Hi everyone. Hope you are all feeling better today as the day progresses.
Joanne - when did you hurt your knee. That surely does interfer with walking. I wouldn't become obsessed over a couple of pounds. So what if the scale is different. It really doesn't matter, could be fluid, or from the meds we take. It will leave again. The main thing is that you fight with the candy and win. I sent all the left over stuff (except for a few little boxes of glossett raisins and peanuts, and peanut butter cups for my little grand daughter). I won't be tempted to eat them, because they are for her. I sent all the rest to work with my hubby. They can eat them, and saves me thinking about them and hearing them call my name
Mima - hope your dinner goes well today. Is you back feeling better again, or is it still giving you trouble.
Meme - Sorry to hear about your uncle. It is sad that families only meet at funerals and weddings anymore. We try to have a family reunion on my Moms side, every year, so we do get to see most everyone at least once a year. Keep up the good work on the diet.
Ally - Boyfriend? Did I miss something. Good for you. Hope your boys are being nice to you; They care, but they are teenagers. Just think back - way back!! and remember how you were. That sometimes helps.
Hi Candice. Hope the arm is getting less painful.
I started back on my diet The Formula yesterday, and am now into day 2. I am always amazed at how fast the cravings for carbs leave when I get on this. This morning for breakfast, I had 2 oz. Canadian back bacon; 1 egg and 1 egg white, 1 grapefruit and a small tomato. For lunch, I will have 3/4 c cottage cheese with strawberries and kiwi and nuts. For supper, I am going to make chili, without the beans for me. This is probably one of the best chilis I have ever eaten. I don't miss the beans, because they really set off IBS. I love them, but they sure don't love me. Wish me luck.
Happy...What is your beanless chili recipe? I LOVE chili and make it several times a month with ground turkey.
Boyfriends (blush)...... I am still only in flirtation mode. But it has opened Pandora's box. Now I THINK about relationships (and sex) 24 hours a day. But because I am 45 any relationship that crosses my path has its own set of bags and baggage, and in BOTH of my flirting cases...that means little kids and wives who wanted out of their marriage. So I have guys who want someone to help raise their kids, but they also have a little bit of a bug up their butts about women.
Joanne...You still have candy in the house? Oh, I had to make my kids eat it up cause I would let that taunt me all night long til I ate it. It is so much easier if it is just not here...
Mima... Carbs. Yes. I think it is instinctive (Darwinian) to want to eat more when winter comes. Your body knows it needs that layer of fat to survive. I could make it thru a few winters without a problem
Alley..I use ground turkey in my chili too! Beanless chili.never heard of it...but would like the recipe too! Men...that's al I'm gonna say!
Happy..good article, I printed it out and please give us your recipe fot he beanless chili!
Joanne..I keep the snack size bags of candy in the freezer and eat for a quick treat if I want one but you have to limit yourself and not eat the whole bag like some people do!
Mima..I crave carbs at nigth but find if I leave room for a late night sack I don't have a problem, I eat popcorn or Pirates' booty or soy pretzels, or Wow chips, or cinnamom toast, mellba toast and cheese spread (low fat). Now I'm hungry! (just not all at once!)
Meme.......I'm sure it is the portion size and you do not mix any milk in so it is just the pudding and yes you can use vanilla too! My DH eats what I do when he is home but I can't control what he eats when he is at work so he is gaining!I lost another pound so I am 4 under goal!
The arm still hurts and has a lump where it is inflamed! I didn't do anything either! one week of therapy left and then back to the doc! Hurts to bend it now..this thing is weird..........
My dinner went very well-only problem is lack of room-I really have a small condo and we put the table out to seat 8.But it went well-Spaghetti was so good including the turkey sausage and my friend's 14 year old son made an apple pie-he loves to bake. I slept til 6-must have been the 2 glasses of wine!!!Still have dishes to do. Joanne-I weigh 2 lbs more at WW but it's the clothes and the am weigh in I do at home. I wear the same thing every time I weigh in.If I weghed in tomorrow-uh oh!!!My back is better because I swam. I will walk today .Have a great day everyone. We should have a Florida confrence this winter!!Bye Mima
Candice....Good for you. 4 lbs under. Now that is something to celebrate.
Men...what am I thinking? I will say this...I weigh less when I have a man in my world.
Last nite I found an opened bag of chocolate chips in the cupboard and they called to me all nite. Then I ate half and felt totally nauseous. If there were a man on my couch, I would act like I never, ever eat.
Mima.......I can't sleep late either. Ever since I had kids I wake up and have to get up.
Hi-Joanne, glad you were spared the hurricane. Ally-I'm 63 and still would like a man around a bit but I am not good at choosing-the ones that like me are usually not healthy for me. But I have been feeling really down-my younger 2 are still single so they don't have time for mom-my older son is 1500 miles away and he is the one that includes me in so many family outings when I am there-no wonder I yearn to be there. I need to get a life!!!Good thing I am working this week. And I overate all weekend. Gotta walk this morning and go to WW this afternoon. We might have snow showers here. I stayed up and watched the world series so I am a bit tired today. have a great day everyone.Candice-feel better. Hope you are well Meme. Hi Happy!!!see ya !Mima
1/2 pound chicken breast, cubed
1 pound extra-lean ground beef or chopped sirloin
3 stalks celery, chopped
1 cup chopped red or green peppers
1 cup chopped onion
11/2 cup chopped mushrooms
1/2 cup minced fresh parsley
28 ounce can crushed tomatoes with juice
15 ounce can tomato sauce
6 ounce can tomato paste
6 ounce can water
1 package (11/2ox) of chili seasoning mix
Brown chicken and beef in a large pan. Add celery, peppers, onions, mushrooms and parsley. Cook until vegetable begin to soften. Add chili seasoning mix, tomatoes, tomato suace, tomato paste, and water. Mix well and simmer for at least an hour. If you like your chili spicy, add 1/2 to 1 teasoon crushed red pepper flakes.
I don't use a chili seasoning mix. I use chili to taste and a drop or two of Tabassco sauce. Also, because my hubby doesn't like peppers, I omit them. I use parsley if I have it. I don't see why you couldn't use ground turkey or chicken if you prefer. I prefer ground beef myself.
This is a nice rich chili. On the diet I am on, I just eat 11/2 cups of chili and a lettuce salad. Have an apple or some other fruit for dessert.
Also, I very much like this recipe, because the beans are omitted and they always cause such distress in the old stomach. I love beans, but they sure don't like me. With this recipe I don't miss them at all.
Now, I hope everyone is well. We had snow this morning so of course the ground is now white. The sun is out and the temp. is now around 42 above so it should melt some. Hmmm, just checked outside and it is snowing again. Thought it had stopped. Maybe it won't melt today. Yesterday, it was 70 above here and the day was awsome. Went for a couple mile walk at the lake. The lake was like a mirror and there was somebody out in the boat with a waterskier (brr) That lake is cold now, as it gets to about 12 above at night. Kids were sure having fun yesterday, puddling in the water. I am sure their mothers will not be happy, as they were full of sandy, mucky, stuff.(lol)
Well, I am on day 4 of my diet and it is going good. Pants are already getting loser so that is a plus. I am feeling better again, now that I have cut out most of the starchy carbs and just eating fruit, veggies and meat. I am near as bloated. I love, pasta, beans, rice, bread etc., but because of the Glycemic scale they are to high. Can have barley, and that isn't so worse.
Hi guys...I'm back! What a trip. Got over there (North Carolina) Saturday evening and they told hubby they wanted him to be a pallbearer...he said OK. Then, Sunday, when they found out my son was coming, they asked me if he would also be a pallbearer and if we would sing! I called my son via cell phone and he said he'd try (he was really close to Uncle Ralph...it's so hard to sing at a loved one's funeral) so we had to sing 2 songs, then I had to play as they took the casket out and then rush to the car (as it was in line) because the guys had to go before the hearst as they were both pallbears. We then went to the cemetery (which was on top of a mountain) then my aunt and uncle and a bunch of cousins went to Western Sizzling steak house to eat. I then had to go back to my aunts, then to the Nursing Home to see another Uncle and Aunt they had just put in there in a room together...neither one can walk. Then we headed back home (a 4 hr. drive). Jim (my son) wanted to stop & eat so we followed him off the interstate and, of all places, he went to McDONALDS! And me trying to do WW!!! I've had a really rough 3 days, believe me! It has been a real challenge to stay on WW while eating every meal out for 3 days...but...guess what? I DID IT!!! I banked a whopping TWENTY THREE points last week and lost FOUR pounds. I still can't believe I had the will power. I only got in trouble one time. My aunt knew I was coming and made a banana pudding JUST FOR ME...I've always loved the way she makes it! So I HAD to eat some of it. I was sneaky, though. Hubby and my cousins hubby both wanted some and I was dishing it out so I took them both out quite a bit (more than I normally would have..especially for my cousin's hubby) then...while my aunt had her back turned...I got out only 2 TBS for me and spread it out in my bowl so it looked like a had more than I did...then I went and sat on the other side of the room from her and ate it really slow...she never did know the difference and I got by light! WHEW...it's hard work...not eating!
My muscles are SCREAMING at me right now...I've been on an adrenaline high ever since last Friday and almost as soon as I got in the car headed home I felt myself coming down. I told hubby...I've been going on nerves for over 3 days now...time to crash! I thought I was going to have tomorrow off but my mom called and she has a dentist appointment at 10:30 tomorrow so I'll have to take her. Hopefully I will be able to come straight home and lay down tomorrow afternoon!
I've read all the posts but I'm too tired to comment on all of them...hope you all are doing great and losing weight...sounds like Candice is...she's going to blow away one of these days!
Congrats to you Meme. You can have a taste of foods that are not worth the pts. I went to WW last night and we have a new slogan WP-When you come across a high pt. food ask yourself if it's Worth The Points!I gained a lb bit I didn't do progarm for 4 days -I'm under 1 anyways-but today I had 2 pt. plain oatmeal.I slept 8 !/2 hors last night-feels great. I'm going to work 3 hrs today and 11 on Wed and 11 more on Thurs but then the job is over. And I get to see my friends. My son told me I was getting into other people's business so I guess I need to work.Meme, if I e-mail you a picture of my Floridian grandaughter-would you post it? Thanks.I was at Sam's and they were giving out samples of a chicken pie-18 grams of fat. Happy-I can't eat beans either but a little with Beano and Gas X after. Or peppers and onions.!!See you guys-great day everyone. Mima
Happy- That Chili sounds really good. I am going to have to try it. Beans do not agree with me either. But, I do love them. When I was a teenager and really skinny, I used to take lima bean /northern beans ,spread them over bread and injoy! No more.
Memetoo- Good for you. I never paid much attention to my banked pts. Maybe I should. I will try out anything right now. I am 1 pound under but trying to get less.
Mima- Don't you just love it when our kids tell us we are getting into other peoples business. It always makes me feel that they are saying "butt out mom". I read a piece in Ann Landers today that pretty much said that our grown kids are trying to find ways to let us know that they want to do it on their own. I guess we can find a life for ourselves at last and let them live theirs. But sometimes I wonder how do we shut down being "mom".My hubby thinks we are suppose to guide forever. I don't think our grown/Middleaged kids think that way.
We are having some really nice weather for a change. We need rain here though. Being close to the Gulf we don't get much unless it comes from the Gulf here in Tarpon.
Hello to all you nice people...Bye Joanne
The weather here is beautiful, too. The leaves have almost all fallen off, the sun is shinning bright and it is 70 degrees out. I love this time of year when it is like this!!!
Joanne, I have never bothered in my kids business. Even when they lived at home. As long as they let me know where they were so I didn't worry about them I let them be. I was soooo happy when they both found someone else to love and moved into a home of their own. I've told them over and over that I love them and that I'm here for them but I'm not going to bother in their business. If they want my advise they can ask for it...otherwise, they'll just have to make their own mistakes and learn from them just like I did...that's part of life. I never worry about my kids and their kids unless they are traveling or sick. I have enough of my own problems to worry about! My mom lives on one side of me and SHE is enough to worry about all by herself! Then hubby's parents live on the other side with just a wooded area between. My son and family live across the road from them and my daughter lives on the other side of my Mom. I see my in-laws on Sunday at church and my son about once every week or two...even though we are close, we don't meddle in each other's business! (except my mom! she's a pain in the butt) I've made that a RULE in our family...live and let live and worry about the trash in your own yard so to speak. And PEACE at any cost!!! I never did allow my kids to fight. Oh, they fussed among themselves some when they were small but if it started to get out of hand I just reminded them that they were breaking the PEACE law and if they couldn't get along they had to play in separate rooms. They get along famously now...we pretty much live in harmony. My daughter-in-law didn't want to go along with this "law" when she first joined the family. She caused some problems at first, but we finally got her on board! There is enough stress out in the world without having more at home!!!
Mima...boy you are right about chalking up the points on worthless foods. You can really do that in a hurry. I couldn't believe how many points MAYONNAISE on a fast food sandwich was! I've never really cared for SubWay but I told hubby last weekend looks like I'm going to have to take another look and LEARN to like them if we eat out very much! One Whopper and fries is almost all my daily allowed points!!! (And that is my mom's favorite place to eat!)
This is a picture of Mima's granddaughter...isn't she pretty?
Meme-thanks for putting up Alison's picture. I am in a state of anxiety because I ran a red light and hit a car-I actually did not see the light-it was overhead-I am ok but fibros get stiff easily-the othe car was only scrated and had a denteds tire- my rather new car has a crumpled bumper and dented hood. How many times have I escaped an accident because I was distracted but this time did not!!!!The young lady was really nice about it. My sister-in law is working with me so she is picking me up today. Gotta go she's picking me up at 6:15. Hi to you all. My friend is being operated on today because she has lung cancer. I'll take the accident. Mima
Mima- What a cute little girl!! I like the hot tub too.. Eish I had one. Thank Goodness you weren't hurt.
I went to the Dr. today. I am back on celabrex. Off the Zocor for awhile. Here goes the weight. Never fails with me. Change the meds and up goes the wt.
Meme- I know what you mean about mothers and mother-in-laws. I had more than my share of both.
Hello to Candice, Ally and Happy. Joanne
Good morning. I worked 11 hours yesterday and it was good-easy-will help pay my deductible on my car insurance and I get to work with my sister-in-law who is like a sister to me. Hi to all-gotta get ready because she's picking me up at 6:15. Good news-My son got Alison a racing wheelchair on ebay. Mima
