Thanks, almostheaven! I didn't think mine came apart but to me it really doesn't matter as I like to keep right there ready to use and in sight LOL; otherwise I would never do it!

And Steelslady... LOL I am still trying but I can't really do either my regular hula hoop or the weighted one.... YET!! But I will, yes I will!

I bought a cheap hoop a month or so ago to try this, but I can't keep it up at all, I don't really want to buy a weighted one when I can't keep this one moving. I'll keep trying. It provides amusement for my husband though

Helen Glad you are entertaining your husband! I entertained my neighbors too when out in the yard trying it. I can't keep either one of mine up still either but actually the weighted one is a bit easier to keep up than the regular one. I don't seem to be getting any better at it! But I AM going to master these things!! I can do the smaller one in the house though, which helps; I am too nervous about breaking things with the larger one as my space is not very big to do it in.

I am thinking that once we get the "moves" down we will be able to keep going for longer; it is just a matter of mastering the technique... I hope!!

BTW, I do my hoop in the livingroom, then my 21 mo. old son picks it up around his waist, holds it and swings it from side to side while moving his hips. LOL

We got the hula hoops today! They are gorgeous.

My poor oldest daughter has bruises all around her stomach- I warned her not to do it for too long, but she did it for over an hour and a half total today.

You should have seen her go- it was unreal. She absolutely loves the hoop and couldn't get enough of it. Believe it or not, even up til last year, I always bought her one at Walmart (she's 15 and 1/2 now), because that is one of her favorite activities! You should have seen her- she sent it up from her waist to her neck, then back down. I was so jealous of her being able to just keep it up. She even walked around the room with it. It did take her about ten minutes, though, to get it going. She tried the smaller one I bought for my youngest daughter, but didn't care for that one, so she went back to the 3 pounder, and got the hang of it. Once she got going, she refused to quit.

I only the other hand, could only get it to go around a total of five time max. Most of the time it was either three times or once. My daughter was trying to coach me on how to do it, I swear I was doing it just like her, but she said I was moving my hips too fast. I did more squats today than I've ever done in my life. I did it for about 20 minutes and surprisingly, I have no bruises. I am a bit sore, though. I was sweating, too, so even if I didn't keep it going around, I got some decent exercise in.

Almostheaven that sounds soooooooooooooooooooooooo cute with your little boy doing the hula hoop with you!

Steelslady so glad you got your hoops and like them. Yikes about your daughter having bruises. I can't believe she can do it that long! Hey we will get there... ha!

Hmmmm I keep thinking I am not moving my hips fast enough but maybe it is too fast for me too. LOL there has to be SOME way to get these things going!

Too fast may be the problem Misti. I finally got back to Curves this morning, after my workout I grab the hula hoop again. Last week was not a fluke, LOL I was able to do it again, I kept it up for about 5 minutes. Then I noticed the time, I had to get my stretches and crunches in so I let it drop. But while I was doing it I noticed that it stayed up better when I kept a slow and steady pace, if it started to fall on my hips I would speed up but then slowing down to kept it up. Keep trying, I'm sure you get it.

Well so much for the "too fast" theory! I haven't been trying the heavy one much as I need to take it outside but have been practicing with the regular one and so far no luck. But I figure at least I am getting exercise picking it up off the floor!!! That is super that you have gotten the hang of it! Good for you!

Drats! She figured it out. You don't really think people lose weight just standing in place and shifting their hips from side-to-side do ya? Its all that bending up and down that does it.

Wow, cool thread! Sounds like everyone's having some fun. I'm very tempted to get myself a 5 pound weighted hula for some extra tummy toning and also a Hoopnotica hoop and their hoopdance DVD(s)! They sure make it look sexy, don't they?

Right now I do DDR (fun!) for my aerobic workout, but it would be great to mix it up with some other enjoyable routines that don't feel like exercise.

Thanks for the post and the links!

Hehe this thread inspired me to keep trying, I tried again last night much to hubbys amusement, and managed to keep it up a little longer, I really enjoyed myself but I'm no where near keeping it up properly yet. Its great fun though and I'm loving every minute of it.

Ha I am having fun with it too and I do think I will learn it and be able to keep it up and it will help!

Ethereal one thing to consider... from what I read on the site the 5 pound ones are mostly for men and the 4 pound for women. Not sure it makes that much difference and have no idea even which mine is since I got it at a yard sale. And I have no idea how strong you are so this comment is "just for what it's worth." But yes I do encourage you to get one. And I agree about the variety helping!! Since I have gotten so much "small" types of exercise equipment that I don't even have to leave home for (even though we have a nice fitness center here) my routines are more fun AND I end up doing them more since I can work in 15 minutes or so here and there at home.

My small one is a wave hoop too... I did not realize that when I bought it; I just wanted a regular one. But LOL since I can't do either that or the weighted one I guess I will just keep trying!! It is fun trying! Tomorrow I need to get the weighted one out in the yard and give it another try.
