Ellietheelephant- I totally know how you feel, I move and travel a lot and it is super hard to not gain weight, especially in the first few weeks there! Why are you living in Chile? I have heard it is awesome there!
I have been doing pretty well the last two days and am proud of myself again. hopefully I can keep it up!
71.5 miles out of 100! Even though I haven't been jogging every day, I still feel like I'm making progress with my cardio endurance, and that's obviously the most important thing.
Since I just started doing walking/jogging/running/hiking more seriously in July (as in keeping track of my mileage and stuff), I'm wondering what I should make my goal for next year, mileage-wise. Math logic would claim 240 miles, but I also see a thread elsewhere on the site where people are trying to do 1,000 miles in a year. I don't know if I could do THAT, but we'll see where I'm at at the end of December this year.
Hiya,
Basically I'm in Chile for 9 months as part of my degree, I'm here to improve my Spanish and I'm working as an English teacher. I think the food must be the problem, they have loads of good foods, that are all high in fat. Also everyhting is covered in salt here!!
I've set a 6 day exercise program and am keeping my calories under 1800 every day. Hopefully this should work.
How many kgs is it possible to lose in a month for example? I have no idea. I'm 5"8 and at the moment weigh between 74.7 and 75 kgs
Hello everyone! So exciting to see so many Feathers jumping on this thread. And what an international thread it is!
I am patting myself on the back tonight... stuck at home with a somewhat-sick daughter today, so I motivated after the kids went to bed and went to the gym for a 4-mile run. Yay me! I have been pretty on-plan with food -- too much junk but OK on calories.
Tomorrow night I'm going out to dinner (date night with husband -- few and far between) so I will eat lightly during the day so I can enjoy my dinner. I think we're going for Indian food. I'll hit the gym in the morning -- maybe some cardio, or maybe "Yoga for Athletes." Haven't tried that yet but I'm interested.
Ellietheelephant, I think a kg is about 2.2 lbs, right? I always aim for a pound a week, so just under 2 kg a month? Side story -- when I was in Thailand, we rode elephants, and my friends wanted to name theirs Ellie, but I said no b/c that's my mom's name and she'd be offended.
Kat, I was thinking about joining that 1,000 mile thread. I often run 20 miles or more a week, so it's doable, but I've also been thinking about joining a Boot Camp at my gym, which would cut into my run time. Good for me to cross-train, I think, but I love the idea of that 1,000 miles!
Maenad, I was in Hanoi in September and it was hot as Hades -- unbearable humid, too. Then I went to Cambodia in April and that was worse! Whenever something is really hot, DH and I say, Is it Cambodia Hot? And the answer is always no...

It's such a lovely round number, isn't it? I might try to do halfsies on it for 2011, maybe try to do 500 and see how I'm feeling. But yeah, jogging, walking, and running aren't all I do for cardio, so I don't know how I could fit everything in. :/
Edited to add that I'm up to 73.5 miles this morning! I specifically did some jogging, as I was inspired to continue to increase my mileage by this discussion.
Just read through everyone's Dec 1st goals.... very motivating!
I'd like to add to my goals: I also want to be under 125 lb by Dec 1st.
.... this is going to be tough. Weekends I don't work involve social events, friends visiting, trips home, etc.... but, I think with some planning and mindful "light" eating on days where restaurant dinners and other tempting situations are planned, I can make this happen.
Sending you all good vibes for the month of November!

So I'm patting myself on the back, too, same7--I did a whole week on-plan for exercise! One day of pilates, one day of weights, 3 days of elliptical, and 2 days of running!
I started well for this week--did elliptical this morning. Hopefully I'll stay motivated and run tomorrow, despite the fact that it is FREEZING here until about mid-day (only 57 right now). . .
Awesome, oneoftwelve! That's great. I managed 6 days of cardio this past week, going to try for 7 this week. It's funny how my existence truly feels validated if I spent 30 minutes or more huffing and puffing.
75.5 miles as of this morning, and I'm going to do 2 more miles tonight, which means I only have about 2.5-3 weeks to finish over 22 miles if I'm aiming for the 1st of December. Eek! This seemed so doable a few weeks ago! I'm scared I'm not going to make it, you guys!
On plan so far! Did a 5k today outside (untimed because my watch is out of battery and my ipod is broken--sadness). Planning to do pilates tomorrow (yay! Love pilates!).
I'd like to join you. Now that I finally got to 129.8, I see I'm eating at the upper end of my range and feel like I'm sabotaging this happy event. So it's time for a challenge.
My goals:
To be 128 by Thanksgiving. (I lose realy slowly, so that should be doable.)
To be 127 by Dec. 1
Leg exercies for the sides, besides other exercises that I do.
Eating when I'm hungry only.
To be 140 - But I will take 142 if I can get there!
To not drink until Christmas - Shouldn't be a problem
To workout 5 days a week for at least 30 mins of cardio
To keep trying to stay positive and to not give up!
My goal is to get to 128 by dec. 1st.
I'm sooo close, I did a weigh in this morning- 133! I just need to be good about what I'm eating, snacking, and continue to exercise! I'm starting to take dance classes again, but that's only one night a week. I think I need to tack on a yoga, taiqi, pilates schedule with it
