Mad the mention of you soup makes me want to ask about your comment that eating carbs rolls back Your progress. Does that happen for you with vegetable carbs? I know of others who stay away from root vegetables but they have always helped me with regularity. I may lose faster without them but they don't seem to effect me the same way as refined carbs.

I made DH get more mouse traps yesterday and he caught another mouse in the basement already. I will make hin continue putting the traps out until we don't catch them anymore. I knew there couldn't be only one. Yuk!

My foot is killing me. Not the same foot as last time. Its the bone on the inside of the foot right above the arch. I read up about it. It is a syndrome that usually requires surgery. I am very pain prone. Probably inflammation. I took the arch supports out of my shoes and took pain meds and it feels a little better. Hope it goes away like the other pain did. It just moves around from place to place.

FBS was 127 this morning making 2 days in the 120s. Weight bounced back up to 219.2 but that isn't unusual for me to bounce before I go lower and this is the 1st day of a new week for my WI.
I think exercise does play a big part of this plan and also not eating 3 meals and 3 snacks. I have struggled with that over the years and now I remember the only thing Dr. Berg disagreed on with Atkins' diet is the fact that they are allowed to eat snacks. Otherwise, it seems to be a good diet. Carol Sue I'm glad you mentioned the veggies. Dr. Berg says we should be eating 7 veggies a day rather than the 5 fruits and veggies that the SAD recommends. So I think as long as you are eating some form of IF you are good. I think it just takes time for all this to come together for us. For one thing we are a little older and had the weight a little longer. JMHO fatmad I think you are right about the exercise being more of chore etc. I thought about what Daddy told me how things were when he was growing up on the farm. He said they got up and went out and milked the cows and fed the farm animals and got morning chores done before they ate anything. While they were doing that his grandmother was in the house and cooking a big breakfast for everybody as well as some of the farm hands. When they got through with farm chores, they came in and had breakfast. Then after breakfast and the women got things cleared away, I've heard how even the women went out and worked in the fields. Daddy's grandmother loved working in the fields. Of course women that didn't like working in the fields did the house work and like you said their house work was nothing like what we have now. Even I remember having to go with Mama to the laundromat and they had the old ringer washer and three tubs for washing, bluing and 2 rinses. Then we brought the clothes home and hung them on the line. It got a bit easier when Mama got a washer, but you still had to hang the clothes on the line and bring them in when they dried. When I married DH#, I actually washed clothes by hand and hung them on the line, swept and mopped everyday and cooked 3 meals a day for him and the kids. This is when I went from eating OMAD to 3 and here came the weight back on. Now I wash some dishes as they get day and put some dishes in the dishwasher that gets run once a week. I wash clothes 3 days a week. I only cook 1 meal a day. DH does the vacuums most of the time and I sweep and mop once or twice a week depending on whether it needs it or not being just 2 of us. I have to force myself to exercise at least 3 or 4 days a week. However, I was watching one of the drs last night and realized the importance of getting rid of cortisol and I think if I remember right I read somewhere yrs ago that the best way to control that is exercise. I hope knowing that along with how it helps bring down insulin that it might get me to be more faithful with the exercise. Pipscile It was good to hear from you and that you appetite is improving. I'm sorry you are having to find another doctor. It is so difficult to find one these days that isn't wanting to push meds at us even as just a prevention. The interesting thing is that my DS doctor who I wanted to get but he wasn't taking anew patients, doesn't push prevention meds on you. I hope that my doctor will be glad we don't need them. Going to see Daddy today even though I'm having Bible Study tonight. I haven't decided what to eat because I don't want anything heavy because I don't want to be sleepy or bloated feeling when I go. Daddy is feeling better. He said he just woke up disoriented and seems fine now. Not sure what that means. I don't know if it could be demensia or what. Y'all have a great day and stay warm. We thought it was going to warm up this week but they changed it and it is going to be in 50s during the day and 30s at night. Knowing we are going to have 3 digit #s in late summer, we don't complain but the cooler weather lasting a little longer. |
I had a good ski for about an hour, but it was very cold. I had to wrap my scarf around my head, my toque didn't quite cover my ears and I was worried about frostbite. That did the trick, even though its just a silk scarf that helped enough, and still kept the wind from my throat.
But I got a blister on one foot. So I am not sure about skiing tomorrow, will see if a bandaid will do for it. I can always hang out at a scandanave spa. They have these hot pools you can get in and out of. Spend the day. If DH thinks he wants to ski all day I may see about it. It IS reading week for the college students here, so they may be booked up. We will go out for ribs tonight before DH starts the night skiing. That is something that's on my eating plan anyhow. With a bit of slaw that should be great. Carol: glad you are getting the mice, they are kind of a fact of life with country living I always think. But I agree, they are gross. Trish, hope things are good with your Dad and I am glad you are close by to him these days. Have a good evening friends. |
Mad, mice are NOT a fact of life for me. We are in suburbia, not country, and I haven't had experience with them since the ones we had in our old house when I was a kid. I am just not used to little furry creatures. LOL I didn't even like when my step-children had hamsters.
Trish, thank you very much for the link. His talks are very interesting. I noticed the one about Insulin Resistance was from 2 years ago and he did not come right out and say the same thing DR Fung said but he seemed to avoid going into details. I think this was before they found out what was really going on. My eating was very good today and my blood sugar stayed low without G. I am hoping my fasting is good for my blood work tomorrow. I hope I remember not to drink coffee when I get up! |
I am so amazed at my blood sugar today. It was 92 at 4AM but 142 at 10:30. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, and 1 slice of low calorie toast, then for dinner I had a stuffed pepper, stuffed with ground beef and a small amount of brown rice, and a few bites of mashed potatoes. When I ate dinner my BS was 102. Right now, 4 hours later, it is 109. I thought the mashed potatoes and rice would bring it up at least a little bit. I am a little hungry right now but I won't eat anything because I want to have a decent fasting number tomorrow. I sure hope the DP bug doesn't come along and bite me. I shouldn't have a lot of stored glucose.
|
Well, FBG is 113 now at 5:45. Will probably go for my bloodwork around 8 so I hope it doesn't go any higher. I am so hungry because I know I can't eat or even have coffee. I hope they are not crowded. After that we are going to the senior breakfast buffet. That's the only time we go there, after bloodwork a couple times a year. Then to Walmart. DH wants some new lights for the basement. These lights are really bright. I told him I will need sunglasses to do the laundry. LOL
Wt down to 182. Just can't seem to get to the 170 s. Bbl |
Hope the blood work went well for you Carol.
No weight today. The hotel didn't work so well. the heater was loud and came on very frequently. Between lack of sleep and the blister from yesterday i didn't want to ski. DH did about 2.5 hours and I read while he was skiing. However, my waist is now at 33 inches and maybe even less. That was this afternoon, its usually less in the morning. Trish: how are things going with TRE and IF for you? And how is your father? Have a good day friends. |
FBS this morning before BPC was 138 and weight down to 217. That isn't bad since we stopped and got chicken tenders and coleslaw since we stayed a little longer than planned visiting with Daddy. He always loves visiting with DH because they talk about airplanes and flying. Even the gentleman in the room with him chimed in answering one of DH questions about planes during WW2.
fatmad I'm getting into a routine of IF. Most of the time, I'm fasting about 19 to 20 hrs, but yesterday was an 8 hr eating window, but by the time we eat today, I will still get about 18 hrs of fasting. Drinking ACV cocktail 2 to 3x a day with 1st one in the morning and then 2 cups of BPC makes it so easy for me to do the 2 Meals within 4 or 5 hrs. So I am doing fine. I exercised on the bike this morning while talking to DD and got my 30 minutes done. It makes doing 30 minutes so easy when visiting. I did use my weights while doing it to get metabolism revved up and tried to do some fast/slow alternate speeds since they came that works better at getting longer benefit of burning fat. The younger girls were talking about that at the Bible study last night. We had a very good visit with Daddy yesterday although he still gets confused about the car and why he doesn't have it any more. I talked to him this morning and he was fine. DS just called and he called her confused again about him being out there. She called the office and they are going to have the drs helper take a blood test to see if he is has a kidney infection again. They said when they get confused like that it usually means they have an infection. They told DS that he jokes with them so much that they don't know when he is confused or just joking with them. Carol Sue I hope your bloodwork goes well. I think you are going to get a really good A1c this time. I'm cooking cod fish today. It is so much easier cooking these days. We usually have a nice salad, a meat protein and a veggie. Evening meal is usually a snack of cheese and mixed nuts. Grocery shopping should be less than usual since neither of us eats until 3ish. I don't eat eggs and bacon much any more because I don't eat breakfast. Y'all have a great day. |
Bloodwork went well. I was in and out in a few minutes. If they had been crowded I could have gone to another place but I have to pay a copay there. I won't have my results until my Dr appt. on Thursday.
We went to the breakfast buffet and I ate a lot! I am not hungry for dinner. So it was a OMAD day. I also have indigestion so my body is not used to that much food and different food. Still reading Obesity Code and getting some surprises. I also watched some more of Dr Bergs videos. I don't usually like watching videos. I prefer to read. But his videos are short. He said the best IF for weight loss is 4:20. I also read somewhere that people with a heart valve problem should not fast but I think they mean extended fasts which I don't do. I think I'm ok. Yesterday on the Doctors they showed someone having the valve surgery that I need. It looked relatively simple compared to open heart. She was awake through it and they said it took less than 90 minutes! I still don't know if I will have it. They have to decide if you are a candidate. It is for people who are too old and not in good enough health for open heart but eventually all will be able to do it. I wish they did it at our hospital. Glad you had a good visit with Dad Trish. Sorry you didn't get to ski Mad. |
Carol: I forgot about answering you question about vegetable carbs. Low carb and Keto teaching would suggest "vegetables that grow above the ground" are negligible in terms of carbs, but below ground/root vegetables are higher in starch, and do count. And maybe it depends on the person. I have to be careful with beets/borscht because they are naturally sweet, and I love them and could eat a lot, really overeat.
I did well with it yesterday, having a nice bowl and having it with cheese and just the Mary's seed crackers i put on the plate. Nothing more. A little starchier than usual. But I was exercising at least. I will see if I go to see my cousin tomorrow, we are getting freezing rain tomorrow. I will check the timing of the weather when I get up in the morning. Hope weather is good for the rest of you. |
We were supposed to get snow starting around 2 am then a warm up and changing to a wintry mix then to all rain. Right now it looks like we only got a slight dusting. Our forecasts are for a large area and they might have had more north or south of us.
My blood sugar was only 109 but I think I'm up before the DP. But I noticed my pain level is low. Legs feel pretty good. I'm starting to see a connection. I woke up and couldn't fall back to sleep so the Obesity Code started calling me. My quiet time before DH gets up. It would be nice ice if we could get on the same sleep cycle. I blame it on his coffee habit. He drinks it in the evening and I think he can't fall asleep until the effect wears off. I'm dozing off at 9pm. |
Mad I have heard the low carb teachings regarding the veggies above ground versus below ground. But reading Dr Joel Fuhrman he says that the fiber and nutrients greatly offset the effects of the starch. Also even in Obesity Code Dr Fung noted that there are countries where a large source of their food is veggies such as yams the rate of Diabetes and obesity was low until the western diet was introduced. I didn't get fat or develop diabetes from eating too many root vegetables and I don't think you did either. But we are all different and the beets could certainly effect you differently than they do me. When my eating gets off track it's not veggies that are the problem. Actually last night both DH and I wanted ice cream but neither of us wanted to go out to get it. Laziness kept me on track! LOL
|
LOL Carol: I agree, carbs from any veggies are better than from ice cream and other treats. And yes, beets improve regularity, so they must be full of fibre.
But reactions are individual, and I find these and most starchy foods do make me crave MORE. I could have eaten a whole pot of that borscht. Instead I carefully heated up a set amount and gave myself a set amount of other food. Back to the old portion size stuff. In this case it worked, because afterward we packed up the car and left for skiing, I didn't snack in the car, and then had some strenuous exercise. Also the size of the serving was satisfying in every way. I got to sleep by 11 pm last night and slept well until after 4, but now am up like you. I hope to get a bit more sleep and decide about going out of town to see my cousin today or tomorrow, weather depending. Right now it looks like the wintry mix will hit here about 11 am. If I leave early enough to get to her and get back by 11, I would be driving in rush hour. ugh. |
