Carol Sue, I didn't think I overdo protein at least not lately since eating only 1 or 2 meals a day. But now I could be dehydrated because I don't drink enough water. I will do the same thing when I go to have it checked again. In between time, I will work to keep the protein around 66 g and drink plenty of water. I will also read up on the protein spill.
I had planned to switch back to eating brunch dinner but got busy and the time got away from me. I still have some clothes to fold before I can do any more reading. When I talk to both sisters that takes up time so I just had a banana to break my fast. We are having catfish for dinner. I'm not sure I will have a salad or not. We are going to meat my sisters and BILs tomorrow at the local steakhouse so we can eat some good steaks. We are calling it my birthday dinner since my birthday is Monday. My DGS text today and wants to cook for my birthday but right now I'm not in the mood maybe because I don't want to clean house. Sad isnt it to feel that way. I may pick up around the house and ask him just to bring the boys and come over for a visit. I'm sure his wife/gf whatever (still don't know if they ever got married) will be working. They last time I saw her was at the ER when we took Daddy in on one of his many trips. Hope you don't have to get an antibiotic. Your doc will definitely want you to be tested for covid before he gives you any medicine, I'm sure. Hope you feel better soon. Have a nice day Everybody. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reaing firom the Reverse Osteoporosis & Osteopenia book on the vibration plate machine, it says that high-frequency loading of the skeleton through 6- 12 months of whole body vibration (WBV) leads to improvements of bone mineral density (BMD) in the hip. WBV traububg causes significant improvement in total hipbone mineral density in the first study of WBV which involved women aged 79.6. From study in 2006 women doing WBV 3x a week for 8 months had 4.3% increase in BMD and balance, both factors in frature rate. In a 2019 study of women doing 12 mos of WBV increased the BMD in the lumbar spine and women in a 24 wees of WBV obtained an incruse of 5.15% in their lumbar BMD and 10.58% in their lumbar spine mineral content. I will probably be getting one myself. |
Trish I am glad you told me about the effect of vibration on bone density. I was paying more attention to increasing muscle strength. And I read that you can sit with your feet on it like DH does and if you put your hands on your knees it vibrates your upper body.
My throat feels better. There is just a light hint of pain when I swollow. I will not test or doctor with it. We had delicious hamburgers for dinner. I was going to eat mine on SL bread but DH bought buns. He also bought Pinwheel cookies that I love!! I will have to work to stay away from them. I could eat the whole package. Its always something. |
We had fish for dinner and if I have the protein shake I will have a little over 1000 calories, but if I don't I will have less than 900 calories. I probably won't have the shake since it has now been almost 8 hrs since the beginning of an 8 hr eating window and I do not want to go over 8. By not drinking the shake I had a 4 hr eating window. So all is good. I know that one book said to eat more but I don't want more and I do so want to get down into the 170s soon and try to stay there at least for a while till I've adjusted to it.
I read in the book about how more men have osteoporosis (OP) than we are actually told. So, I told DH that he needs to use that machine as much as I do, so I will decide on one and purchase soon. Carol Sue I am glad the throat is better and I hope it continues to improve. Another thing I read in the book about using the vibration machine. She said if you are exercising on it that you need to rest 60 seconds between them. I figure I will do that along with the other way to benefit my circulation. |
My weight went down .2 to 185.0. It tried to stop on 184 but no. Maybe tomorrow.
You are doing great Trish. You are inspiring me to shorten my eating window. It really works better for me. I really think it is not as good to hold on when you are on the vibration platform but I need the security right now. I think in time I will get used to it and be able to let go. Holding on is better than not doing it at all. It stops automatically after 10 minutes but it stops gently, it doesn't jar you. I think you can set it for longer time. I know you can set it for harder vibration. I don't know which would be better, having the extra protein from the shake or having the shorter window with fewer calories. |
Here is an article I read.
https://www.frontiersin.org I hope it opens. It is long and may not interest you. It has to do with binge eating, but also discusses when we eat and how it effects weight. One thing that interested me was it said that eating regular meals on the same schedule is better for fighting obesity, rather than eating irregularly. I always heard that when you eat at the same time every day you train your body to get hungry at those times, expecting food. It also indicates that its better to eat early in the day rather than at night and that going to bed with food in your stomach disturbs sleep and encourages obesity. But I'm not sure that applies to everyone. When I was single I ate breakfast every morning when I got up and ate lunch, but I rarely ate dinner or ate a snack instead of a meal. I think my body was used to that. I gained when I started eating dinner with DH but I was still eating breakfast and lunch. Now I delay breakfast so I can eat dinner with DH but it is not as effective for me as an earlier eating window was. My body is now used to waiting until 11-12 for my first meal but I do get hungry. I saved this article on my tablet so I can read it again and understand what it says. I believe that articles like this don't always apply to everyone equally. There are always been people who are different and we need to do what works for us individually. |
Can't believe that I haven't been here to check in today. It has been a pretty good day. I'm having problems even eating a 1000 calories much less more. I barely got to 1006. My protein is in the 80s. Not sure that is good. Carbs are kind of high today. I skipped over to the diet plan in this doctor's book for healthy bones and I just may have to switch back to low carb. Not sure. I talked to BS and she says she eats dirty keto. That might be what I will end up doing. I just cant see me eating clean keto.
Weight was up 2.2 lbs today. Not really sure why unless I had too many carbs. Todays was high too so may have to cut back. We were supposed to go out for my birthday but BS had an abcess tooth so we postponed it for 2 weeks because DS hubby works next Friday. DGS wants to come over and cook steaks for us but not sure when. I need to get that relationship going again. It would be good for DH and me to have little kids around again. They say kids keep you young. I want to know my Great grandsons. Tomorrow is another day so will try to do better. I need to order the vibration plate machine too. I saw one at Walmart I think I want because it looks more sturdy. Carol Sue, I got the website of the article but not the article but I saved it so I could go back and see if I can find it. I hope your throat is better today. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Ordered my vibration plate machine. Estimated delivery is Tuesday. Ordered from Amazon. Looking forward to it and told DH he is going to use it too. |
Yes my sore throat is gone. I don’t know what caused it.
Scale stayed the same today, 185.0. More veggies, that’s what I need. I would never eliminate meat but I don’t want to eliminate veggies either. Trish I hope you can get together with your family. That is always an enjoyable time for you. You girls are fortunate that you still have each other and now you all live close. :cb: I don't think I could successfully do Keto because of my lifestyle with DH. I don't want to keep tabs on macros. I eat fat, but I don't want to force fat to eat at a certain level. The way I eat may not produce quick weight loss but I'm happy with it. I would prefer to eat the way I did when I lived alone. I was the only person bringIng food in the house and deciding what to eat. I tend to do what DH prefers because he's easier to live with that way. I know my eating has changed and that's a problem for him but it has changed for the better. I never should have switched to his way of eating but too late to cry about it. I did it, but now I'm trying to fix it. He honestly thinks the way he eats is healthy. I don't care what he eats but I want to be able to do the same. What worked best for me in the past was to eat lean meat, mostly poultry, seafood and vegetables. And eggs, always. My weight and health were good. I occasionally ate things like ice cream but not a lot and not often. I'm trying my best to continue to do that. I just don't know what to do because its hard when we eat dinner. I can only do the best I can. |
I decided to post now befnore I get busy with other things so I can do this earlier in the day.
Carol Sue, I understand exactly how things work when we work around what our DH eat. However, the changes in our eating happened when we were living in SC and our church decided to start doing the Daniel Diet that Rick Warren's church was doing. Our pastor went to college and seminary with Rick Warren and kind of pattern a lot of things similar to his way of doing things. He became friends with Dr. Hyman and his church went on The Daniel Diet and so did our church. All those carbs. I wouldn't do it for a long time because I was doing Atkins but I finally fell in step with everybody else. One of the worst things I could have done. Once you get off low carb it is so difficult to get back on. I cannot see myself doing a strict Atkins or keto woe, but I think I can do what BS and others call Dirty keto. At least I am going to try. I decided that since I already had to switch to Almond milk, then why not go more low carb... almost keto. Today I am making pizza. I will have my eggs and bacon with 1 sl toast. I need to look for a good low carb bread or make my own. BS eats low carb bread. I can make DH with the whole wheat tortillas we like and I can either add the toppings to my salad and have it low carb are try to make a lc one. Will see. I can do low carb but not keto. I watched a girl on FB who doesn't count calories, carbs or macros etc. That is pretty much what I want to do. MFP isn't working for me any more because I have to work so hard or fudge to show 1000 calories on there. I am going to keep either tuna, chicken or salmon salad made and on hand all the time for a quick low carb snack like BS does. She has shrunk to 4'11" tall and weighs 100 lbs which is the weight range she is supposed to be and is 68 yrs old. I'm working with her to get her doing weigh bearing exercises so she can build her bone density test. Hopefully whenever her doc desides to do the test for her, she will be okay. Weight this morning up to 182.8 after potty. Before it was 184 and that kind of scared me. I don't want to gain. FBG was 96. I really want to see those 170s so I am going to lower my carbs. I just am not sure I want to eat many carbs although I can eat some. Like I could have the thin crust pizza that I usually have. Although I don't want to do MFP to keep up with calories etc, I would like to use MFP to see how I am doing with my carbs as I would like to keep them under 50 grams if at all possible. I would be happy with that. I think eating more veggies and a few low carb friendly fruit would be a good way for me to eat. I've changed up my exercise as of today. I watched a video on why bike riding isn't weight bearing. It is because your foot never touches the ground so no pounding the pavement so to speak. She said it good for you to do, but doesn't help the bones. Which makes me wonder how good the doctor was that my primary sent me to. When I told her my doctor told me the bike was not good for me to do, she told me it was okay. Primary said he sent me to her because he thought my situation was serious enough that he thought she would give stronger meds etc. So I probably won't go back to her. She works with nutrition but at this point reading Dr. Kelly's book on Reversing Osteoporosis and the diet usually recommended, I don't think she could help me with that either. Glad your soar throat is gone Carol Sue. I hope you have a really nice day. We will figure out how to work around our DH to get this done. DH have pretty much the same health issues we are working on except that he isn't over weight. So when I cook for us, I have to remember that I am dieting and he is just eating to maintain good health especially blood sugar. Have a great day everybody. |
Trish I’m glad your DH is also eating for health. Like I said my DH thinks his diet is healthy. He thinks sugar is a necessary nutrient.
I got a lot of walking in today. We went for breakfast but at 11:30 so it was brunch. I had scrambled eggs and bacon. My brunch is always good, protein, fat and no carb. We went to Walmart and I bought lots of vegetables and we got a new printer. We tried to find a farmer selling corn but I think it was too late. Then we went to the local grocery for a few things they had on sale. I bought Braunswauger and when we came home I mad a half sandwich on SL bread. DH wants to go to Rodney’s. I don’t know how a Saturday will be there but I can get salmon or baked scrod with veggies if we go early. So this will be a good low carb day if dinner goes as planned. I have tried to find a low carb bread I like but none taste good to me. They are so expensive and are usually thick slices. I keep coming back to SL. It is not very high net carb so it’s good for me. Trish, I keep thinking back to when I lost weight the first time. I knew nothing about dieting. I knew the calorie count of many things but didn’t count up what I ate. I cut out junk and ate nutritiously healthy all around. And the weight fell off. I need to let go of obsessing over this. I like MFP because I have a record of what I ate and it saves to Fitbit. I have gone to MFP close to 1000 days in a row. Not that it got me anywhere on the scale. I’m going to do this no matter what! |
Carol Sue, my BS who weighs 100 lbs doesnt count calories, but says that she averages about 1000 calories a day and she is maintaining. My calories seems to average between 1000 to less than 1200 but I do have a problem a lot of times even getting to 1000. I realized the other day that if I don't hit the button to find out how much I should lose in 5 weeks which never happens, it won't tell me I'm not eating enough.
My carbs are going to be higher than 50 but I think maybe I should shoot for keeping net carbs under as low as possible but at lest under 100 of total as much as possible. Pizza day probably isn't a good day to start that so will just try to keep it closs. Oh Carol Sue, you said you didn't know about holding on something while on the vibe machine, but the lady who wrote the reverse osteoporosis book who wrote about the machine had a picture of her machine she bought. It had handles that are up the side she could hold on to and exercise on like a treadmill, but I don't have room for that and didn't want to spend that much money. I don't need I will need anything with the one I bought, but if I did, I think we still have DH Mother's old walker that she had before the hugo and I could use it if needed. I'm looking forward to using it. I read a review on Amazon about a woman who bought it and used and told of a 91 yr old relative using it. |
We went to Rodneys and I had my baked scrod and green beans. I saw a woman I worked with from in the 1970s to the 1980s, and we talked. The funniest thing is the place where we worked is across the street from Rodneys, but back then Rodneys wasn't there, it was a gas station. It was 40 years since I saw her.
Trish, I am very jealous of your sister weighing 100 lbs!! I don't think I could ever weigh that low. I saw the vibration platforms that have the handles to hold on but they are a lot more money. I am happy to have it next to my treadmill. I don't want to hold on for dear life but just to steady myself stepping on and off. I will let go once I'm on it but grab onto the treadmill if I think I'm going to fall. I have seen a lot on exercises online that you can do on the vibration platform but I don't know if I will ever reach that point. Who knows? |
Carol Sue, I saw some of those exercises on vibe platform, but not sure I will do them either.
I don't want to weigh 100 lbs either, but would like to see 125 some day, but not sure about that either. Total calories today was 1083 a net carbs 69 g. So I guess it is pretty good especially eating pizza. |
Today the scale is up .6. 185.6. Hopefully it will be down tomorrow.
DH wants me to make vegetable soup today. I will. I don't have any meat to put in it unless he wants to go to the store to get it. I don't want to. I m ok with no meat in it. I have a beef bone for flavor. Thunderstorms today. |
I was upset that my weight was 182.4 this morning because I thought it was up but then I realized that I had pizza yesterday. When I went to write it down on my daily record sheet that I keep and I was down .4 lb so that is a blessing because I usually gain 1 or 2 lbs day after eating pizza. Something is working. FBG 100 but still good because I'm still in 4 or 5 A1c range.
Not tracking on MFP today and may not track any more because I don't want to have to reach 1000 calories. We know from reading and learning from Dr Fung how IF works. BS told me how she makes her tuna salad. I don't like it being soggy. She squeeze all the liquid out of it. She does the same thing with the pickles so I did the same thing. This way it doesn't get old and soggy and it will last a few days longer. She says she makes her salad and she just goes in and eats a little of it at a time to just take off the edge of hunger over the day and it lasts a few days. She says her DH eats off of it too sometimes. She probably uses a much bigger can of tuna than I do. Carol Sue we are learning how to make this work for us individually and I believe this is what they mean when they say take responsibility for your own health. Have a blessed Sunday everybody. |
My soup turned out perfect. I made less because when I make a lot sometimes no one wants it. DH won’t eat it after the first day and won’t eat it frozen. I didn’t put any salt in it because the beef bullion and canned veggies have sodium. I use the tomatoes and juice but I drain and rinse the canned mixed vegetables. Just the right amount of salt.
Trish I don’t like tuna salad to be soupy either. I always drain the tuna well then add minced celery and just enough mayo to mix it. I sometimes put relish in it for me but DH doesn’t like it that way. I wish we could do our own thing with eating. I would gladly cook his meals but he wants me to eat it with him. “Don’t make it just for me.” I know a few women who cook their husbands food but don’t eat, like I did when the kids were here. He will eat alone at breakfast and lunch but doesn’t want to at dinner. Maybe I should switch things up. When he says “Don’t make it just for me “. I should say “Ok.” I am really worried about Mad. She never stayed away this long. |
