Scale is 179 this morning.

I posted last night but I guess I didn't save it. We went to Rodneys and I had eggplant Parm with spaghetti. It was too much carb and I felt terrible after eating it. I will have to remember how it made me feel so I dont order it again. I should have ordered wings.I eat less when I get wings.

Afterwards we went to Wal-Mart and I had potty issues so the spaghetti was gone! I was fine after that.

Trish, you should look up your meds and see if they have to be taken with or without food. Many don't require food. I take a couple at bedtime and I don't eat. I remember when I ate 1 egg at bedtime and my FBG was much lower. An egg is low calorie but contains both protein and fat. I have heard that a piece of cheese can also be good for the same reason but no carb with it. I might change my gout med to bedtime as it says it makes you drowsy. I have changed it to 3 times a week. If I get pain I will go back to daily but if not I will ask the doctor to lower my dose. I've heard it can damage the liver, which many meds do.

I bought some Melatonin for sleep but haven't taken it yet. I'm afraid to. I got 1 mg and can double it but I think 1 mg will be enough. I want to be able to wake up without being groggy. Nothing else is working right now and I'm not sleeping as well as I used to. I wish I could get my afternoon nap again. That made a big difference for me. I. Don't understand why it stopped. I never napped after I had my valve replaced.

I pray that your tumor continues to shrink. Can they not remove it surgically? I really don't know much about it. I'm sure they are following the best protocol and you are eating to starve it. And you pray. That is a big factor. I see you as being around for a long time.

pattygirl63 06-08-2024 03:08 PM

Carol Sue I'm not sure why they didn't remove it when they removed the ovaries unless they just didn't see it. There are words they use I don't understand. I wonder if they could kill it with radiation, but I really don't want to have radiation if I don't have to. If I can learn to eat so I can starve it then I figure that would keep any others from forming and growing. I'm still trying to eat a low carb woe, but may find I have to do carnivore; I just have to try and see. I was losing good on carnivore the few days I did it but like everything else we do, most of those numbers came back when I started eating keto. I would like for the weight loss I experience to be real weight loss.

I sleep very well right now. I go to bed usually between midnight and 1 am and sleep until about 8:30 am except for the few times I wake up to go to the bathroom. However, I find that as soon as I get back in bed that I fall right back to sleep. I wake up around 8:30 am ready to get up. I consider that good. I get sleepy in the afternoon but that is usually about the time that I do my exercises so don't always get a nap. However, I do find that I fall asleep sometimes after dinner but it only seems to last maybe 15 to 20 minutes. They say that is good for you so I guess I'm doing good.

Weight was up to 155.2 this morning which is no surprise after an carby meal at dinner. FBG was 112 which was better than the 118 yesterday and bp is very good. I'm hearing more and more of these doctors saying that carbs are the problem with our weight and health. Dr. Cywess says pretty much the same thing I read recently that what we call fat on our body isn't fat at all, it is sugar on our body and carbs are instant sugar. However, one doc I read said don't throw out all carbs because vegetables are carbs. Just be sure to eat the right carbs.

I'm attempting to get back to my 2MAD with a snack allowed as needed, but making the snack very small to take the edge off as needed. I would love to get back to my 5 to 6 eating window with a 18 to 19 hr fast each day. I mainly want my FBG back below 100, but prefer below 90. I bought some herb teas that I read are very healthy for me and some fight cancer. I got green tea, oolong tea and chamomile tea and drink that in the evening because the curb my appetite and I don't need sweetener in it. I drink 2 c coffee in the morning with allulose and the rest of the day unsweetened teas. I got DH Earl Grey tea because he likes it.

I'm going to try eating the way I am right now for 21 days to make it a lifestyle and see how I do. It is good for me to have goals to work towards. Lowered my carbs to 60 g on MFP because you can't be more precise using their way of percentages, but will try to keep them under 40 to 50 grams. Today the plan is 35 total carbs, not counting net carbs any more.

Chicken wings sound goods. I might plan those on the menu for one day this week. DH is cooking steaks today and I may cook wings or liver tomorrow. Dr. Berry thinks liver has a lot of nutrients we need to be healthy. I like calf liver better but could only get beef. I hope it will be good. We will have it one day this week too plus I think DH is ready for a beef roast again so that will be on the menu one day too.

Have a blessed day and weekend.

Wannabehealthy 06-08-2024 05:14 PM

Trish, when my friend had colon cancer she had chemo and radiation combined. She had a lot of discomfort from the radiation. She has had no reacurrance but she is having constant diarrhea now and I don't know if its a result of her colon cancer treatment. When I told her that magnesium can cause diarrhea she did not respond. I dont know if she had the diarrhea before she started taking magnesium or what type she took.

I think you are doing very well figuring out how to eat in the best way for you. I am unable to do that. I am being resistant to change even though I know what I'm doing wrong. I was done eating at 3:30 as far as calories are concerned. 1281. 80 carbs. DH brought a rotisserie chicken which I love but I only ate a little bit. I am full. I will wrap up the rest because I dont want to eat anymore today. I want to go to bed with an empty stomach. Thats what worked for me in the past. I want to get back to the way I was before. At my best, was when I was not eating dinner at all. I cannot do that now with DH,but I can get back to eating a very small dinner. That will be my best choice. If we eat out I can bring food home and eat it the next day. I have tried other things and they didn't work for me.

I have so many different teas but I got away from drinking tea. I do like it, hot or cold. I just don't take the time to make it. I have sleepy time tea that induces sleep. I think it is chamomile. Maybe if I get back to my old way of eating I will get back to napping. When DH was in the hospital for 3 weeks, I ate eggs before going to the hospital. At the hospital,I ate his lunch, or part of it. He never ate much. At home I didn't eat dinner. I lost 15 lbs and my incontinence went away. He lost 28 lbs while in the hospital. He ate very little of his food. He isn't eating much now either but I told you he's losing weight. But dinner is the most important meal to him. And the least important to me. Back when I worked,my thinking was I needed to eat during the day when I was working and active but didn't need to eat when relaxing at home. I was doing IF before I knew what it was.

So I have changes to make and I am the only one who can make them. No one else can do it for me. I have to want it bad enough to do it!

pattygirl63 06-08-2024 07:20 PM

Carol Sue We are both feeling pretty much the same about our woe. As far as I know I am through eating for today but if I do need a snack I will eat it in time to stay within 8 hr eating window. At this point, I have a 6 hr eating window. I am trying to get back to eating low carb the way I did before I got sick.

I read up on some of my supplements that I've decided to stop taking because they could cause some of the problems I have or may interfere with my treatments and I read up on the side affects of statins and learned some interesting information. I had read that it can interfere with cancer treatment and the doctor had told me to ask my oncologist about taking it and he had okayed it. However the doctor who prescribed it and my Primary had told me if I couldn't take it then I couldn't take it. There are a lot of problems I experienced that could be caused by it such as headaches and dizziness that I seem to get only when I take it as well as some others. But the big thing is my platelets. They need to be higher for me to take my treatments but I just can't seem to get them up. They were coming up a little for a while, but suddenly they stopped coming up and I just cannot get them up in the normal range. So I think I need to stay off of the statin for a while and see if they come up when I have my blood draw in July.

pattygirl63 06-09-2024 01:55 PM

Weight inching up. Looks like I need to do more of a carnivore or ketovore woe. Weight up to 156.4 and FBG 117. I have no plan or losing ground. I read my report that oncologist wrote about my history. I've lost about 60 lbs when this happened and I'm not going to gain that weight back. DH was listening to a Dr. when I went to bed that I had heard of and he was telling how to get rid of cancer. I've got to look him up. I've read about what he is talking about but he obvious is telling how to work in sync with those 2 situations to starve out cancers. I want to hear what he has to say about it.

Carol Sue hope you are doing well. We haven't heard from Fatmad in so long. I do hope she is doing well.

Have a great day everybody.

Wannabehealthy 06-09-2024 02:11 PM

Once again,I thought I posted today but its not here.

Scale was 179again even thought I took the Lasix, half pill.

Trish, statins are very controversial. I've heard that you don't need them unless you've had heart problems. I don't know how your stroke figures in because I dont know what caused it.. I don't take the full dose of mine. My doctor doesn't know, but he is relatively satisfied with my cholesteral. My PCP wants me to switch to a different one but I refused. I don't understand why he wants me to change or which one he wants me to take. I figure if I'm not having side effects why change to one that might cause different problems. I go to see him at the end of the month so I dont know if he will suggest this again or not. I will refuse again.

I hope you are able to raise your platelets. Im sure you have read everything you can on how to raise them. Pay attention also to what they say lowers them. There may be something you can change.

Wannabehealthy 06-10-2024 08:57 AM

I ended up not taking the Lasix yesterday. I thought we were going out but we didnt. The scale is up 1 lb to 180 even though I feel thin, not bloated. It was 179 the past few days when I was taking the half Lasix. Not much difference. I had leg cramps in both legs during the night even though I didn't take Lasix. I have to remember to ask the doctor about that.

We did go out for an hour. We went to the local casino but not to gamble. They are having a giveaway of garage tools every Sunday in June. We got postcards in the mail. It was so crowded it was hard to park. The item this week was an air compressor. We each got one. DH doesnt need it but someone will. The only thing DH wants is a seat with wheels that you use while working on the car,but we don't know what tool they give away on which Sunday until we get there. The other items are a spotlight and a set of hand tools. He doesn't want them but will take them and someone will want them.

Today is the day we goto Walmart and Goodwill senior day. Step son called and said he needs a big soup pot. I have the one I bought last week. I compared it to the one I already have and decided to keep my original one and give him the one from Goodwill. It is stainless steel like mine but doesn't have a lid. He said he doesn't need a lid. He is probably going to use it for canning once he harvests his garden. Now I will watch for another one there. This is why I buy these things when I see them even if I dont need them. Someone can always use them.

DH just asked me if I wanted to go for breakfast and I said I didn't care, then he walked out the door. He must be going to McDonalds. I heard that McDonalds is getting rid of the Big Mac and the Quarterpounder. I guess they will come out with something new. DH always gets a Double Cheeseburger. I don't like their hamburgers. I don't like any fast food hamburgers. I only like home made. I like chicken sandwiches. They also got rid of free refills on soft drinks,if you eat inside. It used to be self serve but they took it out. I guess that saves them a lot of money.

Guess I will go get dressed to be ready to leave when he wants to.

DH found Dr. Seyfried who is very popular with the keto people. Funny thing is that I read an article online that was against him. Then DH wanted me to watch him last night. He and Dr Hyman were talking sharing the importance of keto for fighting cancer. Quite informative. I'm really glad I read the article 1st because I was able to hear what Dr. Seyfried actually says and he does not say that keto will cure cancer by itself. In fact, he doesn't even say that keto will cure cancer with treatment because they don't know. He knows how things work with his research with mice but not with humans because there haven't been any.

I was interested in what Dr. Hyman had to say because he was the doctor our church in SC followed to do the Daniel Diet and I stupidly got off my Atkins diet to do it with them. It was a very carby diet. Evidently he learned by experience that the diet he pushed back then was not healthy because he has had cancer twice himself. Knowing that made it easier for me to listen to these 2 doctors and compare what I've heard from all these others that do carnivore/keto. The big thing I've come away with in all of this research is that if I want to be cancer free and never have it again I MUST stop eating sugar and starchy carbs. Although Dr. Seyfried suggests keto diet, he says you can do it regardless of what diet you follow just do something.

They suggest using a keto monitor which I do have, but never really understood how to use it. He said when you check your glucose in the morning to also use the keto monitor and take it with the same blood stick. He says you can learn what you can eat and stay in ketosis. He says water fasting is the fastest way to get into ketosis, but you could start by eating carnivore to get into ketosis. That is what I plan today. I checked my FBG and Ketones at the same time from the same stick. Oh he also says glutamine is also causes problems for cancer but there isn't anything you can do in your eating to deal with it because our body makes it and needs some of it. So I don't know if this will work for me because it does for some and not all but I have nothing to lose by doing it. I'll start back on carnivore and work toward a stricter keto. I started back on full swing of exercises today. I won't work toward heavy exercise but just a consistent use of certain ones that I think are important for my situation.

Weight was the same and FBG still over 100 but carnivore will bring it down. We are having liver today and I've got some grass-fed ground beef out to make myself a bunless cheese burg this evening so I can work toward getting off of most carbs.

Carol Sue I hope you can find another soup pot if you want it. Have fun shopping.

Have a good day everyone.

Wannabehealthy 06-10-2024 01:13 PM

Trish,as much time as I've spent in Keto websites and message boards I have never heard of Dr Seyfried. I looked him up and he doesn't look familiar. I know Dr Hyman and like him. Im glad you are getting good information from him.

There was a doctor in Pittsburgh who was a chiropractor who followed holistic treatment. I went to him once for. psoriasis. He had information you could request on how to eat to treat cancer.. I tried to get my nephew to send for it but he would not. He said he was going to do what his doctor told him. But he ate a lot of sweets which I never thought was good. That doctor was murdered a few years ago but I think his practice is still open, run by his associates. His death was never solved. DH and I think he found a cure for cancer or was saying he did, and he was murdered because of that. I won't go into the details on this public board. Some day I wiould like to request that cancer food protocol he had.

I like the soup pot that I have had for years. I bought that one at Goodwill because it was very good quality in like new condition. I couldn't pass it up. I thought it was smaller than mine but it was the same. It just didn't have a lid.

I used to buy liver and cook it for myself but I haven't done that for awhile. I like it and know that it has nutrients we need. DH used to eat it, and the kids did, too,but they don't anymore. DH will eat chicken livers. I like them, too. I think this new woe is going to be very beneficial to you.

Wannabehealthy 06-11-2024 11:00 AM

Scale is up to 181. 😟 But sleep was great! Best in a very long time.

I took Lasix this morning and its working. I think I need to cut back on caffiene. I had too much this morning. Now I've switched to water.

So far I had breakfast of eggs, toast and tomato slices. I like that. Then I had half of a hot dog for lunch. DH cooked 2 and offered me one. I should not have eaten it. I just can't get under control for some reason. I'm over eating and can't seem to stop. I don't know if DH will want dinner since he ate those hot dogs so late. I hope not. He's out in the kitchen again. I wonder what he's cooking now! He eats often, but not a lot at one time. He might be cooking fried potatoes, his favorite.

pattygirl63 06-11-2024 07:45 PM

I've been gaining weight too as it was 157 lbs this morning. Dr. Westman says it isn't unusual to gain at first. I've decided to follow Dr. Westman's Prescription Keto as he calls it. I like his plan because the only thing I have to do is keep total carbs under 20 g and keep my protein up where it should be, but not to worry about eating high fat. He said you don't want to eat a lot of fat because you want to use the fat off your body first. It is very difficult for me to get the fat above the protein and this way I don't have to, plus eating more fat just may be why my weight is going up instead of down.

I did check my ketones on my ketone monitor the past 2 days and it was 1.0 both days and normal is .5 to 3. So I guess I am in ketosis. However, Dr. Westman says you don't have to check ketones if you are keeping your carbs at under 20 g.

Carol Sue I'm glad your sleep was better.

Have a good evening.

Wannabehealthy 06-11-2024 08:37 PM

I bought a ketone meter but never I used it. The strips are probably expired. I doubt if I've ever been in ketosis. I bought it because everyone else was buying them and I didn't want to be left out. Silly. I had the pee strips too but they expired.
______
This morning the scale was 180. And I took Lasix yesterday. But I took it early in the day and probably regained all my fluid in the evening. I did drink a lot of water and didn't go to the bathroom much during the night. But I've still been overeating and can't blame this on Lasix or water or anything else. I'm eating more than my body needs. Period.

By the way,I've received 2 postcards from WW trying to get me to come back. Its been years since I went to We and I would not go back. I did my own thing and just used them for accountability. Have you received any? They are offering weight loss meds now.I don't think there are meetings anymore.
.

pattygirl63 06-12-2024 12:27 PM

Carol Sue No I haven't received anything from WW. I think you are right. They don't have actual meetings any more, although I think they do everything online even some meetings and not sure they do that any more.

Weight up some more to 159. Too close to 160 so I am on cleaner keto plan. Dr. Westman calls his plan Prescription Keto. His is a little stricter than a lot of the online/YouTube keto diets. I will be using his plan.

DH has decided we need to go to the Walmart because he needs to get AC filters. I want to take my list of foods I have from Dr. Westman's plan and get what I can eat. My goal will be to keep total carbs between 20 to 30 grams. Exercise today will be walking Walmart. I need to make a new list, one for him and one for me.

Hope everybody has a good day.

Wannabehealthy 06-12-2024 05:17 PM

I looked at WW online. They still have meetings at a few places that are official WW places. Not in churches like they used to do. And they call it something else. And they have online. Not interested but I would like to go somewhere that they weigh you and discuss weight loss with you like the place you and your sister used to go.

We actually ate a good home cooked dinner. DH asked what we were eating and I told him I took NY strip steak out of the freezer. He said he didn't want that so I told him to eat what he wants. He went out to play the lottery and when he came home he started cooking home fries and told me to cook the steak. So I did and also cooked broccoli and green peas. I want to eat some of the foods have in the freezer before it goes bad. I have chicken tenderloins and pork chops, and another set of steaks, maybe 4. Also some ground beef. Lots of frozen vegetables. I buy this food and freeze it but we get into the habit of eating out. I want to get back to cooking at home.

I. didn't sleep well last night. I was cold and DH was hot. It was around 50 degrees overnight. We had the windows closed but I felt cold. Actually I would rather be cold than hot. We have the air condition on now but he might turn it off at bedtime.

I think its strange that our scales are creeping up.

pattygirl63 06-12-2024 06:21 PM

Carol Sue DS and I have done the original WW and we did Overeaters Anonymous and I started the OA group in my home in the 70s. I don't think anyone does OA anymore. We didn't eat sugar or starchy carbs of any kind. It was a good plan and although I didn't lose a lot of weight, I have to say that I felt good when on the plan. I also went to the original TOPS group

(Taie Off Pounds Sensibly) and I really enjoyed it and I did lose weight. I liked the fact that you just ate regular food and learned to eat it within a set # of calories. As far as I know, all those have gone under except for WW and I think Oprah kept them going with her money. Don't know how long she will keep that going.

Well today's meal plan didn't go as planned. Dr. Berry says if you have a meal that didn't go as planned not to worry about it, but to just get back OP at the next meal. Walmart was out of rotisserie chicken and all they had was fried chicken. Therefore DH decided to get KFC. I probably will be able to stay within my calories, but my carbs are way over my 20 grams. I started not to track today but to changed my mind. Life will always have its surprises and upsets so I am choosing to learn how to work within whatever is going on. So I'm showing how far off I am today at meeting my goal remembering that I'm choosing to work with Dr. Westman's stricter rules of eating within total carbs instead of Dr. Adkins' original net carbs.

I made a better choice of low carb veggies and snack foods than I did last week. I have plenty of steaks, pork, fish and chicken in the freezer. I now have plenty of other foods to put around them to keep carbs lower. The nice thing is that DH understands as well as I do that I don't need to be eating a lot of sugar and carbs. Although today's choices wouldn't show it.
