I conned myself on to the elliptical today, then did the 'one more song' thing until I'd been on for 15 minutes. But then (I'm not the only one who uses my MP3 player).... "Play that Funky Music" and "I Want You to Want Me". 25 minutes had passed almost painlessly.

here are some of my favorite older ones:

True Blue (the whole album)--Madonna
Paye Mate--Buena Vista Social Club
Lover Boy-Dirty dancing
I'm a believer--Monkees (or the remake, whatever)
If I could hold you tonight (i think that's the title)--Bodeans
Safety Dance--Men At Work
Land Down Under--Men w/out Hats

I keep my MP3 player loaded with all of the great songs from my high school and college days - 80's stuff. I was much, much, thinner back then so all of those old songs motivate me by bringing back very vivid memories of what life was like when I wasn't fat - my goodness it was much better! Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy with my family and where I am in life - I'd just like to have the confidence and do anything attitude I had back then.

I also really like to listen to Justin Timberlake and John Mayer - even though I'm a little old to be such a teeny bopper!

P.S. - what a great idea for a thread!

Hi Jawsmom!

btw, I think Justin Timberlake has this big 80's vibe going, which makes him officially retro enough for non teeny boppers! plus that kind of music is just fun. I think I call on my normally closeted inner pop music loving self when I walk!

Speaking of secret exercise listening pleasures, I want to add the following country songs to this growing list. I do not normally listen to this genre, but a friend gave me a disc of country music, and these are the ones that made it to my ipod--

Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy--Big and Rich
Country Boys--Nappy Roots (this is NOT what I expected, and I end up singing it all day, and no one ever knows what it is or that it's country--weird)
I go Back--Kenny Chesney
My Town--Montgomery Gentry
