Lunch was delicious. She seasons her cabbage with bacon grease and OMG, so good LOL. Southern cooking made me fat, but it's the best.

Carol Sue - I can't take melatonin either. It makes me feel so weird the next day and gives me a funky headache. Plus, it didn't help me sleep at all. I've given up trying to sleep. I took my BG the other night when I woke up and it was 100, which isn't too low or too high really. /shrugs Either the issue will correct itself or I just have to deal with it.

Good news on the house pattygirl. Hope it works out for you.

Boss decided to do an ice cream party up here today. My BFF bought me some carbsmart ice cream. Only 4g of carbs per serving. It's so nice she always tries to include me. :D

Fatmad I meant to tell you thanks for the article about breakfast. I had heard some of this before in IF. I think I will be able to stay OP through this most of the time. Traveling might be the trying time, but I always say that and it turns out fine. I am changing my attitude a lot about the way I eat. I do not always want breakfast and never eat it when I'm single. I now have a DH who doesn't have anything to do with whether I eat it or not so I've decided when I REALLY am hungry for it that I will eat it, but if I'm not I'm not going to eat. The only time I have to cook a full regular meal is lunch when we eat together.

As I've thought of all this after reading the article you shared, I suddenly wondered why am I still eating the way I ate when my 2nd husband was living IDK.:?: So I've decided that I'm going back to eating the way I did when I was younger and when single except now I will make healthier choices.

Carol Sue I forgot to take my glucose meter into my bedroom before I went to bed. I think I will start checking my FBS earlier like you do and see what my readings are then. Thanks for sharing your experience. That might tell me why my A1c is always less than what I think it will be, because I'm going by a later reading.

Ficklehearts Sounds like wonderful time with your Grandma. I understand about the southern cooking. When I married my 2nd Hubby, I had lost down to 150 lbs. We married and lived with his grandparents for a couple of months and I learned to cook the way she cooked because I wanted to please my new hubby. She had cooked for all of her brothers and sister and even cooked some for the church etc. Was nothing for her to cook for a slew of people to come home after church for dinner like they did in her day. Mistake #1, I went from eating 1 meal a day to 3 meals a day mostly of his grandmother's cooking. Wasn't long I was putting weight back on. And I wondered why I gained weight. LOL :dizzy: She would cut herself a little sliver of cake for dessert after eating her southern fried chicken dinner and I would eat all that with her. Guess that should have been a clue. Humph.

p.a. Great snack plan and accomplishment with time out with DGD.

Well, I guess my DH is a packrat. We have boxes in the garage we haven't ever opened from when we moved here 9 yrs ago. He informed me that everyone of them are moving with us. I certainly hope he doesn't become like my DBIL who my sister says has gone way before packrat. She says he is a hoarder. I on the other hand am going to clean out as much as I can. Goodwill and other places will get a lot of my stuff so maybe someone else can use it who needs it. DH #2 was the same way. You know they think they might need it tomorrow although they haven't needed it all these years.

Y'all have a nice day.

Wannabehealthy 03-17-2016 09:51 PM

I love eggs, so breakfast has always been important to me. When I worked, I always ate breakfast, but now that I am retired, I eat breakfast every day, but I eat it when I get hungry, which sometimes might be closer to lunch time . When I worked, it was important for me to eat it before I went to work or I might have become hungry before lunch, and hit up the snack machines. But I was that way when I was thin and when I was fat. It had no effect on my weight. Adding dinner to a diet that was usually just breakfast and lunch is what made me fat.

I also love cooked cabbage, and I don't think seasoning it with bacon fat is so bad. Now when you start eating the bacon plus seasoning everything with bacon fat, you might have a problem! LOL I never lived in the south, but I love to watch the southern cooking shows and read the southern recipes. I think if I had grown up in the south I would have been fat from the age of 5. Yummy!

pattygirl63 03-18-2016 10:35 AM

I just can't seem to stay away from this group. LOL So I'm still here.

Carol Sue Now that I'm used to or gotten in the habit of eating breakfast, I have to say that I love eggs and bacon. Some times I want breakfast and some time I don't. Like you, it might be later in the morning when I want it, however, there are days I don't want anything at all. There are times I want eggs and Canadian bacon, or sausage and that keeps things from becoming bored.

I think the thing I drew me to IE and Weigh Down was learning to eat when I'm hungry and not just because the clock says it is time to eat. I do have to kind of eat by the clock with our main meal because that is when DH wants to eat, but the rest of the day is left for me to eat only when I'm hungry.

I believe one of the problems I'm beginning to believe that I have is that I've been convinced by the diet gurus that I have to eat 3 meals and snacks. That has given me permission to eat when I am not hungry. The problem I always had in the past with WW and the problem I've had with MFP is that if you don't eat a set # of pts or calories everyday, they fuss telling you that you are not eating enough. Personally, I really believe as IE does that I've eaten enough when my body says it doesn't want or need any more food. The problem is that I've followed diet plans for so many years that I am not sure I know when that is any more.

Today I got up and wanted to eat low carb. Not Atkins low carb, but lower carb. So I am low carbing today. We will have hamburgers because DGS is here today (last day of Spring break for him) and it is easier to make burgers. I woke up wanting mine made as a hamburger salad. I won't have the fries or chips with it. As I said before, I'm not real hungry right now so taking this time to make new, better and healthier eating habits.

I had bowel issues, but I've decided it is the coconut oil. I baked our cod fish yesterday and then browned it just a tad of coconut oil. I haven't been using it in my coffee and haven't had any problems with the Metformin. So it has to be the CO. I had been trying to incorporate it back into my diet because it really did help bring my triglycerides down when I used it before, but I guess it is out. I hope by switching to low or more of a moderate low carb way of eating that the will come down any way.

Guess I better get busy around here. DH says I can't help him clean and get ready to pack the garage (thank God) so I need to start getting things done in the house. Just need to get organized and then get started.

Y'all have a fantastic Friday.

Wannabehealthy 03-18-2016 12:39 PM

Trish, I can't exactly pinpoint what causes my bowel issues. I think bacon played a part and I have quit buying it. DH usually cooks our breakfast and he cannot learn to cook a small amount of bacon. He cooks 1/4 of the package each time and that's a lot for the 2 of us. He only eats a little bit but I end up eating what's there so it won't go to waste, even thought I would be happy with 1 strip as an accompaniment to my eggs. That's too much fat for my system, and the eggs contain fat, too. So no more bacon for us.

LOL, you don't have to listen when MFP or WW tells you are not eating enough. Tell them to shut up and mind their own business! LOL You are the boss of you. They are just there to be a guide, not the boss. It does not make any sense to eat when you are not hungry, unless the lack of hunger is due to some illness. It is my opinion that you are hungry when you feel the grumblings in your stomach. You know the difference between when you feel the grumblings, and when your mouth is watering because you are looking at something that you think will taste good. Remember, it never tastes as good as your think it will. That's just appetite/cravings talking. I do that all the time with candy bars in the check out line. LOL They are placed there to tempt you while you're standing there. Occasionally I succomb, but most times I am able to talk myself out of it. I just remind myself what it will do to my blood sugar and I pass it by.

Why does 3FC not have spell check? I am using words I don't know how to spell. LOL

I agree. I also agree that there are times I give in and eat something and realize that it didn't taste as good as I thought it would and wish I had not even wasted my time. Wish I could remember that and hopefully in time I will.

Doing ok still. Pain is pretty minimal, only getting sore late in the day, have only taken pain pills once since Tuesday. Have gotten out and walked twice since then too.
Lost another pound, but LOL, went out for chinese food last night. I was really please, I hate half my dish and took the rest home. But the salt and stuff in it, I was up 2 pounds. I'm not worried, I know its water retention, but wow, thats amazing.
Have been getting out and being social a bit.

Enjoying reading everyone, have a great weekend.

pattygirl63 03-19-2016 12:58 PM

Fatmad Glad your pain is getting better and do hope it will be gone completely soon. Congratulations on the 1lb loss. I love Chinese food, but I hate how it always adds a temporary 2 lb gain. DH and I always half the meat portion and we never eat more than 1/4 of half of the rice and I still get the 2 lb gain from the salt.

New research shows the cause of diabetic Type 2 IR which may lead to new treatment in the future.

Morning everyone
It's been a busy week here,,,it's spring break so lots of activities for kids to do. My granddaughter is 3 and we went to see Dora Sing a long..
Trish I have a jar of organic coconut oil I think I should be using it more then I do.
Mad I'm glad the pain is getting better
Carol I don't pay attention when MFP tells me I'm not eating enough either....it gives me a warning but I ignore it. But I try not to go under 1000 calories though.
Ficklehearts I've never heard of carbs art ice cream,,,I guess we don't get it here. That could be a good thing lol

Ok off to decorate eggs this morning

Happy Spring everyone!!!!

pattygirl63 03-20-2016 01:43 PM

p.a. Thanks for sharing about how you handle MFP warning. I don't eat less than 1000 calories either, but there are times I don't eat 1200. I do like seeing what my exercise does for me although I never use those calories earned.

I've learned to ignore the sodium warnings on MFP because I have learned that leg cramps can be from not eating enough. I don't work at eating more, but I don't worry about it when I go over either.

I haven't got much done toward packing yet. I've decided to take care of some other things first. I've been promising to go out with a good friend here in town so we are going out for Mexican food tomorrow. I love Mexican food but DH does not so I rarely go out for it. She likes it too so we are going tomorrow then I will be free to get busy.

I told DH that we get notice ever now and from a Vet organization that leaves a bag to fill up and you can add things to it in other bags. I will start cleaning things out that they can use and bag them so I can set them out for them next time they come around. I am starting to look forward to the move and being with my family.

In between time, I realize that I still have things I believe the Good Lord wants me to fulfill before we move. One is to help this DGS graduate. I've been staying up late with DH and get up later, but this boy just can't wake up on his own. We've come too far with him to let him lose at this point. I've made a deal that I will help him by getting up early and wake him up to get him to school on time. He can do the work; he just needs to get there. It will help me to get up at a decent time as well. I just have to help him get there M - Th. Friday is a late day for him and I like to sleep in on Fridays. So this will help me as well. Also the lady who taught a Thursday morning class at church last year is starting another one Thursday and this will help me get up to get there.

I'm going to shoot for eating within a 5 to 8 hr window again most days. I want to get this eating under control before I move back home. I won't lose a lot of weight before then, but I need to have good eating habits before I get there.

Here's to us all have a great week.

pattygirl63 03-20-2016 01:52 PM

When I posted the previous I noticed my signature wit the "Will Power Dust" which caused me to remember a word of information our pastor shared in his sermon today. I thought I would share it.

He said that we can not successfully do anything with will power only. They say that "Will Power" will help us for about 90 days. They say people make New Year's Resolutions and may stay with it for 90 days and by March or the end of March that their will power runs out and they go back to their old ways. Of course, he went on to say that we need more than will power as we need God's help along with it to succeed.

While I agree with him, I also found it interesting that lately I felt that I really need make New eating Habits rather than depend on will power along.

Just thought I would throw that out there for whatever it is worth.

Wannabehealthy 03-20-2016 02:31 PM

Trish, I think it will do you so much good to be closer to your sister. You two will be able to give each other support, and it is commendable that you are going to work toward getting your dgs graduated. I hope he appreciates it in the end.

I think you already have a good start on new eating habits compared to what you were doing in the past. I know I have improved my eating a lot, even though I'm not dropping pounds. I have read so much about nutrition that while I'm eating, I'm thinking about what nutrients are in the particular foods I'm eating, and when I see DH eating his unhealthy snacks I just see empty calories. I have Dr Joel Fuhrman to thank for that when I read The End of Diabetes. He described the nutrients in each food and what they do for the body in a way that made me appreciate them more.

It's rediculous how much "stuff" we accumulate over the years! LOL

pattygirl63 03-20-2016 03:14 PM

Carol Sue I know. As much as I love fruit, I guess they are off limits for now anyway. DH was looking in the kitchen cabinet last week and found my little gadget to make zucchini/yellow squash noodles. I had forgotten about it. The next time I went to the store, I got zucchini and yellow squash. I made zucchini noodles the other day and added Ragu Alfredo sauce and veggies to it. DH doesn't eat a lot of veggies and I've been making just what he will eat and sharing. I've got to get back to eating my veggies again. I had forgotten how good they taste and I realize that I really have missed them.

I'm not giving up all carbs, however, I will eat a lot more veggies.:)

Wannabehealthy 03-20-2016 08:09 PM

I am the same as you Trish, I will never give up my veggies. I never saw anyone who got fat from eating too much broccoli. LOL I haven't used my zoodler for a long time as DH won't eat it. I do not like it with a red sauce but I would like it with Alfredo and I even like it with butter or olive oil and parmesan cheese. I will probably get back to that when the zucchinis come back in season in the summer. Did you ever try Walmart's brand Alfredo Sauce, Great Value? I use that all the time. It's so delicious and a little cheaper than Ragu.

I think you can do fruit if you do it in very small portions. I have never had much of an interest in fruit, but DH started eating an orange every day and gives me a few sections. That small amount never raises my blood sugar and I'm getting my Vit C. Berries won't either. I know you like berries. You can buy frozen berries and just eat a few each day and they will last longer in the freezer. I do that with blueberries, but lately I have been forgetting that they are in the freezer. You could probably buy them fresh when you see them on sale and freeze them in a freezer bag.
