My sister hula hoops every morning for 1/2 hour while she watches the news. She has a very tiny waist and swears by the hula hoop.
Also a girl at work purchased a 5 pound hula hoop from a chinese store. She also hula hoops for 1/2 hour each day. Her waist is very tiny too.
I believe they work. Unfortuantely, even though when I was younger I could keep it going but not I can keep it up for only 3 rotations. I haven't tried it for a while. I think I'll look for it in the garage, dust it off, and start practicing again. Good luck and enjoy.
We have the heavy hula hoops at Curves, I can't do it to save me but there is a lady that comes in and hula hoops for 30 minutes before she goes through the circut. She says it really helps the waist and she makes it look so easy, she reads a magazine while hula hooping and never drops it. Amazing to me.

I do it, but not daily. A gal at Curves told me that if you do the Curves hoop just 5 minutes each time you're in there (3 days a week), you're supposed to lose 1 inch in your waist within 1 month.
Now I must hoop weird. Because I didn't lose anything in my waist. I lost 1 inch in my hips. LOL
I looked into this a while back, but I haven't purchased one just yet. After hearing of these tiny waisted women though, I'm thinking the Hulahoop will be my next fitness purchase. Here's a groovy site:
Hey that's a great idea! I think I will go get one this weekend! Not that I could do it if I had to ha... but when I was a kid I was good at it so could learn it again. It is "moving" and IMO that is a good thing!
UMMM I'm not very Hula Hoop savy. I can't seem to get my hips moving the right way.
I was at target tonight however, and while I was checking out the fitness DVDs I saw "The Girls Next Door" workout (which I think is a little silly) and it looks like they do some hula hooping in the workout.
I couldn't hoop either, UNTIL I started using the Curves hoop. Its weighted. You would think that weights would make it fall that much faster, but it actually helps to keep it sitting on your waist. If you can spring for a weighted one, you'll have better luck. I have a Wal*Mart special...that's a .98 cent piece of plastic with 3 grains of sand rolling around in it, held together with a sticker. I tried and tried and couldn't do it. But once I did the Curves hoop a couple of weeks, I tried my cheap hoop again and...I COULD DO IT! I just needed the weight to help me keep it up I guess and the time to train my hips to bob and weave the right way.
Do you move your hips kinda like belly dancing? Cause I can belly dance, but I used to try the hoop when I was a kid and never could get it down. Maybe I need to try a weighted one. Hmmmm..I wonder if Dunhams sell them. I'm really interested.
The hula hoops the kids play with don't give you nearly the Core workout the weighted ones do. Our Curves has 3 and 4 pound ones and you know you've done something if you just use them 5 minutes after you do the circuit.
I was going to call my Curves up the road to see if they are selling them but my dear son left the phone off the charger all night, grrrrrrrr...I'll call later, but I think this will be a fun alternative. I'm gonna try and do at least 10 to 15 minutes on the hula every time I workout.
I don't think I can post links but I typed in weighted hula hoops and found several places that sale them. They start at 1 lb hoops for 25$ on one site. So if you wanna try a weighed one google it and you should fine lots of places that sale them.
