Trish, I think that doctor doesn't like the idea of dieting. I didn't get a lot out of his book. It was a supposed to be about reversing diseases but I expected specific instructions.
I am so glad I figured out that stopping the Vit D was increasing my appetite. I saw that referenced in almost every article I read. Now I got a book about it and it mentioned it too. The new bottle I ordered is a higher dose but it was a good price so if can skip days so I'm not taking too much. I took this for at least 2 years. I don't know why I stopped it. I could not see that it was beneficial but I see it now that its gone. I noticed I was eating more but didn't know why. My grandson went back to school today. 8 th grade. DIL sent his picture and he looked so grown up! I'm amazed. We often went out for dinner and then to the mall in past years. We never go to the mall now. |
I know these grandkids grow up so fast. Our youngest started 7th grade this year. Can't believe it.
I did a little over 4 hr eating window but too many carbs. Ate what I wanted but it didn't settle with me very well. I would have done a OMAD but since we are going out tomorrow and I don't eat until we get back, I was afraid if I went 24+ hrs fasting I would get shakey while out. So probably the fact I ate when not really hungry was a bad idea. I've been sleepy all day and eating extra carbs has just made it worse. |
HI friends, home from the cottage. We pretty much lived there all summer. I have not gone back to read posts, but glad to see both Trish and Carol Sue here, and hope you continue to be well.
I did ok much of the summer, but got into the habit of eating ice cream after supper, and have gained quite a bit. I was 168 when I got onto the scale the other day. Since then have been eating low carb, which I need to do in order to fast beyond 2MAD. The good news is in that 2 days I have lost 2 pounds, so I will continue eating this way and not fasting further, because I am losing this way without the fasting. I will save that for when I need it. Also, my waist is 37 inches. Very sad and disappointed in myself. However, that is life. I have not tested BS all summer. I will not be eating keto tonight. We have theatre tickets and plan to eat out before the play. We actually have two plays we are seeing, another tomorrow night. The second play is about people putting on the first play. Its at our close by (30 minute drive) Stratford Festival. Should be interested and fun. We are going with a dear friend our loves outings like this, and sharing the experience with them is always fun. And the restaurant we are going to is a fish and chip place that does a divine gluten free version, so that is a special treat. We were not too isolated even though we were at the cottage (or camp) all summer, because we had lots of visitors, so I don't feel as socially deprived as I have some years. But now that we are home, I am enjoying being quite social again. I am making plans for things to do and work on this fall. I had a trip to Quebec to see some older beloved relatives, (we went last year for a funeral, so wanted a fun trip, not just going for sad events). It was great, but at my last visit with a cousin, I caught Covid. They had tested when her husband caught a "cold" and it was negative, so they assumed the whole family got the same cold. So when she told they we almost done with it and had tested negative, it was not really accurate. When I talked with her later about how to test, it was also clear they did not really follow the directions on the package. Also we know some strains can elude some rapid tests. In any case, as soon as I had symptoms, I tested and it was positive. No one else we say caught it, nor did my sister or cousin that we stayed with and travelled with. Neither did DH. My case was extremely mild, not even as bad a most colds I have had. Just felt crummy and tired, with a stuffy nose and low grade fever for a few days. I still have some fatigue, but as you know, I have that a lot with other auto-immune issues, so I don't think I can blame covid any longer. I have also had knee problems off and on all summer. Not bad enough yet to see the doctor though. I will take my time. The rest of the family is fine as well. So that is it for now. Best wishes everyone. chat soon. |
Mad, I am so glad to see you post! We were worried you were gone so long. I'm sorry to hear you had Covid but glad it was mild. I'm sure you will be able to turn the weight around. I need to do that too. Continue to enjoy your summer.
The scale came down today to 188.2. Down .8. I still overate yesterday but was able to stick to 6 hours. We had delicious burgers made at home. They are better than those from restaurants. I'm back to my Vit D and hope to reduce my appetite to more controllable. You are doing well, Trish, staying in the lower 180s although I know you are ready to see 179 as I am. We will keep fighting this and get there. Look how far we've come. |
Fatmad It is great to see you back home. Sorry about the weight gain, but that will come back off soon. I'm glad your bought ith the covid was mild. Sounds like you've had a good time overall and already getting back into your lifestyle at home.
Carol Sue, My weight is up today at 184 which I guess is a miracle in itself because I had such a carby day yesterday. I did get some good things out of the book Reversible although I don't agree with everything he is saying. Of course, he is talking about how he gained weight living in Egypt as a child. I personally believe there is a difference in using complex and simple carbs. One thing I have taken from his book is that your diet needs to be your plan. I can't eat your plan and you can't eat mine because our tases as well as our bodies are different. When I got up this morning and was up to 184 after peeing all night as well as fairly good BMs, I made a decision. I am going to eat the way I ate every time I have been thin. I am going back to Intuitive Eating with no foods being off limits. I did like the fact that in the Reversible docs book he doesn't tell his people that they can't eat certain foods. I think that is key to success. I found a beautiful guide to eating Mediterranean diet and it is probably Americanized but it is plate sample with half the plate being non-starchy vegetables, 1/4 protein which includes beans and 1/4 whole grains and starchy veggies. It is suggested that fruit be the dessert, non fat of lowfat dairy and healthy herbs and olive oil. It is a fairly good plan, It reminds me of the really good WW plan I did years ago that was based on fiber so it will be good to use as my guide, but eat intuitively. I did like that he said people used to only eat 1 or 2 meals a day. This brings me back to the way I always ate growing up and every time I was thinner. I'm not big on the starchy carbs but don't want to rule them out or even worry about carb counting. I always loved the IE rule of 1. When you are hungry eat. 2. Eat whatever you really want and savory it. 3. Eat until satisfied. 4 Stop eating. I had that rule taped to the front of my fridge in SC. Don't know why I ever got away from it. Hope everybody has a great day. |
After I got up my ankle started hurting. Its the same as when my right ankle was hurting a few months ago but this is the left. I don't know what causes this unless its the gout. It suddenly stopped the last time but I don't know how. Just magic I guess.
So DH got a rotisserie chicken and cooked mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. I hope I'm finished eating for the day and get a good weigh in tomorrow. I think your plan is a good one Trish. We can win this! |
Carol Sue, I hope your pain goes away quickly.
haven't done the vibration machine yet. Not sure if I will do it today because I don't play my music hen DH is up because he doesn't like contemporary Christian music. He only likes the old hymns. But I got some walking at the store. I even did a brisk walk from checkout to produce to get more onions to be sure I have enough when I make liver and onions tomorrow for dinner. I was surprised at how well I walked although I was still a lttle nervous about it. I told DH I need to walk more without cart or cane untill I get my confidence back. We got McDs CB and fries. I decided to just eat the bun but add just mustard and veggies to it. Had my watermelon serving a diet ice cream bar and now I will try not to eat anything else today. However, I decided that if I get hungry that I have a small salad. I remember the best diet doctor I ever had who told me to eat a small salad when I told him I get hungry at night. However, my goal is to do what I always did as a thin person and not eat anything after dinner. My goal is to eat OMAD for a while. |
Weight is down an another pound, 187.2. Calories and carbs still a bit high but I stopped eating after dinner, around 4 pm. Later on I had a piece of cheese, but I read yesterday that <50 calories most likely does no damage when fasting. Purists would say it breaks the fast and technically it does. I think observance of the eating window is key for me.
Still in pain. I feel it is not gout but plantar fasciatis. DH is trying all these remedies and its easier to let him than fight him. He doesn't know. He still says its gout. Trish, I think in time you will do better walking. You will need your cane less and less but keep it for safety. Just depend on it less. We need so much from Wal-Mart but I hate the thought of that walking with this pain. I am almost out of toothpaste. |
Carol Sue So sorry you are still in pain. If it is plantar, this might work for you that works for me that a lady on WW told me about years ago. You use the door facing where there is a slight step at the door. Stand on it with your foot partially on the step with heel off and raise up and down on your toes. It sounds crazy but works every time for me to get rid of it. I hope it will work for you too.
Congrats on pound off. My weight is back down to 182..8 this morning, but I see that I've just been bouncing this month because I'm up .6 lbs from August 1st. FBG was 106. I think I'm going to try eating just brunch and dinner and nothing else. It will be a job trying to do that because I'm used to eating in the evening but really need to breake that bad habit. That works better for my FBG to get rid of that nighttime eating.'' BBL |
Trish, my back door stoop would be perfect for that. I will try it. I have been doing similar stretches. I haven't been using the vibration platform. I don't know if it would hurt or help. I don't want to risk it right now. We are going to the casino. I don't know what that will be like. Yikes!
Yesterday before I ate the cheese I was at 1200 caps and 64 carbs. Those numbers are just slightly above what I try to aim for. I hope to do as well or better today. |
Well today has been a very good eating day again with only 2 meals. I've decided to use some of the ideas that the Reversibles book suggests. I decided to begin making small changes. It can't hurt and it might be helpful. The first goal I want to change is not eating at night.
Carol Sue, I hope your day at the casino went well. |
The casino wasn't great, but one good thing, my foot only hurt a little bit. I read in the food court most of the time. I read a book about Vit D. I think I read it before. It was interesting but I don't know if I believe all of it. But I do believe that it reduces appetite because my appetite went off the rails when I stopped taking it. I don't know how many cals or carbs I had but I stayed in my 6 hour window, and that's the main thing.
I think your plan is good, Trish. You should do well. I'm glad you got some good pointers from the book. _____________________________ Next day. The scale wiggled around 185.9 then landed on 196.0, 1.2 lb from yesterday. Woo Hoo!! I am eating 1200+ cals but carbs are under 100, in the 60-80 range. The key is I am able to stay in my eating window. I don't eat after dinner but we go to bed early and watch tv in bed. DH is no longer eating an early breakfast, probably because I don't eat it. 1 point for my side. When he eats at night it isn't anything I would eat. Unfortunately, in the past, I get down so low then start upward again. I don't know why that happens. I will keep working at this. I can tell that my appetite has slowed back down. I will use up the new Vit D then decide what level I want to continue. Its a big bottle and will take a long time to use up. I really need to make a Wal-Mart run today. I need so many things. We will probably go to Bob Evans for dinner then to Walmart. |
Carol Sue, Sounds like you are getting things working for you again. I think you ment your weight was 186. :) Hope your pain is gone today. Glad your DH is doing better with you not eating breakfast early.
Starting this month .4 lbs higher than the 1st day of August. Hoping this month to be better. I wanted codfish today but I don't have any. I am surprised that I didn't realize I had used the last of it. So we will have catfish instead. We go to Sam's Tuesday and will get a package of cod then. I had 2 sl SLMG toast one as cheese toast and the other slice toasted with PB & banana 2 c decaf coffee for brunch. I am now drinking only decaf coffee and green tea. Was not quite as difficult to make the switch as I thought it would be. Hoping to make this another 2MD. They seem to fall within a 4 1/2 to 5 hr eating window. Have a good day everybody. |
Oh yes, it was 186, not 196! <<shudder>>. It will not be that tomorrow, though. We went to Texas Roadhouse and I had delicious shrimp. Although I did not eat any rolls, it was a big meal. So I expect to be up tomorrow. I think you might have been right that I was retaining water weight because fat does not come off that fast.
My foot didn't hurt at all today. I wore my shoe insert and an elastic brace but did not take Tylenol or pain pills. Hopefully that is over with. _______________________________ Little bit of pain today in my left ankle and right knee. I didn't sleep well last night. When I got up for the bathroom I tested and blood sugar was high. This usually disrupts my sleep. This is the penalty for that meal that tasted so good. I know better. Yesterday when we went to Texas Roadhouse we went to the big Wal-Mart afterwards. It is much better stocked than out small local Walmart. Ours has the basics, eggs, milk, bread, butter but they are usually out of things DH buys like cheese popcorn and Werthers caramels. The big Wal-Mart had plenty so DH stocked up. I forgot my list so I didn't get cheese. I am out of most of the cheese I buy. The big Wal-Mart is 20+ miles away. And it is huge! Hard to walk from Pharmacy to Grocery. But I would really prefer to shop there because of their selection. This morning I got up at 5 and got on the scale. 187. I will weigh again at the normal time. I bought a Kindle book for $4. It will not download to my Kindle. It will download to my Kindle Fire but I prefer my regular Kindle for reading books. I never had this happen. I wouldn't care if it was a free book. |
Carol Sue, Sorry you are having pain again. I think some of the pain I get is when I euther eat too many carbs or possibly certain carbs. I've never really tried to track it to see what causes it. I hope you are able to get rid of the pain.
I am finally back to 181.8 this morning. I am so glad to see it. I hope eating 2MAD helps this to keep happening. It actually keeps me on track because it is so encouraging. I know that sounds crazy to be so excited about going down these small tenths move down, but it feels so good to see the movement downward even if it is so small. I'm cooking chicken legs today to go with our salad and veggie. So far it is been fairly easy to eat only 2 meals. I honestly think that the caffiene I used to drink may have made me hungry. So drinking the decaf has been helpful too. I have a little journal book I got for $Tree for a dollor years ago and I am using it like Reversing book says to by writing my small goal changes I want to make so I can lose weight and be healthy. I didn't drink milk yesterday and had no potty issues so I will continue the test of not drinking it to see if it was the cause. Carol Sue, we have a walmart that is so much nicer and has more than the one closest to us. We used to go there all the time because it wasn't far from where Daddy lived, but now that he is gone, we don't go over to that side of town much any more. Have a good day everybody. |
