I am doing my shopping for the people around here-almost done-will give it to them Thanksgiving. Mike called and said they were buying Alison a piano-did I want to chip in-so I did. Then he asked me about babysitting if Jill goes to work. I don't mind a little but we have plans for FL and it's not about working every day. Course she doesn't have the job yet. I do know that taking care of an 8 month old is tiring and he is high maintenace. I bet that's why she wants to work and I can't blame her. It's good to get out. We'll see. Right now I am exhausted=all I want to do is sleep. And then I was awake at 3:40. Today is the Fair and I'll be there all day but someone will be with me all day. So it will be fun and I can't do it next year because we will be in FL. We have a table at another Fair. Tammy, second grade was my favorite grade to teach. It was the grade I taught in 1960-my first year, Yikes, I am old, Maybe I'll get a nap before I leave this morning. Mima
Tammy- My daughter taught 2nd grade till this year. Now she is in 1st. My hubby was a 5th and 6 th grade teacher. Me ,I was a nurse..
Mima- I would be reluctant to take on a baby to watch. It limits your time too much..
I will go to my daughters monday. She has already planned for me to help in her classroom..
I hope all you guys have a Great Holiday...Joanne
Wow! Second grade sounds like a popular age with this group!! I also taught 5th, 7th, and 8th. LOL to 1960. I was starting Kindergarten that year. Oh my. The fair sounds like fun, but alot of work. Take it easy!
Joanne, I agree with you about a baby limiting your time too much. It would also wear me out!! I'm exhausted when I get home from school every day.
Hey! Maybe you could help out in my classroom sometime!!! A little bit of a drive though.
I can't believe this, I had a long message posted ... but the picture wasn't showing ... then I went back to see what was the matter and the message was gone! Oh well ... I'm NOT going to type all that again! I feel yucky ... raining here, they're putting my water heater in and have the water turned off and I can't do anything and I'm all outta sorts! Think I'll just go to bed!
I have had that happen to me, Meme. The Fair was fun and I didn't get uptight. We were 45 dollars short of last years profits but we made people happy. We have had this beautiful doll with a crocheted purple dress on a crocheted pillow-for a bed- and it was priced at $25 2 years ago-I said I just wanted to get rid of it and a little girl came with $3 and I gave it to her-it had been marked to $5. So it's not about the money. Then we gave some stuff to the Battered Women's group for their Christmas program when they let the women pick out gifts for their children. So if we had things for 2 years, we got rid of them and made people happy. And I wasn't bossy yesterday. That's what happens to me from being a teacher for so long. I refuse to sub but I love to tutor, tomorrow is my last time. These 2 elderly ladies volunteer all the time so we just visit. I am afraid to leave them alone if it gets busy but they are wonderful. Happy anniversary Candice!!!!I will set limits on the babysitting. I used to love taking care of Alison but I was 14 years younger and she stayed put because of the spina bifida. And my daughter used to help me. This one demands a lot of attention. Well, we will see. Have a nice Sunday. Mima
Hi. Sounds like everybody has been keeping busy. I have been away. Went to stay with my girlfriend that had the brain tumour removed. She is just doing wonderfully well. Hopefully, some of those terrible migraines that she had been having will be a lot less.
Mima - not long before you go, now. Next year are you going for the whole 6 months? I don't know about looking after a baby. That is really hard work, and if you have shoulder or neck pain, that can sure make it worse. They want to be carried around. It would be wonderful if you could just visit with them - lot's - and get to know him.
Candice - you are still not doing well. You said before, something about being bitten by a tick. Do you have a diagnosis of Lymes Disease? If not, there is a specific lab in the US that does a great job of finding out whether or not that is what is causing your problem. Then, you should go to a Lyme specialist and get the right treatment.
Joanne - You only gained 2 pounds from sitting around, so don't worry about it. You will lose those again once you get a little more active.
Meme - gosh, down and out for the count again today. Hope you start to feel better soon.
Tammy - Hi. I don't know you well, but I hope that you are able to continue teaching.
Well, gals, that's it for today. Too darn fatigued to type more.
Hi Anne-so happy about your friend. Brad and I prayed for her. Most people we pray for get better-the power of prayer!!! My stepgrandaughter is coming down in Feb-by herself but she went with me a few years ago so she is ok to fly alone-17. We watched 2 movies yesterday and relaxed. Have to get my oil changed this am-at walmart-Shop at the same time. Bye for now. Mima . feel better Meme.
Everyone must be cooking. Went shopping last night-only little turkeys and big turkeys so we bought a little ham in addition to a 12 lb turkey. Gotta make 2 pies today. Now the weather looks good to travel on Monday !!! Bye for now MIma
It's snowing but Igot some lights out before it beagan to get yucky! Over did on MOnday so resting now, just finished my cards now gotta get to the gifts.
I taught K-3 and preschool, love it too before I got my Firo stuff..too much for a teacher to do when you don't feel well. Keep it up Tammy as long as you can.
Hapy..I had a positive test and was treated by a DR. Masters in Missouri for several years (in the 90's )and then my body would not tolorate any more antibiotics so I had to stop. My liver got inflamed. My doc here says I never had it and that dr just took my money.....go figure he is nuts anyway! Glas your friend is doing well.
Mima..I was just saying the other day to my kids don't hurry on the babies cause I do not think I can help with them! They ar not in any hurry they say so that is good I guess.
I have a friend who sells Reliv, a vitamin /food supplement. I started on it in Sept. I am not feeling any different than I did before I started it. Has anyone ever heard of it? Deb keeps giving me articles to read that are written by people with Fibro., who say that they are painless and full of energy. She's also giving me things about carpal tunnel, that say that people actually cancelled their surgeries after being on the product. My CT is getting worse, and I'm scheduled for surgery on Jan. 20. She thinks that I should cancel and keep drinking the Reliv stuff.
I figure that I've been on it since Sept., I'm still taking medicine for the Fibro., I went for therapy for the carpal tunnel, and I'm not feeling any different. How do I tactfully tell her that I'm not going to continue using the product anymore without hurting her feelings? She teaches in the classroom right next to mine, so it's a tense subject here.
Happy, wonderful news about your friend!
Mima, I made deviled eggs this morning. Tomorrow I'll make a green bean casserole and brown some rolls to take to my aunt's house.
Candice, between the Fibro. and the carpal tunnel, this has been one tough year. It is so hard to grade papers when your arms are numb and you're exhausted. 2 1/2 more years until retirement. I hope I can make it.
Tammy ... just tell her that you've found over the years that medicine and vitamins that work for one person don't necessarily always work for another and since you've been taking it X amount of time and it hasn't worked for you thus far you can't afford to keep spending money on it. If she can't understand that she's pretty dense for a teacher. Have you tried Aleve? I have Fibro, Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis and Carpal Tunnel and coated Aleve is the only over-the-counter medicine that helps. I also take Darvocet. When's your birthday? I'll be 60 in 2 1/2 years.
We're having Thanksgiving dinner here Friday. It will be the first Thursday we haven't had dinner here since my dad died! Will certainly be different. I'm planning to do my baking and do some Christmas decorating. I'll put my Christmas village up and maybe some lights and bake my pumpkin pies. Then I'm going to hunker down on the couch in front of the TV with a blanket and some hot choc. on Thurs. night. CSI and Without A Trace are both new - I'll survive!!!!!!!
Good morning. My niece is 9 months pregnant and she has carpal tunnel really bad and is worrying about holding the baby. But doc thinks it might go away after pregnancy. Her mom had it too and had surgery. I had blood tests Tues and doc called and said I had hyperthyroid-my meds are too high so I ma to cut down. Maybe that's why I haven't been sleeping well and my stomache has been bad, Lots of IBS. I am upset because I wanted the test 3 months ago and it wasn't time-has to be a year. I lost 2 months sleep over it. And it's bad for osteoporosois, I have to be retested in FL. Brad has a little bug. I hope no one gets it. I did lots of cooking yesterday-2 pies-squash, stuffing!!! Only 2 kinds of potatoes today and oh yeah-the turkey!! Have good day everyone and a good day tomorrow, Meme. Mima
HAPPY THANKSGIVING everybody. Hope you all have a great day. I could sure use some turkey and the works, but I guess I will have to wait until Christmas. I am glad our Thanksgiving is in October. Yours just starts off the Christmas rush and ends after New Years. That's a looooooong dinner
Tammy - just tell your friend your tried it, you don't feel any different and you don't feel like you want to continue. Sometimes with vitamins and herbal meds., it takes up to 6 months to help. If you don't take a multi-vitamin, it sure won't hurt you, that is for sure.
Mima - hope Brad feels better. Hyperthyroid (over-active thyroid). My daughter had Graves Disease and she lost 50 pounds right smartly. Her heart was beating at 150 beats a minute when she was resting. EVERYTHING is speeded up, including the bowel. So, the IBS, may not have been that at all. Hope you get on some sort of med. She had to drink a radioactive stuff to kill off the thyroid. That worked and now she has to be on Synthroid for the rest of her life.
It was hard for me to hold my grandbabies with the carpel tunnel. I had to modify the way I held them. I kept 2 of them for a total of 5 years during the day. Ross 'till 3 yr. old and Jenna 'till 2 1/2. Feeding was the hardest. Holding them in your left arm ... the way you crook your wrist around ... you just have to learn to modify the way you do it. Isn't easy but doable. I had to wear the braces a lot ... a pain since you have your hands in water so much. Tell her wrapping them tight in receiving blankets really helps when they are newborns and laying a thicker blanket in your arm to lay them ON while feeding helps to ... that way you don't have to crook your arm and wrist so tight. She'll learn a lot of little tricks like that. Like burping them face down on your knee instead of on your shoulder where you have to hold them with your hands. And 'scotching' your elbow on a high chair arm, then straightening your arm and wrist out on the arm while the baby is taking it's bottle or sleeping. You can still hold the baby but not have to crook your wrist to do it.
I'm putting up my Christmas village. Then on to baking pumpkin pies for tomorrow. Hope you are all having a swell Thanksgiving Day!!! Anne, wish I could send you some of my Turkey tomorrow ... 22lbs!
