Hello,

My WW leader orders hers from the following site. I just ordered one for me, but have not received it yet.

www.hoopdaloop.com

She swears by it.

Misti- you'd be proud of me! I kept it going for 11 seconds before it fell.

All of my kids can do it! Yesterday, I was jealous- my son's best friend had never hula hooped before, and got it going right away and kept it going for over ten minutes. My son got mad at him, because he couldn't get it going, but kept perservering and finally got it going. I kept trying last night, no go.

Just a few minutes ago, I tried again. Lo and behold, I got it going for 11 seconds! I did it a couple of more times for about that long, and I think I am getting the hang of it. It was so funny- I saw my reflection in the sliding glass doors and started laughing, which made me swing low and it started going around again and again.

My oldest daughter is an offical show off. She took both 3 pound hoops, the 1 pound hoop and the Walmart special hoop (heh heh) and had all four of them going at the same time. I think that's what gave me motivation to get that blasted thing going, if it killed me- seeing her do four hula hoops at the same time, while I couldn't get one up to stay. Both my daughters are loving it- they put on a TV show or fast music and hoop away- my oldest daughter did it for about a half of an hour and didn't realize she was still doing it. She went and ate something, came back and did it again for another half of an hour.

My youngest daughter is trying to keep up with her big sister, and get the hoop going from the waist up to the neck, but she keeps getting her hands and arms caught in the hoop, lmao. Bless her heart, she will figure it out.

I'll try again later to get it going. I am doing it in small increments, so I don't get frustrated and fling it across the room- those three pound hoops could do a lot of damage.

Haha, how cute Steelslady! So cool to see this has become a family activity.

Thanks for the tip, Misti - I'm so confused right now, though! One site linked earlier doesn't sell anything lighter than a 5lb (non-wavy) hoop large enough for adults, and Hoopdaloop sells 3lb hoops for men and 2lb hoops for women (and everyone else)! I'm not sure if maybe I should just buy a "man hoop" from Hoopdaloop and go with that?

If I get one from Hoopnotica for dancing I think they said theirs are only 1.5 lbs or something in that range, so I definitely wanted something heavier for stomach toning more than just aerobics to do regular hula hooping with, you know what I mean?

Does anyone else know what a good "heavy weight" one would be that wouldn't cause bruising (I hope)? 3 - 5 pounds?

if you go to this page, part way down is the "Great Weight Debate." The guy suggests sizes and wieghts that seem to work best.

Ethereal - for good toning, even with weights, unless you want to bulk up, most people suggest more reps at fewer pounds, that might apply to this too.

And now I want one... pay day is in 5 days

LOL Diva, I kind of feel the same way! Why did I buy this thing? But I still plan to use it and learn to do the small one too.

Remember too this is only one person's opinion. They do use them at Curves. And I know that heavy weights build bulk but I am not really convinced these are heavy enough to do that.

true, hadn't really thought about it that way, though I plan on making my own to start, there were instructions somewhere. And 3 of my friends want them too, because they all want to tone up. Here's "hooping" I can get a little work-out group with my friends going.

I wouldn't worry too much about bulking up. As ladies I don't believe we have enough of the right hormones (on our own) to really get buff, nor do most of us eat tons of protein and cut our carbs the way would-be-beefcakes do. Especially around the waist; even really strenuous exercises should only change the shape and tone muscle (if you've noticed, even disgustingly huge competitive body-builders with mile-wide shoulders have teeny tiny waists).

Thanks very much for the link! I read that one a week or so back and he brings up some good points. However he seems most interested in an "aerobic hoop" more than one meant to make your muscles ache - what I was hoping a weighted hoop would do. I'll definitely use a lighter hoop for aerobic purposes, that does sound best!

Guess I'll get the light-weight Hoopnotica hoop and play with that for awhile~

Got my hoop over the weekend and absolutely love, love, love it. I can actually hoop and did for 15 mins each Sat and Sun. Sides and ribs a bit tender, but I think it is really going to help.

Yay Annie!

I do have a question to all of you who can do this; What's the trick? LOL! I keep trying but I am actually getting more exercise bending over to pick it back up, LOL!

I think maybe, standing with one foot forward for balance and then using you entire body to keep it going.

I came across this thread last week and really enjoyed reading your experiences. My weighted hoop came in the mail today and trying it made me feel like a little girl again. (what fun!!!) Can't wait to get out of my work clothes and give it a whirl tonight.

Annie-love your avatar-we are about the same height and weight and my middle name is Anne. Congrats on the the 98 pounds lost so far. I know what you mean about race to 199, I don't like those numbers that start with a 2!!!

How's everyone doing? I am actually keeping it up a little longer each day I use it. I guess eventually I'll be worked up to that 10 minute s aday that I want. I feels wonderful when i can atually keep it up. I do have a horrible bruise on my left shin where it seems to hit every single time it falls to the floor. Ouchie!

Since my son can't figure out how to make it go around his waist, I've been showing him how to use it as a jumprope. There's another way you can get use from the hoop.
