Trish many people prefer not to weigh every day and it works best for them.

The sabotage book makes me realize the things I do that I need to change. And I need to take responsibility for my weight loss and not blame it on DH. He is wrong to do what he does but I’m wrong to go along with it. Two wrongs dont make a right.

I don’t know what my goal weight is. I was 137 on my wedding day and that was 10 lbs more than I wanted it to be. But I had to fight to maintain that weight and I don’t think it’s reasonable at my age. For one thing my belly fat is my main complaint. If that was smaller I’d be happy. It’s the fat around my organs and that’s the dangerous fat. It seems every bite I eat goes straight to my abdomen, but the weight I lose never seems to come from there. But whatever I lose I will stop when I start getting hanging skin. So that is my goal, the lowest I can get without hanging skin.

Had a successful eating day of 4 hr eating window, 1004 calories and net carbs of 47 g. I'm working on my first 20 hr fast in a long time. Taking this one day at a time.

Wannabehealthy 08-13-2022 10:31 AM

Good for you on a successful 20 hour fast. That’s how I lost so well when DH was in the hospital.

Weight is down to 184.6 but I spent a lot of time in the bathroom overnight. So it is not a true loss. I will hold it as best I can but it’s not probable. It’s either the Metformin or the magnesium. I am going to cut the magnesium back to one capsule. Two gives me the recommended dose for a man but women are recommended a bit less. I am probably getting some from my food. There are people online taking twice as much as I am.

My hip pain is still gone but I still don’t know how or why. I guess I should just be glad. I haven’t researched the magnesium yet to see if that could be it. It is supposed to improve sleep which it is not doing but getting rid of the hip pain is worth it.

——————————————————-

Heres what I found online.

Possible causes of hip pain and buttock stiffness: The pain radiates from the lower back to thebuttocks, thigh, calf and foot Muscle weakness due to protein deficiency, CoQ10, Magnesium or BVitamin deficiencies which are commonly associated with the symptomsyou are experiencing Electrolyte imbalances of magnesium and potassium.

I am going to cut back to 1 magnesium and see what happens.

pattygirl63 08-13-2022 12:43 PM

Carol Sue, I cut back to 1 magnesium yrs ago because the one I take has a little more than what I am supposed to take. I forgot how much the doctor told me to take but this is a little more. I think it helps me sleep so well that sometimes I have to rush to the bathroom when I wake up and need to go. Thank God, I wake up in time to make it. TMI

I noticed that I am not having pain like I used to in my back, knee or hip. In fact, I felt a twinge in my hip last night when I moved a certain way but it went away almost as quickly as it came to where I almost didn't feel it. I never thought about the magnesium because I've taken it for so long, but I honestly believe combination of the Turmeric and the E-zorb that I take for my bones are actually working together. The E-zorb is to strengthen my bones naturally by getting rid of the bad bones and rebuilding new bone instead of piling new on top of old damaged bones. Now that I'm doing clean healthy fasts hopefully getting into autophagy, that will help it work better. I am hoping that what I've read is true that once I'm past 14 to 16 hrs of fasting that I go into autophagy so that the damaged bones are eaten some how by the body and new ones are built. There are so many different thoughts on that as to how and when it happens but I am praying it will happen for me with the 20 hr fasts and the supplements I take.

Weight down .6 lb to 184. I knew it was too much carb and probably too much food/meals the day before. My FBG doesn't seem to like this new routine as it was 106 yesterday of course that was too many carbs and I slept late today and it was 107. Not sure if that is because I had an insulin dump to get me going this morning. This is day 2 of my 2MAD. I will have an actual 20 hr clean fast today by the time we eat dinner. I will drink the protein shake 4 hrs after dinner so I stay OP. I don't seem to miss my coffee creamer although I do have my favorite TX pecan flavored coffee with creamer during my carb meal at dinner. Learning these little tricks will help me to stay OP. Another good thing with this is that I don't drink but 2 or 3 c of coffee each day and the rest of the time, I drink water.

Parmessan chicken is on the menu today. I found some whole frozen okra in the freezer that I didn't know that I had so I will have that and DH will have Harvard beets. Of course, we will have our salads. Funny how he didn't like salads for years now he has to have it which is good because there are days I wouldn't eat one. It keeps me on track because I will make me one if I make him one.

Carol Sue, I am excited to see how all this will work out for us. I surely hope we can hold on to our 184/184.6 and get that scale moving downward for us very soon. By the grace of God, here we come 170s.

Have a blessed day Dear (Sister) Friend.

Wannabehealthy 08-13-2022 01:31 PM

I have never been tested for magnesium but this doctor says most people older and with diabetes are deficient. I think what I’m taking Is too much.

I thought autophagy takes longer than that. There are different opinions online. Even so a 20 hour fast is good.

I have decided ti up my vegetable consumption. It has always helped me before. So many people online are against vegetables saying they are not needed but I think they are needed for me and I like them. I will do what I think is best for me.

I also want to research losing abdominal fat since that’s my biggest problem. I know they say you can’t spot reduce but fat should come from the biggest deposits. I dont want to be thin with this enormous belly.

So my goals are not just weight loss.

pattygirl63 08-13-2022 02:12 PM

Carol Sue, When I went into the hospital about 5 yrs ago dehydrated, they found that I was deficient in magnesium and told me to take 500 mg. I had diarrhea all the time with the ones from Walmart and found out that the Magnesium Gutenate (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) isn't supposed to cause potty issues. However, if I take 2 I have found that it can causes it. So I take only one and is 550 mg per pill. I figure that 50 g extra won't hurt me. I buy it because DH takes 2 a day and I get a subscription on Amazon for 3 bottles at a pretty reasonable price.

I have noticed that drinking coffee with only liquid Stevia is almost like a mild laxative. No issues just regulates. I remember that happening when I was young and first started drinking coffee with Mama. She always drank it black so I did too until I moved to SC and don't remember why I started putting anything in it. Probably the flavors caused it.

Carol Sue, I would love to lose the belly fat as well and although keto people especially doctors don't think veggies or fruit is important, I think they are wrong. What about all the antioxidents in them that fights or prevents cancer. I just am not sure about some of that. Personally, I think the extremes are a problem. You have the vegans who eat no meat whatsoever and then the carnivores who eat only meat. I thought about doing that, but the last time I decided that I liked meat enough to go keto, I found it to be so very boring. My Mama had cancer. The health food store man I worked for helped her become cancer free by teaching Daddy how to treat her with fruit and veggies. I've said before that when I found the book Mama had on Fit For Life, I often thought that if she had eaten like that book taught at least some fruit, she might not have ever had cancer. However, the man died himself with colon cancer which I also thought that he went too far the other way. He constantly did colonics and his wife complained to me about how she couldn't get him to eat because he didn't have time. He was so busy taking care of others and we were lucky if we could get him to drink a health drink each day. He got his veggies and fruit but only in smoothies. I always believed that killed all the good flora you need in your colon and he was constantly detoxing never putting anything good back into his body. You have to have some common sense in all this. At least that is MHO. Of course we know now, that you don't get a lot of nutrition from drinking fruit juices etc.

Thanks for the info. I take potassium as well. I can see from the info you shared why my pain is better as well. I take all of those things and obviously it is working. Look forward to seeing what you learn about the belly fat. I got rid of that before but it was when I didn Atkins.

Wannabehealthy 08-13-2022 09:41 PM

Trish I started reading Jen Powters other book but it was her first book and we read her second book first. Some of the information might be duplicated. We are probably going to the casino tomorrow so I’m saving that to read there. That’s funny that I go to the casino to read. They have two places where you can sit and read. The other casino has no place to sit and read.

You are taking way more magnesium than I am. Mine is magnesium glycinate. Two capsules are a total of 420 mg so 1 is going to be 210. I eat some foods that provide magnesium. I sometimes get leg and foot cramps at night. I have Epsom salts cream that I rub on it and it goes away. It contains magnesium. DH says I only need to rub it and don’t need the cream.

I could eat only meat but I would miss vegetables. I eat no fruit. I can eat a banana, or on occasional orange or apple but we don’t buy fruit. DH buys canned fruit in HEAVY SYRUP, So much sugar! He thinks our bodies need sugar. It’s an essential nutrient.

I haven’t found the secret to losing belly fat. I think low carb and exercise are key. Mine is bad because of my abdominal surgeries that destroyed my ab muscle. My mothers belly looked just like mine but she was big all over. My butt is not big, in fact it’s flat. I could wear my pants backwards.

The carnivores on Twitter say they get all the needed nutrients from meat. There is a woman who eats almost only carnivore and she really struggles to lose weight. But she won’t budge. She says vegetables make her bloated. I think that happens until your body gets used to fiber. She says if we were meant to have it the body would not need to get used to it. Her MIL lost a lot of weight on another diet but she refuses to try it. It is Virta. I would love to try it but it is pay. I don’t know if you can get the diet without paying. Like people who do WW on their own.

pattygirl63 08-14-2022 01:08 AM

Carol Sue, I haven't decided if I want to read the first book Jen bought or not. I'll see what you think before I defcided.

I had another very good eating day staying within my 4 hr eating window and 2 meals and ended with 1073 calories and net carbs of 56 g. Working now on another 20 hr fast.

Enjoy your reading at the casino.

Wannabehealthy 08-14-2022 08:58 AM

My weight is up .8. I’m not surprised because yesterdays weight was due to dehydration from the potty issues.

Im reading the book because it’s free. I started reading the sabotage book and almost didn’t finish it because the way it started out did not apply to me at all. I’m so glad I continued on because other chapters really resonated to me. I want to read chapter 5 every week to refresh my memory. It is almost all highlighted. So I won’t take the chance that she has information in this book for me too. The eat this don’t eat that rules do nothing for me. I need to be free to eat all foods. It’s all about behavior and lifestyle changes for me.

Years ago there was a novel that everyone recommended. I bought it and started reading it but set it aside because it didn’t interest me. About a year later I went back to it and couldn’t put it down. It depends on my frame of mind.

pattygirl63 08-14-2022 12:12 PM

Carol Sue, This book is helping me to focus and understand myself and my eating because I identify with so much of what she shares. Some things I may not experience exactly as she says, but it fits somewhere else in my life. Example, when DH#2 worked in security and the kids were gone and I was alone most of the time, it seemed like as soon as he walked out the door that it was the eating party was on. I was alone so I always thought I ate out of boredome and loneliness. However, I realize that it also was something that happened when I was growing up. When Daddy wasn't home, Mama would make fudge or a cake or something sweet then she and us girls would just enjoy having fun together. I remember doing things like that with my kids when DH#2 worked evenings. A lot of things I've done over the years came from my up bringing.

Weight is down 1 lb today to 183. My FBG was 105. The FBG is higher while fasting, but it is coming back down so I hope it will continue to do so. I seem to remember that this does happen when fasting, but don't remember the details. I'll have to research to see what Dr. Fung said about it. I'm sure he discussed it.

Stomach isn't too happy with my fast today but I will have my 20 hr fast today and eat only 2 meals. We have our doctor's appt Tuesday and then I will try working on a 23 hr fast at least one day a week.

Carol Sue, I feel the very same way you do. I do not want to be able to eat any food I want to eat without restriction. One thing I did like about WW is that I learned to think "portion" control not restrictions. Eat this not that doesn't work or interest me at all.

Have a nice day everybody.

Wannabehealthy 08-14-2022 12:29 PM

Trish you are doing great with fasting. I think when you go a long time without eating your body releases glucose. This is to keep your glucose from going too low. I don’t know exactly. I’ve been getting higher glucose probably because I’m not taking Metformin like I should but I don’t want to get potty issues when we are going to the casino. I will take it when I’m going to be home. I also only took 1 magnesium until I find out which one is causing it.

Here is something I found online.

According to the Institute of Medicine, men require 400 to 420 mg of magnesium daily while women require 310 to 320 mg. Pregnant or lactating women require slightly greater amounts, approximately 310 to 400 mg, per day. Children require 80 to 240 mg daily, while adolescents require 360 to 410 mg of magnesium.

This is why I think the 420 mg of magnesium could be too much for me. I have not had it checked by a doctor. If you and DH have had it checked by your doctor you should be taking what he recommends. Apparently it’s not hurting you.

Today I am eating the wrong foods but it’s planned and I will be within my calorie range and carbs still below 100. DH went for McDonalds breakfast sandwiches at 8:30. I haven’t had one foe a very long time and it was so good. I order mine without cheese so it’s 100 calories lower. I do not like cheese with egg or sausage. I want to eat a hamburger at the casino. They are big and very good. My 2 meals will be 9 hours apart. That will be very hard for me. I can fast long overnight but I know DH will eat something before we leave and I hope I can resist. I could have kept my breakfast and ate it later but once I saw it I had to eat it.

—————————————

I ended up eating before we went to the casino so I didn’t get to have my hamburger as I planned. DH wanted chicken chow mein and that’s too much for 1 person and I didn’t want to waste it.

I read part of the other book but it was just ok. Basic weight loss information. So I started reading a romance novel that I had on my kindle. DH won pretty good.

pattygirl63 08-14-2022 11:09 PM

Another good 2MAD. Calories 1062 and net carbs 62 g. Thought about doing OMAD but decided to stick to the plan and wait until after Doctor's appt.

Got another book to read that I stumbled upon on Reversing Osteopina and Osteoparosis. I didn't know there was any sort of thing.

Carol Sue, Hope you enjoyed your off day at the casino and it was a good one.

Wannabehealthy 08-15-2022 01:12 PM

I did a lot of walking at the casino because I was able to walk without wobbling. Weebles wobble but we don’t fall down! That’s another new thing, better walking. I walked better in Walmarts parking lot this morning, too. I didn’t have to hold DHs arm. I guess the magnesium is doing that.

I did not weigh this morning because we left early. I had breakfast at Bob Evans, then Walmart, ALDIs and Goodwill. Walmart was out of green peppers and I wanted to make stuffed peppers. We stopped at ALDIs for them and they had the frozen green beans I like so I got 4 bags. Each bag is 2 meals for us. I needed celery and I got the biggest stalk of celery I ever saw at Walmart! I will be eating a lot.

I don’t think I have any diet/ health/ medical books to read right now. I want to finish all the Kindle Unlimited books I have on hand right now before the end of August then decide if I want to renew.

pattygirl63 08-15-2022 01:39 PM

Carol Sue, I am waiting until after our doctor's appt to make sweet 'n sour chicken. DH bought the chicken pieces frozen and I bought regular brown rice and will make it homemade. In fact that is what I plan to make Wednesday for our main meal. I think Chinese meal is too heavy before a doctor's WI. I really do love Chinese food. I bought a cookbook on making from scratch years ago but it must have been "real" Chinese food not Americanized and it was way too much trouble to make. This will be so much easier.

I am glad I got the book on Reversing Osteoparosis. Last night I realized that in college that I loved doing research and the funny thing is that it has carried over in my mature age. (I don't like thinking of myself as "old" age mature sounds better). Any way, I won't give up all dairy but I will have to cut back some and I may end up giving up all but 1 c of coffee a day. It seems that too much animal protein causes inflammation which is not good for the bones. It turns out that what I had heard about the meds are true. It had stuck to me because of our experience with DH Mother when she broke both hips. I remember the doctor telling us in the emergency room that she really had not broken her hip but that she had broke the upper part of the femur below the hip. She had been on Fosmax long before she broke her hip. Come to find out a Merck study actually shows that taking the Fosamax actually causes this to happen in the elderly. Statistically taking the meds does not change the # of women who have broken hips each year whether on or off the meds. And most are caused from falling. It is suggested that you work on exercises that keep us stable like yoga etc and working at preventing falls do better than the meds do. Walking is also very good for building bones but needs to be brisk. DH said if I had a grocery cart I could do that in the neighborhood. I do have a really good walker that I could use to do that. Along with the exercise you can also lower your risk and even build up your bones by eating the right foods and avoiding or cutting way back on those that cause inflammation which damages the bones.

I figure that I've used my diet and exercise to reverse diabetes (as long as I continue doing it) so I why not learn to tweat my plan to build my bones and reverse things so that I don't become full blown osteoporatic. I looked at my last report and my numbers aren't that high to start with so I have a good chance. at improving my situation without the meds or at least keep it from becoming worse. I figure that since the average age of women who do break their hips without the meds is 84.79 and the only person in my family who ever broke a hip was my aunt who was 88 or 89 yrs old before she broke her hip means it is a good chance that I might never have it happen to me. She lived to be 91 so you can't say she died because of the broken hip. She never took Fosamax or bone meds. The doctor who prescribed the meds to me said most women die within a few months to a year after breaking a hip. DH Mother lived a couple of years after her breaks and she died because she didn't want to live any longer. She had to have a pacemaker and at her age her body started shutting down and she told DH and me one day that she was ready to go be with DH Daddy in Heaven just stopped eating and went into hospice and with a week or so, she was gone. That is the way to go.

Weight today was 182.8 and FBG 104 a point lower than yesterday so hopefully that keeps going down and I will be able to get back down into the 90s. I want to finish reading the Sabotage book today. I still have the book Calorie Myth and thought I bought it, but when I decided to get the Osteo Reverse book, I noticed that it is borrowed so I need to finish it too. So I will be reading a lot today.

Carol Sue, they recommend lots of veggies (greens seems to be important for calcium) and fruits for the bones. Fish with bones, plant protein although they don't say no meat but show that we can also get good protein from legumes and plant proteins as well as nuts. They do say that spinach needs to be eaten with a vitamin c rich foo or cooked to make its calcium bio-available due to the amount of oxalate it contains. You love v aneggies so I automatically thought of you and of course, I like fruit. She references some other books along the same line and I want to find one who gives more info on what foods to eat for strengthening my bones especcially since dairy is not one of them.

Have a great day.

Wannabehealthy 08-15-2022 07:19 PM

Trish when DH fell and broke his hip he thought he was going to die because that’s what we always hear. He fell on cement and fell on his side and broke off the ball that goes into the hip socket. So it was not the actual hip that broke. As far as we know it healed ok but he won’t go for his checkup. I think when people die they do so from getting pneumonia from lying in bed. They made him get up and walk right away which was very hard but necessary.

I made stuffed peppers and green beans then fell asleep. So I didn’t eat until 6:30. It was good.

I know how you feel about walking outside with a walker. I cannot walk outside for fear of falling. I feel like the neighbors are watching me when I go out for the mail at the end of the driveway. I am ok walking on my treadmill holding the rail but I read an article that said you should not hold on because it’s not good for your body. They said to walk very slow to get used to not holding on. But I think it’s better to walk holding on than not walk at all. I don’t think they are taking into consideration that older people have balance problems. I also don’t like to walk up or down the front steps because the neighbors can see me. I do better if I come in through the garage and come up the cellar steps.
