Smile Music for walking/running

I looked for a thread on what music people listen to while walking/running, but couldn't find one. . .so, I'm starting this one--if someone knows of a thread like this already existing, please let me know. Thanks!

What do you listen to when you walk/run? I thought if people shared their lists, we could all get ideas to help keep our lists interesting. I'd love to hear some great ideas to help me mix it up so I have multiple lists to choose from and don't get bored with the one I have!

This is my playlist for walks with jogging intervals (um, I don't run):

Finally--Patti Page (gets me started in a positive way)
Lora Lei--The Pogues (nice, lyrical, but still walking fast)
Corazon Espinado--Santana (good for a fast walk interval)
Wild World--Cat Stevens (good to slow down a bit again)
Marry--Domestic Problems (Michigan band, cute song about love/family makes me smile)
James Francis--Domestic Problems (same, but this is about the lead singer's dad)
Africa--Toto (good walking pace, bright energetic)
Breakfast at Tiffany's--Deep Blue Something (same)
Sometimes--Midnight Oil (I usually jog to this, it appeals to my sense of social justice and makes me feel strong and determined)
Lust for life--Iggy Pop (I can't help moving fast to this one!)
I Wanna Be a Supermodel--Clueless soundtrack (funny, slows me down to a walk)
One Week--Barenaked Ladies (fast enough to return to a jog if I'm up to it)
Runaround--Blues Traveler (fast walk, just a great song)
Smooth--Santana/Rob Thomas (still a fast walk, really energetic to keep me going)
Desert Rose--Sting (a great cool-down song, very peaceful and meditative)

Great topic! I have "Lust for Life" on my list, too! Another one that I find great to walk/jog to is "All My Life" by the Foo Fighters

you read my mind. i was going to start a thread about this this morning.

i crave really overplayed pop music when i run. here's my latest cd

lean back -terror squad
ignotion remix- r kelly
lose my breath- destiny's child
goodies-ciarra
move your body- nina skye
hit em up style- blu cantrell
head sprung-ll cool j
got yo money- ol dirty *******
milkshake- i can never remember her name
bootylicious- destiny's child
you remind me- usher

and then for the cool down
my boo- usher/alicia keys
confessions pt one and two- usher
burn - usher
my way- usher
if i ain't got you- alicia keys

on days when i really feel like diggin in, i've got overly played pop music from the "punk" genre.

emo- blink 182
J.A.R.- greenday
Stutter-elastica
Lifestyles of the rich and the famos-good charlotte
fat lip- sum 41
movies- alien ant farm
take it off- the donnas
in too deep- sum 41
young and hopeless- good charlotte
bad reputation- joan jett ( had to get one really good song in here )
she- greenday
motivation- sum 41
loser anthem- good charlotte
come on eilleen- save ferris

anything that moves, and i can sing along to, turns into a good running cd for me. i mouth along to the words and before i know it i'm finishing up mile three.

Cool topic! Being from the Pacifici Islands, I enjoy walking/running/working out to good tahitian music.. I find that the faster the drum beats are, the faster I move..

I find the following albums are pretty good:

Stone Temple Pilots - Core
Velvet Revolver - Contraband
Green Day - Dookie
Rage Against the Machine - Self Titled
Blind Melon - Self Titled, Soup, Nico, Bootlegs with ampy songs on them
Rammstein
Sometimes guns'n roses
Everclear
Offsrping

My boyfriend made up a cd for legs workout, it has '80 & '90's hardcore dance tracks, plus marilyn manson, disturbed, rod zobie, offspring, the donnas on it.. all stuff the gets me going

I dunno, I am a rock chick, although sometimes at the gym I will tune in to the overplayed pop! The Milkshake song is by Kaylis (sp??)

How about audio books? They pass the time so well.

Here are a couple more:
Eminem--from 8 mile soundtrack, and Cleanin' out my closet
No doubt--it's my life (actually all No Doubt songs are good for moving to)
Moby
Barenaked Ladies
Bodeans--If I could hold you

that's it so far.

Please don't spare us, Jessie! The more ideas, the better. I have the attention span of a housefly, so I need to constantly mix up my music or I get bored/unmotivated!!!

Hmmm, I'm starting to wonder if I mention what I listen to if anyone will know what I'm talking about. So...who are all these people you guys are talking about? LOL

Some of my favorite running tunes are:

Teenage Wasteland
Pour Some Sugar On It
**** is For Children
Comon Ileen
Karma Cameleon
Brickhouse
Wild Thing
We Built This City on Rock and Roll
We've Got the Beat
Centerfold
Cecilia
Kiss Me Deadly
Heartbreaker
Freeze Frame
Paradise City
Sweet Child of Mine
Panama
Jamie's Crying
Dance the Night Away
I Will Survive
Hey Now You're a Rock Star
Roll With the Changes

Since I've learned to run, I don't walk anymore, so I don't have any specific walking tunes.

Now if any of you guys are wondering what the heck these songs are, think 80's, perhaps even 70's. If you weren't born yet, you don't know what you're missing.

LOL at Almostheaven. I was thinking the EXACT same thing. Your song list is great! I recognized all of them

As for me I have about 5 different compilation CD's that I run too. Here is what I ran to this morning:

Piece of my Heart - Janis Joplin
Shameless - Garth Brooks
The Promise - When in Rome
Stuck in the Middle - (from Reservoir Dogs...don't remember who sang it)
Shook me All Night Long - AC/DC
No One Like You - Scorpions
Rock me Amadeus - Falco
Under Pressure - Queen
Fight for your Right to Party - Beastie Boys
Cruel to be Kind - Nick Lowe (I think)
Knock 3 Time - Tony, Orlando and Dawn
Rock n Roll All Night - KISS
Mr. Jones - Counting Crows
Wipeout - Fat Boys (remake with the Beach Boys)

And as Almostheaven said...think 80's and before (for the most part).
