Wfonseca - Mandalinn posted pics of the dolphin and I went to youtube to look at planks to make sure I got the other ones correct. The only one that I have to work more intensely on is the dolphin. Nothing to blink at. Welcome...it ain't for the weak hearted.

In the midst of my elliptical workout (40 minutes) I got in some planks. Halfway through I did a set of two strung together, then 10 minutes later I did another 2 together. Did girly pushups instead of traditional - have to work up to those. My arms are shaky! Want to get up to 6 in a row by Thanksgiving....

Okay so I took two days off doing the planks and OH EM GEE...Not the best idea I've ever had. It was hard to do one rotation yesterday. Lesson learned. NO DAYS OFF if I'm going to get to that 6 by Christmas.

Should you DO the planks every day? I thought strength training was recommended only every other day?

Sorry I haven't been posting! I've fallen a bit off the exercise wagon and am afraid I hit my head on the way down

My last Holy Cow Plank set was on Saturday after my run. I am still doing 3, although the pushups suffer along the way. I think I could do 1 more, but would have to move to girly pushups. This is my next step forward - 3 "regular" and 1 "modified" (feels better than saying girly pushups).

Tomorrow...that is the day.

As for how often, I would suggest taking at least 1 day off in between. Especially if you are really sore. If you aren't that sore, well...do MORE next time!!

I do these ~ 3x/week after cardio. I am definitely seeing improvement, although it is slow. I have also started incorporating additional arm workouts with free weights (8# hand weights, no big deal). I'm hoping that the added stress on my arms will help me to move foward to 6 of these bad boys by Thanksgiving.

Keep on planking, ladies!!

(BTW, anyone else have serious "rug burn" on their elbows from all the elbow planks/dolphins??? I have some really nasty spots that I am working hard at removing - not pretty.)

Going for a full 7 set.

And YES, my elbows were having that issue, until I started doing them on a yoga mat. Problem solved!

I don't have a mat, but I'll pull out a blanket to put on the floor. Had really sore elbows a few days before I figured that one out...

Up to three planks in a row with "modified" push-ups....gonna work up to 6 total then upgrade to "real" pushups....

Since I've been running, I haven't been doing as much upper body working out. So two days off for me is consider a backslide because I need to strengthen my abs. My arms are fine it's my midsection that is under pressure and I figure that's where my body is needs the most work. So I'm still working on getting through a full set. Hopefully today is the day.

TWO this morning. Ugh. I got distracted by my cute little 2-year-old coming down the stairs & pretty much just staring at me . She's a doll, and I couldn't resist her request for a hug vs. pushing on with those darn planks!!!

So, definitely not the "3 full + 1 modified" I had planned on. But I will endeavor to perservere (and get up earlier). The shorter days are KILLING ME. I haven't been able to get my rear out of bed for 2 weeks now. I need someone to come to my house & yell at me every morning to get up.

Way to go, Amanda! WOO HOO on getting through 7!!!

I moved it up 1 small notch yesterday: 3 full (although, my pushups were definitely waning by the 3rd set) + 1 more with modified pushup.

I was completely shaking by the 4th set, but I DID IT.

Will continue to push through with this for the next weeks & then add a 5th modified. Once I've achieved that, I'll make the 4th set a full + 5th modified, then follow the same plan to get to SIX!!!

Woo Hoo!! Making progress.

I'm going go give this routine to my PE teacher. We've been doing a lot of planks and she said we're going to get into routines soon, so I think this is right up her ally. That would be cool if my entire college PE class was doing holy cow planks, though there's no way we'd do 6 sets lol.

I would like to try this myself. Since doing planks in my PE class I've noticed a huge amount of strength in my core and my arms. This should be fun.
