller because it takes a lot more energy to do the task at hand. Someone who is smaller may take more work to achieve the same burn as a bigger person because there is a lot less of them to move around. :)

You know that's what I was thinking too since I'm about 50-60 lbs heavier than my sister in law.

thanks!

Xanudu- I don't achieve those numbers but I am 5'5" and now 164. Yesterday I did a 2 mile Leslie Sansone fast pace workout and burned almost 200 from that and for the day topped off at 2300 cals burned total. During the day I did just normal house work stuff.

I agree, the more you weigh, the more you burn. I consistently burn over 3000 if I go to the gym and walk/jog a 1/2 hour and walk the dog for 20 min. On days that I only walk the dog I usually end in the 2700-2800 range.

I have been wearing my GWF since Jan.1st and have lost 33#. I was losing very well until 6 weeks ago, when I plateaued. I upped the workouts ( which I had been limiting until I hit the dreaded plateau) and have finally broke through it, with a 2.5# loss this week. I averaged a burn of 3140 a day for the week and had a deficit average of 1404 a day.

mjhart23 05-31-2010 02:42 PM

Is there a way to tell how many pounds you should have lost so far based on your calorie deficit every day?

mulder1921 05-31-2010 08:40 PM

You add up all your calorie burns. Then add up all your calorie totals. Subtract the calories from your total of calories burned. Then divide that number by 3500 ( cals in a pound). Thats your answer.
I do my numbers by month. For the first 3 months my weight loss was within 0.3 # from what my calculations showed. Then I hit a plateau. Last week it was back on track.

I find a month of calculations is more accurate then a week. I am going to go do my total time of 5 months with the GWF tomorrow to see the accuracy.

Just to give everyone another data point on the accuracy of the GWF:

I've consumed an average of 1600 calories and burned an average of 3000 calories over the past 21 days. That comes out to 8.4 pounds lost over 3 weeks, which should put me at 203.6 pounds.

In reality I've lost 6.8 pounds (putting me at 205.2 pounds), although a few days ago I did see the number 203.4 on my scale, so I may just be retaining a couple of pounds of water.

Hey, does anyone know if the BodyBugg wireless transmitter would work for the GWF? When I synch my armband it asks me to chose between wired USB and wireless, but as far as I can tell, wireless isn't OFFERED by GWF.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I just screwed up- it was my dad's birthday last week, and we went to a restaurant. It was my first time eating out since I got my GWF. I was good (I ordered a steak salad, dressing on the side)- but I did let myself have a nip of this and that, and I lost count. So I didn't log the meal.

Then I didn't log the meal the next day.

Or the next day. Repeat x5

It sucks, I was SOOO dedicated to my GWF, I had been logging every bite. Now I've gained 2 lbs due to this slip up/ fall off the wagon! It seems like every time I diet, I have a slip up like this and it derails the ENTIRE process. I suspect it might be an "all or nothing" attitude.

Well, I am back on the wagon today and vow to track calories (even though I haven't yet!). How have you guys moved beyond your tracking slip ups?

I understand this "All or nothing" mindset. I am sure a lot of people here do. Every other time I have tried to lose weight, I have had that mindset. This time, something is different. I have decided to forgive myself any little slip-ups because I finally realize that one mistake ( or a few) does not mean that I can't just continue where I left off with the good habits I have finally made.

In the past I would just figure, "well, since I have already failed, I might as well keep failing". BUt now I figure, well, I ate a few too many calories today, so tomorrow I will eat lighter and work out a little more. And I have found that it all balances out in the long run.

It's all about your mindset and keeping yourself motivated. You can get back on track and the past 5 days will not matter in the long run. And then you can look back at your slip-up and re-start as a big accomplishment, which is what it is.

I just ordered myself a GWF and display from Amazon and they should be here tomorrow! Very excited to join you all :).

Help!

Ok, Please tell me someone on here that has a BB or GWF has accidentally washed theirs in the washing machine and it was OK. I can't believe this happened. I am so bummed out right now. :( It came back on but it doesn't seem to be recording my activity correctly. I did my usual walk/run last night for 45 minutes and it only recorded 9 minutes of moderate activity. This is the same walk/run I have been doing for the last 4 months and it has always recorded my activity to the minute. I send Bodymedia a email but haven't heard back. I am afraid the answer is, "Buy a new one" :(
