Having potty issues with Metformin again. Tempted to stop it, but I'm dropping weight. I am down to 219 this morning, but I am so weak. FBS was 143 this morning. A real dilemma. Just not sure what to do. May try to change when I take it. May have to try taking it later in day when I know I'm not going any where after. Thankful for the weight loss though.

Hey Trish,
The potty issues last about 3-4 months, then go away. Hang in there. If you feel weak, it may be dehydration. Extra water, maybe something salty to eat. Loving that weight loss! |
Trish call your dr and get checked,,,maybe something else is going on.
Hit a new low this morning , lower then my ticker now. Been a long time coming. |
Good for you p.a. and Trish on the new lows!!
Last night I was hungry for broccoli. Who says no one craves broccoli? I do! I cooked some baby carrots and frozen broccoli. This morning my blood sugar was 134, lower that it's been for a while, even with the carrots, which are supposed to be bad for blood sugar. Dr Joel Fuhrman says that the bit of carbs in them is way offset by the fiber and nutrients, and I love them. Only like them cooked, however. And the fiber helped this morning! Two benefits for the price of one! LOL |
Feeling much better today. Have to get out later to go pickup prescriptions and get groceries since I was too sick to get out to go shopping Saturday. Weight stayed the same but I won't change the ticker yet.
Watercolor I know I was dehydrated during my sickness because I wasn't drinking enough water. Also I haven't been eating much salt since I've been sick either because nothing tastes good. I start back to eating low carb this morning so I can keep the weight coming off. I usually retain a lot of fluid, but I am not retaining any since I've been sick. I usually take a mild fluid pill once a day, but I probably should stop taking it. The doctor only gave it to me because I asked for it so it isn't something I have to take. I probably shouldn't have been taking it while sick and may be what has caused the dizziness. One of the things I've always liked about low carbing is that I don't retain fluid when eating that way. So I decided that coming off this sickness and the lower weight that his would be a good time to go back to eating low carb. Have a great day. |
Trish, I'm glad you're feeling better. I hope you keep the weight off and it keeps coming off. Your stomach has probably shrunk a bit and if you keep your calories on the low side it will stay that way.
This morning I am down a lb, my BP and BG are both good. I contribute that to all the vegetables I've been eating the past couple days. I am going to keep that up today and try to avoid all starchy carbs. I want to get some blood work done tomorrow and don't want my glucose to be high. DH brought Sausage & Egg Biscuits from McDonald's and I would really like to eat one of those biscuits, but I will get them out in the yard for the birds before I cave in and eat them. LOL I am just eating the sausage and egg with a couple slices of tomato. Hope everyone has a good day! We are finally getting some sunshine! |
Feeling good /human again. No dizziness this morning.
I am back on Carbohydrate Addict's Diet as of yesterday. I joined their Facebook support group yesterday. Will be eating two low carb meals, one low carb snack and one meal a Reward Meal when I can have starchy carbs. This will be where I will put my fruit for the day most days instead of starchy carbs. I actually started yesterday because we decided to eat at HWY 55 and I am amazed that I am down .6 lbs today down to 218.6. My RM was a fried shrimp burger and half order of onion rings. I always have lemon water when I eat out. My FBS was 148 for 2 days. Not where I want it but much better than it has been. I've been reading what some of the people on general low carb on another cite eats and got some great ideas for eating low carb meals. I bought some polish kelbasah and took a normal serving of 2 oz with onions and cabbage made into a stir-fry. It was really good. I didn't take the Metformin with RM like I would have if I had been at home. I took it with the stir-fry and so far no problem. (I never stopped the Metformin because I remembered that I had actually taken a magnesium pill a few days and I remember a nurse friend had told DH that magnesium will also cause diarrhea if you get too much. I obviously don't need it.) I lost over 65 lbs doing CAD years ago and can't understand why I ever stopped it. Carol Sue I don't get tempted with biscuits any more. When we get KFC, I always tell them no biscuits but they put it in there any way. I'm blessed that DH doesn't care that much for bread. When we go to Cracker Barrel he always tell the waitress not to bring any bread. The only time I really want bread is when we eat at a steakhouse or Olive Garden. Having a RM once a day will take care of that. I'm glad your FBS and bp is good. Good luck on your blood work. I too will be putting more veggies into my way of eating. For one thing it is a biggy on plan. In fact, I read that even on low carb meals/snacks that veggies are supposed to be half the meal. Someone also wrote that they don't like salad at the RM and she was told that she didn't have to eat the 2 c salad if she at more veggies in place of it. So I'm beginning to think that veggies plays a big part of weight loss and health. Thus the new WW plan of making most veggies 0 pts. Y'all have a great day. |
One thing about McDonald's biscuits, if you don't eat them right away they turn hard as rocks. No problem throwing them away. LOL I didn't do well avoiding starchy carbs yesterday. DH wanted a rice side dish at dinner last night so I had some too. I knew I shouldn't have, and my fasting blood sugar was 167. My blood sugar was in a very good range all day yesterday without the carbs.
Trish, I don't usually eat a salad before my meal unless I'm eating out. Since I am the one cooking dinner, I don't have time to make or eat a salad before our meal is ready. I do eat as many vegetables as I can at meals, and lunch is usually all vegetables. I didn't know you were taking magnesium. Many people on VLC plans take that to avoid constipation. I sure don't need it. LOL Glad to hear you're feeling better and still losing. Keep it up! You don't have far to go for Onederland! |
I measured this morning and I am down 2.25 inches since March and I was down another .2 lb. So CAD is working for me. I didn't take the Metformin yesterday because I was still having problems. FBS was up to 170 this morning but that isn't unusual since I'm taking a decongestant and doctor doesn't like me taking it because it raises bs. However, sometimes I just have to take it. One thing I like about CAD is that it seems to be low carb enough that I am not retaining fluid. I believe I have found my way that I can live with.
Carol SueI had only just started taking the magnesium again. I just think I need to let my system relax and get over all it has been through the past few weeks and then I will probably try the Metformin again. Having experienced this with the magnesium makes me think that maybe the nuts I ate (which isn't allowed on CAD except at RM) may have been causing the problems I was having with the Metformin. I will experiment and see. Of course, I haven't been able to exercise while sick and that doesn't help either. Web MD says we need to exercise 30 min a day. Tony and I watch the doctors show on Fox news and last night DH started back to exercising. He said he remembered they said it takes diet and exercise to lower bs. So I plan to get back to that today. I still don't know why my doctor will not give me something to help lower the bs. There is a lady on FB CAD support group who is on Metformin and glyberide and her bloodwork yesterday showed her A2c was 2.5. She takes 1000 mg Metformin and said sometimes she only has to take 5 mg of the glyberide. I'm going to talk to him about it at my next visit. He is happy when it is 7 and I'm not. If I can get it into a lower reading with the medicine then I want to do it. Otherwise, I will have to do diet, exercise and do the best I can praying the Metformin problems will stop or that I can do this with diet and exercise. I've been having these problems for at least 6 mos or more. If I he won't help me with something to take with it, I'll just have to hope that I can get a doctor in TX that will. Have a good day. |
Trish, I don't want to say that woman is wrong, but I never heard of an A1c below 4. And that is usually only found in non-diabetics. If you look at this A1c calculator, http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/A1Ccalc.php, if you put in 2.5 as the A1c it will tell you that the average blood sugar reading was 25. I don't think that's possible. I don't know what your doctor is thinking, but he must have his reasons. I wish I could send you my Glimiperide, because I would rather not be taking it. LOL What are your readings throughout the day, other than fasting? You can't always go by fasting. I hope you get this worked out.

Carol Sue My bs just before lunch was 119. Maybe she got it wrong. Maybe she meant 5.2 and wrote it wrong because her doctor told her to keep doing what she is doing.
I did 30 minutes on the recumbent bike. I remember when I got my bs down years ago, I was doing 45 minutes of exercise. So I plan to do another 15 minutes later today and work at doing 45 minutes 6 days a week and take Sundays off. If I can learn to do this without the medicine, that would be better anyway. |
Afternoon ladies...
I had my 3 month check up today and after being off glyclazeride for 3 months my A1C was 6.2! On it , it was 5.9 so not much of a difference . My dr will be thrilled. Course I did go even lower carb to keep it down but it's working. I'm still in pre-diabetic range :). A year ago it was 12,,,,, I was down 2 pounds this week overall. A good week. I'm not sure about an A1C being 2.5 but last Xmas my blood sugar went down that low,,,it was scary. I felt awful.....that's why dr took me off that med. That's hypoglycemic??? I think. Trish keep up the exercise,,it's good for us every day..lowers bg. Carol I have to ask for no bun / bread right away,,,I know if my food came with it I would be very tempted. |
p.a. Congratulations on the 6.2 A1c. I think that is good without taking the medicine. I'm still eating a few carbs during my CAD Reward Meal and I think that will help me too.
I did 45 minutes of the recumbent bike today. I did 30 minutes a couple of hours after breakfast and 15 more minutes after evening snack. I'm hoping the exercise along with my diet will bring my A1c back down in the low 6s. My doctor and I would be very happy with that. And it sure made me feel a lot better. I could actually feel a energy hit me. |
p.a. congratulations on the good A1c! I checked the blood sugar converter and your bs of 2.5 would be equivalent to when I had that low of 44. It was a terrible feeling and very dangerous. I wish I knew what my A1c was when I was diagnosed but I was in the hospital and they didn't tell me. They just started me on insulin right away. By the time I was ready to come home it was down enough that I just needed meds. Thank Goodness!
It seems that when I eat out, it's much easier for me to pass on the starches than when I eat at home. I'm backwards from what other say, but it's because I cook the starches for my DH. If we eat out, we can each order a different meal. He gets his starches and I can skip them. Trish, I think maybe she did mean 5.2 and typed it wrong. The best A1c I ever had was in 2011 when I had a 5.7. That was when I was exercising 45-60 min a day 5 days a week. Then I had that bowel surgery and never got back to the regular exercise again after I stopped. And my A1c was never that good again. I do believe that you are much better off controlling it with exercise instead of more meds. The first bad thing about the Glimiperide is that it causes weight gain, or in my case, prevents weight loss, and it also forces your pancreas to push out more insulin, and eventually your beta cells burn out and produce no more insulin. If that happens, you have to go on insulin shots. That is one thing I don't ever want to do, and that's why I am trying to get off it. I try taking just 1/2 MG when I do need it, and if I stay away from the starchy carbs that's all I need. If I can get my sorry butt back to exercising that would eliminate the need for it altogether, I'm sure. I was doing my exercise in the afternoon, and if I had carbs at dinner, I would walk on my treadmill for 15 min after dinner. It wasn't until I stopped that that I had to add the Glimiperide. I know you can do this, Trish! We both can! |
A quick flyby. On the way out the door. I will be doing the 45 minutes of exercise 5 - 6 days a week. My FBS was 133 this morning without the Metformin. If this keeps up, I will just do this with diet and exercises.
