Its official, I'm overweight! yippee

I have crossed the line (going downward) from obesity and into being overweight.
I actually weigh a little less than my ticker says, but I may regain a pound or two. Really pleased with the loss, and its not coming from being sick but from eating to plan, and sometimes not eating. Really pleased about it.
And no constipation issues. I believe getting enough fat is part of that. Also, I am not completely low carb. The diabetes code had occasional oatmeal (twice a week) in it, and I am enjoying that. Went and got gluten free oatmeal. This means its made in a dedicated factory where they are not processing other grains that have gluten, like wheat. Apparently not gluten grains are a big deal for coeliacs and a frequent source if accidental gluten exposure. So are home exposures. DH was good yesterday when he cooked our eggs to use MY butter. (we now have two butter dishes, mine where you cannot butter bread or toast etc. )

Last night I even went out and had a crepe. The creperie where we go to sing and play music on Tuesday nights has buckwheat crepes that are gluten free. They even wiped down the kitchen first for me, to ensure no gluten. Its a specialty of the house. Mine was filled with brie cheese and fresh berries. I even ate the whipped cream with a little sugar in it. What a nice treat. And yet weight is still down!

Its raining, so I will plan my walk later today, as I think the weather will clear in a few hours.

have a lovely day friends and welcome to our newbie

Mad, congratulations on no longer being obese! I have to lose an additional 30 lbs to cross over, and an additional 50 to be at the highest weight for normal. I do not see either of those happening, but I will do as well as I can. I lost 24 lbs between 2008 and now, 10 years. I doubt if I will even live another 10 years.

Pipsicle Welcome. You are smart to get control of bs while prediatetic. Please come back and share your experience with us. We do learn from each other. Dr. Fung and fasting is a good way to eat. I usually do 8:16 ratio although I have found I do better with a 5:19 ratio which I plan to get back to with 2 Meals a day (2MAD) as I recover from recent illness.

fatmad Congratulations for getting down into the overweight stage. You have definitely found what works for you. It is really nice that the creperie made sure you got no gluten. I have to wonder how many places would do that.

Carol Sue Looks like you may have figured out a way to get DH on the band wagon to eat some veggies as well as getting your weight and bs going in the right direction. Very happy for you.

Girl you kept talking about the book and I had to order it last night. I will get mine Monday. I have heard so much about Phinney so I guess it is time for me to read his work. Besides, I'm trying to get my head wrapped around low carbing again. I'm not sure I want to go Atkins low, but maybe between 50 to 75 g or lower. I am going back to my 5 hr eating window and fasting 19 hrs. I could do 4:20, but my FBS has risen so high while taking all these meds and I know my bs is usually way lower if I go 5 hrs between meals instead of 4. Of course, not being able to exercise right now doesn't help either. My FBS is always lower when I can do at least 20 minutes a day on the recumbent bike. I have 3 more days of pills. DH wants to go to Sam's tomorrow so I hope I will be able to go and get some walking in which will help some. Walking doesn't help the FBS as much as the recumbent bike, but it will help.

My Daddy called me this morning before 10 am and said "I figured it was time for you to get up". He sounds great. DS says he looks great too. He was getting ready to, he calls it "ride", around the facility and go down to the office to talk to them about getting some therapy started again. DS went to Walmart yesterday and called me and said "Did you know that they bring the people from Ridgecrest to shop here on Tuesdays?" She said, "I'm seeing Ridgecrest out here". I heard a lot of them speaking to her. Daddy's room mate signed Daddy up to start going. DS and I told him we would see to it that he has money in his pocket to spend. I told him to go see the Activity Director and tell her what activities he is interested in being a part of. I think he is finally settling into his life there. That in itself makes me feel better.

I am feeling better except I'm so dry that I can't get enough water to drink. I am back OP. My carbs for today are less than 90 g which is good. I am so tired of salads and I have the tendency to want crackers with my salad so I might take it out and just have cooked veggies today so I can lower the carbs more. For brunch I cooked a 2 egg omelet with riced broccoli and cauliflower and pepper blend and cheese. No bread. Main meal will be Air fried chicken wings with okra and green peas and I will drink whole milk with this meal. I had a salad planned with it but not sure I will eat one or not. If I do, it will be half the size I usually have. I'm not doing CAD so I don't have to eat 2+ c of salad. Then I will fast until brunch tomorrow.

I have to do the best I can as these high fbs reading from the meds is going to ruin my A1c reading at the end of next month.

Y'all have a great day

Decided to tweak my food plan for today to get carbs under 75 g since I prefer MLC (Moderate Low Carb). I did keep the salad but at 1 c and kept crackers at 2. I have cut my calories back to 1094 carbs to 65 g. This includes the whole milk and a small serving of cantaloupe. So I am happy with the results of today's plan plus MFP is too since the calories are not under 1000. LOL

Wannabehealthy 06-20-2018 03:52 PM

Trish, I haven't logged on MFP for a while. I really should, because it shows my calories eaten on my Fitbit Dashboard, but I just haven't been into it. I have been concentrating more or what I'm eating rather than calories. I have had a little bit of hunger, but that's what I want. I want to eat because I'm hungry, not because it's mealtime or because someone else is eating. I want that to become a habit, because I still feel that I have these problems (overweight and diabetes) because of overeating. If I had only been eating when hungry I don't think I would have gained as much as I did.

FBG was 112. Before breakfast and after black coffee it was 146. My blood sugar continues to climb after I get up. After I ate my scrambled eggs I ate a small portion of bran cereal, and within an hour my BS was 209. So even though it has a lot of fiber, it still effects my blood sugar. I think I could probably continue to have it if I take my glimiperide, but I don't usually need it when I just have the eggs. I have 1/2 box of the cereal left so by the time it's gone I will decide if I'm going to continue buying it. The thing is, it contains sugar. It says so on the box, and I can taste it. Why can't they make it without sugar and let people add sugar if they want to. Whole grain is supposed to be healthy, and the sugar defeats the purpose. I don't know if you can buy a bran cereal that does not contain sugar. I will have to start Googling. Even Fiber One has sugar.

I'm glad you're still improving. I wouldn't worry about exercise until I was back to normal. And I'm glad your Dad is getting used to the facility. I hope he continues that way.

I hope you like the book. I have heard that Phinney does not believe in fasting. So far I didn't see that mentioned in the book but someone said he was disagreeing with Dr Fung on that note. Did you know that Phinny and Volek also wrote New Atkins for a New You? I had forgotten that.

I didn't make the cheese sauce because DH wanted this other dish he makes, with ground beef, potatoes and mushroom soup. As long as he's happy and less work for me. LOL

doing pretty well today, on plan. Have some neuropathy in my fingers. And left thumb a little sore. Other than that, I am pretty happy with things.
Got a new CPAP mask today. It has much less covering on my face and i could even wear glasses and read while wearing it. I am trying it for a couple of sleeps and then will get a permanent one if I like it after real life use.
Tomorrow I will start on the anti-depressant my doctor wants me to use. I go off call tomorrow night, so if there are any difficult to manage side effects I won't have to worry so much.
Pipsicle, I am excited for you to join us. Haven't heard from Momtopands for a while, but Trish and Carol are regulars.
Carol: I think the reason I am enjoying the fasting with Fung (what a fun phrase!) is that the weight loss is relatively quick, and you can follow almost any diet plan. While he advocates lower carb and lots of veggies, there are some carbs in the mix, so you don't have to go totally low carb. Lots of people on the facebook sites are doing Keto and Low carb/high fat, but its not obligatory. I haven't for instance. One of the reasons I haven't been successful is that I can't stick to such a restrictive diet. This allows me to use virtually any eating plan, and lose weight by reducing overall calories. The lower carb just kick starts things a bit. So I would still encourage IF at least, doing 18:6 intervals, and slightly longer fasts if you think you can from time to time.
I will see if I get to the point of truly extended fasts, but for now am sticking to shorter ones. I think I will do 36-42 hours once a week only, until I plateau. Thats my plan for the summer and see how it goes.

Trish, glad to hear your father is doing better.

Talk to y'all soon

The woman came today and bought my Pilates Chair! And she paid my asking price. I was prepared to dicker. She did not appear to be the type to do this exercise. I think she is buying it for someone else, or thinking she can sell it for more. Good luck with that. I advertised it for months before I got her call about it. I was explaining to her about the DVDs that go with it and she wasn't even paying attention. I am just so glad it finally sold. I have a couple other things I want to sell but they are low ticket items.
