10,000 Kettlebell Challenge

seeking participants to start Jan 2nd or 3rd for some :-) i know its still a holiday for some folks the 2nd of jan for recovery :dizzy::dizzy::dizzy:

If you’re looking to burn an enormous amount of calories, sculpt and tone lean muscle and feel incredible, KettleBell training is for you! Although Kettlebells have just become immensely popular in the fitness industry, kettlebell training is NOT new. Kettlebell training has been around since the early 1900′s.

Benefits of Kettlebell Training
■Total body conditioning: Kettlebell exercises are meant to work your entire body. While it may seem that you are really working your shoulders or legs, kettlebell exercises call on nearly every muscle in your body to perform a movement. This is unprecedented fat burning and muscle sculpting at its finest!
■More results, less time: Because each kettlebell exercise works multiple muscles, you don’t need to spend hours in the gym. Even a 30 minute power workout will get you incredible results.
■Lean muscle development: Because kettlebell exercises use light weight with repeated repetitions in a fast and concise movement, kettlebell exercises have lean, sculpted bodies. Kettlebell exercises are NOT used to develop bulky or thick muscles. This is particularly appealing to women.
■Major calorie burning: The American Council on Exercise estimates that Kettlebell workouts burn approximately 20 calories per minute, that’s 1,200 calories an hour! To burn that many calories, you would need to run a 6 minute mile for about 20 minutes straight!

http://kettlebellinc.com/magazine/20...ing-challenge/

Let’s do the math. 10,000 swings in 30 days is roughly 333 swings every single day.

I'm absolutely in; I have a ten pound kettle bell and I KNOW how awesome it is for my body...I have a great routine too! I just never get around too it, I'm a cardio girl, but I gotta!

jenjen 12-22-2011 04:02 PM

You know I'm in!!!

I'm looking forward to this. I'll start on Jan 2nd.

I think I'm going to have to bring my 15# to work and purchase a 25# for home. The gym has 10#-35# for me to use, but I think that's the only way I'm going to get the swings in.

I'm very excited!!! :D

midwife 12-22-2011 05:38 PM

I have a feeling Santa is bringing me kettlebells! But I can't start the challenge until Jan 24th! Perhaps another challenge in February?

yeh mesc and jen jen i cant wait hat mini challenge we did was awesome though

oxymoronica 12-28-2011 11:16 PM

I just bought myself (err, picked out my own Christmas present, that is) my first kettlebell, so I'd like to get in on this challenge. :) Obviously since I'm new I will have to work up to it so I don't hurt myself, but I do SO enjoy setting lofty goals, lol.

jenjen 12-29-2011 04:23 PM

Getting geared up for the challenge! I bought a 30 pounder today to use as well. I'm going to take my 15 pounder to my office so I can get some swings in at work.

Welcome, oxymoronica! Kettlebells are a great workout. I hope you'll enjoy it!

BABYPHAT4ME 12-30-2011 09:45 AM

awesome jen, i am sure when this 10k challebge is over i will be able to swing 30lbs lolol...shoot i moved up to 20lbs so i am getting closer and closer lol

ross88guy 12-30-2011 11:49 AM

The gym at the office has bought itself a brand new set of kettlebells! I think this is fates way of telling me that i should do this challenge!

Hey gang! I did 400 swings today. Did half with the 30 pounder and the other half with the 15 pounder.

Ross, I really enjoy using kettlebells. Hope you will like using them.

twish 01-02-2012 09:15 PM

I missed the last kettlebell challenge, so count me in. I bought myself a 15lbp and a 25lbp for Christmas.

It seems like a lot of swings to do in one day... but I'm up for the challenge!

twish 01-03-2012 12:57 AM

I can only do a max of 30 swings at a time. I've only done 115 so far today. I hope to get to 200.

Can anyone who has done the challenge before comment on whether the max number of swings per set increases by much when done daily?

jenjen 01-03-2012 11:44 PM

Hi gang! I did another 500 today. I'm trying to get a real jump on the challenge because I know there will be days of zero or a minimal number of swings.

Twish, Welcome! I've had to work my way up. 30 swings at a time is a great start. With lighter weight, I can do 75-100 swings (15 pounder). I can do 25-40 with the 30 pounder. You'll get there.

300+ swings a day is a lot, I admit. A good starting point may be 100 swings a day. I've been working out with kettlebells for a little over a year. This is my first attempt at 10k swings in a month.

twish 01-04-2012 12:15 AM

Thanks JenJen! I managed to get up to 330 swings yesterday. I would get up every 30-45 minutes and do as many as I can. Only 175 so far today, but I don't want to overdo it. I'm doing the 30 Day Shred at the same time. The kettlebell swings actually help stretch out my abs, which feels great.

I'm really goal-oriented, which is one of the reasons this challenge holds so much appeal. When I was more fit, I did work out with kettlebells so it feels good to be "back in the swing of things." :)

BABYPHAT4ME 01-04-2012 02:23 AM

i cant wait to get back in town so i can logg my throw in, i be back tommorow, i just wanted to show myself real quick so everyone knows i didnt forget about there.

Twish, great job! I know once I got started and consistently used kettlebells, I moved up quickly or could do many more reps.

Babyphat, Glad to see you're in the swing of things. :D

I did another 500 last night, so that brings my total to 1,400. I'm hoping to hit 3,000 by/on Sunday.

10,000 - 1,400 = 8,600.

Have a great day everyone!

Way to go, Babyphat! I also worked out with the trainer this morning. I'm hoping I'm not too sore tomorrow to get some swings in.

Have a great day everyone.

BABYPHAT4ME 01-07-2012 07:39 PM

omg jenjen my thighs are killing me, i got down into that 2hand swing each time lol.......i now walk like a cowboy lololol, at lease i know im getting a full body workout...i hope it doesnt get worst tommorow, the good thing is its good pain lol which i love, i wont be able to do any more until monday but i was glad to get some in today since i realy excerise on a saturday..........but i am trying to swing my fat away lol

jenjen 01-08-2012 11:04 AM

Babyphat, I'm really sore today--between the swings and the trainer workout, my entire body aches. I'm going to do my best to get in at least 200-300 swings. It might be 25 at a time though!!!

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday.

jenjen 01-08-2012 03:29 PM

7200-400=6800

I'm not really sure how I got another 400 swings in. I only used the 15 pounder though the 30 pounder was just too daunting today.

BABYPHAT4ME 01-09-2012 07:06 PM

u go jenjen work that body, i didnt get anything done yesterday i was soo beat i stayed in bed all day, my thighs was sore all day from doing the kettlebell video on saturday an friday lol

8065-550=7515

I HAVE A FEELING MY ARMS WILL BE SORE TOMMOROW, I DID THE VIDEO AN DID MY SWINGS LOL
HOW IS EVERYONE ELSE DOING

jenjen 01-09-2012 10:17 PM

6800-550=6250

The soreness has pretty well gone away. I think the swings yesterday helped work out the pain and loosened up my muscles.

Babyphat, great job! I keep thinking about taking a rest day, but I'm afraid that I would slack off.

BABYPHAT4ME 01-10-2012 02:02 PM

Jen at the rate we are going i think we be doing 20k swings lol

oxymoronica 01-10-2012 03:07 PM

You guys are all doing great! I'm way behind - I've been resting because three days into it I -unrelatedly- hurt my hip somehow and kettlebell swings were making it hurt more. So I think I'm just going to keep taking it slow. Definitely not going to make 10,000, but at least I'm getting some done, lol.

BABYPHAT4ME 01-10-2012 04:17 PM

7515-600=6915
i also did the kettlegenics video an that was an extra 20mins an it kicked my butt

I took it easy today. All the swings were with the 15 pounder. I work out with the trainer tomorrow morning so didn't want to go too hard.

Oxymoronica, sorry to hear about your injury. Please take care of yourself.

Babyphat, we are well on our way! Great job!!!

twish 01-11-2012 04:28 AM

Everyone seems to be doing so well!

I don't think that I will be able to finish in 30 days, but I still want to get to 10,000 swings. I ended up getting sick (chronic illness), so I lost two days and then one of my dogs went missing, so I spent hours walking around a snowy park looking for her and yesterday recovering. I'll be back at my swings today, with renewed vigour!

BABYPHAT4ME 01-11-2012 06:48 PM

6915-530=6385
wow i recieved the kettleworx today so i did 20mins of that..i love it an i did my swings,

TWISH- dont worry if you dont finish in 30days as long as you keep going to reach your goal thats all that matters :-)

oxy- i hope everything is ok with you

BABYPHAT4ME 01-11-2012 10:02 PM

so ON nov14 when i started doing the jillian michael video i was only able to14 do girly pushup's, so i would skip that part on the video. 2 weeks later i started the 4500 kettlebell challenge i didnt test my pushup skills, nothing realy to test i new i cant do them for nothing.

tonight i decided i was going to see if i can do pushup since i have been kettling and was able to go up on weight with kettlebell

WELL I DID 12PUSHUP STRAIGHT AN DROPED AT THE LAST ONE....YEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

jenjen 01-11-2012 10:13 PM

Way to go Babyphat!! I can tell I'm gaining strength too. I worked out with the trainer this morning & she upped the weight on a couple of the exercises.

Twist, hope you get to feeling better.

I've seen the kettleworx commercial & have thought about ordering them.

Funny story. I went to a sporting goods store with a friend today and she asked what a kettlebell was. So, we went to the area and I grabbed one & was showing a one-handed swing. This guy standing nearby and starts telling us and demonstrating other moves I could do. I just said "yeah, I know. I'm doing 10,000 swings in a month." His jaw just dropped.

BABYPHAT4ME 01-11-2012 10:21 PM

i like the kettleworx video i found the 10lbs in target for 61.99 an it has 6 videos in it, i used my 20lbs with it though, an for the abs i used there 10lbs.

his draw has to drop when i tell ppl i am doing 10k there eyes get big lol, i mean who does that lololol
