Default To Fitbit or not to Fitbit...THAT is the question!

All righty, 3FCers...before I go to bed on my last night as a 32-year-old (bahahaha!) I have a question for you all.

I've been totally wanting a Fitbit for ages now. I'm a bit obsessed with techy gadgets anyway (hence the fact that I have a WW pedometer and a Polar FT7 heart rate monitor). But the thing is: since I started calorie counting instead of point counting (I find it more useful now that I have begun running), I barely use my WW pedometer, because I don't need to know the points. I have been using it a bit more lately, since I do like to know the number of steps I take on a daily basis. I would love to be able to track the actual number of calories I burn on a daily basis...and needless to say, the HRM isn't exactly suited to all-day use.

I'm also, I have to admit, intrigued by the idea of having my sleep analyzed. (I know it's probably not *dead-on*, but still.)

So. I am toying with the idea of buying one for myself as a birthday present. *L* I'm leaning toward the One, simply because the sleep feature intrigues me. And I love the idea that the Fitbit "talks" to SparkPeople and MFP, too.

I'm leaving it to you guys to convince me (or not....*L*) Do you love the Fitbit? Do you find it motivates you to be more active? Or is it just another overpriced fad?

And......GO!

I love my fitbit! I have the older one (Ultra). Wish I could exchange it for the One (the one wasn't out when I bought mine). The only things I don't like about it were fixed with the One. The one has a a better grip system than the Ultra (I lost mine briefly when it un-clipped from my pocket) and the One syncs to your phone/computer wirelessly (Ultra requires a doc you plug into the USB port).

I like looking at my steps. I like watching the flower grow. I don't use the sleep tracker much, so I can't comment on that.

ETA: Happy Birthday!!!

I bought the fitbit zip about 3 weeks ago, and I love it. I decided on the zip because I had no need for a sleep monitor or the stair tracking because my home is one story.

Things I like

-It does make me more active. If my steps are low for the day I’ll try to bring them up that night or do double steps the next day.
-I like that it shows me how many calories I’ve burned through the day
-I love that it syncs up with MFP
-My favorite part, Fitbit sends me a weekly e-mail with a complete report of my previous week. This shows me where I need to improve for the coming week.

Things I don’t like

-Sometimes I don’t remember until later in the day to put it on.
-Depending on what activity I’m doing, it’s not completely accurate.
-The price. Realistically the zip is a pedometer with an app. I don’t think it’s a fair price, but I would buy another one. So go figure.
-Badges, not as many as I’d like. The incentive to earn badges was originally a selling point for me, but I’m finding there aren’t that many to earn. It’s been 3 weeks and so far I’ve only earned 2.

One of my main execrises is a recumbent bike at home. I am thinking of the Fitbit Flex. Would any of the fitbit's 'count' this? I am not moving my arms that much and, obviously reclining. But getting a good workout nonetheless.

Just not sure it would 'register'.

I love love love my Fitbit One and would recommend it to anyone! The price is really steep for what it is, but for me it was worth it. I find myself walking around the house or up and down the stairs at the end of the day just to hit my steps/stairs goals if I hadn't already. The next day I want to try and beat my previous 'score'. Like 2fat2jump said, the weekly report is also really cool and helpful. Like you, I chose the One because I was drawn in by the sleep tracker & silent alarm. At first it was incredibly interesting and I could barely sleep because I couldn't wait to see the results haha. But now, if I'm being honest, I don't bother to put it on unless I need the alarm (a soft buzzing on your wrist is a much gentler wake up than a shrill alarm!).

The only thing that I feel the need to warn people about is that when driving, it has a tendency to count extra steps or stairs climbed, sometimes hundreds depending the road you're on. MAJOR downside that was super annoying at first but still fixable - just go into the app/on the website and log that you were driving from time A to time B and the count will go back down. However, I've found lately that if you can put the fitbit horizontally while in the car, it doesn't seem to drive the number up.

I have the FitBit One.... I'm actually on my second one.... I dropped my first one in my pool without realizing it... and I ran out and bought a new one before I found it at the bottom of the deep end... and no, I wasn't trying to swim with it... lol... It just somehow became unclipped from my shorts... and I've almost lost the thing a few other times.... So if you do get one be careful...

Anyway.... It definitely has motivated me to be more "active".... I've actually been trying to walk 15,000 steps a day on top of my running and one day I even earned the badge for 20,000 steps... So now of course I want to earn the badge for 25,000 steps in a day... And I really love the floors climbed feature since I'm in NYC.... So one day I decided to go for the 100 floors climbed badge... And I actually climbed 115 flights of stairs in various buildings in one day.... So now of course I want to make an attempt for the next badge and go for 125 flights of stairs in a single day.... Although after looking on the FitBit site apparently there are some people who have done 200 flights of stairs in a single day! And needless to say I don't think I'll be earning that badge anytime soon...

I also like how it links with MFP and other various apps.... And I truly believe if I followed its calorie recommendations I would finally start making some progress toward losing the rest of this weight and make it to goal... But I always seem to want to be eating in my "maintenance" range.... lol... But when I stick with the calories it says I should be eating for the day... I lose... So I really am going to try to be more disciplined about that...
