This morning I did 5.26 miles with a few breaks to boogie because my husband had slipped some Disco music onto my MP3 player. Most stop and dance when Boogie Nights comes on -- it's a law or something!

I can walk for 20 min no problem. I walk fairly fast to the kids school 1km in under 10 min. I can feel my breathing but not winded or huffing & puffing. So maybe I will try it at home 1st feeling kinda insecure about just going out to the street trying infront of eyes. I know I know who cares what they think I am doing this for myself. But it is a tug of war over weak & confident feelings!

What's more important right now is just to get it done, so do it wherever YOU feel comfortable! Let us know how it goes!

I keep meaning to pop on here so I finally am. I signed up for a 5k in September to keep myself motivated on this running thing. For now I run on the treadmill for a couple of reasons - 1. So I don't have to figure out how far I've run, 2. At my weight now running outside hurts my knees but the treadmill doesn't, 3. I don't want my neighbors to see my hot sweaty mess of me trying to jog up hills!
I have one day of week 3 left and will then be onto week 4 of the C25k. I've actually been setting the goal on the treadmill to 3 miles. If at the end of the recommended intervals I still have something left in me I'll do a few extra intervals. If not I just walk the rest of the time. I know this isn't part of the program but I just feel I get a better workout this way. I sometimes feel I could move ahead a week but don't want to push it too fast so I make up for it by doing a bit extra at the recommended intervals.
Today is an off day of running and I'll probably do the bike or stairclimber tonight.
Happy day all!

Fat Chick B Gone, you really don't have to wait till September and you can sign up for the upcoming July1-6 Regatta (whatever Gary calls it) - any sort of activity is welcome. Even if you don't run or walk, you can log your exercise minutes. Or dogwalking distance/minutes.

I started with treadmill in February, walking at first and then I slowly progressed to jogging. Now I can jog for 35 minutes and during that time, I cover approximately 2.75 miles. So hopefully, by the next 5K run, I will be able to do the whole distance, 5 K=3.2 miles.

Thanks Tomato! I wanted to sign up for an "actual" race where I'll be running along side with others. I run/walk about 3-4 times a week now and do 3 miles at that time. Just want to increase to more of the running then the walking ;-)

Hi Ladies
I just signed up to the c25k last week, so i ma in week one.
I have a question, I am walking/jogging for 20 minutes and traveling about 1.5miles. I am doing this slow, I carry a bit of weight on me and dont want to knock anything out!!!
but what speed should I be jogging at? I can talk, might be a bit breathy and I am sweating buckets too!, I was thinking of leaving at this speed for a while before moving on?

Your speed sounds absolutely fine. Speed shouldn't even come into play during the c25k. If you can talk, but carrying a tune would be hard, you're perfect.

Here's a funny story about speed. Yesterday was my son's second day of camp. He is 6.5 years old. A bus comes to our home and picks him up.

I wanted to do an outside run but got caught up mapping my route and trying to program my HRM-- didn't leave as much time as I should have. But I figured I'd push myself a bit and be able to make it.

So, here's me pushing myself. I ran slow up the hill but tried to go faster down the hill (ususally I'm equally slow on the downside too). At the tail end of the run I saw a camp bus turn the corner near where I live. I was still about 3/4m away from the house. I tried to get back but started to actually slow down in the despair that I would not make it in time... bad mother...blahblah.

Then I scolded myself... do not give up.. you don't know that you missed it. Go Go Go. ANd so I did. As I approached the end I my block I saw all the way down to the other end, where our house is... the yellow bus. With the safety crossing bar still out!!

I started yelling.. wait don't go... and sprinting. really sprinting. here's where it gets movie style good. My son sees me and starts running towards me. Together we ran to meet the counselor at the bus door and I kissed him and told him to have a good day. She said... wow, you're a really fast runner ..hee. Then I almost threw up on my lawn with my sitter and three little guys watching. And my neighbor and his sons. But I was still smiling.

today I ran on the treadmill.

Hi Ladies,
I did my W2D2 today on the treadmill at the gym today. I'm really glad to be keeping up with this so far.
Josephine,
I know I'm trying to take it easy, but I get really excited too. How long have you been running?

I complted W1D2, but I have been doing week one for about 2 weeks now, yesterday was tough. I was tired form work, had a long day and didnt really want to do it, but it was on my schedule and I dragged my butt to the treadmill.
I put on some good music to pep me up and did the 30 minutes. I ran a bit faster today and it felt easier to run than when I run slower??!!
It is getting easier, but I am also feelign changes in my body, I feel my legs shrinking, i dont know if that is possible, but the reason I started this was that running slims donw the legs and i need to lose my thunder thighs!!!
Good job everybody else!

I did the c25k in early June of 2006. So not that long! I really never though I was cut out to be a runner. Before then I predominantly biked and sometimes walked. But in 2006 I started wanted to compete in triathlons, so I needed to learn how to run and swim pretty well.

This morning I ran 5.43 miles at 5:30 am and the humidity was unbelievable. Totally like soup!
