DH isn't doing very well with the Ozempic although he isn't having potty issues so far. He just can't eat or drink much of anything because he feels so stuffed he feels like he wants to throw up. So not sure he can take it as this is the lowest dose. We sure don't want him to get dehydrated. I will have to cal PA Monday. We won't be going to church tomorrow with him feeling like this and being in a new church we haven't joined, I won't go without him.

I had my regular eggs, bacon, toast and 1/2 banana this morning. I have a small beef stew/soup on the stove top for my late lunch. I just may do a 2 meals and a snack today within 8 hr window.

I changed out my scale this morning a replaced it with DH Mother's scale, It isn't digital but it weighs the same as doctor's scale which is higher than the digital that bounces around so much lately that I don't really trust it any more. I figure I might as well accept the doctor's weight and go from there. So it shows me 223 this morning which is probably more accurate than docs 224 since I had no clothes on this morning. LOL I don't like the higher # but I will use it. It is what it is and I am just starting over using the old WW Simply filling way of eating except that I don't count any points at all. I am keeping a journal and using mostly fruits, veggies and protein, but limited MG and dairy. I think I can do it with just 3 meals or 2 meals and a snack within approx. 8 hrs daily along with my exercise. I did add some sea salt with iodine to my cooking, although I won't use the salt shaker after cooking. I will continue the exercise I have started.

My FBG was 157 but no surprise there.

fatmad Strange thing is that I notice when I lose the weight, I have no joint pain either. So definitely losing the weight will help that.

Carol Sue I got to the place in the SC home that I didn't do the stairs other than the steps up into my house. Sometimes they were difficult, but I was able to do them. It was not easy when I had to carry groceries into the house though.

BBL

Wannabehealthy 02-02-2019 07:52 PM

Right now, I think the solution to my problem with the stairs is to do as much as I can to strengthen my legs so I don't have this problem any longer. That is my goal. In the meantime I can go back to wearing my elastic knee braces and continue taking the supplements that are supposed to work. I don't think I am beyond help yet.

I am open to moving but DH is not. I wish I had pushed more when that house up the street was for sale. But I didn't and now it's too late. I will work something out. If anything, it will probably be a stair lift. I don't care about the cost. If I need it, I need it. I don't feel there is anywhere to put an elevator. Our house is small to begin with. With DH not doing as well as he was before, we really had a difficult time bringing groceries in today. We each bring one bag up at a time, or two if they are really light. Milk is difficult. We really need to be holding the hand rails. Lots of trips up and down the stairs. A power dumb waiter would be great! Even with a stair lift, more than one trip would be needed to bring in the groceries.

Trish, I'm sorry to hear that your DH is having trouble with his new meds. That's the thing about new meds. You never know how your body is going to react. Really, I feel that the best treatment for Diabetes is diet and exercise. But unfortunately that's not for everyone either. I think you are doing great considering you are not taking meds.

Wannabehealthy 02-03-2019 08:21 AM

I was taking Vit D because I figured with the absence of sun here along with the fact that I spend so little time outside there is no way my levels are good even though I've never been tested. I was taking 5000iu 5 days a week. I chose that dose because my friends Dr prescribed it for her. I ran out and recently decided to start taking it again. I mistakenly picked up 1000iu instead of 5000. So I am taking 2000 every day which is a little less over all. I don't know if I should take 5 5 days a week or stick with this. I guess I can always just go back to the 5000 when this bottle is empty. I don't really see any difference when I take it. I don't know what to look for. Also I am disappointed that I was not more careful when I bought it.

fatmad 02-03-2019 10:19 AM

the vitamin D has been used to prevent osteoporosis, but has not been very effective for this.
Another use is to prevent depression, especially SAD (seasonal affective disorder) that is depression that occurs in the winter partly due to lack of sunlight.
it is quite effective for this use.
SO it may be helping your mood.
Because it is a fat soluble vitamin, it takes a while to take effect and takes a while to notice the effect of not having it, you will use up the stores first.

I would suggest you stay on a good dose. You don't get outside much, especially in this weather. I would not suggest a particular dose but I think taking it would be good for you in general.

I overate last night. And had a drink and some corn chips and guacamole at midnight, so my eating window went out the window. (It was a tough evening)
Planning OMAD today.
And maybe a fast tomorrow. Gotta get back to where I was again.
Have a good day friend.s

pattygirl63 02-03-2019 10:31 AM

fatmad Glad you got to talk to your DD. Now that my DD has a regular cell phone service and unlimited talking minutes, we are able to talk 2 or 3 sometimes 4 times a week depending on how busy we are and having time. I'm the one who is usually busier than she is, but I hated it when she had the government issued phone because we could only text and that isn't my favorite way of chatting.

Carol Sue Just think of the stairs exercise you are getting on the days you go to the grocery store. I think it will help the knees, but do be careful. I used to go walk up and down the stairs in SC just to exercise my legs. We had rails put in on both sides so I could hold on to both and walk up and down. Bringing groceries in was a chore and still is because of the long walk to the kitchen, but here no stairs.

FBS was 145 this morning. DH didn't like the non-digital scales so I put them back. We've never worried about the doctor's scales because we are weighing with so many clothes and DH is a normal man who for some reason thinks they have to carry a ton of keys of which he has no idea what they all go to. We always laugh that he would weigh 10 lbs less if he took them out of his pocket. We women want to take off everything. Also I just remember that I may have weighed so much more on his scales because I had on my heavy tennis shoes because it was so cold. I usually wear sandles. I couldn't really read the regular scales very well without my glasses so back on the digital today and weight was 221.6 which isn't great but isn't bad.

I am fasting today. Not sure if it will be all day or a OMAD type fast, but I've made some drastic decisions. I thought about it and prayed about it most of the night. I am not on any medicine "because I need it", but I am on those medications for "Prevention". So I'm going to, at least, temporarily discontinue the meds. I've decided that there is so much good that comes from Fasting. It is even being used these days for healing certain ailments. I'm a person who if I think I have to eat then I try to work in the foods that are good for me and end up eating more than I need. This has always been my problem on any diet or food plan that I followed except IE.

When I did I originally did IE, I was doing a form of IF because I just didn't get hungry. I usually ate OMAD because I had to cook for DH. I did do pretty good on Atkins at one time, but once I eat off, I usually find it hard to go back to it.

Any way, I am going to do more IF with IE original guidelines. If you are hungry, eat what you want not what you think you should be eating and only eat as much as it takes to satisfy that hunger. This eliminated over eating and binges for me. I personally think this is the only way to eat and eat healthy. I lived like this for so many years of my life. When I think back to when I was young and ate this way, I don't think I ever got under 150 lbs, but 150 lbs now would mean that the diabetes and other health issues would correct themselves. I'm not going to put a time limit on how long it takes me to get there and I'm not going to worry about what foods I want to eat. I honestly believe the IF/IE will work as I mostly like healthier foods any way. Any way this is my plan.

Today I am fasting long enough to learn what "real" hunger feels like because I think I have forgotten that. I'm blessed not to have any long lasting health problems and as I lose weight I will feel more like being more active. I read that you don't have to do formal exercise. Just doing chores is exercise. I figure getting my house organized and working to really keep it clean is exercise along with my days to the grocery store. I said I need more hours in a day and not dealing with food and cooking all the time will free up a few more hours.

Y'all have a nice Sunday. I figure here in the USA most men and a lot of women will be watching the Super Bowl game. Hey it's football and that is all they want to see even if they don't care who wins. LOL

pattygirl63 02-03-2019 10:37 AM

Carol Sue I forgot to mention that we used to take 5000mg a day after DH was on mega D3 prescription and the doc said just take the supplement. I took it because I read that it was hard to lose weight if you didn't get enough. I buy mine at Walmart too and sometimes at HEB grocery, but I can't even find the 5000 any more here. We can get 2000mg so that is what we take.

Weather is warming up here and we get the sunlight pretty strong in our living room so the doom and gloom days will be over here sooner than they were in SC.

Pipsicle 02-03-2019 11:49 AM

Bad numbers all around this week. The successes I have had (eating better foods and less junk food) just aren't enough and my focus is awful. I have bought a small inexpensive ring I can wear to help remind me that I am work on improving my health. Unfortunately for me it is Girl Scout cookies season and we have about 20 cases (240 boxes) of cookies in our house right now. I would like to eat only when I feel hungry. However, my body is a liar and tells me I am super hungry even after I have just eaten. Working hard on pulling it together so I can have a good result next week. Hope everyone has a good week!

Wannabehealthy 02-03-2019 01:45 PM

Pipsicle I believe I am a compulsive overeater. Hunger has nothing to do with it. Sometimes I'm eating something I don't even like much but I eat it because it is there. This sounds like what you are talking about. Our bodies learned this somewhere along the line. I am learning how to change that but I'm not always good at it. I fall down but I get up and keep going. If I don't it won't be pretty.

Mad I don't usually get SAD but I think this year DH's mishap contributed

Trish I was in Wal-Mart today and looked at the Vit-D. Most of what I saw was 1000iu and some were 2000iu. Fin ally I spotted some 5000. I didn't buy it. I will use what I have first. I was reading about it today. The article said 4000iu is the max you should take but you would have to go way over that to be toxic. So I think my 5000iu 5 days a week is good.

DH wanted an air fryer so we bought an air fryer toaster oven combo. My toaster oven is too small and cheap. This is bigger and I will get more use from it. I will give my old one away.

Trish I agree with all you said 100%. If you eat what you want most of what you like is healthy food. Its not as if you are going to fill up on donuts and ice cream. And you don't have to eat a set number of calories or a set number of times a day. That is diet mentality and has our thinking all out of whack. Naturally thin people never think about those things. I believe you will do great with this!

pattygirl63 02-03-2019 03:10 PM

Pipsicle So sorry you are having problems, but I agree with everything Carol Sue said. We all have to find our own path/way. A lot of people have cheat days, but not sure I can have those because it takes me forever to get back OP. Just be patient and keep at it and you will finally make it work for you.

Carol Sue I think 4000 mg of D3 would work for me although I'm just taking 2000mg right now.

Looks like I will fast until lunch. DH got up and wants to eat a meal. He has chosen chipped beef or we will half a lasagna we buy that he likes for days like today when I didn't plan anything and everything is frozen. Both of these are pre-packaged 1 serving that we divide. I will give him most of it and add a salad and veggies. He says he can't eat cauliflower at night with this shot and so he will eat it earlier in the day as a side dish for lunch which will be nice because I like it too and gives me another veggie for him at meal time. I hope this works out because his FBS was 145 today. So the shot obviously works if he eats carefully. Fingers crossed that maybe he can take it.

Fasting until 3 today and I was freezing even my toes which makes no sense because temperature out side is in 60 with high of 70 and it was supposedly 71 in the living room. Remembering that Dr. Fung recommends drinking broth while fasting, I made some from a beef bouillion cube I had. I drank a cup of it and warmed right up. I guess until my sodium gets built back up, I just may have to drink this. I've always used those instant granules and hated broth, but making this from the cubed ones and boiling it a little sure made it more tasty. Obviously my problem is just the low sodium because it not only warmed me up but I perked right up too. I'm glad to know this because I want to at least get back to my 5 hr or 8 hr eating window.

Wannabehealthy 02-03-2019 03:38 PM

Trish, why can't your DH eat his cauliflower at night with the new med? I'm just curious about that. Maybe it will take a few days of the new med until his body get used to it. I hope so.

fatmad 02-04-2019 05:12 AM

Pipsicle: I understand how difficult it is at times. Dr. Fung explains that calorie reduction may just lower metabolism making it ever harder to lose weight, so even though you are eating better you may not be able to lose. Toss in the tendency to overeat at times, and a little slip seems to undo everything you have done to get healthier. All I can suggest is working your way into an 8, then 6 hour eating window, until you are ready to start having longer fasts. Keep moving your eating habits into healthy ones, and keep the junk out of the house.
NO judgement on my part, truly.
Last night with DD here, she and DH decided on chicken wings and to watch the Super Bowl. No party, just the 3 of us. We baked the wings, and used a commercial sauce, that was not too many calories or anything. We had lots of veggies with it. But I had trouble after that to stop eating. I had a bedtime snack too. So While my eating window was ok with 8 hours, I didn't actually OMAD yesterday as planned.
Will fast today, that will be easier.
I find not eating easier sometimes than doing eating "right"

I was out the other night for an event to support a midwife on Saturday. Saw many colleagues who have not seen me in ages. They ALL commented on my weight loss, because it IS dramatic if you haven't seen me in a long time. They laughed when I talked about "not eating" as the way I lost weight. Then I explained it. No one said I was crazy or unsafe, which is interesting, because that sometimes happens. Instead they wanted to know how to do while working. There are several who struggle with weight issues, and they seemed genuine.

It warmer here now, above the freezing point.

Trish: although the new scale has different numbers, it doesn't take away from the fact that you have been losing although slowly. Take heart. Hope you are feeling better and less tired soon.
Hello to Carol, and our lurking friends.

Have a good start to the week.

Wannabehealthy 02-04-2019 10:00 AM

Mad I agree about not eating being easier at times and that is often discussed in fasting threads.

I used to fast back in the 70 s. But I would fast on weekends never while working. Back then it was considered an eating disorder. I lived alone and also had little money so it was easy. I would often sleep to keep from eating. I think for me it WAS bordering on an eating disorder. I never told anyone.

I slept for 9+ hours last night. Most was after DH got up This am. I needed it after only 3 hours the night before.

FBG was 116. That could be why I slept so well. I ate a very small dinner and allowed BS to come down naturally.

pattygirl63 02-04-2019 12:20 PM

Running late on everything I like to do before DH gets up, because I slept in. I am bad about heading to bed and seeing little chore that need to be done and doing them so went to bed later than I wanted. DH was up most of the night so hopefully he will rest a little longer himself.

fatmad I don't think it matters about the scale I use. It is just me. As I cleaned up the digital and placed it back in place, of course I was bending down and the thought came into my head that it was an idol I was bowing down to. I realized this morning that I let that thing have too much power over me. I weighed 224 at the doctor's office with all my clothes on and I had eaten breakfast, but no lunch. I usually fast until after my doctor's appointments, but decided not to do that because I wanted to stay OP and on schedule. And like I said I had on my heavier shoes. I weight 3 or 4 lbs heavier at 2 pm from the 220 something that morning. I got myself in a tizzy over nothing. Even this morning after fasting and only 1 meal and a snack yesterday when I saw the 221.2 on my scale I was upset until I wrote it down recording it and found that I had not gained, but was actually down .4 lbs from yesterday. I am just so upset that I got off and let my self gain when I had just got back down to 215 over a week ago. I just need to settle down do what I know to do and trust the plan.

I guess I am a 1 meal and 1 snack person within a 5 or 6 hr eating window person and I will stick to that. I ended up having a small snack last night and was finished with it within the 5 hr eating window. I decided today since I am going to Bible study tonight to eat breakfast at 10:30 and I will cook cod fish for our lunch and do my best not to eat anything else tonight. I won't get home till after 8 so it will be past 8 hr window so I don't want to mess things up. Hopefully I can get back on a 5:19 IF ratio again.

Carol Sue DH usually eats half a bag of cauliflower with his cheeses in it just before going to bed which I've always suspected makes his FBS to be kind of high any way. He hasn't been able to eat much because the shot makes the food slow down going down. He already has a slow digestive system because of a narrowing in the tube entering into his stomach that he has had to have stretched in the past. BIL has the same problem and DS told me they won't stretch it more than every 5 yrs because it causes scar tissue. Any way, yesterday he decided that he would eat just a little bit in the evening when his other food goes down. I think he will be able to eat it in smaller amounts but will have to figure it out as it will have to replace some of his snacking I'm sure.

My FBS was 143 this morning. I did have my eggs, bacon, toast and toast this morning and will I will eat something light around 3. I don't want to go feeling stuffed to the Bible study.

I got to get busy around here. Y'all have a great day.

Wannabehealthy 02-04-2019 02:17 PM

Trish, I believe in using the same scale all the time, as long as it's working properly. If you get on and off it 4 or 5 times and get a different number each time then something might be wrong with it, but don't change based on another scale. You would definately weigh more after eating and fully clothed, and also later in the day. That is just for the DR's records, and unless it is a big difference from last time, I don't think they notice. Don't assume the doctor's scale is correct. Those scales have to be calibrated regularly and who knows if they do that? Like I said, they only care if there is a big gain or loss, which could be a sign of a medical problem. Don't change your scale based on theirs. I mostly wear shoes that are slip ons, especially when I go to the DR and I always slip them off when I get on the scale. I also have an outfit that I call my "going to the doctor" outfit. It is very light weight pants and a light weight tee shirt. LOL I still have it, but I no longer insist on wearing it to the doctor's. I don't know if they noticed I always had on the same clothes. LOL I mostly wear my tie sneakers when exercising.

If 1 meal and 1 snack is what you're body needs, then that's what you should have. The snack could actually be just a very small meal.

DH is a creature of habit. Once he starts doing something, it is almost impossible for him to change. During the 3 weeks he was in the hospital he could not sleep and he got into the habit of watching TV all night, since he did not have a roommate. He cannot break that habit. He sleeps a lot during the day, and is up all night watching TV but he watches in our bedroom. We have a 47" TV in there and it sure puts off a lot of light! It's like trying to sleep on the beach on a sunny day. I thought he would stop doing that after a while but he's not. Sometimes he falls asleep, but if I turn the TV off it wakes him up and he gets mad and turns it back on. I wish he would stay out in the living room to watch tv but he won't. I just might have to start sleeping in the spare room, but I would have to move my CPap and all in there. It doesn't even have a real bed, but just a folding bed that DGS sleeps on when he's here. But if I can sleep, it will be worth the move. He keeps the sound turned down, but it's all that light that is the problem. It was really great getting that sleep after he got up today.

pattygirl63 02-04-2019 03:30 PM

Carol Sue I agree about the scales. The main reason I stayed with the digital is that I can read it and I think I need the .10ths that it shows. I need to know that I dropped .4 lbs today as it makes me feel good about it moving downward. I had that mini drop with the scale and 2 pts drop on FBS which is good for me.

DH has always stayed up most of the night and I used to get upset about it, but it has actually turned out to work nicely for us. I learned to turn that into my "me" time. Many times I got up to check on him when we lived in SC and he was asleep so I finally learned to live with it. He worked night for almost 20 yrs and just never got out of the habit. It would really be an adjustment for me to get used to him being up in the mornings if it ever changes. It is a shame that your DH can't watch tv in the living room. If the sound doesn't bother you maybe you could get a mask that people use for daytime sleep. You would just have to remember you have it on when you get up to go to the toilet during the night. LOL
