Trish, we went to the casino today. The buffet was much better than it was lasts time, even though the steak is still terrible for some reason. They usually had very good steak. It's small pieces but you can take as much as you want. These past couple times it looked different, and has a lot of marinate seasoning on it, like they bought it that way, or are trying to cover up the fact that it's not as good as what they used to serve. I didn't have any meat at all because nothing appealed to me. I had 3 shrimp, a piece of fried catfish and a piece of smoked salmon. That was all good. Plus broccoli, carrots and mac and cheese. DH got a piece of coconut cream pie and didn't eat it all so I had a couple bites of that. It's been 5 hours since we've eaten and blood sugar is 130. Not where it should be, but not bad for me. Getting better all the time.
My pain level was fine all day. I also notice that when I take the pain pill I'm still a little wobbly with walking, but with the Turmeric I am back to normal. I hope this continues. I will continue with 1 capsule a day unless the pain comes back then I will take more. I'm glad to hear your visit with your Dad went well. Those exercise sessions will be good for him. |
thanks for all sharing

Going to the casino makes me so tired. I think it's the long drive home. We were having a downpour on the way home. Very nervewracking. DH says it makes you good and tired so you will sleep good, but it does not. I guess I get too keyed up and can't relax and I'm dragging the next day. When I'm tired, I eat poorly. That doesn't bode well for my Monday morning doctor's appointment.
I took a Turmeric before bed. Still had more pain this morning than yesterday. Something else must be coming into play but I'm not sure what it was. I think I need to start paying attention to what I eat and how I feel afterwards to see if something is affecting it. Took another Turmeric this morning and might take another one before the day is over. I am a forum junkie. I read a lot of forums, and it's surprising how many people are having pain such as this. Something is causing it. We are not supposed to have pain. If you hurt yourself, yes, there will be pain. But not waking up in the morning with pain that you didn't have when you went to bed. It's not my mattress. DH thinks it's chemicals in the environment. He feels that the contrails caused by jet airplanes has something to do with it. Probably automobile exhaust fumes, too. It has to go somewhere. |
Henrys You are welcome. We would love for you to come out of lurking sometime and share with us.
Carol Sue It sounds like the Casino must have a new chef or else he is trying to do something different. I'm glad you could get the salmon and the veggies. Sounds like the Turmeric is working too. It obviously is a good quality product. I hope it continues to help. The new pills are already working. My fingers are better today. So the Omega 7 is already helping. The Blood Sugar Support is working too because my FBS was 137 this morning down from 158 yesterday and I had a little bit of watermelon and honeydew with nuts for a snack to take the second blood sugar pill so I could get a whole day's dose in. I am very please. It is certifies GMP (don't remember what that means except I heard you get better quality with that seal), GMO free and a seal that says it is made in a FDA manufacturing facility. I am still taking the Berberine too. I am very happy with the results from one day. Some people said both these new pills help with weight loss. The blood sugar pill curbs appetite. I really think it did too. I didn't even take the fluid pill last night and one of these pills had me running to the bathroom all night. No weight loss so I figure it was getting rid of all the sodium from the taco mix I ate yesterday. Have a good day. |
I just saw this in an article I got and I know we low carbers eat a lot of cheese and some are lactose sensitive even. I didn't know this about cheddar cheese so I thought I would share this link about it.
https://www.nutritionadvance.com/che...ese-nutrition/ |
Cheddar is too strong flavored for me. I only like mild cheeses, like Mozzarella. DH says mozzarella has no flavor. LOL A lot on the low carb forums won't eat cheese or other dairy because it stalls them.
We just got a call that DH's brother in NV had a heart attack yesterday. He's OK. They put in a stent. We're all getting older. I think he is mid 60s. DH isn't home. He can call his SIL when he gets home and get the details. I'm glad your supplements came and are working well for you, Trish. We need to do what helps us. I am so tired. I tried to take a little nap but could not fall asleep. It's probably best that I didn't because then I might not sleep again tonight. Maybe I will take some Tylenol or Benadryl to help out. I don't want another sleepless night. |
Weight and FBS up a little, but I took the pills different yesterday and I also ate more. Friday I took the berberine with my coffee as Dr. Julian Whitaker says and then when I left the beauty shop drank 1 High Protein Slimfast on the way to the see Daddy. When I got home and got the mail the Omega 7 and the Blood Sugar Support pills were in the mail box. I was excited be cause I got it in time to take the 1 Omega 7 with lunch and the BSS pill before 1 meal and 1 snack. I think this is the way I will have to take it from now on.
Yesterday I actually ate 3 meals and took the berberine and the BSS pill with coffee before breakfast. I actually forgot that I am supposed to take the BSS pill with a glass of water 20 - 30 minutes before eating and didn't do that when I took it before breakfast or lunch. Also I took the Omega 7 with breakfast. Then I was hungry for a salad but no protein so I made a salad and had it with Mayo and some cheese, but not a lot of cheese. I think I need to stick to 2 meals and maybe a snack each day. I also went over the 8 hrs. So I don't think the weight gain or the higher FBS has anything to do with the pills, but how I took it and how much I ate. I pushed it and now I know my limit. Besides, I did see where one woman said that the BSS pill will work for weight loss and lowering FBS but only if you keep your diet right. I've decided to try having the Slimfast drink for breakfast again today. I noticed Friday when I drank it that I felt great all morning until almost time for lunch. I had written Slimfast to ask them about using it for diabetics and they said that it only has 1 g sugar in it. So I feel safe using it. It isn't CAD but I do know from what some of them said on the FB site that some of them use it for their breakfast. Since it says on the bottle that it gives you long lasting energy I don't want to drink it in the evening like DH Mother used to do for a treat. So I'm thinking I will moved my eggs and bacon to evening snack and perhaps just eat 1 of each and have the Drink around 11 or even noon depending on what is going on that day. I won't take the Omega 3 till lunch like I did Friday and be sure to drink water with the BSS pill before lunch and evening snack. Carol Sue I hope you were able to sleep and get a good nights sleep. Hope everyone has a nice day. |
Trish, I took a Benadryl and slept all night, but it was not restful sleep. I won't do that again. Telenol helps me sleep but it is more restful. I thought the Benadryl would work with my allergy symptoms but I didn't feel good taking it. I used to take it with no problem.
I looked up the Slimfast online because I wanted to see the carb count, which is also 1. The fiber count is also impressive. Slim Fast High Protein Drink 20 g Protein - Advanced Nutrition Vanilla Cream Meal Replacement Shake Servings: Calories 180 Sodium 180 mg Total Fat 9 g Potassium 700 mg Saturated 2 g Total Carbs 1 g Polyunsaturated 0 g Dietary Fiber 5 g Monounsaturated 0 g Sugars 1 g Trans 0 g Protein 20 g Cholesterol 10 mg Vitamin A 40% Calcium 40% Vitamin C 110% Iron 15% *Percent Daily Values are based on a 2000 calorie diet. Your daily values may be higher or lower depending on your calorie needs. My BIL really needs to lose weight. He bought some Slim Fast but I don't see him using it properly. He overeats but denies it. He blames his weight on everything except his poor eating habits and won't listen to anyone. Sounds like me. LOL Using it for an evening treat is misuse, IMO. It is a meal replacement. That's like adding an extra meal to your day. A cup of sugar free jello would be a much better treat. Trish, if I drank a glass of water 30 min before my meal I would lose weight without the supplement, because it would make me full sooner. LOL My friend was on a supplement that she had to take at bedtime on an empty stomach and eat no sugar at all. I told her if I ate no sugar and went to bed with an empty stomach I would not be fat. LOL My BIL got a stent for his blocked artery but his Widowmaker artery is so blocked they were not able to open it. He has to recouperate from the heart attack and the first stent and then go back for them to do something with the other artery. I hope he goes back. My husband's family are the type that they don't go to get things taken care of until it's an emergency situation. I think his wife will make him go back. He has been having symptoms for a while now but didn't go to get it checked out until he finally had the heart attack. They said they can do a procedure to grind out the plaque on the badly blocked artery. Otherwise he might need bypass surgery. They can do so many new things nowdays, keeping us alive so we can spend out golden years in a nursing home. LOL I know, it's not funny. I am starting to lose track of how many Turmeric I am taking. I don't put it in my pill box. I can't remember if I took it when I got up so I just took another one. Achiness, but no actual pain like before. Maybe it will take some time to build up in my body. Tomorrow is the cardiologist. Have to remember to print out my list. They finally gave me refills for the pill I have to take for a year. That makes sense. They were requiring a call to the doctor each time I ordered it. Maybe they wanted to wait to see if I was able to take it without problems. It is costly, so I'm glad they are only giving me a 30 days supply at a time. DH is already asking what we are having for dinner. I am still full from breakfast. I overate. So now I just want a salad for dinner. Yesterday he refused to eat steak when I wanted to make it. Grrrrr |
Carol Sue, I had a similar problem with the Benadryl the last time I took it. In fact, I didn't think I was ever going to go to sleep and it didn't affect me like it usually does. Last night I decided to try Ibuprofin but it didn't work very well either. I guess I will just continue taking 2 Tylenol before bedtime. I figure taking just 2 a day isn't going to be a problem or at least I hope not.
DH Mother didn't eat much by the time I met her and she was in her late 80s. She would drink a cup soup for breakfast with coffee then eat whatever I cooked each day and then sometime in the evening she would have the Slimfast. Then she would snack on her chocolate candy and pretzels. She probably was using it as a meal replacement. I think it is a better product today than it was some 12 yrs ago. Well, I took the berberine this morning with my coffee. Then around 11:45 I drank the Slimfast with fruit in it which they show doing in the info I got from them when I took it years ago. I wasn't sure how I would do because I knew we were going to see Daddy and go to Walmart before I got home to cook dinner. I went 6 yrs before eating and my FBS that was 153 this morning had come down to 110 6 hrs later after the Slimfast. I really felt good after taking the Slimfast. We came home and had BLT for supper and I will not be eating anything else ending up with a 6 hr eating window. I think I will try this again tomorrow and see what happens. I don't know what it is about the Slimfast, but I had energy all day. This will save on my BSS pill because you only take 1 before you eat a meal. This morning when I called Daddy I couldn't understand half of what he said and he was complaining about everything. He apologized for complaining and I told him it was good to get his feeling off his chest. When DH and I went out to see him, he was coming out of his room going down to the Nurses station to see what snacks they had out there. The put snacks out around 3 for the patients to choose what they wanted. I knew as soon as I saw the little bag of chips that he would choose it. Then I suggested that we go outside and visit. They have a little square court yard that is closed in by the building surrounding it. We use to see people visiting others there when Daddy's other room looked over it. It was hot but a nice breeze off set the heat. We set out there about an hour then went back to his room with him before leaving. He really looked good and I think it was good for him to sit out there. They draw birds by lots of bird feeders out there and there are cardinals and bluebirds and finches flying around. We will do it again as long as the weather is nice enough. I hope your BIL will go have the artery cleaned out. Years ago Daddy had to have a carodid artery cleaned out. It was after he burned his arm and was on a pain pill that caused him to hallucinate. He passed out and they didn't know why and when they checked him out they found the blocked artery. Daddy always said that ordeal he went through saved his life. I saw the man today that wants to exercise Daddy. Daddy said the man is going to ask Monday if her can go get him at night (he works evening shift) when no one is using the therapy room and get him back to pulling up on the rails to keep him from losing the strength in his legs. I pray they will allow him to do that. Also I found a place on line that has info for seniors. I went on their website and wrote telling them Daddy's problem and ask if they know any of any programs out there that would help him. Just got a call from DS telling me Daddy slid into the floor trying to transfer to the toilet without help calling a nurse to help him. He is okay but has got to stop this. They told DS they told him last night that he was going to get hurt if he kept doing this. So guess I will go and call him. |
Trish, I just think your Dad is determined that he is going to get back to the way he was before, and that's why he's trying to do these things himself. I feel bad for him.
I have my list all typed up for the doctor of what I want to discuss and my new meds list. He is usually pretty good with answering my questions. I just hope he doesn't rush me through. We went out to eat and I got a mini chef salad. It was really good, and I also ate a piece of DH's pizza. That was good, too. I have had nothing since and I'm not hungry. I'm never hungry in the evening but I eat just because. I have had 2 bottles of water this evening. I am trying to dilute any sodium that might be in my body so my blood pressure isn't high tomorrow. I don't want any problem. I want everything to go smoothly. My appointment isn't until 11:20. I usually get an appointment first thing in the morning. It will be nice not to have to get up so early. I will be able to relax for a while. I am going to try to remember not to have any coffee when I get up because that will increase my blood pressure. All day DH has been telling me he can hear a high pitch whistle sound when he stands in a certain part of our living room. I don't hear it. I would think maybe he was having tinnitis but he doesn't hear it when he's in other rooms, or even in another part of the living room. He has been checking all sorts of things. I don't know why he hears it and I don't. Just now DH told me he doesn't hear the whistle anymore. LOL I never heard it in the first place. I wonder if one of our neighbors had something running and it was causing a vibration in our house. |
Carol Sue You are right. I also think that he thinks he can do it.
I called him and when he answered I said to him, "Why are you trying to sit in the floor?" He said "The chair was too hard". LOL I've learned to joke with him about things works better. I reminded him that this is exactly what my step-mom used to do. I told him he needed to stop before he gets hurt. He was so cute, like a kid he said, "I won't do it again. I promise I won't do it again, this is the last time". I hope that he means it. The nurse told him he couldn't do this any more because he could get hurt. I pray your doctor gives you the answers you need and all goes well. |
I don't think I slept a wink last night, worrying about what I'm going to hear at the doctor's today. I am so tired and hungry. I'm not usually hungry first think in the morning. I didn't want to eat before going to the doctor but I don't feel like I can wait til after my appointment. It's at 11:20. Maybe I'll eat a slice of cheese, and the fat will hold me over.

Hi friends: I am back from my trip. I fasted most of yesterday and ate before getting on the plane home, and a small snack on the plane an hour before we landed. I slept like a log when we got home, because I didn't sleep much on the plane. I am working to stay awake today to get back on local time.
I was planning to fast this morning, but felt spaced out and dizzy, so ate my steel cut oatmeal with peaches. Cooked the oats in milk for some protein. I will do low carb the rest of the day, but still feel a little wonky so won't push too hard. But I want to be active enough to enjoy a good sleep tonight. I am going to give this week a good try with the new sleep med and see if I can't work with it. If not I will go back to the other one and talk to the doctor about what i should do. I am hoping to do some fasting tomorrow, perhaps not eat after supper tonight until Wednesday evening. I am going to be checking my sugars during the fast and see how things are. Now that my travelling is done I want to really embrace the Fung plan for several weeks and get my weight down, and ask for a recheck on the fatty liver in the fall. Sticking to any plan is hard, but this was easier for me, and I don't want to mess around adding ideas from other plans. I want to just do this, with healthful eating when I do eat. I have been catching up with reading your posts , and hope things go well for everyone this week. Trish, I hope things get better for your Dad and the VA papers go through ok. Carol, the pain may come and go, some things will help or not, and its hard to have so much other stuff depend on it. I hope your doctor can get some answers for you on that. It must be nerve or muscular-skeletal in origin if the cortisone helped, so physio should be helpful. Pain meds are tricky when you are on blood thinners or have had a heart attack. Can you take ASA? It would be safe if not on blood thinners, I would think. Ask your doctor of course, to be safe. Well, time to attack the mountain of laundry now. Have a good day everyone. Henrys: have you been lurking for a while? Thanks for posting. |
Well, I got good news and bad news from the cardiologist. The bad news is, my valve does need to be replaced. The good news is it's not urgent as I am not symptomatic yet. He encouraged me not to wait until I have symptoms, but it's my choice because another cardiologist might say wait until you have symptoms. He said one man went 5 years with this before he got symptoms and had the valve replaced. I don't want to do that, because I'm 72 now, and 5 years from now my health might not be as good as it is now and the surgery will be more of a risk. So I'm thinking maybe in the fall. It will not be open heart surgery, as they can do it through a catheter. I go back to the cardiologist in August and will probably make the arrangements then.
One good thing, he is releasing me to exercise and told me to gradually increase the intensity, so apparently he doesn't expect the bad valve to be an issue. I am really afraid to up the intensity but I may feel more comfortable with it as time goes on. Mad, it sounds like you had a good trip and a good trip home. I'm glad to hear you are ready to just get right back on plan. I hope things go well for you. I am on an 81mg aspirin along with Brilinta, which is a platelet reducer for one year to keep the stent open. I am really not taking the pain meds right now, except for an occasional dose of Tylenol Arthritis. As long as I am able to be active without major pain, the heart issue is more important to me that the foot issue. Trish, DH has a friend, 50ish, who goes to the car cruise who has changed his WOE and got off all his blood pressure meds. I asked DH what he was doing but DH doesn't know. Only thing he knows is a lot of the guys go over to Subway and get a sandwich during the cruise and this guy got a veggie wrap. So he might be doing plant based. DH will ask him for me next time he sees him, but it might not be this weekend because it is supposed to rain. No car cruise in the rain. The wrap sounded so good to me that I got some low carb pita pockets today and a bag of spinach/kale mix and made a salad in a pita for my lunch, along with some sliced cucumbers. It was really good. I forgot about those pita pockets. I'm going to start buying them through the summer since there will be so many more veggies available. |
Carol Sue Glad you got the answers you needed. I agree that you should have the surgery while you are healthier. You might be healthier and not need it later if you stay on your woe, but time will tell. DH was told he needed to have a valve replacement years ago and when he went to see a cardiologist to get an okay to have the prostate surgery, it was perfectly fine and he has never had a problem with it ever again. Prayer, diet and vitamins took care of it. Wish I could remember the vitamin regiment we used. We got it from a cardiology surgeon's article his daughter found. We even went to that doctor since he was in So. FL. He told me I could put DH on that program but it wouldn't hep, but it wouldn't hurt. That was 15 yrs ago. I'm sorry I can't even remember his name.
fatmad You did great on your trip. I am finding that IF really fits so well no matter what I'm doing. Yesterday I ended up going 6 hrs between breakfast shake and dinner. I feel like I sometimes have a mini-fast when I do that as well as my 16 hr fast between dinner and breakfast the next day. I think you will find it easier to get back into a routine now that you are home. Glad you had such a great time on your trip. I talked to Daddy this morning and he had rolled himself around the facility and gone to the morning exercise class. They worked with his hands which he needs badly. He really sounded good this morning. DS and her hubby will go see him this afternoon when he gets off work. I did eat a low carbish breakfast using the Low Car b for Dummies book and will try to keep starchy carbs to less than 5 carbs which would be between 45 to 75 grams carbs daily along with fasting. I prefer to keep it at 45 grams most days. I plan to do more of a CAD plan with the 2 meals and possible snack when needed in order to make this happen. I also started my exercises back today too... aiming for 5 days a week and hoping for at least 3 days. Walking when I go to see Daddy 4 days a week will help some to reach that goal. I think we all finally have our individual plans so things seem more promising for us. Have a good day. |
