Default hi

hi michelle and jennifer! i think we should keep this thread going too. maybe we can start a craze on here!

jennifer - i been thinking about one myself for a few months and i keep hearing how much fun they are and it's not even like exercisiing. it is a wonderful motivation for kids. i've read lots of stories on those sites michelle recommended above. i'm a little confused on the pads type myself. everyone says the metal cobalt flux one is the top of the line but soo expensive. now they have a hard plastic one... but i wonder if that will crack??? other people like the soft pads but complain about them sliding.....i'm sooo confused. i'm not gonna invest till i get back from vacation because i'll be gone a while.

michelle - what fun would it be without a little friendly motivation!!!! i hope you whoop butt! i would love to compare when i get one. that would be fun too.

keep me updated! have a good weekend!

Just a side note, I have not had my pads slide around yet and they are the nonslip ones. I was also thinking that perhaps I will have hubby buy some ply wood and affix the pads to that? I'm not positive it will work but it can't be too bad an idea

This is so much fun!! If you guys buy it and you don't like it, I will buy it from you, if its not a disc that I don't already have That is my guarantee LOL!!

Default hi

hey michelle! i'm glad your having fun. i saw on one of those sites a thread on how to modify your pad. it shows each step using plywood and some kind of clear cover and a staple gun, but you have to be careful not to staple the pad itself. do you have it on carpet or hard flooring??? just curious..

have a good weekend!

Kathy, I have mine on carpet, but it doesnt slide around or anything, but I am afraid to wear shoes on it cuz I don't want to tear it up. I'm gonna wear my sneaks on it tomorrow and see how it holds up. I'm going to check those sites for instructions on making the hard pads Can't wait for you to get it so we can team up

have a nice weekend!

Michelle, did you try it with shoes? Also, I have a hardwood floor - is that a good thing, or a bad thing? I never thought about it until you talked about nailing it to plywood.

LOL, I have no idea how it works on hard floors. Tomorrow I'll put it on the kitchen floor and step around on it and let you know I wanted to put it on plywood to make it a "hard" mat and maybe it would hold up for a long time. I'm going to try it with shoes tomorrow, I forgot to put them on before I started playing today whoops! I'll keep you posted though

I didn't think you were supposed to use shoes with either mat, because the more you get going on the steps, the harder you would put your foot down, thus stepping harder on the sensors. At least when you're barefoot it wouldn't be as hard of a hit against the sensors, with shoes you could break it rather easily.

Default hi

hi dancers! i looked all over tonite and there is not a ps2 to be found. all sold out for xmas. i guess i'll have to stick to that original plan and wait till i get back from vacation in the beginning of jan... boo hooo!!! i tried

ali cat - you have a very good point. from what i read the people who do use shoes have one of those metal pads. do you have one too?? how do u like yours and if you do what good advice do you have for jennifer and i???

i'm going to get a double pad bundle because my friend wants to do it with me. she says it sounds like fun to her too. it will be nice to have someone to play with.

have a good sunday everyone!

No, I don't have a metal pad, just one of the cheap ones. Unfortunately I'm a poor college student, so the metal pads are a bit out of my price range and I'd have no where to store it in this apartment of mine.

Well, I'm one for finding shortcuts too but the best bit of advice I can give you is to try to use it on carpet and barefoot (if you have one of the mats that is, not the metal pads). A friend of mine put it on a hard surface and it slid all over the place. When I do it on carpet, it shifts some but not enough that it's a problem and I can always adjust it before the next song. Also, it just says to use it barefoot, and I've always done so, but I've heard of people doing just what I said up there, used it with shoes and stepped too hard on the sensor and broke it.

Default Hi

hi! tried a few more stores today and no ps2 there either. i was told i would have to wait till after xmas. oh well! i've waited this long, i guess another month won't hurt.

ali cat - i've decided to try the soft non-slip pads. i really don't want to spend stupid money either. i'm just a poor working woman.

michelle - did you get to the next level yet???

LOL next level? I'm still getting coordinated LOL!! I love it though!! There is part of the game that has a running race where you run on the mat and I was doing that with my daughter, it was fun!! I'm keeping my eye on the red octane metal dance pad, I may just order them now, they sure look more durable! I'll have to discuss it with hubby first though.

Kathy, did you check ebay or amazon for a playstation 2 console? DDR also works with the PS1 console and those are cheaper They might be more readily available.

Have a great night!!

We went to Best Buy Sunday and they have a new foam mat that is very durable and you can use the shoes on it. The sales rep said it was the best you can buy in stores. It is $100 but then you get a $20 card to use in the future or give away. The Ultramix 2 for Xbox was $40, so hubby got that in line right after me so it was $20 after the card. Now I just need to clear off some floor space and get dancing.

On another topic, I saw an article in the newspaper for antoher xbox, PS2 (2005) game called Yourself fitness where there is a personal trainer who talks you through a workout and changes your routine, lets you give feedback and paces the workout according to you. Ther are also recipies on it. Anyone see it or have other feedback on it. Amazon.com was selling it for $35.

Default hi

hey there!

hmodrow-i have heard of that yourself fitness in my magazines but i don't know of anyone who's tried it.sorry! unfortunately i don't have a best buy around here. what was the brand of your mat you bought??

michelle - i haven't checked either. i saw on cnn headline news that ps2 are a hot commodity this xmas and nowhere to be found. i might have one lined up though. long story but it won't be until after the holidays either. do you still have to hit the arrows on that running race???

happy humpday!

There is a whole thread on yourself fitness on this board, down a little ways.

http://www.yourselffitness.com/default.aspx

That's the website for it too.

PS2s are big this year because they came out with the thinner console and it's $50 cheaper. Big whoop if you ask me.

LOL Ali I feel the same way about the thinner console who cares lol we've already got our big bulky ps2 I'm not running out for a thinner version when this one works just fine. I'm definately getting yourself fitness when it comes out for ps2 which I believe is in January.

I got a 30 minute DDR workout yesterday and man oh man was I sweating lol but I was having soooo much fun! I'll be ordering my metal dance pad on the 5th of January I'm excited to get that!

Kathy, can't wait for you to get it!!

Have a nice morning ladies!!
