Hi Mad, I hope you get your B12 and eGFR issues straightened out. It's something how doing IF makes bloodwork so much easier. We no longer fear having fasting bloodwork.
Our temps today were similar to yours but with less snow. We used to buy snow tires when we worked but now that we don't have anywhere we have to be, we don't. Even our car that is not AWD goes ok in the snow just with radial tires and it's rare for them to not have our roads cleared within a few hours of a snowfall. It's been years since we've had more than 4 inches. I guess I should knock on wood. I'm not sure about Trish, it they treat the icy roads in TX. I am more concerned about falling like DH did last year. It wasn't even a snowy day but it was very cold with an icy patch in front of a store from water dripping off a roof. I would have walked around that icy patch but DH claims he didn't see it. I don't want a repeat. Also, you can take precautions but someone else could slide into your car so we always have to be cautious. |
Pipsicle I hope your fast is going well.
Carol Sue I''m glad the dog did better getting groomed today and that you were able to take him. Mad You are always so good about staying on top of things. It is good that you can keep up with your numbers. Lowering the A1c 0.1 has got to be a good thing. My appointment went very well. They use Wellbutrin to suppress appetite but I want to see how I do with just the shots and diet first. I will do this for 1 month and then go in and see NP again to re-evaluate how I'm doing and get the results from her of the lab work and see if we need to add the Wellbutrin. Also I talked to her about my thyroid so she decided to order a complete lab work to get a better picture of what is going on and she also ordered the whole Thyroid check to get all three #s to see if the ones doctors seems to think or okay if the other one is never gets check will be checked this time. I noticed she is also having my vitamins checked as well especially Vitamin D. Another vitamin that I've asked to be checked but never got from primary physicians. The NP was very helpful. The day that I filled out all the paper work online, I gave them the menu of what I was going to eat that day because they wanted a sample of what I usually ate. She said that it looked like I was eating the right things, so they want to watch what I eat and see if they can figure out why I don't lose better. I did learn that the shot I'm taking some how makes the cells let go of the fat that is in them. They weighed and measured me. I talked to her about how I liked buying the lunch meats that you can grab for a quick snack, that the sodium is so high and it makes me swell. am to e and she says for me to keep those and cheese to a minimum. She wants me to eat protein meals and protein snacks. It is going to be difficult for me to eat 3 meals and 2 or 3 snacks. I'm not used to that. But they gave me a list of snacks and I noticed a snack can be a hand full nuts that are protein and fiber. This diet seems to be low fat, more moderately low carb, moderately high protein and the low carb is from nuts and veggies along with some low carb protein bars etc. She told me that they believe the secret to consistency to a successful diet is tracking everything you eat. She said she thought DS tracks everything and that is why she is doing so well. She noticed that I needed my cane because of my back hurting me and she wants me to get some exercises to strengthen my back. I know I felt so good after walking today although I got so tired long before we left Walmart. Now that the weather is cooler, I might try to get out and walk some even if I have to go window shopping some where. |
I thought I would share what I ate today per NP at bariatric. She wants me eating mostly chicken, turkey and fish. I waited and had breakfast when I got home and had 2 eggs and 2 sl turkey Canadian bacon. I will be giving up my regular bacon and start eating turkey bacon since that is what she recommended. In fact, we purchased 3 one lb packages of turkey bacon at Sam's for less than $7 and regular bacon costs about $5 a lb the last time I bought it. DH and I got the McDs CB as usual after shopping so I came home and fixed mine like I always do on the Sara Lee MG 45 calorie bread. (She approved the SLMG although they prefer whole wheat and even admitted that she likes that bread herself.) The change I did make to that meal is chips made by Quest instead of the chips which they recommend we eat. So I bought a package of Ranch flavored and ate half the package instead of the whole package which is one serving giving me half the calories. I also finished the meal with my usual cup of coffee and half a Quest cookie. It is going to be nice to have some these allowable treats to ward off any cravings for the ones they replace. I probably should make some of these little treats as a snack rather than part of a meal. This will just spread out the calories. I don't want to eat more, but less calories. Will see.
Have a good evening and stay warm. I hope you get a good nights sleep Carol Sue. Goodnight. |
Trish, I have been waiting to hear about your appointment and it sounds very interesting. Do you get the shot every week? I also would wait and see before taking Wellbutrin. I was reading about possible side effects. The more you do this on your own the better. I really hope this helps you even though you have lost well on your own, although slowly.
I also would not want to have 3 meals and 2 snacks unless they were very small.meals. This is like a 6 small meal per day program. But you never know, it might work differently when you are eating the right foods. This is what you are paying them for, to advise you. Did you mention an eating/fasting period to them? I will be looking forward to hearing how your vitamins are. I take Vit D because I never get any sun. I don't know if it's doing anything. Usually if I don't notice any difference I stop taking things. I am still not remembering to take my multi. Sounds like a good day. |
Carol Sue I forgot to ask about fasting, but I think there is a way to do a form of fasting even with 6 small meals. It takes organizing it within a 12 hr fast. I wouldn't get the autophagy effect, but I would get the affect of letting the stomach/digestive system to rest. I have another appointment with her Dec. 10th so I will start making a list of questions that I want to ask her because I had some other questions I wanted to ask her. One thing I forgot to tell you is that she doesn't want me drinking my Diet Dr. Peppers either. I told DS that I forgot to ask her about the Zero PowerAde, but DS said it is on the list so we can have it. I bought the one you and I like and I also bought the blue one hoping I will like it. I will allow myself one a day. DH kept finding all the other flavors but I finally got him to hear me telling him that they were not 0 sugar. I won't be getting the shots every week at least until after the first of the year because they won't be here. I have one on the 20th of this month and only one on the 10th next month. However, after the holidays, I can get them once a week if I want. Shots will be $15 each and when I need to see the NP, it will be an extra fee of $50. It is worth the $50 to help me get the answers to make this work for me personally. Oh I set my goal weight as 150 which means I only have 67 lbs to lose. I told them I would like to go lower but not sure about it since I'm 76 yrs old I'm not sure I will. The girl I was talking to told me her mother didn't go as low as her goal she set because of she was wrinkling and it would make her look old. So we will see. My main goal is to lose enough weight to get my bs and health back to normal and hope that I will be able to learn how to eat so as to make it a lifestyle not a diet so I can keep the weight off once I reach my goal.
Oh DS was disappointed because she lost only .8 lb of weight this week, but she has lost 46 lbs so that is good. Oh the funny thing I forgot to share. The secretary and the guy who weighs and takes bp saw me get out of my car when I got there. They thought I was DS except that they knew that wasn't her car that I was getting out of. When I was making my future appointments, I told her my sister would be there in a moment and told her who she was and she started telling me the conversation she and the guy had when I got out of the car. While I was on the phone to see if DS was on the way, I heard him come in and say to her "She is her sister?" I stayed to see her when she got there and stayed to see how things went after her appt. LOL |
28 hours so far. I should be able to make it to 36 hours as long as I can get to sleep quickly. I just had an extra cup of broth so that should help. In the future, it should be easier because I should be able to go to bed earlier. Tonight I had to finish up some work. Also, my poor kiddo is sick and needs a lot of attention.
|
Pipsicle, that is great that you stuck with it this far! I know once you go to bed you will make it. I was only able to do that once, I made it to 36 hours.
I hope your daughter feels better. I forget how old she is. Trish, you and your sister must really have a resemblance. She shouldn't worry about her loss after losing so much already. She might have hit a plateau and that is just when your body adjusts to the new weight. Changes are happening but it doesn't show on the scale. Does your sister take the Wellbutrin? I still have some PowerAde Zero but I have not been drinking it. It's funny, but it tastes too sweet for me. I bought some electrolyte water and drink that, but not every day. I drink it if I have potty issues. I think I could drink the PowerAde if I added ice that would dilute it. We got more snow through the day yesterday around dinner time so we ended up with 2-3 inches total. DH went out in it to the convenience store but I did not. I stayed in, nice and warm. Some schools have a 2 hour delay today, probably because of the cold. I slept ok but not long enough. My back hurt and I did not take Tylenol. I don't want to take it every night. Yesterday I took a little nap. If I don't take a nap today I might sleep better tonight. |
A nice normal 153 today. Feeling fine. Slept well
Pipsicle, now you have done an extended fast, congratulations. You could certainly do 2MAD with a 16-18 hour fast on a regular basis now, and I hope that will kick start things for you. Remember to have only a small meal to start today. I recommend yoghurt myself, unless you have issues with dairy. If so, consider a probiotic to take with your meal to encourage gut bacteria. to be healthy. Trish: you have been successful to some degree with 2MAD, so i hope this works for you to be so different. This sounds like a low fat low calorie diet. Wellbutrin is what I take as an antidepressant. It is also used to help people stop smoking, as well as to stop impulse eating. So its quite helpful for some people. Have a good day friends |
Trish, I am wondering if you are going to wait until your next visit to the center to weigh. That won't be until the 20th, right? Will they weigh you if you are there for the shot, and not the consult with the NP? If I were you, I would still weigh at home. I wouldn't want to wait until the 20th to find out if I lost or not. It is entirely up to you as is the meal timing. Do they tell you not to weigh at home in between visits? What does your sister do? I don't think it's completely the shot that causes the weight loss. It has to also come with compliance to the eating plan. If it was just the shot, then you would never be able to maintain unless you continued the shots forever. I am very curious to see how it pans out, as I am sure you are, too. If it did not work, they would be out of business, so it must do something. I don't think it matters if it is low fat, low calorie. I believe we are all different and can lose on various plans, whichever suits us the best. I know for myself that high fat just makes me queasy. I have never felt that it helps me lose weight. Eating less is what works for me and only eating when hungry.
We went to Walmart, mainly for Wheaties for DH and they only had one box. That will last a few days. LOL We usually buy 2 at a time. Hundreds of boxes of all the other sugary junk cereal. We ended up spending $36 anyway, but it was stuff we will use eventually. I bought the wrong butter. I got unsalted and we always buy salted. I didn't realize it until we checked out and DH said he didn't care. I sure don't care. And I bought some garbage bags on clearance, so if they are thin and skimpy I will hear about it. But it saved money. I also got my stuffing croutons for Thanksgiving. That's one thing I am picky about. I like to buy 2 bags, one seasoned and one unseasoned and mix them together. The seasoning is too strong for me when I only use seasoned. I could do my own, but this system I have seems to work out to my liking so I'm not going to fix what is not broken. I will get my turkey and fixings for pumpkin pie within a week of Thanksgiving. I have a list all ready. Hopefully my sister-in-law will be coming and she always brings the sweet potato casserole. I'm not too good at making that. So plans are made. Today I will wash all my dishes from the china closet so they are ready. I only use them on Thanksgiving so they need freshened up. And I have to find my big table cloth and make sure it's ready. So many things people don't think about when all they have to do is sit down to the table and eat. But I feel good and I want to do it. It gets me to give my house a good cleaning before the holidays are here. It really feels like Christmas outside, today. Mad, do you have any side effects from the Wellbutrin? I was reading about it online last night and there were a lot mentioned, but I know they tell you every possible side effect and most of the time you don't get any of them. |
Carol Sue Yes they will weigh me and do vital signs each time I go and someone will spend time talking to me. They didn't say anything about how often I weigh but DS asked them and they said it wasn't good to weigh everyday so she doesn't. However, You know me, I can't wait until I go to see them to weigh. LOL Of course as usual I weighed this morning and probably will the whole time especially since I won't be going for the shots on weeks when they aren't there. My FBG this morning was 135 and weight was 211.8 down 1.4 lbs today. YAY!! I talked to a dietician who called me this morning and the half and half yogurt I make is out so I've got a batch of FF H&H yogurt making now. I made it in a hurry before I left to go get my Lab work done and forgot to put any Stevia in it, but I can always add it if need be. I actually fasted until I got back and only drank water this morning. I am eating a the other half of the Quest Power cookie I didn't eat yesterday with a cup of coffee. Not a great way to start the eating day but I was beginning to have some weird feelings so I needed a cup of coffee and something or take a nap. Since it is almost time to cook our main meal, I chose a quick snack and it was easy to grab. Since I only allow myself 1 half serving of that type of treat each day, I won't have another. I checked my still FBG before I ate and it was 107. So that is pretty normal.
Mad I did tell the dietician that I like doing IF along with my diet. I also took the time to share with her my normal way of eating from a child when I grew up eating only 2MAD plus the fact that most of my thinner weight has been from 2MAD. She didn't say anything against it. She did say she would send me some ideas little tips to help me do better. I have one question about the Wellbutrin. I can't find my Formulary. That is an old drug. Do you know if it is an expensive drug? We are having tilapia for lunch and I guess I will make a salad. I use light salad dressings because I don't like using fat free when I can get light. This is not only low carb, low fat, but also supposed to be cholesterol lowering too. Carol Sue, DS just pretty much eats what she likes and has used their guidelines to find what she likes to eat or can substitute for what she does like. I am allowed to drink Zero Power aid so I will make that a treat each day. |
Yay on the 211 Trish!
|
I made it to 41 hours - wow! That was with unexpected challenges to boot. The effort really showed on the scale as it was a half a pound below my recent lowest weight. That's two and a half pounds lower than my posted current weight. Hope it stays until weigh in day.
|
Pipsicle WOW 41 hs that is awesome!!! :congrat: I don't think I could ever go that long. It wasn't easy for me to fast the 18 hrs I did today. You go girl. Fingers crossed for the weight lost is gone forever.
I got my goal plans from the Bariatric Solutions and DH finally was able to pull it up and print it out for me. The do have me down for 3 small meals and 2 snacks and exercise to be walking and biking. Food goals are 1-2 fruit servings, 5 - 7 servings vegetables a day. Breakfast is to be a high protein of 15 -20 grams and the 2 snacks are to be high protein snacks. I am to limit liquid calories and drink sugar free options. 64 ounces of water a day and 1100 to 1500 calories/70 - 80 grams protein each day. This is a doable plan. They don't really give me a limited amount of carbs but I will work at that myself. I wasn't able to eat all the calories today. Since I can't get on their app for some reason, I am using MFP and printing out the info to turn in when I go for my appointment. My calories are way low today because I couldn't work in all those calories today so I came up short. My calories at the end of the day was 950. |
Trish that sounds doable but I have never known you to eat 1500 calories. Do the best you can to stay within their guide lines. I would not want to eat beyond my hunger but who knows how this works? What I'm doing certainly isn't working so I don't have a better solution.
WTG Pipsicle!!! |
Carol Sue DS says her calories are usually between 1000 and 1100. She eats only when hungry and doesn't try to push more. I will try to do a couple of small meals and maybe 1 or 2 snacks of protein, but I'm not going to push myself to over eat just to reach someone else's idea of how many calories I should eat. I will probably save the 1500 calories for special occasions as a rare high calorie day, but will never strive to reach it. I don't even think I need Wellbutrin to curb my appetite because I didn't get hungry using the pills so I don't expect to get hungry on the shots. I still want to work in a way to do this along with IF and IE.
